    PAELLA SUNDAY
    Wajhi K.

I'd like to make this a 3.5 because Bar Moro has excellent service and a nice ambiance but the food just did not deliver. The biggest disappointment was the Sunday paella. One would hope that if you are a Spanish restaurant serving paella one day of the week it would be a proper serving but it was a bowl of marinated rice with 1 shrimp, 1 mussel and 1 clam...the anchovies were very salty (I know they're supposed to be) and the pequillo peppers were meh. The bread was fantastic, great wine selection and again very friendly service but just a B- for the food which is all I really care about.

This place is such a vibe! The lighting provides a moody atmosphere which pairs well with such sophisticated tapas. This is a great spot for a small group, though I wouldn't recommend taking too many people if everyone wants to be able to try a little bit of everything. The zucchini and the carrots were the stars of the show, but we loved all the dishes we tried. The server was helpful in crafting our order and pointing us in the right direction. Definitely recommend checking out this chic spot for your next girl dinner / team outing / date night!

I finally made it to Bar Moro for a weekend date night. The environment is dark and intimate with warm hospitality from the staff. Everything is small plates meant to share so we ordered a variety of bites. My favorite was a spread and I don't recall what this one was called because I go to so many Ben Poremba restaurants and I eat some kind of spread at all of them because they're incredible! I will definitely be back for some more seasonal items as the menu changes so I can experience it all over again.

A wonderful surprise on our trip to Saint Louis. This restaurant was a delight in all ways--food, service and ambiance. Great Spanish influences with a little twists, a solid bar to back the meal with both cocktails, great vermouth and European wines that pair perfectly. My only frustration--an inability to eat more of the options they had.

Sometimes the best dining experiences happen on a whim, and that was exactly the case with my visit to Bar Moro this past Friday night. With a rare opening in my schedule and a craving for something new, I made a same-day reservation. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. We were seated immediately, offered water, and given a helpful overview of the menu by the server behind the bar. The menu is divided into small and large plates, with a focus on sharing. Following the server's recommendation, we ordered four small plates (carrots, anchovies, meatballs, peppers) and one large plate (roasted rabbit), pacing ourselves throughout the meal. We came in quite hungry, and this was more than enough food for two. Every dish built on the previous, which made for a great tasting experience. Just when we thought we were done, we made room for the soufflé de queso, which was the perfect ending. A complimentary taste of dessert wine paired with it was a thoughtful touch that elevated the experience. Overall, I was thoroughly happy with the food, service, and ambiance at Bar Moro.

The Dark and moody atmosphere was perfect here. The art, lighting and smaller details made for an elevated night out. We had a pitcher of the sangria and it was a great amount for three people. For small plates we ordered the bacon wrapped dates, salt cod croquettes, toasted carrot salad and some mussels in white wine from there tinned fish selections. I would recommend all four of those dishes over and over again. Flavors were complex and well layered through out every dish. Everything was fresh and perfect for sharing. This is a smaller restaurant but definitely worth checking out!

I had such an incredible dining experience here. When you look at the menu, you might not think "this is a must try", but it really is! The ambiance is fun, moody, and sexy. The service was amazing and I had the best halibut of my life! I will definitely be back! Everything was delicious from the pan con tomato, the canned fish, the shisito peppers, but the halibut won the show. I cant wait to come back!

Okay, first of all the vibes are insane. Everywhere has the dimly lit thing going on nowadays which I love, but Bar Moro is truly distinguished with what they've accomplished. It is rustic, teetering on gothic. Amazing vibes for a nice little date night. Insanely unique with furs draped over chairs, garnishes out; and a semi open kitchen concept. The service was solid. We just popped in for 1 drink so we did not get the full experience, but some of their bites looked unreal. Our drinks were solid. I rolled with a house martini and my friend got a spanish sour. They were overall good; but not my favorite. The martini is a dirty martini riff which isnt exactly my speed but conceptually well executed by the bar team. Same with the spanish sour; it had great flavor, just a little unbalanced for me. Once more, still solid drinks just not in the elite category. Would love to back for some more drinks just to enjoy the vibes. Such a dope spot. I wish the weather was warmed for our visit because the patio seating setup is beautiful!

I made a reservation for 7p on a Saturday at the bar and was seated promptly on arrival. The restaurant is tiny, borderline cramped, but makes up for it with a lot of cool dark academia-esque ambiance (black walls, well-used tapered candles) mixed in with unmistakably Spanish influence (bunches of dried peppers hanging, an Iberian pork leg on the counter). I knew when I arrived that I wanted to try as much tinned fish and sherry as possible, but I wasn't prepared for an actual LIST of tinned fish selections to be presented to me! They had everything from fatty tuna to barnacles to octopus on the list, I had to make a difficult decision. I opted for the mussels, which were delicious on the house bread with their bright olive oil and a habañero hot sauce. I also had half a dozen oysters, which were presented beautifully on a bowl of ice with lemon wedges. I opted for a glass of fino sherry to go with the seafood, which my lovely bartender said was an excellent pairing (after also letting me sample some others--muchas gracias!), and we were off to the races. As a side note, I highly recommend doing some research about sherry before you go if you're planning on venturing through that part of the menu and you've never had sherry before. How sherry is made is fascinating and there is an extraordinary variation in dryness or sweetness depending on the type you get. As for the food, every bite was exceptional. I graduated to an amontadillo sherry for my next selections, the baccalà and piquillo peppers. Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish those dishes in the restaurant, but I did have them packed to go and finished them at home--delicious. The salt cod is shredded into mashed potatoes and served with buttery well-toasted croûtes--a riot of salty, umami, soft, and crunch. And the piquillo peppers are laid out on the plate with dots of olive tapenade, anchovies, wedges of goat cheese, and oil--salty and tangy complimented by the sweetness of the peppers, umami from the anchovies. My only regret is that I couldn't eat more. I was looking forward to having an oloroso sherry with the pan con tomate "deluxe", which is served with boquerones. Definitely coming back for it, and likely bringing friends.

Bar Moro is getting 5 stars for the consistent product I receive whenever I try any of their food items. New dishes, repeat dishes, they are always hitting the mark. I love sitting at the bar because I get to watch the chefs in action, but it does get warm on occasion (you're next to an oven, this should be obvious ) but maybe wear layers to have the best experience! The menu does change seasonly and they have GREAT specials. I was here last night and plan on making an appearance again on Friday. Last night's noms were: the bacon wrapped dates, the seasonalchicken dish, and a must have dessert: burnt cheesecake. (This is served warm and it's delightful.) They also have an amazing vermut selection and the mancino sakura is a MUST. It's like spring in a cup. I've had multiple dishes here over the past few months, rabbit, lamb, apps, tinned fish. It NEVER disappoints and the staff are always so friendly and fun to chat with. Couple tips: 1. Share or plan on taking food home as leftovers. Order from multiple sections of the menu and split things. This is the place you want to try more of. 2. Dress in layers if you plan on sitting at the bar, like I said, sometimes it gets warm but it does not make for a negative experience in anyway. Just plan on it. 3. Make Reservations. Especially on a weekend.

My current obsession. The bar is the best seat in the house, watching the chefs work is like front row tickets to a culinary magic show. The menu? A masterpiece. The wine list? A flex. Definitely book ahead, but trust me, you're in for something special!

Bar Moro was a pretty nice experience. The place is tucked between other restaurants on Wydown and was somewhat small but our dining experience was wonderful in a big way. We had reservations on a Friday night. The place does get busy so if you're planning on coming in during a busier evening, making a reservation would ensure you can get in. We ordered some of the salt cod croquetas which were fine. The grilled piquillo peppers though were quite wonderful with the anchovies. Probably my favorite of the 2 small plates we ordered. My husband ordered the Spanish omelet. He liked it, he said it was different. I had the fish which was delicious. My entrée was quite large so I ended up taking the rest home for the next day. Service was fine. The food came fairly quickly and our server came by to check on us occasionally. I would come back here again and try their other offerings.

From the start, our Host was super friendly, welcoming and answered all your questions expertly. The menu is extensive and we had A LOT of food. One needs to look it over online first to get an idea what you'll have. We shared most of it between four of us. Highlights were the Questo de Cabra, which was Baked Goat Cheese in one of the tastiest thick and rich mariana style tomato sauces I've had with thin crusty Garlic Bread Pieces lightly toasted to perfection. The Albondigas, Pork and Beef Meatballs were absolutely delicious. A huge pile of Calamares Fritos, Fried Calamari was done perfectly crisp. It came with an aioli sauce, but we dipped them in the tomato sauce that came with the Goat Cheese. Excellent. A wonderful and oh so tasty Paella de Carne, Meat Paella was the main dish and it was as good as I've had in Spain if not better. For dessert, the Tres Leches, Spanish Milk Cake was exquisite and hard to describe outside of heaven on a plate. Nothing divey about a hip cocktail or hip deviled eggs -- these are sophisticated modern twists, the exact move wine bars make and dives don't. A chalkboard of specials and weathered seating gesture at the aesthetic; the rest of the room knows. Kendall Roy of restaurants -- comes from privilege, wants badly to be of the people. It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold. Tomato jelly on top is a lot going on, in the wrong way, and the egg disappears under it. These are trying to be hip deviled eggs more than they're trying to be good deviled eggs. Every ambitious kitchen has one plate that tries too hard; this appears to be one. A 5 needs those eggs landing, in the same way the entrees excelled. Regardless, we'll be back.

We…read morewere actually around the corner at a brewery that was packed with small children and decided to look for a quieter spot where we could enjoy a cocktail and dinner. OpenTable showed a reservation available here, so we finally decided to give it a try--and we're so glad we did. Everything was fantastic. I started with the Green Turtle cocktail, made with Broker's Gin, cucumber, and basil, while my wife enjoyed a glass of Friulano. We opted to share several small plates, which turned out to be the perfect choice. We started with the Brussels sprouts and the goat cheese with bread, both excellent. I also had a cup of the chowder, which may have been my favorite thing of the entire meal. My wife ordered the nightly salad special with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and balsamic dressing, and it was fresh and delicious. We considered ordering the flatbread as well, but by the time we finished everything else, we were completely stuffed. The service was spot-on from start to finish, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and everything was very reasonably priced. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

We have never had a bad meal here! We went a week or so ago and realized we've been coming here…read moresince shortly after they opened. We're not regulars by any stretch of the imagination, but we've been here a number of times over the years. Sometimes it's just my husband and me, sometimes family members join us, and we've brought friends here as well. Nobody has ever not been happy they came here! We had a reservation and were greeted and seated right away. They have a big blackboard where they write the special drinks of the day, so I always have to check that out! They have small plates and entrees there. We almost always do all small plates. The exception is the shrimp and grits because we really like it! This time we did all small plates. The stuffed portabellini mushrooms were a newer menu item and they were SO good! I could have ordered more of those and been fine without anything else! Our next favorite was the oven baked goat cheese. We literally get it every time we come here and it's always delicious. Then we had the Nashville Chicken Sliders. They're good, but nothing super special. Our last item was the short rib street tacos. I'll just say we won't order them again. They weren't bad, but they were lacking in flavor. My cocktail was from the specials list. It was the Bitter Bonfire - made with mezcal - and it was so good! I think my husband had a Manhattan. We will, of course, be back again!

We went on a Sunday around 5 pm and there were already a couple other tables there, so I can imagine it fills up quickly at normal dinner times. I would probably make a reservation if planning to go at a typical hour. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and really on top of things. We had the patatas bravas, which were good, and the croquetas de bacalao. The croquetas were a little runny for my taste. I usually prefer them a bit meatier, but they were still enjoyable. We also shared a cheese plate, which was a nice portion for a snack with wine. The wines we tried were very good. Overall, this feels like a great spot to stop for a couple glasses of wine and some snacks between plans. I could also see coming back and building a full meal by ordering a few different plates. I would definitely return.

We got the papas bravas and cheese plate off the happy hour menu plus the croquets de bacalao off the regular menu. Generally it's a small menu of tapas plus wines and cocktails but it's well curated. We enjoyed both the red and white featured wines both seemed very high quality and was fun to try something new. The food was delicious and happy hour prices were very reasonable. Service was prompt and our server was very knowledgeable about all the wines. You for sure need a reservation here unless you come at 4pm as it's quite an intimate space, I believe about 6 tables. They have a tasting menu for 2 or 4 that comes with several small plates and an optional drink pairing (2 wines and 2 cocktails). For two the food was only $60. Would love to come back and try that tasting menu as it sounds fun. The small plates they offer could definitely be made into a full meal if one was hungry enough.

I've tried the churrasco nica, pollo frito, and chancho asado, and every single dish has been beyond spectacular. I'm from Los Angeles, and people told me I'd have a hard time finding great food out here, but Fritanga proves them wrong. It's exactly what you want from a small, family-owned restaurant: excellent service, flavorful food, affordable prices (steak dinner + sides for under 20$ is a steal), a fun atmosphere, and genuinely friendly staff. I even planned a 17-person celebration dinner here (with some of those people from LA) and got to work directly with Orlando, the owner. He was responsive, welcoming, and went out of his way to make the night special, even celebrating with us. Everyone loved it. I'll be leaving St. Louis soon for my career, which makes this a bittersweet review to write. But I hope it encourages more people to check this place out, Fritanga is something special.
