(Forgive my crappy rhymes, but with the name "Bar Poet, I felt like I had to put some rhymes. Please bear with it lol) This review is solely based on my odd walk-in interaction last night and safe to say it was not a pretty sight. I'm not trying to be a prude but service was a little bit rude. Our initial interaction was great as we asked for a table for four, they had a table that was changing to another, opening up near the door. The hostess told us they had a table but we found out that was a mere fable. Seems like when her manager came out, that promised table that was now empty, somehow sat plenty. My friends and I thought this was odd, there was an empty table that was promised and yet the manager decided to say that the patio was full - we thought that was a bunch of bull. Bar Poet is also advertised to be open til 2AM everyday yet last call was 10:30 last night, hearing this news made us take flight. Driving by later around midnight it seemed like the restaurant was closed - seems like some of their advertisements are opposed. read more

Have been seeing this bar everywhere on my instagram. Beautiful interior with the lights and the forest decor. Came here twice and the second time the hostess was really rude. We arrived there around 10 and she said seats will be available at 1130 - i asked her if she will contact us if theres earlier spots and she bluntly said no there wont be as people just sat down. For a place this busy, I'm surprised they don't have a check-in system that utilizes SMS. You'll check in with the host, they give you a wait time, and will ask you to wait outside (fire hazard perhaps). They'll come out every so often to call people in when their seat is ready. The "Life is Gucci" pizza is a must order (thank you Yelp). Ordered the Sour Poet cocktail which was just ok, nothing special. Sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive. Gorgeous place to visit. I came about two weeks ago on a Monday night with my girlfriend because I had seen this place on friends social media stories and I liked how the ambience looked as well as the food. That being said we arrived and both my gf and I didn't like our seats and when we asked the hostess about seating changes she was pretty rude and wasn't really listening to us. Even if there was no possibility to switch seats there is really no reason to be rude, this was mainly the reason why my gf and I had left after getting an app and our two drinks We had gotten the garlic fingers which were decent, I don't think they were bad but nothing amazing either but the spicy truffle sauce it came with definitely paired nicely. My gf enjoyed her drink and I enjoyed mine as well, I liked that there was an aftertaste of the red wine in my sangria and overall the drinks were good. I've been to Bar Poet a few times now, and I've tried enough of their menu to put out a fair, honest review. And guess what? It's 5-stars. Getting a decent table at Bar Poet is tough at peak hours. I had a mini-reunion with some old coworkers of mine and the best I could do was 5:30pm on a Thursday. You're only allowed to spend 2 hours when you finally have the table to yourself, but every single time, the folks at Bar Poet were nice enough to extend that time to 3 hours. Bar Poet has a great selection of beer (including their house lager which is only $6.50 for a pint!) and a pretty decent selection of cocktails. But really, you're probably here for the pizza. It's the thin crust, wood-fired oven kind, and it's really, really good. I've tried some of the OG Margherita, Prosciutto, and the "OFF-WHITE" and they're all phenomenal. If I had to choose one of the three, I'd probably go with the boring option - the OG Margherita. Nothing beats a simple cheese pizza with some basil leaves. If you're in the Queen West & Dovercourt area, I'd definitely give Bar Poet a try. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention: there are some pretty lights in the bar. Visiting Toronto for the first time and was told we had to check this spot out. I am so glad too because this place is right up our alley from the atmosphere to the food and A1 customer service! Christina was our server and she was soooo nice and helpful the whole time. She knew we were visiting and kept giving us sold recommendations on things to do and answered all questions we had really going above and beyond. Erick was a delight welcoming us with open arms as soon as we got there, to checking in on us even though we were not his table. I started with these two because they really were our highlight here. However, we loved our food just as much! Got the pizza + salad lunch special. My partner is picky when it comes to salads and she didn't want to share with me. What a truly delightful spot for lunch. The patio was like being in Europe with great umbrellas and seating. The staff are some of the nicest most helpful people and then there is the food. The pizza dough is the best in the city, the prosciutto was perfect, thin with the right amount of saltiness and the basil was as fresh as could be. The house IPA was yummy and then the dreamy creamy delectable Tiramisu to top it off. Perfect for a date, a gathering, a family lunch or just to relax and escape the world while still being a part of downtown. I'm from out of town. Stumbled in on my own looking to have a drink after a long day of work. Great atmosphere. Was planning to just have a drink but then the bartender (max) kindly asked me if I was thinking of getting some food. At first, I said no, but then to have some conversation, I asked him what he'd recommend. He mentioned the crispy mushroom arancini and how he's eaten it countless times. I used to work at a plant based restaurant and liked that he was recommending that option, so I thought I'd try it and tell him what I really think. Really just average. Nothing special. The food was a bit over priced and it was just ehhh. The rigatoni my friend got was really al dente, like too al dente, like not cooked enough. And it was a small portion. The casablanca pizza I got was spicier than I thought it would be and the crust had no flavor and was soggy. The chicken on it was tasty though so I ended just eating off the chicken chunks. The drinks were okay too. I got the "port before the storm" but I think there was just too much ginger beer in there. The ginger was way over powering, I couldn't taste anything else. Also the place was super packed, we were told a 5 hour wait without a reservation! They magically had 2 seats at the bar so we sat there, but I can't believe it was a 5 hour wait. Or who would wait that long, just close the waitlist off at that point. Also horrible bathrooms. Dirty. And whoever put together the stalls failed miserably. One had a huge 3inch gap where everyone can see you go to the bathroom, the other one the door didn't close. womp womp. read more

First thing to know about this place is how crowded it can get. If you don't want to wait 1 hour, try and come on an off peak time (ie Monday dinner). I tried the fig and arugula white pizza. Twas the night before christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. But that's okay. I found somewhere else to go. I went to the Bar Poet, which is the fabulous little bar on queen street west. They were open on Christmas Eve. I was going solo, and the staff made me feel right at home. I started off with bread and butter and warm olives, and the butter was whipped with garlic and salt. It is heaven on a plate!  My main course was the  recommended Chef's Sausage and Rapini pizza, and it was freaking awesome. The pizza had a spicy rose sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, hot Italian sausage, pecorino Romano, raping pepperoncini, and cracked black pepper. I also had a few drinks, and the one I liked the most was the French Flip Toast. It was tequila, madeira, creme de cacao, and a few other secret ingredients. You can't get through to the restaurant via phone and so you're required to send an email to the general manager, who was entirely unhelpful and took over a week to respond to a request for a bday party reservation (that Resy couldn't accommodate). A nice place for a date night - Bar Poet has a good vibe, decor that I would call industrial tropical oasis, a DJ, good pizza, and most importantly, skee-ball machines. Skee-ball remains the perfect date night activity - some friendly competitio that gets you moving after eating and drinking. Put it together with an interesting cocktail program and a DJ, and you have a good spot for a weekend night - the major downside is how hard it can be to get into, so reservations are strongly recommended for any night when the weather is nice. It fills up early, so if you don't get there before 5, expect a wait. Prices are just ok and perhaps a little overpriced, so Happy Hour may be a perfect move. By the time we ate, drank, played Skee Ball and left, the lineup was insane. The 5.0 pizza with crispy bacon and grilled pineapple was freaking awesome, and my companions also loved the 3 Little Pigs (basically meat lovers pie) and the Life is Gucci (white pizza with mortadella, pistachios and hot honey). The pizzas were small yet filling, and reasonably priced. Saw pictures of the inside of this place floating around on social media and my interest was immediately piqued. "But their indoors looks like outdoors?? Whoa!" Got inside and the ambiance did not disappoint. The combination of the wood furniture, fake trees, and delicate string lights made for a magical looking place. A bit smaller than anticipated, the place was loud and busy, but not tooo loud and busy - just enough that you felt like you were a bit cooler for being there. The beer selection is solid and the pizza is a great price. Can't say it was the best pizza I've ever had in Toronto, but it certainly satisfied my craving. The staff were all very polite and easy-going, never felt rushed even after we paid but still wanted to chill and chat for a bit. The online reservation system seems to be a bit buggy, but i did manage to book a table in advance (which is highly recommended as this place fills up fast!). I haven't come across anywhere in a Toronto that serves a similar pizza, so when I found out this place has it, we had to make a trip. It was made perfectly and the honey on the pizza was such a great touch. The chicken pizza was also very good, although I enjoyed the other better. The price of the pizza is great but they are a bit small in size. We were able to finish our pizzas. Drinks were okay, small sized and watered down. Wouldn't say it was worth it for the price. Hostess completely lied about empty tables on the patio said they were taken while we watch people walk up and be seated. I was very close sharing how bad this place was on my stream 2.3m subs would not have been good. In short: good drinks, great decor and vibe, slow service and mediocre pizza. Sat down at the bar, took about 10 minutes to get the bartenders attention. Good old fashions. Pizza took 40 minutes to come out, when it arrived it looked good, but tasted pretty bland... and sour for some reason. This place is BEAUTIFUL inside. And worth a visit for that reason alone. The drinks were good and stiff. Just don't be in a rush. And don't expect too much from the pizza. The prices we're fair. Music and over all vibe was great.
