We used to come here regularly about 15-18 years ago and always loved the Bare Lil Lamb burger (currently $25). Husband and I shared that and our son got the Wagyu Smash, which he said was the best burger in his life! Burgers and sandwiches come with shoestring fries and let me tell you they are fantastically crisp and served with three different sauces (ketchup, wasabi mayo and this other bbq type sauce that was my favorite). They have a full bar here and the cocktails sounded great. I opted for the mimosa (which was on special for only $2!!) and my husband got a Kona beer that he enjoyed. Our server (I'll have to ask my son what her name was and update this review) was fantastic... very sweet, efficient and genuine. We were in Pacific Beach last weekend and just happened to walk by this spot when we were on our way to a different restaurant for dinner. Their burgers smelled so good from the street that we decided to try Bare Back Grill instead, and we were not disappointed! The soft pretzel and shrimp skewers were both delicious starters. The cocktails were great! My husband ordered the Wagyu Smash Burger while I got the Maui Waui Wagyu Burger. Both were delicious! We loved their matchstick fries and flight of dipping sauces they provided. We ended going back on the second day for cocktails and Jell-O shots before our concert. We just got back a few months ago from a trip to New Zealand and have been missing NZ food and this spot definitely reminded us of our time there. Definitely worth a visit! On hike & needed a bit of food mid-way so stopped by for basic simple wage smash burger with BLT, "A" overall. Fast as quiet.

This place rules! Good vibes, good music, good burgers, and good beer. Can't ask for much more! Plenty of seating inside and out but expect a full croud if going during peak meal times. Service was great. Very accommodating and helpful in getting our order in, we had a hungry toddler and needed food quick. Burgers aren't cheap but they are loaded and the seasoning on the shoestring fries is delicious. The dipping sauces are excellent as well. 100% coming back next time I'm in PB! read more

Walking down the streets of pacific beach and decided to stop by this cozy restaurant to get a bite to eat. Love the location as it was steps away from the ocean. Parking was pretty easy to find as well. We were seated right away and our waiter was quick to get our order. The hubby and I shared the pretzel and plate of meat pies this was more then enough for us! In addition, I ordered a beer that was a bit to strong for my taste so I loved that they kindly exchanged it for another. Ambience was contemporary nice upscale yet casual beachy vibes! For me the food was good but not great. I felt the meat in the meat in the pie was a bit bland. The pie pastry was amazingly flakey and made exceptionally well. The pretzel was good just extremely heavy so it's an appetizer to feed a few people. Overall, food was good but didn't leave excited to try more things. I also wished our waiter would have checked on us at least once. She was pretty much unavailable the entire time we were there. Came here for brunch and my meal did not disappoint. Although my Bloody Mary was a bit spicy, the salad made up for it all. Shrimp was perfectly seasoned and the salad itself was not drenched in the dressing. Great bar to go watch the games or have lunch with friends before or after a beach day. Decent bar food. I wished I had ordered the pot pie cause it was yummy. Instead I was disappointed with the overpriced lamb skewers that was nothing noteworthy taste wise- just lots of onions and peppers on the skewer ( with just a few pieces of protein). They have a decent selection of burgers. They have indoor and outdoor seating. While it's waking distance to the beach - it does not have beach front views. Came here with a coupon for buy one get one half off burgers and were very excited to eat here because it always seems to have people dining. We got here without a reservation and walked up to a cluster of people on the street corner by the hostess stand. It was unclear who was in line and who wasn't, but a hostess quickly let us know that she would get us seated and went to help another table. After 5 minutes of us standing there, another waitress approached us and asked of we've been helped. She took us to our seats. The service the entire night was not impressive. From there, it took quite a while to receive water, then get our order taken, then receive our meal and finally the check. We both got burgers and enjoyed them but found they could be more flavorful- even some more salt would've helped the flavors come out! I had picked up a two burgers-for-one coupon that was valid at Bare Back Grill and its sister restaurants Dunedin New Zealand Eats, Queenstown Bistro, and Queenstown Public House. I called in a to-go order and when I came by to pick up the food, the entire place was pretty dead on a Saturday night which was surprising for a beachfront business. My first selection was the Bare Lil Lamb which was a lamb burger with blue cheese, mint dressing, beet root, lettuce, tomato, red onion, aioli, and a sweet tomato chutney. I had sampled this burger before at a taste festival so I knew I was going to like it because the lamb was moist without a strong gamey taste. The problem was that the burger was supposed to come with potato chips and pickles. Neither was included in my take-out bag. The other burger I picked was the Guajo Loco. This consisted of a house turkey patty topped with a cayenne aioli, arugula, tomato, jalapeño jack, and mango salsa. The spiciness was reasonable between the aioli and jack cheese. Again, the chips and pickles were left out. I guess I should have double checked the contents of my order before I left. Given how slow the customer traffic was, I thought the staff would have verified everything as well. These were not your ordinary cheap burgers. Thank goodness for the BOGO coupon, otherwise $30+ would have been a lot to spend for two of them. I gave four stars for the food quality, however the lack of attention to detail on the service end dropped my overall review to three stars. read more

Solid bar! Wandered in from the beach bc my friend and I were in the search for some hot toddies and we were told they could do it. Immediately got seated at the bar and the manager (Alex I believe?) got to work. He's so friendly and runs a tight, customer forward ship. The drinks were delicious and just what the doctor ordered. Came on a Thursday and it was packed as if it was a Saturday night -- they get business! Sitting at a bar tells you a lot about an establishment and if you want to come back lol. They were very clean with how they bussed tables, cleaned the glasses and handled food/drinks. Very team oriented staff. Was impressed a few staffers were willing to stay past their shift to help out as needed. Eventually got some sliders to nibble and they were great! I'm sure their full menu is tasty. Stopped by here a few months ago by chance during a football playoff game. The hostess was very friendly, and the waitress was even friendlier. So inviting and welcoming. Parking is always rough in Pacific Beach, so keep that in mind. There's a fun beach/ New Zealand vibe going on here. They have some interesting items on their menu, but I went for the burger and my friend went for the salad. I definitely enjoyed the burger and the fries, but the price point was a little higher than what I was used to. You'll find most the burgers are going to be in the $20 plus club. I've also heard they have a burger club worth checking out with some cool Perks. Plenty of TVs to watch sports on, and you're really dang close to the beach! We ran across this restaurant about a month ago; by being in its area. I ordered the Miso Tasty Chicken Sandwich and my husband ordered the Patty Melt. The food was outstanding as was the service, provided by Will. Yesterday we wanted to drive there (on purpose) to order take out. I called ahead and was placed on hold for too long and I hung up. Driving 25 miles out of our way was worth it to us. As we got closer, the restaurant call me back. The friendly voice apologized for the wait and asked if were we still interested in ordering. I said "yes!" I placed our order and arrived before it was packaged to go. We sat at the restaurant and enjoyed a drink as we waited for our delicious food. The Manager "comped" our drinks. Food: Bennies is the move, especially for weekend brunch. The taters that came with had excellent crunch. Service: Very polite. Our server found that sweet spot where he's not leaving your table stranded but also not badgering you every 10 seconds if everything's okay. Food did take a little bit to come out, but realistically, on a weekend brunch at peak hours at a table of 6, that's still pretty decent. Pro-tip: mimosas make the time go faster. It's just science. Seating: Outdoor seating is really nice. You're in Pacific Beach. Why stay inside? That said, cars are driving by right next to you, so keep that in mind if that gives you or your friends anxiety. Parking: There ARE a few parking spots just around the corner, but they're almost always taken. If you're one of those people that inexplicably "have" to park less than 20ft from the entrance (we all know those people, bless their uptight souls), go for it. When we got our bill I was surprised to see that our happy hour fish and chips which was supposed to be $10 was now $27! I ordered the patty melt with cucumber, 1000 island dressing, and grilled onions and it was amazing. The onion rings were also so good, same with the parmesan tots. I had this place on my radar for about 6 months, and one busy summer day I found a parking spot a half block away and knew it was the sign I'd been waiting for. Most of the tables were full, but I prefer to sit at the bar most of the time anyway. Molly was the bartender that day and was very nice. She is a smart young woman with a great sense of humor, and even though the place was very busy she engaged the whole tiki themed bar effortlessly. I saw the meatloaf with mashed sweet potatoes and ordered that, along with a couple rum drinks reminiscent of the ones that are over priced the Bali Hai. The meatloaf was awesome and the drinks were, well, just what rum drinks are supposed to be: cold, sticky sweet and fruity and delivering that later-that-evening buzz that would happily become a hangover with just one more push. I resisted, but couldn't help expanding my hoodie collecting with a Bareback zip up that is the perfect fall SD hoodie - soft and lightweight. And all this while holding an ongoing conversation with a nice woman from Arizona and enjoying the crew banter. I had a great time and will definitely do it again, but I'll try to spend a little less money doing it. No knock on the bar or staff for that one; I spend to much money rather frequently. read more
