We went up and went to the bar (mind you, no one had asked for our IDs at all since the moment we walked in) and got a drink and an appetizer. For a Tuesday night, it was very busy, however we waited patiently for our appetizer, because we understand and worked for the food industry as well. We finally got our appetizer and decided to put in a second round of drinks. The lady bartender all of the sudden stated that we were going to be cut off because "we think you guys looked too young and we think you guys have a fake, so you can't get anymore drinks from any of the bartenders"...... Okay..... so my friend is 27 and I'm 23 years old. We're both Asian. I'm very flattered you think we both look under 21, but we honestly don't. So I'm not understanding what is happening because ONE no one has checked our IDs so there's no way they could've said they were fake. We went to get verified with the security guard and he said we were good. TWO how do you cut someone off based of how they looked??? I don't know. If I could give this place more than five stars I would. From the time that we entered the building the concierge out front was extremely welcoming. He escorted us up to the restaurant in the elevator and was personable and professional. It was such a nice greeting to jump start our evening. The hotel gave me old school Hollywood vibes. With pics of celebrities decorating the walls. The greenery entering and inside. The furnishings gave you that old Hollywood feel. The color scheme was soft and bold with the color combination all tying together perfectly. I love to decorate so decor and ambiance are important to me. A great first impression. Once we arrived the hostess again very welcoming, personable and professional as well. When we entered the restaurant on the way to our table , I was blown away. I felt like I was entering a fairytale it was so pretty. I absolutely loved it. The colors of blue( my favorite) pastel pink was masculine yet feminine. It was early evening about 6, so the sun was still out. The day lighting was really fabulous. The view outside was "off the charts" that means it was breathtaking of the city. You could see as far as the Hollywood sign. Our table was in the perfect location, because although we were sitting inside we had a great view of the outside as well. Each table had pink flowers in a vase as the center piece with a candle. I thought was a nice touch. Again, ambiance is everything. There was music playing throughout which just added to the whole old school vibes because it was cool yet funky. It had me dancing in my seat... lol. Our sever Sara was very knowledgeable about the menu. She had a warm smile and took excellent care of us. She was attentive and did not miss a beat. Tristan the wait staff went above and beyond with his customer service. He made sure we felt welcome, was so kind, and down to earth. He answered our questions and helped us with whatever we needed. Between Tristan and Sara the service was a perfect 10. So this is not a dinner spot. It has appetizers only but they are perfect when your drinking and not that hungry . The drink menu is very robust with a variety of options to choose from. We ordered our signature drink.... Whiskey sour, and it was perfect. Smoked salmon dip w/ caviar on top served with baked potato chips. It was good and held us over while enjoying the ambiance and our drinks. The burger was cooked medium rare, which is not my cup of tea, so make sure you specify how you want it cooked , otherwise it will come out medium rare. We sent it back and Sara was nice enough to ask if we wanted it cooked more. We passed but nothing against the restaurant at all. I'm sure alot of people like it that way. Anywho, the entire experience from beginning to end was "simple marvelous darling ". We will most certainly be going back. Thank you for the wonderful experience. I usually don't write these as I don't believe some yelp reviews are valid/necessary. I attended their New Year's event a couple days ago. This place was filled with under age kids. A few people came up to me and mentioned they were still in high school. I understand there will always be a few of these in clubs. The ratio of underage kids was at least 50%. These children were acting their age and trying to start fights for no reason. I'll be contacting the liquor commission with a formal complaint. This establishment's owner/leadership should take a look at the video footage and immediately fire the bouncers who let these CHILDREN into a club that people paid $100+ plus to get into. I will never go back to Bar Lis and will continue to share this story. read more

Very beautiful rooftop lounge. We went Saturday night for some bites + dinner and unfortunately aside from the beauty of the lounge, there isn't much to write home about. We arrived at 8:50 (20 mins late to our res) and were okay with just going somewhere else if needed but the woman at the host stand went ahead and let us know we'd still be able to sit down even though we were 5 mins past the grace period! Upon sitting down, we were not given menus, water, or really anything aside from somewhere to sit. After about 5 mins we try to get the attention of the waitstaff and the man asks if "we just sat down here" as if we didn't have a reservation. After 10 minutes, we kept trying to flag someone down but opted to ask the host for menus (where she then asked if we wanted another one after giving us just one menu). We were sitting across from each other and the menus are small - not the type to share if you're both looking at it. Anyways, after about 20 minutes we finally got the servers attention and while she was apologetic and even gave us some champagne on the house for the wait, I was fairly disappointed already. The drinks and charcuterie board come and they're good. I think my judgement was clouded because the service and coordination between their waitstaff is lacking. Towards the end of our hour or so there, the host came up to us to ask if the people next to us had left. We were part of a party of white people and even when one of the girls came down to get us, the racist security laughed and said no and then another guy came over and said No and we said though we already have a table how much and he said no to allowing us to pay even though everybody else in the regular line paid to go in. Then after realizing exactly how racist they were being they let us up with the rest of our party. Came here for dinner and bites tonight! A friend has been keeping tabs on Bar Lis for a while and invited me to try it out with her. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect. Been to many LA rooftop bars - some pretentious, some spectacular. What I like about Bar Lis is that they don't pretend to make it about the food. This is clearly the place you come for ambience (which they nailed) and drinks (which they nailed). There's a reason why their food menu is named "Canapés" or h'ors d'oeuvres. They are small, share plates not really meant to serve as a complete meal. Despite this, I was pleasantly surprised at the two food items we got - the country bread with ricotta, honey, and cracked pepper and the smoked salmon spread with potato chips. Both were good but between the two, get the country bread. That ricotta and honey is just perfect! For drinks we tried the espresso martini, strawberry fields, French Riviera, and summer spritz. Cocktails were immaculate. Perfectly executed, not too sweet, not too strong. Probably the best espresso martini I've had. Service was impeccable - we were not rushed and the waitresses were not snooty like a lot of LA spots (iykyk) Selma and Brooke helped us tonight and they were wonderful - gave suggestions and checked up on us frequently. It's very rare that I actually want to go out of my way to write a review, especially a negative one. We went to Bar List to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was one of the worst experiences I've had to a bar/restaurant. We had booked a reservation for eight and arrived before there was any sort of crowd. We were seated on a comfy bench with two small coffee tables between us all. This was surprising for a place that serves full meals such as pasta. We tried to get reseated but there was nothing that would fit our party, drinks and food well. I would highly suggest to them that if you are going to take reservations and serve meals, you should reduce the max number of people on a reservation or provide comfortable seating for dining. Service was a complete farce. Our waitress took our drink orders quickly after we arrived but rarely came back to fill waters. Only half of our group was served those first drinks in a timely manner. Several drinks came out well over an hour after being ordered and this was only because we reminded them that we were still pending orders. We were given the excuse that they were understaffed, though the restaurant was not crowded and on several occasions we observed our waiter standing around chatting with the bartender. That being said, the runner who brought our food over saw that our table was too small for us and took it upon himself to make us more comfortable. He was really the light in the whole situation. The food itself was strange. Several of my friends got the pasta which they seemed happy with, but the hot wings tasted like they were spritzed with lavender perfume, which was not appetizing. The biggest offender was the "aioli" served with the fries. It tasted less like aioli and more like sour cream mixed with lemon. That description doesn't really do a service to how off it tasted from our expectations (and this is coming from someone who loves any sort of aioli). We were lucky that they served ketchup with the fries too. I want to emphasize that everyone at our table empathizes with how difficult serving can be, but we only saw our server around three times even though we were a large table. If we didn't have to wait as long as we did, we would have happily gotten more drinks. The level of neglect and the fact that gratuity was built in made us feel like we needed to speak up. Our waitress could do nothing to discount the drinks that were late so we called over the manager. He took down our information so we could receive a refund which we are still waiting on. One last thing to be warned about: there is an additional 5% charge on the bill. This charge is apparently to cover rent. Why this can't be covered by cost of a $500 bottle of Jameson ($20 at your local store) I do not know. I truly hope that Bar Lis can make some changes because the venue, ambience and drinks have a lot of great potential, but at this point I cannot recommend this place to anyone. read more

I came to Bar Lis last night for a date with my sister and it was a beautiful experience. Our reservations were at 7 pm and they give us a 15 minute grace period because we all know LA traffic is unforgiving. There is parking available around the restaurant but your best bet is to take a ride share because it's way more convenient. The ambiance was brilliant with a beautiful view overlooking Hollywood. If you're looking for a place to eat, this place is not for that, they have a few menu items with little appetizers but it's mainly a spot for drinks and vibes. Also it turns into a club at 10pm so they give a 90 minute dine limit. Overall I would say this is a decent place to hangout and lounge with friends. read more

Brought my best friend here who was visiting from out of town. I picked this place for the views, but the food really didn't disappoint either! I read some reviews that the service was lacking, but I will say that was not our experience. We were running late for our reservation and they were very accommodating. All of our drinks and food came out quickly and our waitress was very nice. We were there during earlier dinner hours that did not overlap with the clubbier vibe that Bar Lis transitions to at some point in the night, so it honestly was a very chill ambiance. Paid $73 dollars for the house vodka then got told our table was ready to close our tab so I did just that and left her a CASH tip and went to sit down. I woke up the next day and checked my email and saw that they had updated the amount. No place should have the right to take out money that wasn't authorized in the first place.
