We had visited BareBurger once before and were quite happy with the results, even though we did think it a tad overpriced. In any case we were back a second time. It was a thursday night and they were pretty busy. Waited a few minutes for a table to be cleared off. Once we were sat many a waiter passed by but no one stopped to drop off water or menus. Not even a single smile. We were completely disregarded. At one point I even made eye contact with the owner and still NOTHING!! My boyfriend was ready to walk out after 10 minutes of being ignored but I was really craving a burger. We waited another 5ish minutes. Still nothing! Finally I gave in and as we were getting ready to leave we noticed a couple being told it would be about 20 min for a table, as we got closer to the door the host saw us and cheerfully told the waiting couple that something had just opened up! I've eaten here every time I've visited ny, they serve salads, sandwiches and other things but they're specialty are burgers so I usually get a burger, and normally i have the big blue bacon or something, that burger is hella good! Sorry east coasters hella is west coast lingo but don't worry its a compliment when used before a word that's favorable, anyways the burger has blue cheese which i love and bacon which i think most people love. Today I decided to try the supreme which is also hella good, check out the ingredients for this burger there's lots inside. The onion rings are probably the best I've ever tasted and their signature sauces are really good too. This location has a pretty nice outdoor eating area in the back that's perfect for warm days, about the only thing that I'm not to crazy of is the sodas but I'm a hard core coke fiend and this is a place that serves organic food so I'm not very surprised, all in all I'd recommend it to burger lovers, definitely a place to try when you visit nyc and perhaps one day I'll be brave enough to try one of their exotic meats, and sorry but i was so hangry that i did not have a chance to take any pictures read more

I am so late to Bareburger it's not even funny! I live literally blocks away but after all these years with Bareburger now spreading throughout the city I finally checked it out. Well let's start with the layout. This place looks great! I like the design and how everything is set up. It all looks cozy and pleasing to the eye. They even have a small backyard too. Service was great. The waitress was happy to take our order and and was pleasant as well as knowledgeable. We ordered the onion rings/french fries combo for starts. In less than 5 minutes we had them! They were a huge portion enough for two people. They were served with like 4 or 5 sauces, bbq,chipotle and the rest I couldn't figure out but they were tasty. I had a Mint root Cola which is how Coke should taste. Now on to the burger. I ordered beef burger with,lettuce,tomato,cheddar cheese, and a chipotlish mayo dressing. Again we got our burgers quick. When the burger arrived I looked at it sideways and said WHERE'S THE BEEF?? The burger is not humungous folks! It's really the size of a whopper. I guess I got spoiled going to various trendy burger joints throughout the city...You know the Shake Shacks of the world. Then I took a bite and found it too be cold! The lettuce was so cold that it cooled the burger. I should have sent it back to be reheated but it was not worth it. I finished eating the burger in less than 2 minutes that even the waitress was surprised when she got back. Don't get me wrong the burger tasted good but I'm used to eating beefier burgers. Every time this place updates their menu, I update my review. I was very unhappy with their previous menu and I am so glad that they switched things around. Service in this place has never been an issue, they r on top of their things and everything rolls very smoothly. I do like the fact that kids meals now come with regular sized bun and slightly bigger patty. I wish they would still include carrot sticks with the kids meal. Moving on to burgers, I tried El Matador and I loved it.Instead of bun I had it in collard greens and it was a winner. And now moving on to the best thing ever, those brussels sprouts, OMG I could have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just make sure to tell them without lemon, because that lemon really overpowers taste of Brussels sprouts. Not sure how they even came up with that flavor combo, makes no sense. When it comes to salads I say skip it, I ordered one that comes with avocado and tortillas and for $15 it was such tasteless and uneventful salad. Man this place rocks. You can get 32 oz beers and a wide selection of meats for your burger. Its an organic and green restaurant. I love that about this place. The decor is really cool with recycled tableware and light decor. Not too much of a fan of the breed of cow they use. I find it lacks taste. Their Onion Rings are huge and cooked perfectly. I had an arugula and avocado salad which I felt needed something else to add punch. It was slightly bland. The shakes.....well they are great. And the prices are just right. I totally recommend this place for a good burger shake and fries experience. Service seems always busy so they can be a bit off and on. I think going on off peak hrs you won't complain. This was my third time here to pick up to go! I was being cheap today and ordered the hot dog! It was BURNT on one side and raw on the other! All three times the fresh buns seem to be day old or longer! For the price .... This place isn't worth it! It took ten minutes to get a hot dog put on a plain bun! I've had a lot better burgers. I have had a lot worse burgers also. I like the selection of exotic meats...love the options of Elk (delicious by the way) and others...Good beer selection...good atomsphere...the "organic" wine is pretty good also (what does that mean anyway....they don't feed the grapes processed food?) .... The only annoying thing is the hippies (yes, hippies, not "hipsters") go out of thier way to tell you how "organic" everything is....ie. "where is the bathroom?"...."walk past the organic wall through the organic hallway, past the organic elevators....don't forget to use the organic toilet paper!" this just confirmed that i will never go to another "organic" restaurant again. was deciding between Five Napkins Burger (which I had been to and liked) and this place. based on yelp reviews, i thought i would give this place a try. burgers: we ordered supreme burger (beef, medium rare), bbq western burger (elk, medium well) and bacon burger (bison, medium well). supreme burger was just all over the place without a theme or flavor. the beef was dry. there were so many things going on that i couldn't taste anything. it was probably the worst burger i ever had. as for bbq western burger, "everything --bread, cole slaw -- is perfect...except for the meat." same for bacon burger. sides: onion ring and fries combo. pretty good with good portion. unfortunately, it was the only thing that was edible on the table. drinks: banana milkshake and mandarin orange soda. both were disgustingly bad. the soda tasted like cold medicine with a strange aftertaste. unfortunately, even the tap water tasted like it was from the toilet. decor and service: fine and fine. very lively and friendly atmosphere; perfect place to hang out on a breezy sunny saturday afternoon. service was prompt, pleasant and professional. the best thing i could say after the meal was, "at least it was organic." not sure how they would compare to other organic burgers, but not even close to being in the same class with non-organic restaurants. sorry, bareburger. read more

If you like the menu, you'll like the food. Though beware, if you order a burger medium, you're gonna get it medium well/well. Order medium-rare and you'll get a properly cooked medium burger. Seeing as the draw is the quality of the meat, I would think they'd be serving this stuff up nice and bloody. Overall, the burgers, fries, salads, rings all are good but nothin special. First off, let me say: great food and great staff. Never had a bad experience with either at any of their locations. Here's the thing: my last visit I asked for separate checks. The waitress forgot and put it all on one. No biggie. Me and my friend decided to just split the check down the middle. When I checked my account, I noticed they had charged me both my half of the check as well as the ENTIRE amount of the check. When I called and asked why this happened, the manager (who was very nice) said it's a problem they've had in the past where, when a check is split, the first card they run gets charged for the entire amount as well as the 50% of the total bill. He mentioned it would be credited back to my account (as it was pending) in 2-3 business days. It was and all is well but just a word to the wise: don't split the check at Bare Burger (at least until they get their system fixed). read more

Two years ago I would have given Bare Burger on 31st Ave a 5 star review. Unfortunately, each time we've visited this year, the experience declines and we leave disappointed. I feel like it may be a result of their expansion and maybe they don't give as much TLC in terms of quality and customer service anymore to this location. The burgers used to be amazing, cooked perfectly to order, and the service while spotty was always good enough to keep us coming back. We are local to the neighborhood and have probably eaten here over 20 times. We would always bring visiting family and friends here and rave about how great it was. However our most recent visit last Saturday night may be our last for a while. The customer service has really declined. The teenage hostess gave us an attitude when we asked to be seated at a different table than the one she pointed us to (which was right near the door, drafty and with everyone pushing past to get in and out)... it wasn't too busy at the time and there were plenty of free tables, so not sure what that was about. We then sat down and ordered a pitcher of beer, which came to us totally flat and (I'm pretty sure) skunked. It tasted awful and we've ordered the same beer many times before. Again got an attitude from another server and our waitress when I politely explained the problem and asked if we could switch it out for a different type of beer. We're in here all the time, spend good money in this place and have never once asked to send anything back, so that was annoying. Then on to the burgers... I always order the bison which is normally really juicy and cooked perfectly. This time it was dry, the burger itself was a total mess on the plate and I could hardly pick it up. Not to mention everything was lukewarm. This is just one of an accumulation of mediocre experiences at this Bare Burger in recent months. It's a shame. How do people not like Bareburger? It has something for EVERYONE! Farmer's quinoa patty is amazing for the vegetarians in your life! Beef is great! A friend of mine once had some bizarre meat like Ostrich or something and it was GREAT! Once I had a salad - AMAZING! I've been to at least four different Bareburger locations, and they're all stellar, but this is my local Bareburger so I'll review them. It's an expensive burger. Once you order a burger + fries + tax + tip you're easily looking at $20 a person. But it's sustainably-raised, organic when possible, creative and delicious. So that's okay with me. The salads are fantastic but in my opinion they are overpriced (like $11-15 for an average-sized salad with no protein), so unfortunately I won't be having one anytime soon. When I'm feeling poor but still need my Bareburger fix, I'll buy a kids meal and no one ever looks at my adult self funny. Once I had brunch here and it was crazy good, and totally reasonably priced considering the portion sizes. I've heard the milkshakes are the best, and they sure do look good, but as I don't want my very lactose-intolerant body to implode, I won't be having one anytime soon (vegan milkshakes! vegan milkshakes! subliminal messaging!). Service can be a bit slow, but it's always friendly and I'm not ever in too big of a hurry. Plus I usually get take-out which is super fast! Delivery is $15 and as a single lady who is budget-conscious I typically only buy a burger which is not $15 and make my own fries at home, so I'm stuck with take-out. It's alright, I literally live two blocks away so I think I can handle it. I would avoid Seamless though. They're very slow with fulfilling Seamless orders for some reason. Just call them or order on their website. So, in conclusion, I love this place. There's a couple of little annoying things (detailed below) but these little nit-picky things won't kill my 5-star rating. They have a lunch special (eat-in only), which I haven't tried, but seems like a decent deal if you like your burger actually totally bare. Wish it included an upgrade option for a burger that's not totally plain, or let me elect to not have a soda and instead get a modest burger upgrade or was generally more flexible for those of us who don't drink soda and like a couple of toppings on our burgers. I'd probably actually eat there a lot for lunch if this was the case. But that's a tiny thing. But hey managers, fix this and I'll see you at lunch! You can upgrade your lunch special to include a specific beer for like $3 or something, which is pretty neat. And my only service critique is that sometimes they can be a bit nickel-and-dimey about sauce substitutions. For example my regular burger comes with plain mayo but I like a spicier mayo, so they charge me $.55 to upgrade. I'm alright with that - my choice, I want a fancier mayo. But the kids meal I get comes with ranch, and I'm super lactose intolerant so ranch will actually just make me very sick. And I'm not really crazy about paying extra because I'm intolerant of their only included option. The first couple times they charged me for the upgrade, but once I explained that ranch doesn't work for me because I am extremely lactose intolerant, they stopped charging me the $.55 for the upgrade. I mean, listen, it's $.55 so I'm not gonna throw a fit if they want to charge me. But I just thought it was an amazing example of Bareburger's fantastic customer service that when I explained my sensitivity they gave me the sauce upgrade gratis. Seriously, it's the little things.
