Always so well received by the bartenders, had a gorgeous Mencia and ordered the incontournable Pan con Tomate (can't ever go wrong with this simple yet so perfectly made classic). Also couldn't help noticed the few new items on the menu such as their Rib eye tartare which was amazing, so flavorful and not afraid to say probably the best tartare I've ever had. Concept is great! Execution is lacking. They have created a legit European feel, standing/high table ordering of food/wine in a somewhat chaotic environment. Awesome. Problem is, they're one to two staff short. See this too often, owners who are so focused on the spreadsheet that they don't understand the benefit of paying one additional person. It was so slow because they haven't hired enough people that we almost left, and we saw another table finally get up and leave. Staff forgot to bring my wine. Check took forever. Awesome wine bar in the flatiron area. Would recommend going as no more than a group of 4 as the tables are all bench style, first come first serve. Good selection of wines and they also have good food. All the wines are awesome, food-wise I recommend the pan con tomate and the various cheeses. This is a very cute and cozy (small) wine bar with high quality tapas tucked away just off Irving Place. They keep it simple here with a short, straightforward menu and the wine selection is great. I will say, the space is very small inside and echoed quite a lot. My friend and I ended up moving outside because it was extremely loud (despite there only being a couple other groups seated at the time). The service wasn't necessarily bad, but our waiter was not really knowledgeable about the menu items or wine selection which seemed strange to me. The menu is written out on a board at the front of the bar--not only is it hard to distinguish between each item, but also there is no description so questions were warranted. We did feel a little rushed as they piled everything on our table at once to the point where it was difficult to set down my drink. And, my waiter tried taking my expensive glass of wine that I was nowhere near done with away without me noticing... Honestly don't think this would be a good first date spot as things didn't exactly go smoothly. Despite the minor service flaws, everything we ordered was delicious, except for the arugula and shaved fennel salad that seemed to have just been extremely over salted by accident. If you have a very intense appetite, this may not be the place for you in terms of food. However, if you have an intense appetite for wine, then Bar Jamón is perfect. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the various wines and made great recommendations. As a warning, this place is very small, and it may be best to visit with a party less than four folks during prime dinner hours. They need to work on the acoustics here. It's a tiny place. And somehow was super packed throughout the night. Could barely hear my dining companion. Tables are long and shared so you sit across from your person and are elbow to elbow with the people sitting next to you. Food was good. I lied our waiter well enough, he was a young guy. Though he was busy so while he passed us a bunch, it was tough to flag him down at times to order more stuff. Then there was an older gentleman who hovered. But in a really unpleasant way. I can't describe but it was his aura all together. It's like he didn't like it when we didn't know our order a minute after I sat down, he really wanted to make sure we kept ordering drinks. We attended a Spanish wine tasting dinner at Bar Jamon and were extremely impressed with the food and the service. The quality of the tapas was as good as anything we have eaten in Spain. Any halfway decent tapas bar can serve up good jamon or decent patatas bravas, but Bar Jamon goes well beyond that. The Confit Goat with Avocado Queso, Scallion Ash, and Pistachios is one of the very best meat dishes I have had in a long time. As the New York Times has said about their food, "hard to . . . find a New York restaurant where [the dishes] are satisfying one after another." Small place, tucked down a side street: Dark and intimate inside, with a couple of big shared tables. The food menu is written up on a big blackboard behind the bar: I guess the menu is fairly standard, doesn't change but they have occasional specials. Main food / tapas are meats/ cheeses and similar small plates which can be easily prepared without "cooking". We also had the Spanish omelette which was tasty, plus jamon Serrano and manchego cheese. We had glasses of red wine, they come with a glass and a mini flask refill so it's like a glass and a half (reflected in the price). Spanish tapas bar! Tip: No reservations accepted and this place gets jam packed so try to get here earlier or very late for a better dining experience. When I get there on a Saturday at 8pm, it was packed. There were no free spots to sit and there were lots of people standing around everywhere, drinking. When some seating was finally was available, I had to uncomfortably brush pass people and step over a bag to get to my seat. Then later, uncomfortably brush pass even more people to get to the bathroom. This is a tiny tight space. All the tables are high top bar stool, communal tables, so there is very little privacy if that is what you are looking for. Also it gets very noisy. At times its hard to have a conversation. Though once seated, it is a nice and cozy place, with a nice warm wood interior. Dimly lit with candles abound. Kinda romantic, if you're okay with sitting right next to strangers. The menu is written on a blackboard behind the bar. All the tapas (small plates) were excellent. It's good to go with friends, then you get to try more dishes. 4.5 stars. Bar Jamon is a great choice in flatiron. It gets packed on weekends so be aware of lines. Big fan of the decor - it's long shared tables where you can stand/sit, dim lighting, and it can get loud. Bar Jamon delivers on quality wine and yes, jamon. Always opt for jamon iberico, delicious and melts in your mouth. The servers are always helpful in pairing wine with the food you order. It's a great place for a small dinner or a date. My team held its work holiday dinner at Bar Jamón, which I was thrilled about since it gave me the chance to check out a place that I had been wanting to visit.  The space accommodated about 25 people, so we rented the entire room, with its high-top tables.  The restaurant was mainly a wine and tapas bar, so our beverage offerings were limited to water and house white, red, and sparkling wines.  I selected the Casa Mono Brut Cava, which included Macabeo, Parellada, Chardonnay, and Xarel-lo grapes, and carried the name of their parent restaurant nextdoor, Casa Mono.  Though it was referred to as a "brut", it was actually rather fruity and bright.  The staff was really on top of their game, consistently refilling our glasses before we could even finish the contents in front of us, which led to a bit of a messy evening... Thankfully, we were able to enjoy a vast selection of tapas, in addition to all of the booze.  The Tortilla Clásica was a typical, Spanish egg and potato casserole that was topped with a garlic aioli and paprika.  Despite my usual dislike of mayo-based condiments, I rather enjoyed this light and zesty topping on the delicate quiche, which included a flaky crust and fluffy interior.    There was also a plate of creamy Burrata that was balanced by acidity from balsamic vinegar and macerated tomatoes.  An earthy, Dry-Aged Beef Tartaré had been tossed with a porcini cream and topped with scallions.  Fluke and sweet potatoes were cubed and turned into a ceviche, served in tiger milk.  Their House Salad included sprigs of some sort of lettuce or chicory, tossed with pickled raisins for sweetness.   I peeled slices of Lardo Ibérico off of a pickled ratatouille, focusing on the stewed tomatoes and eggplant.  I simply loved the Golden Beets, which were served over soft Valdeón blue cheese and blueberries.  There was also sliced, Spicy Chorizo with Pickled Peppers and Scallions that I heard was fabulous, but did not try.  The meal culminated with a plate of crispy, cinnamon-covered Churros with a warm Chocolate dipping sauce, which received mixed reviews.   Overall, our Bar Jamón feast was excellent.  From the service to the creative and flavor-packed dishes to the wine selection, we simply had a blast! read more

I have been here countless times, but never got a chance to write a review. This place never disappoints. It can be tough to get a spot (not reservations, few tables), even on weekdays. The place is sister restaurant of Michelin star Casa Mono next door. They even serve the same pan con tomate and if you ordered a bottle of wine here while waiting for your table at Casa Mono they can transfer it for you. Super smooth transition. The place is good for dates, small gathering of friends, or if you are just visiting the city by yourself, I would recommend it too given the communal high tables. Food is out of this world and wine selection also very good. Plates are medium sized, tapas style, meant to share. Last time we shared (2 people): - Pan con tomate ($6): so simple and so good we got two of this. Toasted bread with diced tomatoes and the best olive oil you will ever try. - Smoked Trout with Charred Parsley and Capers ($12): both me and my bf loved this one. Our favorite behind pan con tomate. - Calamares with Olive Tapenade and Radicchio ($9): delish. You need to get this. - Fluke Ceviche with Tony el Tigre and Camote ($13): ok, but nothing extraordinary. In the past we had jamones and they were all great. A must if you come here. This place brings back memories of Malaga for me. Especially when the unibrow waiter came by. I have no idea how I am attracted to that, but I am. My circuits are wired weird. We started off with some "cuarto de vino," which is a bit more than a glass of wine. I, of course, am hooked on Tempranillo for the moment and like dry and light bodied reds, so this worked for me. We had a few tapas which were excellent. The duck liver foie gras was out of this world with the apricot jam. A taste burst, orgasmic feeling immediately registered in my head. We also had the camarones with capers. Fresh and succulent. The bocarones were delicious and just like the ones I had in Espana. We also had the piquillo, stuffed red peppers. Que bueno! They also had bocadillos on the menu and also churros, which I will try next time around. Seating is limited and first-come first serve. A nice couple left right when we arrived, so no waiting. Good size portions with my following favorites: Quail En Ecabeche (served cold with figs), Trout with Avruga Caviar, and Jamon Serrano Fermin. SUPER small... We showed up late (around 11:30 pm) on a Friday night and there were no spots available, and not really anywhere to wait for a spot inside. We were awkwardly standing by the door to the kitchen and having to move every time someone came in or out of it. This might not be a problem when the weather is nice and you can wait outside, but it was about 2 degrees and that was not an option. Luckily, we only had to wait about 15 minutes. The tables are all communal. There's only 3 long high-top tables in total in the whole place. The menu is on the blackboard and there is an extensive printed wine list (with some very pricey bottles). The octopus was great but the jamon I found to be just okay (funny given the name). We ordered one of the "cheap" ($80) bottles and it was also just okay. I'd come here if I lived in the area and was meeting a friend for a glass of wine, but wouldn't go out of my way for it nor would I come here for a full meal. read more

A cute, tiny tapas bar that gets super crowded. Get there early and try to snag the seats at the window, the best place to sit, in my opinion. The head waiter was very nice and helpful. The other waiters were more rushed and cared more about bussing than allowing you to enjoy your food. They came by several times to try to take our plates before we were done. We spent about $60 per person for two women, and we shared a bottle of wine. I was happily full! The Spanish omelet is very good. Normally, I don't like this dish, but theirs was simple and delish. We didnt go full-on splurge mode and went for the Jamon Serrano instead of the iberico. We were happy with the choice. Although, I would recommend getting both if you're up for a lot of Jamon! I've been to Casa Mono before but this was my first time at Bar Jamon. My friend and I came on the early side of the evening so it was easy to get a spot within the small taperia. Immediately I knew I would like the place as the atmosphere and setting does make it feel like an authentic taperia. It can easily fit in among the more contemporary and fashionable tapas spots of Barcelona or Madrid. And the wine list, while not particularly extensive, was quite good. The food was also very good. We ordered olives, jamon serrano, 2 kinds of cheese, and an indulgent crostini with foie gras. It was a simple yet fantastic spread and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It's absolutely tiny, with a couple communal high tables, and maximum capacity I believe of 35 people. I came on Sunday night with a friend at 630pm, and there was no wait thankfully. I've also come late on a Sunday night ~9pm and there was only a minimal wait. It's dimly lit and quite chattery / loud, and overall has great ambience. Wine and food are both amazing, but what I love the most here is the service... the servers are all extremely tentative and friendly. Not overbearing at all, and checking in on us at all the right times. The wine list was extensive, and the food written on a chalkboard above the bar. It's separated into Vegetables, Cheese, Meats, and Fish, and they're all charcuterie or tapa style. We had the Beets with valdeon and Blueberries, Fluke Ceviche, Manchego and a goat cheese that wasn't on the menu, Jamon Iberico. The manchego, goat cheese, and jamon iberico came out first with a generous helping of crunchy-crusted bread, all of which was delicious. Then the fluke ceviche and beets, both of which were amazing. I loved the sweetness of the blueberries with the beets in particular. We also splurged and got the churros + chocolate for dessert. They actually take ~15 minutes to prepare, so maybe order before you're finished with your food if you're in a rush. They were worth the wait though! Another trip to NYC and we had to come here again. Great light food with a Great variety BERY well executed. The manchego cheese came with 3 different ages. Grilled octopus was great. The serrano ham is always spectacular. And an amazing selection of Spanish (and occasional basque) wines by the bottle or quarto.
