Stopped in and sat the bar on a Friday night for a few tapas and drinks and it was still just as good as the first time! I love the ambiance here and I enjoy bringing friends in from out of town. The bartenders were friendly and service was quick. Next time I'll try the tres leches!

Great options for Friday in Lent, and the sangria was very good. Waitress was very timely and I will definitely be coming back

Every time I come here I think it's going to be phenomenal and every time I'm disappointed. First thing's first: The service is always phenomenal. The food, however, is just not as good as it should be, especially for the price. We were there tonight and the patatas bravas were not hot and there were almost no potatoes--it was all sauce. And potatoes are cheap! Brussels were okay and the calamari was delicious but 90% crumbs versus actual squid. I will say the paella is typically very good. The worst part was the desert I got to go. The chocolate cake tasted like a prepackaged cake you'd get out of a Little Debbie box. If this place was super cheap I would not have a problem, but with all of the other options in the area, it's just not worth it. But the shining star of this place is, by far, the service.

Glad to see this place has reopened and not too far from their previous location either. I made reservations for 6pm (yes, they take reservations now). When we got there, the place was packed with only a couple of options for a table. We were asked if we preferred the table by the front door, in the middle of the big groups or by the TV at the far end of the restaurant. We chose the last option. We had to wait in the beginning as our waiter finalized everything with the huge table next to us and then he came over. It was about a 10-minute wait before he came and took our orders. We placed drink orders and 3 dishes to start with. The highlight of this visit was truly the lightning speed with which the kitchen staff turned out our orders. Super fast and tasty food were delivered at our table way before our drinks even came. We were finished with one dish and was well into the next when our drinks finally came. Below is the run down of all the things we've tried during our visit: 1. Datiles con cabra - goat cheese filled dates wrapped in bacon and a sauce. Delicious and well-balanced sweet and savory flavors. They also came skewered which was perfect for eating with your hands. 2. Atun con pimienta - peppered tuna steak served atop wilted spinach and rioja reduction. We asked for the tuna steaks to be prepared medium and it was delivered that way. Really good tuna steaks. No complaints for either of us. 3. Pincho de Pollo y chorizo - chicken and chorizo skewer with some aoili sauce. Again, excellent flavors. I love the grilled taste with the kitchen and the spicy chorizo sausage. I wish it was more than just 1 skewer though. 4. Alcachofas fritas - breaded and deep fried artichokes served with some type of tomatoey sauce and aoili. This dish was huge. We actually did not finish because it was a lot of artichokes but that's not a bad thing. 5. Setas amontillado - wild mushrooms sautéed in sherry butter, garlic and parsley. I couldn't taste the parsley, thankfully! But this dish was well prepared and delicious. We had another drink while finishing our dishes. They came slightly faster than our first. While this place was packed, fairly loud, and super busy, we did enjoy the ambiance. Once everything got going, service was fantastic and attentive, especially the kitchen staff and I think, the owner. I love the unpretentious and very friendly feel of this place. Overall, I'm so glad Barcelona in Clayton exists again and we will definitely be back!

Came in around 7:30 on a Thursday and decided to dine in since it wasn't too packed. We ordered the garlic wings (5), beef skewers, beef empanadas, and the veggie paella. Everything was so good I completely forgot to take a "before" picture--so my photo is very much a mid-meal shot. Portions were generous, and we even had leftovers to take home. I also liked that the kitchen is right up front, so you can watch everything being prepared. Our waitress was excellent--she made sure Thursday Night Football was on for us and checked in regularly without hovering. The ambiance is casual but polished: well-lit inside with bar seating and high-top tables, plus outdoor seating if the weather cooperates. Between the food, service, and vibe, Barcelona is definitely worth a return visit.

The environment of the restaurant is top tier. The group I went with got several small plates to share which were all delicious. I loved the calamari and the bacon wrapped dates. The only thing is some of the food took awhile to come out.

I'm always excited about a tapas bar, and Barcelona delivered. Admittedly, there was a bit of the halo effect because one of my favorite tapas spots ever is a chain with the same name (was a little bummed this was not a part of that chain, but still pleased by my experience here). I went for a lunch date mid-week and there was no wait for a walk-in, and we had the option of sitting at the bar or a table (opted for the bar). It's a cute little space with ample seating and cozy vibes. Service was prompt and the staff seemed pretty close-knit (love a spot where the staff seems happy to be there). The menu had the appropriate length, in my opinion. It had quite a number of options without making me feel bad that I couldn't order everything I wanted. Everything was made fresh to order and you could see some of it prepped behind the bar, and the food didn't take long to come out. It was nice to have everything come out piping hot. I both appreciated that we were just given the entire water pitcher to refill our own glasses and felt a little awkward about it. For the dishes -- the sauce of the gambas was perfect, although the shrimp itself was a little overcooked; I wish it came with bread to dip, although you could order a side of their garlic bread. The garlic bread had the perfect consistency of soft and toasted, and I appreciate that it came out pre-sliced in the size that it did. It was a bit cheesier in taste than my preference (I don't even think there is cheese on it so I could not explain this to you), but my partner said he thought it was perfect. Broccolini was really yummy and the balsamic glaze was so good, and I say this as someone who usually doesn't like balsamic. It was the right amount of flavor and sweetness without overwhelming the broccolini. The flavors of the papas bravas was fantastic, and the dish came out exactly how I expected it to (some places try to get too fancy with their papas/patatas bravas and they miss the quintessential flavors that make it the comforting dish that it is). Albondigas were so tender and moist, and I enjoyed them. My partner also ordered the brussel sprouts (I abstained because I don't like raisins, which were included in the dish), and his complaint was it was oilier than he would've liked. Overall, everything was incredibly filling and hit the spot for a nice, gloomy day. We walked away with a lot of leftovers. I would come back if I were craving filling tapas and re-order almost everything I tried, although my partner did feel that everything was made a little heavier than he preferred (I don't mind greasy food). I would still recommend trying this spot out, but probably wouldn't frequent it every week or so.

I was happy to finally check out their new location! It's a bit smaller, but larger than it seems from the outside. The staff was friendly and the food came out quickly. We shared the salmon, patatas bravas, vegetable paella, and a few empanadas and all of the food was just as good as I remembered it. Especially the veggie empanadas :) The paella was new to me, but it was so filling and they really piled the rice and vegetables in the dish. It was cool to be able to watch them cooking the food while we waited.

Such a great spot! I've been before at the old location but it was nice to see this one! I went with two friends and we got 5 tapas and the Valencia-style paella! The portions are all bigger than what you would imagine for tapas. The brocollini was so great, the croquetas incredibly delicious and not too salty and the burrata was also great! We got a pitcher of sangria as well. Great value for the price!

Great food here! My favorite is the tuna steak and the beef tenderloin! The date is also so yummy! We had seven items and we love all of them! Service is nice and quick! Overall it is a super nice place for a group or date night!

    Beef Tenderloin Calamari Paella Arancini

While the presentation was nice, the food didn't quite capture authentic Spanish flavors, and the cost felt a bit high. The sangria leaned more toward a lemonade-wine taste than what I expected.

Super excited that this place was reopening! Went during the week with a friend. The place is a lot smaller than the old location and was a little loud due to live music in a small space. Not a lot of seating, but it was a weekday so that was not an issue. Waitress came to table pretty quickly and we ordered our dishes and a pitcher of red sangria. Sangria was good, but I doubt it had much alcohol in it. For tapas we ordered meatballs, garlic bread, paella crochets, potatas bravas, fried artichokes and gambas. Food came out pretty quick, but we did not get our gambas. Positive of that was that we were pretty full with the food that came out and they were not on the bill so we let it go. Only other complaint is that after we ordered, we did not see our waitress again nor did she check in, we had to flag her down for our bill. Since this place has not been open long, I am sure they are still working out their kinks, so I will definitely go back. Particularly to try the shrimp.

Can't go wrong with a classic Iberico and the bacon wrapped dates were my favorite. Rabbit was also a star, large portions and delicious though somewhat messy looking in a dish resembling a tomato stew. The lamb was presented beautifully; unfortunately the pomegranate glaze was just too acidic and bitter for the dish to be a winner even though the peas did balance somewhat. Overall we had a good time but without consistency and sporting a hefty price tag I'm not planning to be a regular.

Nothing divey about a hip cocktail or hip deviled eggs -- these are sophisticated modern twists, the exact move wine bars make and dives don't. A chalkboard of specials and weathered seating gesture at the aesthetic; the rest of the room knows. Kendall Roy of restaurants -- comes from privilege, wants badly to be of the people. It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold. Tomato jelly on top is a lot going on, in the wrong way, and the egg disappears under it. These are trying to be hip deviled eggs more than they're trying to be good deviled eggs. Every ambitious kitchen has one plate that tries too hard; this appears to be one. A 5 needs those eggs landing, in the same way the entrees excelled. Regardless, we'll be back.

OpenTable showed a reservation available here, so we finally decided to give it a try--and we're so glad we did. Everything was fantastic. I started with the Green Turtle cocktail, made with Broker's Gin, cucumber, and basil, while my wife enjoyed a glass of Friulano. We opted to share several small plates, which turned out to be the perfect choice. We started with the Brussels sprouts and the goat cheese with bread, both excellent. I also had a cup of the chowder, which may have been my favorite thing of the entire meal. My wife ordered the nightly salad special with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and balsamic dressing, and it was fresh and delicious. We considered ordering the flatbread as well, but by the time we finished everything else, we were completely stuffed. The service was spot-on from start to finish, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and everything was very reasonably priced. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

We had a reservation and were greeted and seated right away. They have a big blackboard where they write the special drinks of the day, so I always have to check that out! They have small plates and entrees there. We almost always do all small plates. The exception is the shrimp and grits because we really like it! This time we did all small plates. The stuffed portabellini mushrooms were a newer menu item and they were SO good! I could have ordered more of those and been fine without anything else! Our next favorite was the oven baked goat cheese. We literally get it every time we come here and it's always delicious. Then we had the Nashville Chicken Sliders. They're good, but nothing super special. Our last item was the short rib street tacos. I'll just say we won't order them again. They weren't bad, but they were lacking in flavor. My cocktail was from the specials list. It was the Bitter Bonfire - made with mezcal - and it was so good! I think my husband had a Manhattan. We will, of course, be back again!

The cocktail menu and RW menu were fabulous, and yet bringing it all to life with effusive knowledge and enthusiasm about the various dishes was our outstanding server, Corinthian. She shared interesting and incredible insight on each offering, making us feel valued and appreciated patrons, advising based on our interests and likes to help us make decisions. Each of us was pleased with our various selections. While the soups were tempting on a cold night, I was delighted with the French-inspired Lyonnaise salad complete with a perfectly prepared soft boiled egg. My panko-encrusted swordfish with burre Blanc sauce was light and tasty. The gooey butter beignets were light on the gooey butter custard-like filling, as promised by our server (and more special than the typical St. Louis dessert), sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with chocolate. The ample dessert (3) provided take home leftovers for delicious breakfast treats. The cocktails I enjoyed included a Japanese Old Fashioned & an Espresso Martini, both very good. Initially upon arrival, an adjacent table of younger women was unusually loud (in a space that doesn't absorb noise well) that I feared would spoil our evening; rather than approach them (tempted) or engage management, I glared a few times at them and it seemed to have resolved. Overall, this was a very enjoyable, comfortable, and satisfying dinner; we would return.

We ate 'em up quickly! The charcuterie board? Ok - where to start? The salami and prosciutto were great. The cheddar cheese was way too basic and (dare I say) a couple pieces were hardening up- yikes! Fresh it was not. The other cheese was unable to be ID'd and was kind of "bread like" - not good. But the bread (crostini)? Oh my goodness- hard as a rock. Not good at all. So we ate up the meat, some of the cheddar - and left most of that funky cheese and that hard bread. The hummus and fig spread was great, though - so no issues there. Hmm. So this was a mixed bag. But the surprise came - partly my fault, I know - I asked for a shot of their most expensive Scotch on the rocks. I should have asked the price - just over $100 for a shot! We didn't know this and only wish the bartender would have asked me to confirm the order by saying "the one I have is over $100/shot - are you sure you want it!" - but that didn't happen, darn it. So we paid up - and I swore never to order nothing but basic Scotch going forward! So - the soups and beers were great - but we suggest staying away from the charcuterie board until the bread and cheese selections are tweaked a bit more!

I've seen this before in other restaurants. I made a 5:45 pm reservations as it was on a Saturday and I wanted to get there before it got too busy. We were seated on the lounge area. I asked the waitress if there was a way we could be seated at a normal table for dining. She then explained that people have eaten dinners on those tables before and that there's no open tables to move us to. Why, yes. I have also eaten off of a picnic blanket while at the park. I am well aware that people can eat off of different types of surfaces. Anyway, we made do though I was annoyed having to lean forward to take a bite out of my steak. The plate was too large to sit on my lap and I didn't want to eat off of my lap anyway. By the way, the proper table by us was empty the whole time from the time we got there, ordered appetizers, and our main entree, ate everything and sat around for 10 more minutes to finish our drinks. The food was excellent! We started with the crab dip which was true to its name. It had crab meat and topped with some crisp bread crumbs, no fillers. For places who try to pass off crab dips, they should take a page off of High Bar's recipe book. My husband had the chicken sandwich and I had the steak for my entree. As usual, I ordered mine medium rare which came properly prepared. I always get nervous when ordering steak at a non-steakhouse but I trusted my gut and they delivered. My husband really enjoyed his chicken sandwich. It had 2 fried chickens stacked atop one another. He took one off and took it home for later. We both had some cocktails. I love their spritz and the spritz options they have. Our waitress was okay. She wasn't overly friendly or attentive but she took our orders and kind of acknowledged our existence when she had to. The people delivering our food and drinks were nicer. We wanted to take our leftovers home and told our waitress this. She dropped off some containers and the check. We left shortly after. I was honestly hoping for a much better experience. At least the food was still really good!

Dessert: The limoncello tiramisu is delightful and fresh. The homemade chocolate truffles are made by Chef's mom and are a must try menu item. Ambiance: Warm and intimate with great music playing in the background. Staff: Ellie was knowledgeable, friendly, and provided excellent recommendations. Jonathan's keen sense of hospitality and operational excellence further enhances the restaurant experience.

The server seemed annoyed with being there, never asked my husband if he wanted a refill, took forever to check on us, and messed up the bill, which I didn't catch until after signing it. I've been to plenty of fine dining restaurants where our server has introduced themselves and asked about the occasion, and this place did none of that. Esca has the service of a fast casual restaurant- zero rapport with the customer. Oh and I was charged a 20% service fee. Super tacky to do that for a table of two at a nice restaurant. Bruschetta was such a small portion and flavorless. The artichokes claimed to have anchovy but my husband said he couldn't taste any, so he essentially got a tiny $20 artichoke as an appetizer. My $16 spritz was so loaded with ice I had maybe three sips of the actual drink. I noticed every other table had bread service but we weren't offered any. Our dinner was finished and I finally asked our server for bread. The best part of my meal was the gelato with olive oil, that's it. I don't think I'll spend the $$ again at this place. It's such a bummer because I had high hopes for a stellar Mediterranean meal.

I particularly like how the menu has illustrations of the cocktails so you know how they are served. Plus everything is seasonal! For food, I give it a 4/5. The appetizers, including the cauliflower, onion rings, and poutine are excellent but the entree menu is limited to mostly sandwiches and I've found the entrees just ok-to-good for the price. It's easy to walk in for lunch but I recommend a reservation for dinner to avoid the chaos!

I'm disappointed that it took me so long to make my way here. They won me over with the tiny dedicated parking lot. At my big age, difficult parking situations are a turn off and I will go home if I can't get reasonable parking. I was able to snag a space in the lot and headed in. The space is a bit dark with rich sage, brass, and terracotta. There are several hanging plants making it an inviting place. The bar has plenty of comfortable seating and cozy tables if you decide to bring some friends. Caleb was our server during our visit. He was an absolute delight. He made excellent cocktail suggestions. He looked after our group without being overly doting. Just a gem of a human. We tried approximately 9 cocktails during our visit. Did I mention we were at brunch! I highly recommend the peach bite and the Side Car. Every cocktail is thoughtfully made and well executed. They offer a small brunch menu along with the regular menu. I usually always get chilaquiles when they are available. But today the ruby trout and grits sounded perfect. This dish was amazing!! The trout was thin with crispy skin. The grits were creamy and delicious. The dish is topped with a house made radish pico and salsa macha. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich that was paired with the crispiest breakfast potatoes I've ever had. The burger and fries are also a good option. The seasoning on the fries is next level. The brunch menu has a sticky toffee roll that is a perfect size for sharing or not. Salty sweet fork tender cinnamon roll. Lastly, the deviled eggs were a group favorite. I am a big fan of Passenger Chili Crisp. If you are unfamiliar please look them up! It's hands down the best chili crisp I've ever had. It's locally made here in STL and can also be found in several dishes at restaurants around town. The eggs were creamy with the right amount of tang from the mustard. The chili crisp made these deviled eggs easily top five best I've ever had! Planning to stop in again soon for happy hour with more friends

However, I will tell you that Eddie turned it around. He was incredible. Sure, normally wait staff will tell you "oh yes great choice" so I asked if he would actually tell us if things were bad. Now, he didnt say anything was bad, but he did say he felt this other dish was better than what a person ordered because it had more flavor and yada yada. A honest man. Love to see that. Japanese Curry = Little spicy, but great flavor. Yum. Wagyu and bacon bao = amazing. Get it. Pork belly boa = a little dry, bummer. Fried shrimp boa = good. Fries = 100/10. Perfectly crispy. Amazing. Also a little thing, but the light on table had three different settings and I just really appreciated that. Treat yourself to this small restaurant tucked away in Clayton and go visit by boy Eddie.

We had reservations but it was so cold we went early praying that they had open seating. We were in luck the bar was open. Inside it was swanky, I liked the aesthetic. if you are looking for a place that's ultra private, this isnt it. but it would be an awesome date night. The bartender was welcoming and open. I was enthralled as they made the cocktails. They answered random questions and helped us picked something for our palate. I had the Paloma (Palo-Ho-HO-Ma) it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! i mean like go just to get one of those. Then i had the sweet chili popcorn tofu. That was also good. Next I had Tom Kha. Refreshing spicy creamy soup. almost licked the bowl. Then i chose three different bao sandwiches. chicken, the pork belly, and the shrimp tempura. All the sandwiches were great, but after all the food i ate i was so full i couldn't appreciate them like they deserved. Now all the food AND the drink was for $40.00 You see I gave them 5 stars. I usually don't do that and this was my first time at the establishment. The food was so good that I started talking to the persons next to me at the bar and looking at their food selection. I will definitely be back . Are you still reading this, why aren't you in the car driving there yet.

It has been awhile since we went to sit at one of the best patios in St. Louis. Well, the…read moreexperience is still great, but not as good as about a year ago. Nonetheless, Sanctuaria still pumped out some great food for us tonight. The vibes on the patio are immaculate. Peaceful, warm, intimate, and completed by artsy fountain ordained in the middle. Our server was great to chat with, although the pace was a bit slow. It seems staffing may be a contributing factor to the slight decline of this St. Louis gem. The interior was completely vacant, but outside was full. While full, not overwhelmingly busy. In any case, we waited about 10 minutes to receive water. Not a huge deal, just not the norm. I have mixed reviews on the drinks. I love old fashioneds, I love mezcal, and I love mezcal old fashioneds. So, naturally, the vape juice seemed like a walk in the park. For me, it lacked balance, and was missing sweetness. As it got diluted it was more palatable. I was just hoping for the basil to really shine through with the mezcal. The cherry me away, and honeysuckle this were both much better. Cherry me away is accurately depicted and executed. A cherry caipirinha that is equally tart as it is sweet. A crusher. Much of the same from honeysuckle this. A drink on the sweeter side with the honeysuckle taking center stage. The peppercorn garnish offers a great flavor contrast to the sweetness of the drink. As for the food, the devil bites are the clear winner. Not too spicy, crispy, and packed with flavor. You've heard of a cheese pull, but these have a pulled pork pull. I won't talk your ear off, just go order them and chew in awe. Everything else was good as well. The pork on the pinchos muronos was well marinated. The smoked paprika aioli was another favorite. Creamy, tangy, and just enough smokiness. Of course, the chicken sliders are always a smash with the sweetness of the Hawaiian rolls drawing out the saltiness of the chicken. The vaca frita was interesting. The steak was crispy which I was not prepared for. Still great, and the chimichurri was warmed which I think really elevated it. The New york strip was also good. Simply seasoned with salt and pepper. A nicely prepared steak. At the price point: a generous helping with good quality. And, the carrots are amazing. Super sweet, buttery, and tender. I would order 5 bowls of them if I could and if my heart could handle it. All in all, a phenomenal date night spot especially on the patio. The present drink program is pretty good, although I think past programs have exceeded this one. And of course, the extensive tapas menu has no misses. Great for happy hours, celebrations, or a last minute date night!
