We picked Sevilla for lunch because they advertise as the oldest Spanish restaurant. I had the garlic soup and the rest of my party had the black bean soup . Both were very good especially since it was very cold that day. I ordered mussels. The amount of mussels was very generous and they were tasty. Three of us ordered appetizers as our main meal and one of us ordered an entree.... Unfortunately they did not bring all of us what we ordered at the same time and when we asked why not we were told that the entree would come after the appetizers... we told them to bring the entree toot sweet. I don't buy the excuse so if you're here and have a similar situation make it real clear you want all the food together or you will end up watching someone eat alone.... I'd definitely come back to try the paella. read more

My favorite Spanish restaurants are long since gone so we returned to Sevilla, which love it or not, is a NY institution. Without having read my former review, my assessment is pretty much the same. The restaurant is packed, even arriving at 5:30. But no matter, there's a lot of turnover and we were seated immediately in a cramped booth in the back. (They don't care about reservations.) Chicken Villaroy (fried with béchamel sauce) was dry. My husband's chicken with sausage photographs better than he said it tasted. Even the sauce was weak. Sangria -- honoring my request for little ice -- was a-okay. And the signature iceberg salad with red Spanish dressing -- good! (It's the same salad served at all my former favorite restaurants.) Service is polite, quick and efficient. Food comes out fast , and despite the crowds you're never rushed. Did I love my meal? No. Will I come back? Of course! read more

So my beloved, Lora Papetsas, who is a Michelin Star trained chef who has mentored with Michel Guerard, Alain Senderens, Pierre Troisgros, Roger Verge, Anne Willan and Barbara Tropp. I mention this not to impress anybody, but rather to impress upon you as my father would say, "that one can tell how good the cook is by the food they make." With that in mind, my in-laws wanted to go to their favorite restaurant to be going for decades. This place is truly amazing and impeccable not only for its atmosphere and everything with it. So if one wants to be transported to a true experience back in Spain and have the best paella - best seafood then this is the place, that one would go without leaving New York City. Sevilla has often been one of my favorite places. You cant beat the old school Spaniard feel in the restaurant from the decor down to the servers. I've been a few times and I've often loved it. This time, I popped in and sat the bar. The bartender is the same one that I've seen over the years. I ordered a glass of sangria which in hindsight I should have ordered a half of a pitcher due to the price. The sangria was good as always. It is a typical classic sangria. I also ordered the chicken in garlic sauce which is my go to meal here. Their chicken in garlic sauce is typically amazing. This time, while the flavors were good, I found several pieces of chicken severely undercooked. The staff was apologetic but I was turned off. They took the meal off of my bill. Historically this place is rock solid but now the prices have gone up and the quality down. read more

Wow how the mighty have fallen. I used to love this place with delicious paella filled with plentiful fresh seafood. It's now become the biggest joke for a fifty dollar entree. It's filled with rive with a few teeny tiny clams, half a one pound maybe fishy boiled lobster and a couple teeny mussels. Have been here several times and this is one of those places that's super consistent. Old school Spanish restaurant, with lots of patrons. The restaurant isn't a large space and there is a bar where you can get drinks while waiting for a table. They are consistently busy but pretty quick with bringing you bread to start. We always typically get the paella but this time we opted for the muscles which I highly recommend in a garlic spicy sauce, their home made potato chips are so yummy here I could eat a million of them. The sangria is great! The fried calamari is super yummy. Always a classic spot where you know everything will be great! The only down side done the seats are older, they are kind of smaller. So not the most comfortable but at least it's padded. read more

It wouldn't be hyperbole to say that I had one of the best meals in my life on a chilly night in January. The vibe was cozy - in part due to the cramped space of the restaurant - but once we were seated, the experience began. That it was a family reunion of sorts made it a special occasion. Sevilla has been a mainstay over many years in NYC, having been here so many times and overdue for a review. Sevilla is old school goodness. It's been around for decades and for good reasons. It's a nice West Village corner location with plenty of outdoor seating to boot. You walk in and are immediately greeted by this warm and old school decor. I have always been immediately seated, unless it's packed out. Waitstaff are not overly friendly, but they are always respectful and professional. Consistent is how best to describe your experience here. Their paella is always great and I have had most of their seafood and seafood mixed varieties. Always a hit and paella is their strong suit, but this time I tried something different: their veal in white wine sauce and mushrooms. The bread arrives and the half pitcher of red sangria. The bread is good, but they serve the butter in those foil capped plastic packets that are nothing special, but not bad. The sangria was a tad off their usual excellence, but still better than most. They make the sangria to order and usually have lots of fruit in it. I order it every time. The house salad comes with their French dressing and iceberg lettuce with a few slices of tomato. Fresh , but this is not where Sevilla shines. The veal was very good and tender. Two thin slices of veal were a little underwhelming compared to the always generous servings of paella to which I have become accustomed at Sevilla. At $36 or $37 the veal should be more generously portioned, but that white wine sauce is delicious and the side of rice with which it is served soak up all that saucy goodness. The mushrooms add more flavor and this dish would bear repeating if it were more generous. I also ordered to go their rice and chicken, which is essentially a chicken and sausage paella with some veggies. It is a generous serving of comfort food which two people can share, as is the case with all their paella. Paella is a great value at Sevilla and is one of the reasons people return to Sevilla frequently. The chicken and sausage were excellent and flavorful, especially the sausage. Experience old world charm and please your palate at Sevilla. You'll become a regular from your first bite. Four consistent stars! read more

We popped into Sevilla Restaurant for a drink at the bar while we waited for our dinner reservations elsewhere. The restaurant interior had European-style charm. Without knowing what their specialties were, I suspected Sevilla was a Spanish restaurant based on the seafood rice dishes on nearly every table. I figured they were paella. We kept it simple and ordered classic cocktails among the 3 of us: old fashioned, dirty martini with gin, and dirty martini with vodka. No complaints about the cocktails; they were were fine. A little hospitality from the bar staff would've been nice though. When my husband tried to square up the bill, our bartender made eye contact with him but proceeded to take care of other people at the bar. Classic West Village restaurant. Like the other reviews say, the bartender did sling "the usual" to regulars but was not hospitable to me at all, slow and disinterested. The menu has a lot of variety. For the price ($47.50?) the seafood paella was good, but not traditional. Much more of a steamed boil than a fragrant pan-fried paella. It did have a good amount of seafood and it was just slightly more than I could finish myself. Live music, formal waitstaff, and serious charm, but not a place I see myself returning to consistently. read more

Came here on a Friday night on December, i knew it'd be crazy buys due to holiday and was trying to make reservation but to no avail I was getting a reservation for table of 3 online. We went to the restaurant around 7 and was waited to be seated, there's 2 parties ahead of us, there's an old man who acknowledged our presence with not much communication, thankfully the wait was so long as I was growing impatience after 15 mins. we were seated by a nice window booth seat, but to get there was a challenge even though all of us are pretty petite! So finally, ordered a carafe of house wine, sangria, Spanish chacuterie board w olives, we opt for seafood and lobster paella, veal and sausage. Paella was flavorful from the seafoods but the rice was abit soggy IMO, they use their traditional aluminum pan, i didn't quite like the text of the rice. veal was abit disappointed as it's chewy, tasted like a bland turkey meats w gravy, thankfully sausage compensates the flavor. Overall, I was not impressed w the foods in general, service was abit slow due to friday, my water was not filled the entire time. It's definitely narrowing dining and can be a little uncomfortable for someone on the fuller side, although it did help with an upright posture. Aside from the seating, I really enjoyed this establishment for what it did which was provide a very Spanish style eating experience as one catches up with friends.
