One of my new favorite spots to grab drinks and appetizers. Lots of draft beers to choose from. This may seem a little random but this is actually the best place to get a pizookie. It's unlike any I've ever had anywhere else. They have lots of good apps. Happy hour Monday-Friday as well as specials on Thursday's. Some of my favorite small bites to get from here that pair nicely with their draft beers are their bone-in wings. They have a good variety of flavors to choose from. Also their shrimp skewers are delicious. This place is super chill and the service is awesome. Great stop cruising around PB, small location, great burgers. Always have great service and there is usually a spot open to sit. Menu is pretty limited but they have a variety of sandwiches and salads for the non burger lover. No view of the beach and limited outdoor seating. What stood out was that: we never felt rushed, Patrick was attentive and fun, all the other servers acknowledged us. Above and beyond service. My friend ordered a burrito and she got a BLT, she was fine but Patrick TOOK the initiative to acknowledge the mistake and 'make the moment right'. If I lived near there, it would be my home away from home. Fresh wonderful food and the staff so friendly. Had the steak with mushrooms, I wanted to lick the plate but was in public. We were going to catch a sunset in PB and so decided to grab Bareback takeout for a picnic. 2 burgers, one kids' meal slider (the size of a silver dollar), fries (that don't come with the meal) and a couple lemonades cost us $73.00. We were SHOCKED by these prices (we recognize inflation is real but this was beyond), and disappointed that the burgers were not how we ordered (asked for med rare and got well done) and the kid meal was just ONE teeny tiny slider. So a friend recently told me that for as much as I talk about this place my review for it is a bit weak so here is an update. Bareback has very quickly turned into my favorite place for a burg in SD. Not only does it have a great variety of organically made burgers and wiches with fresh ingredients, but they're sides are second to none as well. Namely the fries, which like some of the women I tend to date, are sweet but a little salty. I'm now working on about a bakers dozen visits here so its safe to say I'm pretty familiar with their menu. The Kiwilango, the Queenstown and Sheila's cracked are my top three choices if your getting your burg on, and if you want to do something different I recommend the Bare Lil Lamb. I've yet to try it, (not because I couldn't take it down) but the Bare Big N Dirty sounds like a tons of fun as well. Its two large beef patties with bacon, cheese, and topped with two fried eggs. Also like some women I tend to date, its safe to say this burger is sloppy. The service here also makes it as rad as it is. All just cool ass people that really enjoy working there and it shows. I always end up getting way drunker than I wanted to just because they are kick ass. It's way easier to spend a grip of your lute on alcohol when the servers are shooting the shit with you. Seriously, one time I came in with 2 buddies for a birthday and we did about $150 worth of jaegerbombs. It's safe to say that like a small portion of the women I have dated, we were stupid. I got kind of too enthusiastic when I tried out my new mountain bike, I biked for hours and kind of forgot that I also had to head back. That would cost me half a day and according to the 5-hour energy that I took I only had 1 hour left... Oops. Luckily I had friends hanging out somewhere up north who had the brilliant idea to put my bike in the back of the car, head over to Windandsea beach to relax and then had over to Bare Back Grill in PB to get a master burger. Could have come up with that myself. Great minds think alike. When there is one thing I can crave after a long day of activity, sun, sand, wind and sea... it's SALT. The fries at Bare Back are just perfect and I don't even like fries or usually anything fried that is. I don't know what it is they put on the fries at Bare Back that makes them so good. It almost tastes like they put sugar on them, which make you wonder if they accidentally mixed up the sugar and salt shakers. They give you a huge basket of the yellow goodies, but luckily you can share it with friends because you would eat the whole thing if it wasn't for the fact that you know there was a huge burger coming up. Take them with the wasabi mayonnaise. Now for the burgers. They're all organic meat, and they have a lot of choices. The buns are a bit crispy and all the burgers can be ordered vegetarian style too. I would recommend ordering real meat and not the vegetarian stuff like tofu though (too juicy, which ruins the buns). No tomatoes for the same reason. The burgers, especially the kiwi one (with pineapple) and lamb are delicious so I would recommend ordering these if you're a carnivore. Bare Back grill is often packed, in the middle of Mission Boulevard and an open bar-style place so a lot of after-beach-day visitors, tourists and PB meat heads and some over the top screaming girls (-seriously, how enthusiastic can you be to say hi to friends that walk in-). I don't go to PB restaurants/bars that often (more almost never) but this place is an exception, because of the great food I can deal with the imperfections. Service can be sloooooow but it will take you a while to eat the big portions here anyway. read more

Quality delicious organic beef? Yes! Man, I miss this place. Came here twice and was satisfied both times. Burgers are generously sized, juicy, and come in so many delicious varieties. I love me some Patty M Melt, and yes, I can devour the whole freakin thing. Sweet potato fries are bomb too. If you find yourself waiting too long at the front door, consider ordering at their side window. It'll take 10-15 min, during which you can stroll around by the beach and grab a beer or two (and get tipsy like I did BEFORE dinner). BBG, as a bar, you kind of suck now. Why? 1. It's super crowded and our hero can never get a seat when he walks in on the weekends. 2. The bartenders are generally pretty rude and unfriendly. 3. The massive lip on your bar feels odd and has spilled our hero's drink when he set it down on the edge of the bar. It's uncomfortable to rest your elbows on, and bad for placing drinks down. 4. You ended $1 wells on Thursday to Saturday nights after 10 PM. Nowadays, your $2 wells are perhaps 4 ounces and jammed so full of ice it feels like a shot. 5. You stop serving at 12:55 AM and threaten to take everyone's drinks away in five minutes. Can't you serve drinks until two? It is doubtful that our hero will ever return here for drinks. However, he'll always keep a fond memory in his heart of a time he came here for $1 wells with two of his friends and was the only one who hadn't thrown up by the end of the night. PROS: - Nice location a stone's throw away from the Garnet strip, but still right next to the beach. CONS: - See above. read more

Generally, I say no because most of my friends will want to head over to Rockys and they just don't blow wind up my skirt. Bare Back Grill turned me into a gosh darn Marilyn Monroe. Tender juicy meat, soft bun, excellent fresh toppings. Happy Birthday Mr. President! They recently got new buns, so they're bigger and softer just that much better to make you bigger and softer. The Patti Melt is awesome, I love the rye bread but it'd be a fantastic, fresh version of the animal style at In-n-out (same basic ingredients) on a regular bun. And if you're a beer drinker, Tuesday nights from 6-10 buy a pitcher, get a burger. Yes please and thank you! And the staff really kicks butt. There aren't many places in PB that deliver any more... and call me crazy but domino's pizza isn't usually on my top craving list! Tonight was actually the first time I had been to the Bare Back grill....and I was impressed! Boasting their location and 100% organic beef, their menu says "Fresh, natural, chemical free beef, chicken, lamb and fish! Freshly baked, preservative free bread. Fresh natural produce and fresh sauces using chemical free ingredients." I BELIEVE IT! Everything was so tasty! The fries were salty and sweet. The burgers juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were seasoned well (probably my least favorite as they were a lil greasy) but all in all, a great meal! With Bob Marley playing in the background, a great burger and a cold beer... what more could anyone ask for? read more

Bought a group on to this place. I read the yelp reviews before I went here. Everyone says awesome burgers. Best in PB. Im going to have to disagree. Definitely not the best. I had high expectations. The service sucks also. Took 10 minutes to get our first rounds before someone even came by to ask us for what we wanted. If we didn't know what we wanted at that time, i bet it would of been another 10 minutes before we could even order again. They have deals after 10 for their hours beer for 2 dollars. I assumed it was a pint since it was their house beer. Nope. They should put that its half a pint size so you aren't getting a deal, just a smaller beer. Their saving grace is the awesome shoestring fries. I would come back for that. We got a burger with egg and anotehr with bacon and avocado. Their burgers are soso. Big patty, but You are paying 10 bucks for a burger. Seems like good ingredients. But the flavor inst that great. I actually think red robin is much better. "Free Beer Tomorrow." Undoubtedly the best bar sign hanging over the exit I've ever seen. Surrounded by mixed-sports allegiances (Black Shirts, University of Southern Florida, Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers...), I strut into Bare Back Grill, but very soon I'm soothed by their easy to read, and humorous menu. All of their burgers look delicious, varied, and stacked. Better still, they have enormous discounts on every day items, including absurd U-Call-It prices ($2!) and even discounts on their appetizers and foods. I've tried the Sheila's Cracked, the Kiwilango, the Bare B'Rger (all with the veggie pattie since I've taken a Vegetarian oath that expires in three weeks). All sincerely impressed me (though I wouldn't recommend their Edam cheese; it's not that impressive). Their fries are sweet, but a little on the thin side. I still like them, but others may not. Their onion rings are actually quite delicious, and I might just opt for those next time instead of the fries. I can't speak for their calamari, since, again, I'm vegetarian lately. The service has always been snappy and polite, but if it's busy, I can imagine (especially on a day with wicked happy-hour specials) the service might lag a little. He did a great job of taking people's food orders as well as running back behind the bar and making drinks. This place was packed with enthusiastic eaters on a beautiful Sunday in PB. While waiting for a seat I observed massive burgers and huge baskets of fried potatoes coming out of the kitchen. All the meat here is organic, they also serve lamb, chicken. It's a nice concept, and really works well in Pacific Beach. They offer beer and alcohol which also works well in PB. My organic burger was called a Hogs and Heifers and consisted of organic beef, bacon, avocado, red onion, alioli bbq sauce and cheese. The meat had a nice flavor to it, and the bun was baked fresh and gave the appearance of a huge burger. My gf had the Queensland Fave consisting of the organic beef, edam cheese, and the usual lettuce, tomato, onions grilled. Good burger but I've had better. We also ordered the Kiwi 3 Some, fried goodness in a basket. It consisted of calamari, onion rings and the fries. It was way too much for the two of us, and if there is a next time I'll stick with the fries. Not that the calamari wasn't good, but it didn't go well with the burger for me. My only complaint is no utensils, or plates. Just the basket with the burger, and the basket of fried goodies. I need a side plate for the sauces. The service was good and we got one of the high tables so we had room for the food and drinks. read more

Bareback, you were welcoming and kind to me as the new comer to the group. You welcomed me with your comfy beachy seats right next to the window. You quickly offered me a heff and not to long after that came out your amazing small eats. You caught my eye with the cute platters used to serve the calamari, fries, and onion rings. The calamari was my favorite, the breaded batter was seasoned perfectly. The calamari was tender, sweet and delicious in every bite. The onion rings were HUGE!!!! They were not your typical whack onion rings where you eat more batter than the onion. These were perfectly battered just enough to coat the tender sweet onion in every bite. Now the fries, wow...a curve ball was thrown to my palate. Fries with cracked fresh pepper and a sprinkle of sugar. Yes, you read right...SUGAR. Who would have thought sugar with fries, it was paired great with the sauce. I'm tempted to say the sauce was a wasabi mayo type of deal; whatever it was...it paired great with the sugary fries. Now to the big guy, the burger! I ordered the Sheilas Cracked, which had fried egg, sweet beets, tomato, onion, lettuce, a sweet bbq type of sauce and brie. The burger was huge and I would recommend on sharing. The meat was cooked to perfection, it was moist and cooked to my liking. The only thing that made me have a little frown was the meat...it was a little bland. But overall the burger was huge and satisfied my tummy. Customer service here is great! Used to like this place, but the management is terrible. Asked for a burger without onions - and, of course, it came loaded with raw onions. Okay - mistakes happen. They offered to make a new burger and I asked the waitress if the burger they brought out would be thrown away. She replied yes. So, rather than wait another 25 minutes and watch them throw away mostly good food, I cheerfully picked off all the onions (even though we all know that once something touches an onion, you can still taste it). I asked the waitress if they would mind comping the fries or beer for me, since I just saved them from making a new one. The "manager" came over and offered a half-hearted apology and bluntly said they don't buy people's beer. "We just don't do that." Guess that settles it! I even took the time to sit down and write an old-fashioned snail mail letter to the owner. No response. Not even an F-U. Long story short - I used to be a fan, but not anymore. This is probably a great place if you don't want anything out of the ordinary (they'll mess up special orders), don't care about crappy service, and don't care if they treat customers with respect. Oy. It's a good thing that I'm a pretty easy-going vegetarian. Overall, I like the place, but I had my first bad experience today. The thing that all us vegetarians fear happened. I ordered a veggie burger. When I bit into it....it was not a veggie burger. A lot of people would have dished out 1-star reviews and flipped over tables. Twice. But I understand that mistakes get made on occasion, and that I should be more conscious to check before eating things. The good news is that the waiter was very apologetic (wasn't his fault, the cooks got it wrong) and took care of the situation the best that he could. Other than today, it's been great. I like the atmosphere for PB. When veggie burgers do make their way to my table, they're good here. The beers are nice, the ocean breezes are nice, and all the wait staff are really cool. Geez... time flies. The last time I was at Bare Back was almost two years ago. And that was during a very, very long Labor Day weekend. Well nearly two years later, I finally made it back and the food still tastes as great as I can remember! After ordering a round of their house amber, we got a basket fries and two Queenstown Faves. The fries are still tasty as ever. Perfectly salted and cooked just right. And what I love about their fries is they throw on a little bit of sugar to bring out a sweet flavor in the potatoes. I'm sure this is why once you start eating their fries, you can't put them down. You immediately become addicted which is why it's a good idea to share a basket a fries. One could easily attempt to eat a whole basket by themselves, but why would you want to do that? So you can hate yourself later? No thanks. When the burgers came out, I knew I wouldn't finish the whole thing. The Queenstown Fave definitely takes full concentration when eating this burger. It's a large organic beef patty with lettuce, tomato, red onion, aioli, their special sauce, and edam cheese. And that edam cheese is what made this burger. It's a white creamy cheese that isn't over powering or sharp. Basically, it tasted like the perfect burger. The bun was soft, the meat was juicy, and all the sauces combined with the cheese made me realize that I should never let two years go by again without coming here!
