it has diner/restaurant burgers. that seems the only redeeming quality. i ordered it medium, it was rare. it was alright, with quality lettuce. the tomato was just one thick cut piece with just the tip of the bottom sliced off. i wouldn't mind if they took more off and just gave me a better slice of tomato. fries were crisp, and nicely thin. well cooked. only problem is they're coated in a sweet seasoning that takes away from their goodness. read more

The quest to try the all highly touted burgers in town led me here to Bare Back. A nice little beach bar with tv's showing surf movies. An outdoor patio occupies the side of the building. I sat at the bar and checked the beer selection. A small but local offering of a few draught beers. Also some interesting mixed drink choices. I also noticed the sign for a Man v. Food type eating challenge along with the pictures of the daring souls who completed it. I hope Adam Richmond finds his way here. I was promptly greeted and received my Ballast Point Pale Ale right away. I took a moment to check out the menu. There are lots of burger options with varying sizes and toppings. There are also several chicken sandwiches and I believe a lamb burger, it is a New Zealand themed organic place after all. As previously stated I was there to try the regular beef burger. I ordered a Queenstown Fav with American Cheese, cooked medium. I believe the signifigance of this paticular burger is their special sauce and an aoili. I chose onion rings to accompany my burger. The burger came right after my first beer on a rectangular wooden serving dish. These fancy platters sure look nice but don't offer much in the way of drip catching that is usually necessary for a messy burger, but hey what are you gonna do. People want their food to look pretty these days even if it is a working class meal such as the burger. The bun was a darker wheat looking homemade job covering what loooked like a medium sized burger cut in half. It had the usual lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions. The special sauce on the top bun and I believe the aoili on the bottom. It was cooked perfect medium with a bit of pink in the middle. A large portoin of onion rings rode alongsid of it. The burger tasted pretty good. If I was somewhere far off and happened upon it I would say it hit the spot but being in the place and time we are in now it was just ok. Not real flavorful. I don't even think it was from lack of seasoning or condiment. More from a lower fat content maybe related to it's organic origins. I don't know. It just did not stand up to it's competition, but then again not many do. A good place to go if you are right there and need some food and beer but if you have the time and wherewithal and really want a burger go to another little place up the road a piece. The onion rings were, I thought I would never use this word, meh. The service was attentive, friendly and efficient excepting the bartender spraying of windex ON the bar instead of his rag. It was before my food arrived but I watched a fine mist settle on a few unsuspecting patrons dishes. Rule number one for bussing tables. Oh well. read more

I'll start by saying this. Food was good. Service was as well. Thats the only reason this place gets 2 stars. The "Tuesday Special" (free burger with a pitcher) is BS!!!! Sounded like a good deal, but the pitcher was $20.00. End result 2 burgers, fries and one pitcher --repeat--one pitcher---50 bucks with tip. If I want to get jacked, I'll let you know. Excellent food, better service! We were there on a weekday at lunchtime but had a great experience.

I have never been to San Diego before and I wanted to try some great food. After searching around I landed at Bare Back Grille. Right as I entered the building I was greeted by the hosted along with a smile. Right away I knew it was going to be a friendly atmosphere, which it was! I ended getting the Steak Caesar Salad and I never been so happy before over a salad. Keenan the manager asked how everything was and I let him know very excellent. He then gave me insight on how the place was established and intrigued me to come back when I visit again. I highly recommend this place for being clean, friendly and great food! read more

The Moscow mules are awesome, they have a great beer selection, and the staff has always been very friendly and done a great job. On first glance, I was expecting pretty standard bar-type food. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much this place surpassed my expectations. I had a teriyaki chicken sandwich with pineapple and some sweet potato fries, and both were absolutely delicious. The chicken nuggets that we ordered were really questionable. They tasted like fish fingers and store bought lowest quality frozen chicken nuggets- very surprising for a restaurant that makes such great burgers. Went here after a day on the beach with multiple friends and everyone tried each other's food. I don't think I had a single bad bite. The bare lil lamb was absolutely incredible, and the pot pie made me feel at home in the best way. This was our first time to Bare Back. We have tried to go a few other times, but they were always so crowded, so we went somewhere else. Overall I thought the place was very good. I got a burger (with bacon and avocado) and it was very tasty. My daughter got chicken and my wife got calamari. The burger was the highlight. Service was excellent and we will return! read more

My husbands hamburger the Queennstown fave was quite good but for $10.90 I would expect a side of fries rather than a smattering of chips. My 3 star rating was based on a couple of other factors: 1) my tempura calamari were not tempura battered rather a breaded coating 2) my ice tea was not brewed but instant, quite pricey @ $3.00 and no refills offered (nor for my husbands's soda). My husband and I truly appreciated the volume and the choice of music.Most restaurants like this play the music so loud that you can't enjoy a conversation while dining.We thought that the Guajo Loco was tasty and had a great heat.The Pollo Parmesano was disappointing.Both were the same price of $12.9.For that we expected more than the burgers (which were not large,) three small pickle slices and some potato chips.When we returned home, we both enjoyed a large salad to satisfy our hunger.Most of us work very hard to ear our pay.Paying these prices for so little food is not a good value and does not leave me satisfied or content. read more

As is tradition, I wanted to eat a good burger for my birthday. Today I went to Bare Back Grill for the first time and I can say I was not disappointed. I ordered the average joe medium rare and got just that. The meat was juicy and full of flavor, which is what most burgers lack.
