Came here with my Elite friend on a weekday for dinner. Of course I read the reviews from my fellow Elites first to get the lowdown before visiting ; ) The place is large. Has indoor and outdoor seating, a bar to the back, and tvs throughout. Simple decoration with open spacing with bright lighting. Apparently the restaurant has been featured on Hulu. Service- was easy, came without a resy, immediately seated. Place was not busy at all. Our server Annabelle was good. My only real complaint she forgot to bring us silverware when our entrees came out. But no worries, I just snagged some off the table next to us that already had a place setting, lol. Food- we started off with chips/salsa. Then I went with the shrimp enchilada plate $18.50. My friend went with the beef enchilada plate. I didn't plan to eat the entire plate, but somehow it happened very easily, lol. All of the typical Texy-Mexy flavor profiles. We both enjoyed. Drink- only because it was happy hour, and had a great price point, I got the house Rita $5, great price. My friend got the skinny Rita. Enjoyed my time here. My meal was $25.43 minus tip. I drive by this location all the time and finally got to check it out the other evening with one of my Yelp besties. There's plenty of parking. It was night time and a little chilly but they have a small patio for nice weather days. The ambiance was festive and filled with holiday cheer. The restaurant was clean and comfy. Our waitress Annabelle was super sweet, knowledgeable about the menu and attentive to our needs. I had the Tex-mex beef enchiladas and a skinny margarita and my pal let me try her shrimp enchiladas. They also served us complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is a medium-ish mild, not at all spicy but not at all ketchuppy or as if it had zero spice heat. It was a good salsa for most if not, all palates. Both enchiladas were delish and they give you plenty of food. Mine were even yummy cold. They got cold from me talking so much to my friend. The refried beans and rice were both perfect. It's nice to have a quality sit-down Tex-mex restaurant nearby. I'll definitely be stopping by for future visits. I was really excited when Barcenas opened on my side of Pearland. We don't have great Mexican options, and everyone raved about it. I wanted to like it, but every time I've been, it's just been ok in every aspect. I've been 5 times now, and ordered different items each time, hoping that it was just what I ordered, but have never been impressed. The service has just been ok, the sauces aren't great, the chips aren't great, and they use cheap American cheese on a lot of dishes. I will say their salsas are good and fresh, they use fresh spinach in their spinach enchiladas(although the sauce on them doesn't pair at all), and their breakfast tacos are good (although very small for the price). This was my first time out. The gal has been to a couple of their locations, and came home with a specific demand of tacos and margaritas on a Wednesday. And here we are. First off, I didn't even know they were here. The location is not bad for me at all. It's a brand new looking facility, and a strip with a few other things in there that I didn't know existed either and we'll have to go back and check out. Walking in. There was no wait, and we got in just before. Happy hour ended and we're able to enjoy our margaritas on a discount. Our wait staff was Benji. This guy knew his menu, cuz I and the guy that would ask questions and compare different things. And he was also very courteous and efficient. He checked on us frequently to make sure everything was taken care of. She got the birria tacos. The consummé was excellent! I was actually dipping my own tortillas in there as well. I ordered the Bistec Ranchero. It was a lot more food than anticipated, and very flavorful. I actually their charro beans very much. Seems an isolates issue. They have a plethora of options for enchiladas and they are all good. It is nice that they have dishes with varying levels of spice for different palettes. Over the years of following a local foodie group out of the Clear Lake area, Barcenas is mentioned quite a bit for being a staple of the community. The family owned business has been serving the southside for 30 something years. They must be doing something right. I had to check them out when they hit the Pearland scene. They took over a large space in a shopping strip off Pearland Parkway on the east side of Pearland. There is plenty of parking. The space inside is large and spacious with lots of seating and a full bar as well. Derek was our waiter extraordinaire who was super friendly and very helpful. He set us up with a couple of salsas and said they got a green sauce they could bring out too. It was supposed to be spicy, but the way my spice level is set up, it was mild to me. He then had the kitchen whip up a small batch of salsa that did pack some heat flavor. On top of him going out of his way to satisfy my craving, the staff in general was all smiles and worked well as a team. As far as food goes, they got something for everyone here. The menu is extensive. They have apps, salads, soups, tacos, quesos, fajitas, enchiladas, chalupas, burritos and all kind of specialty dishes. Since it was my first time here, I went with one of my favorite Tex-Mex dishes. I ordered the Chimichanga with fajita beef. The food came out not too long after. The chimichanga looked small at first, but it was filled with chopped beef fajitas. The fajita itself was ok, it could have used a little more seasoning. They serve it with a side of chile con queso that was tasty topping as well as a nice dip for my chips. The side of rice and charro beans hit the spot too. My dining companion enjoyed her dish of tacos al carbon as well. Overall, it was good to finally check this place out. I could not even leave the establishment, let alone finish my plate before writing this review. I walked into the restaurant and was greeted by friendly hard working staff and a nice ambiance of music, aesthetics, and good vibes. The chips and salsa provided a fresh start to the meal. They did not weigh me down as many Tex-Mex establishments can. I contemplated over the never ending menu which provided options from nacho specialties to niche enchiladas recipes. I settled on the latter. Immediately upon receiving the Barbocoa enchiladas with the spicy green sauce and a cheesy friend puff, it did not disappoint. The portions are huge, but most importantly this food is nowhere near bland. I typically find that many Mexican establishments will not season their food and depend on salsas to provide flavor. Barcenas is my go to for great enchiladas with two eggs, Amazing combination!!! Now they have added fried chicharrones with guacamole or cheese. They are still crackling when they get to the table. I tried a new entree tonight: the Rib Eye Tacos, they were seasoned, tender and served in a warm tortilla with grilled onions, pico and guacamole. Celebrated my birthday dinner here with a good friend and we both had a good time. I found out about this place through a community page on Facebook focusing on local eats within the community. We arrived around 7pm and most of the tables were occupied even at the bar area. The service was excellent. They attended to us quite regularly but not too much where we felt bothered. The restaurant itself felt cozy and spacious and it was clean. We started off with some margaritas which is always enjoyable that I had to get a second one. As far as food, I took on the Parrillada "Los Dos Hermanos" which consisted of chicken, shrimp, and beef fajitas with grilled onions. It came with a side of Mexican rice and your choice of beans the way its cooked as well as tortillas. The fajitas were great, I enjoyed the beef and the shrimp, however, the chicken fajitas were dry and could've been seasoned better in my opinion. To end our experience, they sang me a song and got me a dessert to finish it off. I liked this place that I brought my family here days later. After hearing about this place from others and from people on Facebook groups, you know I had to stop by and give them a try. Very nice ambiance as they have way more room than most Mexican establishments in the area, and the greeters were friendly. As always, you start with some chips and salsa of which both had great flavor, but the salsa was cold AF like they had it chilling in a freezer. Who doesn't love warm salsa just before their main course? I ordered carne guisada expecting the worse because no one in the Houston area makes it like Grandma used, but I digress. It had very tasty and great flavor, but I'm not a fan of the "red" sauce.....I'm ready to spoon up the brown goodness of my youth. The rice was definitely one of the more decent ones in the area, but the charro beans had no flavor at all. Also, not sure if sausage in the charro beans is a Houston thing, but its just not my cup of frijoles! LOL And we saved the mediocre for last.....the tortillas would probably land somewhere on the a 3 out of 10 range for my taste because they were almost see through and I could literally taste the machine on which they were cooked. all in all, not sure I'd come back to give them another chance. read more

I had Enchiladas Tex Mex, 3 very delicious enchiladas with double rice for me. My friend had Chicken Tacos Al Carbon with rice, beans, guacamole and pico. We enjoyed every bite. We had leftovers for another meal. The restaurant was very busy but the service staff worked hard to make sure we had everything we needed. The first time we went here it was amazing! The service was excellent, the restaurant was clean, it wasn't too loud even though it was busy. We were so excited to finally have a great restaurant by the house. The second time we invited our in laws to come and it was consistently good. Then I ordered the breakfast tacos one morning. I was shocked at how bad they were. They were very greasy and had no flavor. That was disappointing but thought maybe it was a bad day. We went again for lunch and the enchiladas were inedible. I've had frozen enchilada dinners that are better. We were shocked at how quickly the quality took a turn. We decided to try one more time thinking maybe again it was an off day. Nope. It's a shame. We gave our name for the waiting list and the young man at the counter didn't write our name down so when we went to check our place in line they young lady took care of us because we didn't have a place in line. We ordered margaritas and my husbands didn't come until after we were done eating literally the to go boxes were on the table already when he got it. Decided to try this place on a Saturday. We loved it and went back the next day! LOL. Awesome customer service. Awesome people working. Today we arrived at 5:45 , 2,meals and 2 kids meals with 1 Margarita, water for the adults and 2 kids drinka. Our bill was $100.00. My Barbacoa enchiladas were luke warm -not steaming hot or freshly made. My grandson didn't like the lemonade so we asked to replace it for a soda and were charged for a 3rd kids drink. Happy hour prices are now only Mon -Wed. Not everyday as they had been. Salsa was good but would be soooo much better if served warm not cold. A little disappointed with Barcenas. Finally a Barcenas right down the road. The Pearland location was such a delight. Now this felt like going out to eat. Not only did we get greeted, seated, and asked what we'd like to drink the Manager came to the table and spoke to us. The waiter and bus boy were both professional. Our food was fresh and hot. The whole team was smiles. At the end they boxed up our plates and we were thanked and asked to come back. As we walked out I turned to say thank you and the restaurant lighting, table placements bar and kitchen was clean and open.
