I really felt like I had written a review here, but I guess not.... This place is a beachy (Australian?) spot, that has more of a dining vibe than a bar one. If I want a smaller (and sometimes less crazy) place to eat than Duck Dive, this hits the spot. I've had their ahi tuna salad a few times and really enjoyed it--a good size and super fresh ingredients. I also came for the 50 cent mimosas brunch and was easily able to get shmammered. I had the Thanksgiving Turkey Burger, and maybe it was the mimosas talking, but I'd gladly eat that for Thanksgiving next year or any day leading up to it. Simply delicious--the whole traditional meal in one bite. Always have good deals going on, lots of tv's--wish there was more outdoor seating. read more

I can't get enough of this place. Literally every sandwich I've had is amazing. The BBG sauce makes every burger better...especially my fave Hogs & Heffers burger. Put on a side of sweet potato fries with blue cheese and I'm a happy girl. Their beat the clock mimosas are a great deal. Breakfast is solid. Such a fun way to spend a weekend morning. The only downside is parking, but you're likely having a couple drinks anyway, so just uber. :) read more

The food is amazing!!! And I mean like stupid good burgers! We've gone twice now and have two kids, the kids menu is great and the beer and adult food is to die for! Both times we've gone we've been helped by Adam, he is the greatest server I have ever been helped by, he's sweet with my kids and the friendliest guy you could get. This is a cool restaurant with good food. The burgers are unique and super delicious. You order everything al a cart and it gets to be about $20- $25 per person. The onion rings are delicious and the sweet potato fries were good too. Very clean fun, beach atmosphere with the windows open to mission blvd. My kids love the environment and the open windows but the kids menu was decent - NOT GREAT. Probably wont go back with kids but definitely will with adults. read more

Gets very crowded and quite noisy, too much for me so its better to sit outside, bench seats inside are uncomfortable. If you are a burger and beer fan then I guess this is the place, their fries are good. read more

Came here earlier this year, maybe around April. Had the Maui Wowi with Brie cheese! Loved their variety of nice cheeses, not those regular cheddar, pepperjack, etc. It's a good place to go if you understand a thing or two about cheese! The burger was om nom nom. This review is for their Sunday brunch. Came by here with a few friends for their beat the clock mimosas and some breakfast. Beat the clock mimosas starts at 10am at 50cents a mimosa and it goes up 50 cents every half hour...well worth it. I tried the Crabby Benny, which was just alright. I wouldn't say breakfast foods are their strong point. You can see in the pictures, the crab cake eggs benedict came with pieces of toast which I found odd since this dish is usually served with english muffins. The crab cakes were just fried crab cutlets. They're fried so they tasted fine--nothing extraordinary. The poached eggs were nicely cooked, so that was a plus. I wasn't a huge fan of the breakfast potatoes which were just some seasoned mashed up potatoes. Overall, the breakfast is alright as long as you are washing it down with the mimosas. The mimosas aren't anything to write home about, but they do the job. Our server was nice and always checked on us multiple times to keep us refilled. I'd recommend this spot if you want to get started on some Sunday day drinking in PB...not for a yummy brunch meal. read more

We're pseudo-tourists, who've been out to PB many times with family living within walking distance. Love their business model and philosophy, catering to the natural, organic crowd, and craft beer fans. Feigning a grass fed burger, we walked here to find a friendly atmosphere, with tables, stools, and fast service. We ordered a four beer flight, and a few local favorites for our burger entrees. They have vegan and gluten free options too. For the location, price, service, and food, this place is a must stop for any local or tourist. We'll be stopping back for another meal to try some more craft brews and other options on their extensive menu. 21 and older crowd, and it helps to have a designated driver (or walk). read more

I went here with a couple buddies, and from the reviews I read I had some good expectations coming into it. I was unfortunately let down, the service was decent, they were nice but it was nothing to write home about or something to write a stellar review about. The Fries we ordered also came out a good amount of time after our burgers, to the point where we were close to being done with them by the time we got our fries. The Burger itself was nothing to write home about either. I had the Maui Waui, and generally any burger that comes with pineapple grills the pineapple first which is a delightful treat! This burger was as if they just pulled it right out of the fridge and slapped that thing on top of the meat. I'm also a huge fan of a unique and tasty bun with my burgers, but this bun almost had a chalky texture to it instead of being light and fluffy. All in all I was not impressed by this place, on top of the mediocrity it was pretty damn expensive too, I doubt I will go back again. read more

Favorite burger joint in pacific beach so far. Easily top five in SD. Staff is top notch. Burgers come with home made potato chips as standard but we always order French fries for the table to share. Haven't tried many of their appetizers but the pretzel is legit. Burgers are flavorful and properly cooked to order. Solid craft beer selection that constantly rotates. We've been going here since they opened a few years ago and are so happy they have been able to stick it out. A great place to stop by on the way to or from the beach in the summer. Their burgers and fries are so tasty and fresh. My boyfriend always orders the Queenstown Fave with Edam cheese. It's always juicy and the Edam makes the burger. I love the Wake and Bake (fish burger) and if I don't order this, the Cobbler Chop't Salad is great and filling. Beer choices are standard. They also serve wine. No hard-A though. read more

A few friends and I stumbled into Bareback, hungover after St. Patty's. We were super hungry, and we were definitely not disappointed by the size of the burgers/ sandwiches. I don't eat red meat, but apparently the burgers are great. They are organic as well. I had one of the chicken sandwiches, which was REALLY good. It's kinda pricey, but worth it, I think. The place is pretty small, but when we went there was only one other party inside, so it was fine, probably because everyone was still sleeping off the green beer... Good service as well. Oh, the onion rings were super duper! __________ edit 4/6/09 I have been to BBG numerous tims and it's consistently solid. I have yet to try the veggie burger, though, I always break down and get a chicken sammy. The onion ring, calamari and fries appetizer is great and huge, easily enough for 3-4 people. This review is long overdue and I think mainly might be a result of my sitting in Kailua, dreaming about Bareback fries. This place puts sugar on their fries!!!!!!! Hands down, I'm in heaven. Scoff, not, dear Yelpers, until you have tried the delicious blend of sugar and cracked pepper on some fried potatoes...mmmmmmm.....get multiple baskets, trust me. I always ordered the Maui Waui...how ironic. Ginormous burger, great aioli sauce. I love the laidback ambiance and all the TVs that usually have football or surfing or boarding on. went here for the first time on st. patty's day MAN WAS IT PACKED! but the bouncer at the front was soooo nice so i didnt care we waited a little bit to get a table and the guy actually remembered to come get us when one opened up even though they were swamped the waitresses were so efficient and were doing an amazing job our waitress was so nice and friendly and always got our things to us THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! not a huge menu but still plenty of options and the pitchers were really well priced. man that was one of the best burgers ive ever had THEIR FRENCH FRIES AND DIP WERE INCREDIBLE! i will definitely be going back! read more

This place was good to get a quick burger and watch a game--but the prices are a little on the high side--almost 11$ for a good but not overwhelmingly amazing burger. I like the options they have--it gives you a lot of choices for both chicken and regular burgers. The chicken burget I got had mango chutney, cucumbers, and raita (a yogurt type dressing somewhat like taziki). I'll likely go back, but I'm not in a rush to do so. read more

My first meal in Pacific Beach. Fantastic. A friend of ours, a recent transplant from the DC area suggested we hit up BB Grill for some food and games (Skins for us and Bears for her). Perfect. I honestly can't recall *exactly* which chicken sandwich we ordered or exactly which burger we ordered. Since we couldn't decide my girlfriend and I decided to to get one of each and split. A couple of local guys suggested what to get and I must say, BB served up the MOST amazing chicken sandwich I've ever had.... which makes me wonder if I eat one drunk I probably would think I died and have gone to heaven. *note to self must try this when I return to PB in the spring. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Their bloody mary was super fab phenomenal - now I was probably hungover, drunk or just still asleep but this bloody mary cured all of the above. I have yet to run into a place that could top BB's. Which makes me sad and happy. Food was excellent. Drinks were amazing (revival juice). Locals? Can't beat em, we met so many interesting and cool people AND within walking distance of my girls house. Rest assured I will be back for that bloody mary. New Zealand beef- all organic- fresh baked bread. It was really good and they were really busy for a week night! I didn't mind the lack service because it allowed me to scarf down my burger like it was my last meal on earth. I hate when waitresses come by to ask how your meal when you just stuffed your mouth with a huge bite of food. Being a chick... That can be embarrassing! This is the place of the $6+ burger.... It was a holiday weekend and a Sunday. My spouse and I just wanted to get something for breakfast. We had visited the place across the street and were told that all the vacant tables were reserved. We could sit at the bar. When I told the waitress I didn't see any seats at the bar she just shrugged. We decided to try Bare Back Grill. Wow. What a nice find. The server was one of the nicest I have seen in Pacific Beach. The place is small but is set up with really nice group seating that allowed us to walk right in and sit right down. Shrimp and grits for my spouse. Delicious. I had the Breakfast Burrito with Tots. Fantastic. Great specials on Bloody Mary's and Mimosas and you have a fantastic experience. Next time I will skip the drama at the place across the street and head straight to Bare Back Grill. I might even try one of the many tasty craft beers they have on tap. Thank you! read more

This place does pose the ever-so-hard parking issue! PB is undesirable because of the extreme parking problems and drunken roudiness. It is the typical beach town (which is desirable to others) and has a very young vibe. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I guess if I didn't get so frustrated riding around looking for parking, it would settle better! Anyways, the review. I actually like this place alot. I love going to get a cold beer, the Holy Roller (tofu and veggie sandwich with peanut sauce) and fries. I don't like that mayo dip though. I know some people like that stuff but I like ketchup on my fries! The sugar doesn't bother me but sometimes there is too much salt. The place itself is comfy and I like the surf videos. I like the open-air feeling of the place and simple hand-crafted look of the tables and other decor. My friend painted the Kiwi on the outside of the building (facing the ocean). It's a simple burger and beer place with a twist. I think it is perfect for PB and they are pretty laid back and friendly, but the service is a little slow at times. Solid menu. Solid burgers. Solid service. I am a FAN of specialty burgers, so I was quite impressed by the menu at Bare Back. I am also quite the fan of lamb burgers, so I always try to order them when i see them on the menu. This lamb burger was totally delicious, and I loved the mix of beets and blue cheese on top. After the saucy mess that I made (special relish and eggs) I don't think I will be able to judge a burger the same way ever again. Every year my AZ friends come out for Spring Break, and every year I drive down to meet them. One place that is always on the must-go list is Bare Back. We love the Happy Hour, drafts, and burgers/sandwiches! The service is a little slow, but friendly, and it tends to be a little less loud and rambunctious than other establishments in PB. We've never had a meal we didn't like. Ingredients are organic and natural (100% organic beef) and homemade veggie patties. One tip, you do have to order fries/rings/etc. separate from your burger. This is great if you are in a group (one side of fries feeds 2-3), but more difficult if your party is small. Parking is difficult, but it is PB and is expected. Everything is nearly walking distance though, so don't feel like you have to park right in the middle of everything. Take the day, and enjoy it. read more
