We came here with a group of 6 yesterday. I was happy we got a seat right and didn't have to wait since this spot only takes walk ins and no reservations. We ordered a round of drinks, a bunch of pizzas and appetizers. I really liked the "garlic stick " appetizer. Its really delish - comes with a really yummy honey mayo sauce. I ordered the " Aged and Confused" pizza - also pretty good : the toppings were bomb - love fresh figs ..but really salty because of the cheese they used (I love salt so its ok ... but just letting those who cant tolerate it know) . My hubs ordered "The Off White" pizza with Truffle Oil. It was a yummy pizza but too much cauliflower for me. He really liked it. Now 3 stars because... all the drinks were watered down. Literally 5 people at the table complained about this and the funny part is that the bartender came over to give us a lecture ... telling us that because we are from the states- thats why the drinks taste watered down LOL (fyi - the only person who was from the states at the table was me ... and I wasn't the one who told him about the drink situation ). Second - one of the guys from our group went to go speak to the waitress. She saw him waiting to speak to her but acted like he wasn't there while she was speaking to someone. He went to go sit down because he gave up waiting for her. After some time, she comes up to the table and goes to him : "Hey I saw you standing there but I was talking to someone... what did you need?"... Um... seriously ? You can't look over and say something like "Give me one second, I'll be right with you" if you saw him standing there. Overall, interesting experience but not sure if I would come back. read more

My boss (Ms. Snakepitt) sent me on a NIGHTMARE marketing and recruitment trip to Toronto to try to save our company from bankruptcy and ruin (I made a grave tax error in our 2021 filing that has cost the company a small fortune in penalties). It is not fair that I had to go alone because I don't understand marketing or recruitment and am SO nervous about my job security. She told me that I was not her "first choice" for the trip because my business instincts are "nearly guaranteed to be both criminal and misled" but said ALL other members of our work staff declined to participate in this trip. I have been passing out homemade flyers that say: "HELP NEEDED" with my personal phone number on them and am exhausted after receiving dozens of prank calls from Toronto teenagers. Fortunately, I stumbled upon this truly STUNNING bar and have been using Ms. Snakepitt's company VISA to buy myself cocktails so that I can FINALLY relax after a hard day of meaningless and degrading work. I know tomorrow will be a better day and want to personally thank the kind staff at Bar Poet for encouraging me to do my best. I love Toronto and might just stay here if my company continues to flounder under Ms. Snakepitt's oversight. read more

I have only been here for dinner (not for bar drinking at night) and honestly, phenomenal. The bar poet lager is good and reasonably priced and the microdose pizza is OFF THE CHARTS. Can't say better things about it. Perfectly cooked, nice and salty dough, has a creamy garlic sauce on it, mushrooms were flavourful. Service was also great! We went on Sunday afternoon and had some of the best pizza we've had in a while. I had the hot rod with a Donair dipping sauce and it was delicious, the high-quality pepperoni with a bit of a bite coupled with the sweetness of the donair sauce was delectable. Some wasp traps might be a good idea as it took away from the enjoyment of our meal because we were constantly swatting them away. I will agree with people about the hostess, she definitely needs some training and some people skills. Our waiter on the other hand was super friendly. Will definitely go again. read more

Heard about this place from family and decided to stop in while in town visiting. Love the decor; I can see why this place is packed in the evenings - we came by on a Tuesday afternoon. Staff if friendly and informative of the menu. Had three pizzas between two of us allowing for leftovers to enjoy the next day. Crowded for anyone sitting at the high top tables on the bar side, you'll get bumped in the back every time somebody walks by. The pizza was burnt and not in the intentional way. People at the table next to us were vaping all night right in front of the servers and not subtlety without anybody saying anything to them. Overall after all the hype this place definitely disappointed. read more

Food was decent (what you would expect from most downtown toronto rests) but what was shocking was the service. I work in the industry myself so I can understand a busy night or other occurrences, although this is definitely not the case. What a fun time! Great atmosphere, the bartenders wearing WWE shirts and so much laughter. The place gets packed quickly after 6pm so hit it up early if you have a bigger party. The food is great, can't eat just one 1 pizza try them all! read more

How do I start? After 3 years of living in Canada, I visited this 'BAR' yesterday and I had the worst experience in a Bar ever since. I have been working in customer service for the past 15 years and had visited many countries on four different continents and never felt so disrespected and discriminated against in my life. We had a reservation to celebrate our anniversary, we were aware of the limited 2h stay and we were okay with it this time frame at the dining table, after eating we thought it would be great to stay longer for drinks. Even though the bar is a walk-in after 9 PMand it was about 9:30 PM we notice a space at the bar area and we decided to ASK BEFORE MOVING our waiter if it was okay to move, she checked with her 'manager' and she said it was okay. About 5 minutes after we moved one of the two staff at the bar came to us and said we could not move from the table to the bar, we argued that we had asked before moving and because it was a first-come, first-serve base after 9 PM we should be allowed to stay, again he went to check with the same 'manager' that told him we could stay for a limited time of about 40 minutes. We again said that nobody had told this us before when suddenly his bud, which seemed to be a white racist tall kind of style, came to ask us to leave again and we asked him to call his manager. To our surprise the manager came saying we had disrespected her team and we should leave, of course, they probably had done this with many other customers because we never disrespected them, we made clear our point and stand for our right to stay, we don't feel that going out on a Friday night and staying in a 'BAR' (not a restaurant) from 7:30 to 9:30is enough and we could leave to a different bar if they said right in the beginning that we could not sit on the bar. On their last move, we felt completely unsafe, discriminated against, and harassed not to say worst. The 'manager' arranged 3/4 people of her 'crew' or I could say, 'gang', and they all came and blocked out ways, in the meantime the bar guy took our drinks and they escorted us out of the bar in a stressful and traumatic situation for some of us. The 'manager' never tried to engage in a respectful conversation and showed a clear signal of an untrained person. Our waitress was very nice and did apologize during the whole situation but it was clear that she couldn't say anything because her 'manager' has no management skills. The tall guy from the bar and the manager should not be working in the hospitality sector if they can't have empathy for their customers. We ended up looking to report this in a police station but turns out they can do whatever they want in a private space, they probably know that and that is why they act like this but I do believe someday in the future they will face a young lawyer that will make it happen. Never going back to this place again and I hope this gets to the owner or representatives so can do something about it. read more

Although my friend and I have dined at Bar Poet previously, our experience yesterday has somewhat soured our view of the establishment. We had a reservation for 7PM, however, we arrived early for the off-chance that we could be seated earlier at 6.The person greeting us was happy to oblige and he directly led us to a table outside. 1 hour into our dinner, the host (a different person from our greeter) arrived and with an accusatory tone, stated that we were supposed to be seated at the table beside us (which was at the moment, occupied) and presumed that we changed tables midway through. Obviously in awe and in confusion of the situation since our greeter led us to our seat, we tried to explain, but the host sputtered, "Well then he probably led you to the wrong spot, but you aren't supposed to be here", without offering solutions. He continued to stress that a reservation was booked for our very spot. At that point, we had to ask what he wanted us to do, to which he responded that they could seat us inside, with no remedy for the poor service we received from him. On all other accounts, the food was pleasant and the other servers were very apologetic. I understand being a host can be stressful as a former host, but when you're dealing with customers especially regarding an issue that the restaurant was responsible for, your customers should at the very least be treated with kindness and respect. We would have been happy to help if the host explained the mix-up and kindly requested us to move. However, our encounter with the host did not go as such and we may need to reconsider Bar Poet as a restaurant that we would want to frequent in the future. read more

Shoutout Arielle, she planned my whole Birthday dinner and it was probably the best meal I've ever had.

I thought this was going to be a great experience but when we arrived I knew it wasn't going to be enjoyable. The hostess said there's no wait list and that we couldn't grab a drink at the bar until a table was ready for us The hostess was BARELY at the stand and never updated us on a table until the manager actually made sure for us to get a table (Thank god for him) Our server was decent but speaking to the host constantly and not really checking up on us. We had to constantly wave her down We're a table of 3; and we ordered food and our pizza came unsliced .... the food was delicious though (no complaints) Drink menu - decent but def a mark up.... a can of Guinness for 10.50$... that could be better. I do understand that restaurants have a few kinks to workout whenever they open but I believe hiring adequate front of house staff resonates on how organized the restaurant is..... read more

Service is rude. Food is okay. The staff is the I'm-too-cool-for-school type, like queen st. warehouse, where they don't treat their customers with respect and management doesn't seem to care. The staff has no understanding of the service industry. I came here twice because it was new in my hood and I quickly realized it was the same owners as warehouse.
