This dinner was a comedy of errors -- except no one was laughing. First, it was a warm evening and we were sitting outside. The waitress informed us that because it was so hot, they were out of draft beer (among a litany of other outages, but this was the most disappointing). So we ordered our chilled canned beer and then our dinner. My boyfriend is a vegetarian and ordered their veggie burger with a multi-grain bun. I ordered a regular burger in a lettuce wrap. When our meals arrived, we dug in. My boyfriend was instantly alarmed -- he had bit into and swallowed a regular burger! And upon inspection, I realized that my lettuce wrap was hiding the veggie burger. They had switched our dinners! We informed the waitress and at first, she tried convincing us that we were wrong, but agreed to take the plates back to the kitchen to confirm. Turns out, we were right (of course). But - we did not get an apology - just a 'You're right - they switched them. They are fixing it now and it will be out shortly.' Then - as we were sitting there waiting for the correct meals to come out, we overheard another waiter telling our waitress that he had served a turkey burger to a vegetarian earlier that week. What happen to this place? My husband and I have lived in the neighborhood for 7 yrs and this used to be our favorite burger joint. Unfortunately this isn't the first time we went and were disappointed. Our medium burger was well done & the tomatoes weren't ripe at all. Same as the last time:/ I want to love you but I can't help but feel you have forsaken quality for quantity. I don't doubt sometimes you are still amazing but for this regular customer you have lacked consistency. I hate to complain, this is my first review where I have had something negative to say but when it cost $70 for two people to go for lunch and it's just ok I feel it warrants some feedback. You're service is always on point, love your staff and your fries and ringside amazing. I do believe your food is good quality I just think consistency is key. Ugh. Against my better judgment, I agreed to go here for brunch this weekend, due to the fact that my dining companions are all under the spell of Bareburger and have deluded themselves into thinking this place is much better than it actually is (not their fault, really. I have found this is totally the norm with Astorians and Bareburger). I had never gone here for brunch so I was hoping Bareburger could redeem itself to me (not like it has to redeem itself to me, but hey, this is MY yelp page). I got an egg sandwich which came with sweet potato fries, fruit and toast. The toast was nowhere to be seen but I didn't even ask about it because I had more than enough food. The price was fine - 9 bucks. The sandwich was wayyyy too salty and greasy and the things on it just don't compliment each other well - tomato on a hot egg sandwich? Yuck. It just wasn't very good at all. Sweet potato fries and fruit were good. So the waitress is clearing away the plates and somehow, she spilled a thing of syrup ALL over me. It somehow managed to cover my hoodie (always gotta wear your Sunday best to brunch) and my purse which was on the ground. Ughhhh thank God it wasn't in my hair. I was perfectly nice to the girl, I used to be a server and I completely understand that accidents happen. She apologized profusely and then brought out a wet sponge for me to clean myself off and the manager came out and offered to have anything dry cleaned but ... come on. Offer to take something off the bill. While he was talking to us, I was really preoccupied trying to clean off the avalanche of syrup that I was slathered in and didn't even notice that he WASN'T comping anything off the bill. Otherwise I totally would have said something because there is no way I would get my 9 dollar Gap hoodie and 30 dollar Daffy's purse dry cleaned. Come on. Let's get serious, pal. I'm so disappointed. I consider myself a regular, but after the experience I just had, I don't know if I'll go back. It was a nearly empty restaurant, and after being seated, I sat a good 15 minutes without service. I already knew what I wanted to order, and made it obvious I was ready to do so. The hostess finally started telling the wait staff that someone needs to help me, but they literally ignored her. It was so bizarre. There was hardly any customers there! I finally had to just walk out. The food is amazing, but no way was I giving my money to a waiter or business that doesn't even acknowledge me. No thank you. read more

Rip off Burger Joint. For two people: Had appetizer chicken fingers, two orders of fries two burgers (omg , these were like slider size), a beer and one seltzer water, Total? $70!! Includes 18% tip because I'm not a douche. Bison was funky tasting and it shouldn't be. It was just ok, not worth the money. Staff was super nice and should be for that kind of $. Love the menu! Wish I could say the same about the customer service... Sunday hostess was not helpful. I sat outside for 15-20 waiting for a waiter, and I was sitting right next to her. When I walked up to her to let her know, "I have been waiting for a while, I think I'm going to leave because I'm pretty hungry", she says "okay Bye" .... nice... so I went across the street to the new place. ELK BURGER!!! Good stuff, expect this organic place to really take off. I understand that once they get their license, there will be organic beer (on tap and in bottle) and organic wine offered. Instead of bottled water, they have filtered water, which is exactly the right thing to do from both the taste and the conservationist standpoints. While relatively not cheap (especially if you go for the beef burger - but what's Piedmontese?), the quality and size of the burgers justifies the two dollars or so more than you would pay at more fast foody burger joints. The 7 Grain bun is great. Will definitely come again. read more

maybe i simply was not a fan of bison or elk.. i probably should have gotten beef... because the taste of the burgers was rather bizarre for me. other than that, the fries were amazing and the dipping sauces were full of ingenuity. the black and white milkshake was also very creamy, like a good milkshake should be. the service was good and quick. i need to go back to try the beef in order to give a better, more accurate review. read more

I want to start by saying that we used to go to Bareburger a lot more often a few years back. But their prices are really high for a burger joint so we stopped. The other day I was walking around doing errands and decided to stop in for a quick burger. I ordered a beef patty, no bun, lettuce, cheddar and pickles with mayo and ketchup on the side. I ordered before 2:45. At 3pm the bartender (very nice guy!) apologized for the wait. At 3:05 the burger came out. Naturally, the first thing I tried was the cheese. It was horrible - it just tasted off. It was as if the cheese was never supposed to be heated. It had clearly separated and was just an oily curdy looking mess. I asked if it was normal for that cheese to look and taste that way. The bartender seemed confused and took the burger away for it to be replaced - with the cheese on the side - which I did not ask for, but I think I appreciated? Anyway, 10 or so minutes later they put a new burger in front of me with the cheese on the side. I tasted the cheese and it was just wasn't really meant for a burger so I didn't even bother. The burger was fine, but small for a $14.00 meal. I was a little mad that he didn't take off the cost of the cheese considering it was terrible and uneaten. Moral: there are other burger joints in the neighborhood. read more

Poor poor poor poor POOR customer service! We used to come here all the time! Stopped coming because the mexican restaurant next door is better. Started coming here again and tried to go today. Asked for wifi to do work--"we don't give out our wifi code to customers.". Random restaurants on Easter Island don't charge for wifi, yet you're special enough and you can?! I've had five star expiriences there before so for this reason I will be giving my two star experience, three stars. In a nut shell; hostess was great. Perfect charm and professionalism. We sat in the garden because the weather was gorgeous and thier garden is beautiful. This was last Tuesday evening and I was meeting friends. Service had no personality and then, once the food and beverages hit the table (at the same time I might add), there simply was NO SERVICE. No check back, no offer of another drink, no water re-fills. Service got so bad, I almost thought Jamie Kennedy or Ashton Kutcher would pop out of a door way and we would all just laugh and say "you guys!!". Our food was very good with the exception of mine. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was very very dry and very very over-seasoned. There was absolutely no chance to tell anyone however because the waitress was suffering from one of two things; either she has no skills to do the job or she has far too many tables and no support from the management. Oh, and by the way, note to management...I didn't see any. A restuarant that is as popular and therefore very busy MUST have hands on management in order to insure excellent quality of service and food. Sadly, Bare Burger struck out this time. read more

I ordered the sweet potato patty on brioche it was very flavorful, portion size was not bad. I came in around 10:30 so the restaurant was pretty much empty and the waiters were very attentive. The only thing i dislike was the fried pickles appetizer which was totally not worth the value. I highly do not recommend it. read more

Wow Bareburger, you disappoint me. I was bragging to everyone at work how I was going here for dinner last night and how amazing the burgers are, so I get there, and there's no ostrich, which was fine- I understand. But then my burger arrives (beef-grilled pineapple on a brioche, medium) and at this point I'm so excited and absolutely starving and my burger comes out and it's so over cooked and as dry as I imagine a hockey puck tasting. I really should have sent it back but for some reason a lot of places have been screwing up (e.g. completely forgetting my meal, or bringing me a completely different one) and I didn't want to wait for a new meal and then eat alone once my partner was done with his, and usually there is no compensation for their mistake. So I just sucked it up and ate the thing, though I was completely unhappy with it and probably won't come back again for a while. Too bad Bareburger, I thought we had something special, and I take my burgers very seriously, I wish you would too. read more

So, Bareburger keeps changing this up, and while I appreciate the effort, I find myself not going here as much as before. WHen they first opened in 2008, everything was fresh, amazing, and overall, incredible. Now, some things fall flat. I came to brunch here for the first time in months, and was pleasantly surprised to see they totally renovated the dining room, adding stunning, tufted booths and a truly beautiful full bar. They previously had just beer and wine, but now they are serving DELICIOUS cocktails. For $15, your brunch order comes with coffee/tea, sweet potato wedges, fruit cup, and a mimosa. I'd highly recommend the chicken & waffles and especially the carrot cake french toast. The breakfast sandwiches leave something to be desired: I got the brisket egg sandwich with grilled onions and melted cheese on multi-grain bread. The brisket was bone dry, and not the moist version that you get when you order the brisket sandwich for lunch or dinner: very disappointed. I had to throw some mustard on to make it palatable. However, overall a good dining experience, since I was able to pick off my husband's and sister's plates. Service was pleasant and attentive, though it was crowded - and it was lively but still quiet enough to hear yourself and your brunch partners. read more

I got to try the Ostrich burger and the Bison burger here. The Ostrich burger was pretty good. I liked it more then the Bison burger. The Bison burger was kind of gamey. Bareburger delivers....soggy, cold burgers that look like a clump of dough smothered in sauce and swirled with cooked lettuce, smashed tomatoes, cheese, with a wad of meat stuffed inside. Yes, guys, I know fall is underway, but if you choose to offer delivery service, please do it appropriately. This means package it properly (separate the bread & cold toppings from the hot patty in the take-out container) and deliver it with appropriate heat insulators. You cannot just have some kid bike it over in a paper bag. That is silliness. By the time it gets here, the patty would've completely cooked all the toppings, wilting the lettuce and turning the tomatoes into a goopy mess. The "toasted" bun would be saturated with sauce and juices from the cooked toppings, deteriorating into a ball of mush. To add insult to injury, the cool-down process would congeal everything into an inedible mess. read more

On my quest to find the best burgers I stopped here on a Saturday evening. I went with the Canadian burger which from what I remember consisted of Canadian Bacon, Sauteed mushrooms, turkey bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato. I substituted the turkey bacon for Maple wood smoked bacon and the swiss for a cheese I do not remember. My medium rare patty came out the same as the medium well patty that was also ordered, which was a little disappointing. Other than that, I felt the burger came well together and all the different toppings added their own unique flavors to the meal. The only thing I really wasn't satisfied with was that their "fresh cut fries" came with no salt or seasoning on them which in turn made them just taste like dry potatoes. We were given four difference sauces (the "special" sauce was the best for me) but even after dipping the fries in them they still tasted bland. Not a big deal though as if it bothers you a simple dash of salt should fix that problem. If im ever in Astoria again I will definitely come back. read more

I definitely prefer shake shack's burgers to Bareburger but this place is aight. I ordered the ostrich burger for the heck of it alongside the fries and onion rings combo. My friends got the beef burgers. Overall the burgers were a bit dry tbh but nonetheless good. My ostrich burger has a "gamey" taste and packed mouthfuls of protein. YES! I can feel my gym workout thanking me for this meal. Anyway, its a good burger joint although a bit expensive. Is it a die hard place to come back to? Probably not. read more

We ordered the habanero burger with extra turkey bacon and the california burger with an order of fries and chicken tenders. The beef was supposed to be well done but both were pink in the center. The fries were just like the ones you can buy from the frozen section of the supermarket and soggy. The turkey bacon wasnt even bacon just a thick piece of meat. I will say the atmosphere is relaxing the resturants clean the organic concept is nice . The server didnt ask how the food was or if we needed anything . This is probably the best burger I have had. Why two stars? The service. The waitress came with the menu. I told her I know what I wanted. She said I'll be right back. Ten minutes later she was back. I ordered the lunch special. Burger, fries and a cola. The burger and fries came out in about ten minutes. I had to ask twice for the soda and it finally came when I was half way thru my burger. The soda comes in a large glass but there are only about six sips in it as it is chock full of ice. That's no big deal as they offer free refills. When I finished the soda I asked for a refill. Before I gave her the glass I removed the straw. I was half way thru the soda when I realized the straw I removed was on the table and the glass that was refilled was returned with a straw in it. It was someone else's glass. I know they didn't put the straw in it as they give you one wrapped in paper. There was no excuse for that. When I mentioned it to the waitress she said "Oh sorry. Would you like another glass" No thanks just a check. read more

First time at Bareburger today for lunch and it was great.I give it 5-stars for what it is. First of all, the employees are knowledgeable and super nice - our server was a doll. The vibe is cool with funky decor and there's an outdoor eating space for summer. The bathrooms were clean (this is very important). Now to the food - the menu is pretty large - it is kind of like a lunch menu as there aren't any dinner entrees. There are quite a few game items on there. My son had the elk burger. He loved it. My husband had the bison burger (he liked it but said the elk was better). I had a regular beef burger. All were cooked to the desired temperature for each of us. They have lots of dipping sauces and options to build a burger. You can get salads and burgers, etc. on a tortilla wrap or lettuce wrap if you choose not to eat bread. There are chicken sandwiches, veggie items - all organic. The milkshake was pure ice cream and was delicious.The options are wonderful. We will be back! read more

Glorious and amazing! Bareburger never disappoints. Most recently I tried the Jalapeno Express burger with elk and it was heavenly. I like that I can feel good about the organic beef and the lower fat of elk, yet KNOW FOR A FACT I am probably consuming more than my day's allotment of calories in one sitting. Good with the bad, right? The fries rock, but what rocks even more are the ketchup/dipping sauces. There's one that tastes like Indian food! I am a health nut, have a severe wheat allergy, and still I go to Bare Burger for my burger/frie and occasional milk shake fix as much as I can manage. BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME! Whether you're alone, on a date or with a group you will be ensured superiorly delicious food! So don't worry whether or not you like/love or are ambivalent towards your company because what you will be eating will compensate. It's like instant happiness I swear, so if your relationship needs a pick me up, try it out. The product is entirely organic and everything is fried in peanut oil. However I'm actually giving Bare Burger 5 stars for their excellence in management. They recently made a minor mistake in billing my CC twice, and the way the manager handled the potentially client losing conflict was seamless. It sealed my loyalty. The service isn't perfect, but it's close enough to get a 5/5 considering everything else. 4 stars just doesn't seem right. If they had Gluten Free beer I'd do free promo for them. read more

it is ok if you want to spend nearly $25 bucks per person (tax& tip included) for a burger deluxe -- basically. Burgers/Sandwichs are small to average in size. You have to order fries/ onions or salad separately. Everything tasted good and I really enjoyed sitting outside on a cool September night. However, I probably would never go back because i'm just not willing to accept this price point to eat a sandwich on a Queens side street. Suggestion: Drop the price to $10 bucks for your non specialty items ( beef, veggie, mushroom burgers and throw in some fries/ onion rings, a pickle and souffle cup of cabage slaw and this place would be a regular spot for me and I believe it could be the "Chipolte" of burgers - As it stands, in this economy, I wonder how long they will be around???
