Thumbs DOWN Bardog!! We ordered two orders of the 3 saloon sliders and were overcharged with no offer of compensation. The two menus posted on bardog . com show an order of 3 saloon sliders to be $7.99, however, when the order arrived I was told they were charged as $9.99 each to my credit card. When I spoke to the manager, he said he already knew about this (yet failed to inform me when I called in the order) and that they would NOT refund any of the amount to honor the pricing on their online menus. Was in Memphis over Thanksgiving and it was open on the day of. Seems like a fun place, blend of sports, singles and rustic/trendy. Enjoyed their turkey dinner which was unpretentious and homemade-tasting (in a good way). Server was very friendly. Bardog likes to be known for their food. I'll get to that. Their service is outstanding. You walk in the bar and the bartender is already looking your way. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Bardog quickly became THE neighborhood bar for downtown Memphis. It's usually always packed on the weekends. Smoking upstairs, but not down. Good liquor selection, however they don't serve Red Bull. PBR on tap for $2.5 (mmm) all the time, rotating selection otherwise. In terms of food, Bardog is outstanding. The aptly named Amazing Island Club is one of the best sandwiches in the city. I enjoy Bardog's Deluxe Grilled Cheese late night. Their fries are outstanding, sprinkled with salt and sugar. They also tend to have great daily specials as well. Her attitude is freakishly pleasant and a welcoming sight for everyone in need of stout drink before noon! Everytime we eat there whether it be in the restaurant or delivery, it's amazing! I had the beer cheese soup and it was really good. I generally like to eat in the restaurant for the really cool vibe and the service, but the food is so good, we just have a hankering to get it delivered! By far the best bar in Memphis. The food and beer are awesome. The owner Aldo is a great guy and welcomed us with open arms 7 yrs ago when our best friend was in the med ICU and did not make it. The folks there became our family during the 10 days we hung in hope. Melissa and James are the best bartender duo in the WORLD, and I've been to 34 countries and lived in 7!!! This is one of the better places to eat in downtown Memphis. It's not pretentious like many of the newer places and you'll feel at home regardless of whether you're wearing a suit or shorts. The menu is a little sparse, but having eaten almost everything on that menu I can say that I've never been disappointed. From something as simple as a grilled cheese with tomato bisque to the seafood stew, everything is fresh and prepared perfectly. Many of the girls working there are also associated with the Memphis Roller derby and they're all very nice and give the place an authentically hip vibe. There is smoking allowed upstairs (even cigars) but you can go downstairs for a little more intimate surroundings. The jukebox has a very eclectic mix and is usually free. Just walk up and punch in your favorites. Several different beers on tap and for us adult drinkers there is a fully stocked bar with several selections of scotch and bourbon. read more

You wouldn't think it, but I had a great seared ahi tuna salad yesterday. I was impressed. I'm pretty big into eating healthy and sticking with non-fried food, and that seems to be all that's available in a bar. Some girls brought me there for a quick lunch and I was quite afraid of the menu, but realized quickly that they had a lot more to choose from. I hated this bar the first time I came in. Oh how wrong I was. The only bar in Memphis that you can have an alcoholic revival at. This place smells like hopes and dreams. The healthcare night staff orders breakfast shots at 8 in The Morning; breakfast shots are Jamesons with maple (butterscotch liqueur), orange juice in a separate glass with a few pieces of bacon, ordained to be taken in that order. I just played Croce, Passion Pit, Jackie Wilson, Supertramp, and Rod Stewart on the juke box. Brittany will kill yr hangover with sarcastic dimples that will absolutely melt you. Wait, some Ting Tings and Karen O just came on. Hold on while I take these shots with the morning crew. Ok. I'm back. The menu for breakfast leans towards hangover cures; John's dinner specials kill it like bar food you've never ever had. I'm sending the pictures to accompany; way easier. I'm drunk. I first stumbled into Bardog alone this summer, while my husband was in bed, sleeping off some adult beverages. This was July. Beale Street, this time around, was a disappointment- a string of commercial huckster crap. So, walked in late and tipsy from our nearby hotel and was promptly offered roofies by some fine tourists. I had to refuse with my combat boots down on the ground, then ordered carry-out. A fine older goth-fellow kept the wolves at bay. The food rocked We went back for lunch and were awarded golden free PBR nickels. We shall return!!! read more

This would have been a four star review, because the food and location were great, but our experience with the service and manager was abysmal. We came for a late lunch and drinks, so though the service was unexpectedly slow for such a sparsely filled tavern, we didn't mind because we were there to hang out. After asking for another round of drinks twice, and waiting over a half an hour for service, the manager came over and told us he was giving us a round on the house (which took another ten minutes to show up). We weren't that concerned in the first place, and thought this was a nice gesture on his part. So fast forward to an hour later (and still no more service) we're trying to get our bill, and can't flag anyone down. Finally we get a new waitress to get our bill, and when it comes it has been split up all wrong. Everyone has been charged the wrong amount, and one of the beers he said was on the house shows up on the bill. At this point we were so fed up with the slow service that we just decided to fix it ourselves and pay for the extra beer. Everyone puts down enough cash to cover their portion, except for one friend who put down a card. A few minutes after the waitress takes the cash, the manager comes over with a big attitude. He tells us we are $7 short (we actually weren't) and then proceeds to lecture us about how difficult it is nowadays to have to split checks and that everyone pays cards now not cash which makes it harder (which was totally irrelevant as only one of us was paying by card) and goes on and on about how his job is hard. We try to explain how it got a little difficult because the check was so inaccurate, but that we can just put in $7 more dollars (anything to make his monologue end) but he seems to get emotional, and just takes $30 and tells us to forget the rest, and walks off in a huff, and says my friend's card won't be charged. We walk back up to the bar, pay the full amount in cash because we didn't feel it was fair to not pay despite the service, and attempted to get the card back, which took another ten minutes. Finally we got to leave. To top it off, the next day my friend checked her account, and the jerk had charged her card anyways, which means we overpaid by $30. The only reason it gets two stars is that the food was very good. The service was the worst I have ever experienced, and that includes a trip I took to France. read more

I used to love Bardog but unfortunately the food has gotten more and more inconsistent. My most recent visit this week was enough for me to want to let them know so hopefully somebody will fix it. I ordered the mother clucker and a cup of the daily soup. The bartender brought my soup out first, and then when my sandwich came I got fries that I didn't order. The guy just told me to keep them, and I was fine with that since my soup was so salty I barely ate it. But the fries were mushy and not that hot, so I didn't eat many of them either. The sandwich was not as good as it usually is, I eat it often enough to know. The chicken was really tough and dry, and one side of the bread was extra toasted and the other side barely toasted at all. The bartender was pretty busy with other customers, so I just ate what I could and said something when she came back around. Don't bother trying to talk to the manager, who brought me my sandwich in the first place (he's the guy in jeans and a novelty tee that was sitting at the bar on his phone) I literally thought he was a delivery guy or food runner or something, but when the bartender said she would let the manager know about my food she was talking to him. He didn't really seem too worried about it and didn't even say anything to the kitchen and never came over and said anything to me, so maybe he wasn't the manager? It was hard to tell really. He went back to his phone and she came back and discounted my food, which was nice. The good thing about this place is that the service is always consistent, both upstairs and downstairs has a great friendly staff. Hopefully they get their kitchen sorted out and start serving good food again. I would really like to keep eating here. read more

Met some war buddies down in Memphis for the New Year and our concierge directed us to Bardog our first night there. Great place. Even with the crush of New Year's Eve customers, the staff was just about as friendly as I could've imagined. Food was good, too, both drinking or not; I figure that's a good endorsement. Atmosphere was surprisingly decent. I'd say it had a favorable ratio of decent folks to pretentious douche canoes, which is really saying something. I did hear some people complaining about the cigarette smoke, though. Now, I'm not a smoker, but I figure if someone doesn't like the smoke, they should just hold their breath while they're there, problem solved. Someone'll be sure to catch him/her when they turn blue and pass out; like I said, friendly staff. I'll be back here next time I'm in Memphis. read more

If you like for your drinks and food with a side of smoke, knock yourself out at this local watering hole. And if the smoke doesn't turn you off, the service probably will. The staff is more interested in chatting with friends than serving customers. We could excuse the slow service (even though the bar wasn't busy), but the smoke kept us from ordering more than one drink and getting the heck out of there. read more

Great late night bar food. Had the beef sliders which is what they're kinda known for. Shoestring french fries were hot and crispy and the burgers were juicy with great flavor. At $9.99, a great value for or a local restaurant compared to those found in chain restaurants. The bar is two levels. The Street level is smoking. The basement is non-smoking. Good atmosphere and daily specials on beer and food. Definitely would go there again. read more

Stopped into this place because it was located close to our hotel. Ended up eating and/or drinking there 5 nights in a row. The food was excellent and the bartenders were a lot of fun. The chef/owner came out to ask our opinion of the food then bought us a round. My territory is North America, and this place was exactly what I look for when I'm out of town.
