    No choice on tips
    Ryan U.

The vibe, cheugy. Views were really nice on the terrace portion, but aside from that, it just felt sleezy. Bouncers. Probably the biggest stain on the carpet for this place. A couple were cool. But majority of roaming bouncers thought they were important. Just bulldozing their way with flashlights through groups of people, unapologetically, disregarding patrons conintually. The DJ (spotify playlist) playing was house mostly. I'm not a fan of mandatory tip amount, personally. Flat 20% "service fee," so no choice on tip, which isn't how tips work. Pass on this place.

Enjoyed having a nice breakfast with excellent American breakfast. Service is attentive and it has a great vibe. Rooftop is up and away from the busy city street.

The website says no shorts and stricter attire, and reservations are suggested, but neither really applied. Adorable rooftop with a top-notch, charming waiter. Food and drinks were expensive but delicious, and they even surprised our 23-year-old son with a birthday treat. Such a fun spot for a special occasion!

I'm honestly disappointed. I had read other reviews about how great this place was and other reviews that weren't so great. I believed sometimes opinions don't matter, decided to try this myself since we were staying close by. Immaculate vibes, absolutely adorable and beyond chic. Everything was well designed and you can tell everything was meticulously place to curate the best ambience for what this place claims to be. Our server was nice, she was new. She was helpful! We had ordered some drink and just a little share something before we had to go to our show. Afraid, we didn't have enough time to try anything else on the menu, we thought of coming back. At first everything seemed great. Then came the drinks and the shares. Drink was salty... apparently they are aware the drink, la rose, would be "doing that salty thing", so maybe it isn't in my palate. I got another drink, that one was amazing. The came the burrata. For $23, you get the 1 whole slice of toast ( cut in half) and the cheese with the pesto. SUPER SALTY! I don't know what was happening but it seemed like they really wanted to make everything salty. So... ok fine. But with that being said, we each had once slice of bread, we ordered more bread ($4) for a slice cut in half.... I'm upset at the fact we received it 20 mins later with the bread burnt.

This spot offers spectacular views of the city. It's located next to the rooftop pool on the top of The Hollywood Grande. They have umbrellas and sun shades, in case it gets too sunny. At night, there was always a line out the door, but we did get to experience brunch. For brunch, we got the chia pudding, pancakes, breakfast sandwich, and American breakfast. I loved the chia pudding. I'm going to see if I can recreate it at home. It was that good! The breakfast sandwich was pretty big and served with a side of crispy potatoes. The potatoes were really good. They were crispy, but not overly oily. The American breakfast plate was also plenty big. The pancakes were really good and came with freshly whipped vanilla cream. You can definitely share dishes and still be satisfied.

This probably isn't the most accurate review since I didn't actually eat or drink here, but I had to write about how nice this rooftop was! I was here for a birthday, and I almost didn't go due to sheer laziness, but I live about 3 blocks away so I really had no excuse not to go. Same side of the street as Mother Wolf, the entrance for Bar Lis is the elevator behind the velvet rope on the sidewalk. I was guided by a nice door guy who gave us access to the top floor. A host stand is right in front as you exit the elevator, and if you turn right from there, you see the fountain in the bar area. If you keep walking, you'll see seating and a dance floor, continuing around to the pool area (had you gone left at the host stand, you would have encountered this area first). Upon arriving early, it wasn't so busy and people were still eating dinner in the same room as the bar/fountain. About an hour later, it was packed! This was on a Saturday, so I shouldn't be surprised. Ended up leaving the party on the earlier side, but I certainly won't hesitate if someone else has their birthday here.

I came here as one of the stops on my birthday. The spot itself is very pretty and the drinks are decent. However, I'd say they are nothing too special. The vibe the night I went (Saturday) was pretty lowkey, making for a more relaxed experience. My waitress was really great! She gave me, my sister, and my mom a round of champagne for my birthday.

Jazz night is Tuesday! Beautiful location on the top of the Hollywood Grande Hotel (formerly the Thompson Hotel). Open-air view of the Hollywood Hills and Downtown LA. The atrium has a retractable roof and there is private elevator for more exclusive events. During the day you can also enjoy their Terrace restaurant and they make a great club sandwich. The mixed drinks are fantastic. The service is welcoming and so nice. A rooftop oasis.

Picture the perfect California sunset as the backdrop whilst in a beautiful rooftop setting with delicious drinks, eye candy abounding and good vibes rolling. That's a good summation of my time at Bar Lis! I'm unsure of the dress code but definitely wear something cute or sophisticated. I'd hate to be underdressed here. You walk to the right of the hotel entrance and find a gentleman at the ready to whisk you inside to the elevators. Hop in and head to the rooftop where we were greeted by a beautiful, tall hostess with a smile. The hospitality here was certainly top notch. We were seated in direct view of the Hollywood hills sign and with perfect views of the sunset. While I want to believe every seat has a great view, we didn't even have to get up to take some amazing photos. A great place to catch up with friends or for an intimate date. Our server was beyond sweet and had great recommendations. Very short review here in that everything was pretty amazing and they are very accommodating. We had some table neighbors that seemed to be a bit more "hyper" than the vibe but it was non issue and handled well. The drinks were amazing, tasty, and potent. My favorite was definitely the Bonnie & Clyde, so give that a shot if you enjoy gin. I didn't use the restrooms but I wish I had to ensure it all matched the vibe they have going. Good addition to the circuit or to end the night. I definitely plan on returning!

Great vibe, live music nights are legendary too! The kitchen is in collab with the award winning Mother Wolf right below. So even though their menu may not be huge, the quality is there! Definitely a vibe so pull up & stay eatin asap! Soutout to Top Class Jeff & the entire staff.

I highly suggest making a reservation. We came here for a relatively early dinner at 6:45pm. It was still quite bright. You do get a good view of Hollywood. I suggest making a reservation for 7pm so you can catch the sunset better. Sunset is around 8pm during summer in LA. This is a roof-top French inspired restaurant, lounge and bar serving a mix of French and Southern California cuisine. For appetizers, we got the Dungeness Crab Cake and the Roasted Carrots. The carrots were cooked nicely and the sauce it came with (which was comprised of sumac yogurt, mint and almonds) exuded great minty flavor and a nice crunch. The crab cake was just ok. For the main courses, the Roasted Chicken came out surprisingly delicious. The exterior was crispy without being dry and the stung honey combined with the Jimmy Nardello Peppers gave this dish a delicious combination of sweet, spicy and savory. The portion was bigger than I expected. My partner got the Smashed Cheeseburger. That was pretty good too. The food, ambiance were both really good. Service was lacking. The servers are really attractive. I just wish they could be more attentive, then this place would deserve 5 star! This restaurant is located inside the Thompson Hotel. There is a side entrance for Bar Lis, and the area opens up for dancing on many nights after 10pm.

This place is very cute for a hangout with the girls! (Great photo ops!) Service is good too. I ordered the smash cheeseburger and it was okay, the spicy vodka was probably the winner from everything we ended up ordering. Overall would say try it for the aesthetic!

Went here on a Saturday night. Good views and Music with live DJ. Walked in without reservations and had no issues. Drinks were ok. Most tables require bottle service with the exception of the few tables by bar area.

    Is there Jazz on Tuesdays?

Yes. To book a reservation for Tuesday's "Jazz Eclectic," please email jazz@barlisla.com

    Do they take apple pay?

    Indeed, we do.

Does anyone know what type of music they played on Saturday nights? Whats the vibe like?

Do they accept walk ins? Is there an open seating bar?

They did accept walk ins but we had to wait around standing because even the waiting area tables had to be reserved.

Do you have to be 21 to enter?

Hello! Yes, you must be 21 to enter the venue.

Are reservations required for small groups (2-4)?

I think so - we made them to be safe but not sure if you could just show up. We were there early so it wasn't crowded and did a nice job spacing parties.

Do they play a variety of music ? Or are there specific days when they play specific music genres?

    Mostly polka

With the updates for LA, does one still need to show proof of vaccination to dine here?

    Obviously

What kind of music is played on Friday nights?

The couple times we've gone on Fridays it's been disco/house. Always a fun time.

I don't see reservation available for Sat night. Can people do walk in?

Yes - but its difficult depending on how busy they are. This is a bit of a scene on weekends so make sure you are up on the dress code too.

Do you have to be fully vaccinated to enjoy dinner here?

HI Philomena, Yes, per the new Los Angeles city-wide mandate, we are required to ask for guests…

We had to get the Michelada Oysters again because I had been craving them since our last visit. They were just as amazing as I remembered--fresh, perfectly seasoned, and seriously addicting. For Dine LA, I started with the Tostada Campechana, which was like an elevated ceviche with scallops, tuna, yellowtail, avocado, and a citrus sesame sauce. Everything tasted super fresh and the citrus gave it the perfect balance. The Bone Marrow Mole was rich, flavorful, and came with a generous portion and toast. For my main course, I had the skirt steak, which was cooked perfectly--tender, well-seasoned, and delicious with the green sauce. The homemade tortillas were amazing too. We ended with the Dulce de Leche Panna Cotta, and it was the perfect finish--creamy, smooth, not overly sweet, and so good we practically cleaned the plate. Amazing food, great portions, beautiful atmosphere, and excellent service. Ka'teen definitely delivered. I would absolutely come back again.

The restaurant really does feel tucked away once you get inside the Rodeo Collection. The space has warm lighting, colorful details, and a playful Mexican-inspired look that makes dinner feel fun without becoming over-the-top. We started with guacamole and empanadas before moving on to tacos. The Baja Style Fish Tacos were a favorite, with crisp fish, fresh slaw, and chipotle aioli. I also had the Grilled Prime New York Taco, and the steak was cooked really well and stayed tender. With the caramelized onion, guacamole, and salsa fresca, it had plenty of flavor without feeling overloaded. Between those two, we were already very happy with our taco choices, and there wasn't much left on the table by the end. The cocktails were excellent. My friend's drink came served in this ceramic donkey, and we immediately became a little obsessed with it. We loved it enough that the donkey somehow ended up making an appearance in half our photos by the end of the night. Our server checked in throughout dinner and gave us plenty of time to enjoy everything without ever making us feel rushed. We finished with churros, which arrived with dipping sauces and were a very easy decision once dessert was mentioned. They also offer valet, which is especially convenient for a Rodeo Drive dinner. I went in because Instagram kept putting The Hideaway in front of me. For once, my feed was useful. I'd happily come back for the tacos, cocktails, and another round with that donkey making its inevitable cameo.

Once we mentioned that we were there for the Girls Brunch, it honestly felt like the demeanor toward our table changed. The service was extremely slow. We waited around 30 minutes between some of the food items, our drinks were forgotten, and we were rarely checked on throughout the meal. I'm usually pretty understanding when restaurants are busy or short-staffed, but that didn't seem to be the case during our visit. Between the long waits, forgotten drinks, and lack of even a simple "How is everything?", the experience became frustrating, especially since we were there to celebrate birthdays. Unfortunately, the food and drinks were mediocre as well, so the overall experience just didn't feel worth the time. I really wanted to enjoy this place and the Girls Brunch seemed like such a fun idea, but based on our experience, I unfortunately won't be returning.

We were honestly falling asleep waiting for the actual entertainment to begin. The entire night felt chaotic from the moment we arrived. You spend time getting dressed up, planning a date night, driving downtown, and trying to be excited for the experience, only to park in a dark lot with feces and urine in the stairway. It was scary and disgusting. We looked past the parking lot situation because we were excited to enjoy our night out, but unfortunately the experience only got worse from there. The waitress kept pushing us to order more items, which made the whole night feel like a money grab. The food was absolutely embarrassing and nothing like what was advertised in the gallery photos on the website. It honestly felt like it came straight from Costco. Other reviews mentioned food being served on paper plates, and we can confirm that we experienced that too. The slice of pizza was literally Costco pizza. The pizza and snacks were cheap, low-quality, and nowhere near what you would expect for the price. It really makes you wonder how many people feel misled by that kind of advertising. There was also a complete lack of control and management. People who did not pay for reserved seating were hovering nearby, ready to take your seat the second you got up to use the restroom or go to the dance floor. We saw multiple people weasel their way into reserved lounge and table areas on the ground floor. At one point, a couple was even going through someone's fur coat and looked close to taking belongings before the actual couple returned. That alone says a lot about the environment and lack of security. The billing situation made it even worse. The waitress quickly skipped through the itemized receipt, which made it easy to miss that a 20% tip had already been included. We ended up tipping on top of the included gratuity and only realized it afterward. At that point, we felt completely scammed. We spent over $300, and the overall experience and management were absolutely not worth it. To be fair, some of the acts were great and the band was great. Separate from that, everything else was as mentioned. Between the deceptive billing, weak drinks that barely seemed to have alcohol, the delayed start, boring dance lessons, embarrassing food, poor seating control, and lack of management, the whole experience was extremely disappointing. I definitely do not recommend reserving seats, drinking at this event, or buying their food.
