This place was an unexpected gem. I generally assume hotel restaurants will be overpriced for their quality, but this place delivered. We had the buratta and the carrot salad. Bargello has Asheville's best cacio e pepe. This deceptively simple dish (I know -- I've tried and failed to make it properly a number of times) uses just four or five items -- pasta, peppercorns, Pecorino and/or Parmesan Reggiano cheese, olive oil and salt. Prepared properly, it is wonderful, and that's exactly how it is a Bargello, the Hotel Arras' main restaurant. Bargello (pronounced bar-jello) uses a thick spaghetti. The menu says bucatini, which has a small hole in the oversize spaghetti strands. (Some use spaghettoni, a large spaghetti without the hole, instead.) This is absolutely the best cacio e pepe ($17) in Western North Carolina and better than some I've had in Roma. Our first course was seafood -- the grilled octopus with apple and fennel salad and charred potatoes ($16), which makes an excellent starter or antipasto. With my cacio e pepe my companion had the Maiale pizza ($16, personal size) from the brick hearth oven. This was fine, but not exceptional. We wouldn't come back for the pizza. The high-ceiling dining room is pleasant, and service on a fairly slow night was excellent. Our cocktails and wine were good. Cocktails were mostly $12 to $15, with wine by the glass from $9, local craft beers $7. The tab for two including tax and tip came to about $135. read more

We had an amazing dinner at Bargello. They were so sweet and accommodating to our 11 month old baby. Steph, our server, was so kind, wonderful, and attentive to us. She made a great dinner very special by giving us excellent service. The food was delicious! We enjoyed everything we ordered, especially the Halloumi Salad, Scallops and Ravioli. It's located right in the center of downtown Asheville. The ambiance is spectacular. The bar and restaurant have about a 30' ceiling giving this place an enormous feel. A very upscale restaurant, you'll be impressed with the service. We had a server named "Hunter" and we were relentless, all night. His service was impressive and the food was to match. I had the ribs, which were all meat, with no bone. Truly unique. Everything was excellent, right down to their fresh coffee and their desserts. A definite must go if you want quality food. read more

Bargello is a beautiful restaurant, and we have been twice and had great service both times. The menu is small, and not a lot of options for a vegetarian. When we visited for brunch, the portions were large, but when we asked for a mimosa, they were unable to give us one because the bar wasn't open yet. This was at 11:30 on a Friday morning. Bottom line is you can't find better food in Asheville. I have been here for seven years and the food here was absolutely exquisite. The staff were so accommodating to my food allergies and made sure my family and I had an excellent evening. The trout was full of flavor and the lentils were unlike anything I have ever tasted. I also tried my boyfriends pasta - the steak on it must have been marinated for days. Sooooo yummy. Not a lot of people seem to know about this place so we had almost the whole restaurant to ourselves! This restaurant is located inside of the Kimpton Hotel Arras. Since we were staying at the hotel - we decided to give it a try and ordered the dish Bucatini Cacio E Pepe with chicken for take out. The pasta itself was overall good and creamy but the chicken was what made this dish so unappetizing... Not sure if it was accidentally burnt but the taste was of some kind of charcoal. I want to give this review 4 stars for the pasta but that chicken hopefully next time we stay here I can explore more of the menu and maybe a different meat choice. read more

This is a nice spot. It's modern, light, airy and takes social distancing very seriously. It's a great place to go for an evening meal as the fall weather starts to herald a distinct chill in the air. The service was pleasant and speedy...Angela was everywhere and while it seemed the place was a little short staffed, she managed superlatively. We ordered drinks, then a Mezze Plate each. This was a wonderful collection of finely prepared veggies and hummus, served with hot pita bread and a local lace gingersnap cracker. It was a great start to the meal. We had eaten a large lunch and decided to share a main course. We opted for the locally made pasta, cacio e pepe, which was alfredo in style and thoroughly enjoyable. We ended the meal with an apple and miso sundae and a brownie sundae. Both were good, but lacked the greatness of that which preceded it. The menu is a little sparse, but that may be as a result of Covid 19. We will certainly be back during our next Ashevllle visit. It's a great town made better by places such as Bargello. read more

Just got married and my husband and I are staying at the Arras Hotel where Bargello is located. It was late and we needed a quick bite so we shared the burger. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS It's so totally hard to impress my husband but even he loved it. My husband took me here for Mother's Day Brunch and it was so excellent. Everyone had something they enjoyed. Plus, staff and management were really patient with us when it was too windy for the kids outside. The decor is super cute and stylish. Upon entering, the host was incredibly friendly and cheery which made for a nice welcome and good start to the visit. The atmosphere was light and airy, which made for a pleasant morning as I went to this place for a mid-morning brunch. The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful-- there was not a bad dish in sight! The sandwiches looked to-die-for and the cappuccino was one of the best I've had. The eggs Florentine consisted of one of the best English muffins I've had a tomato compote that was packed with flavor. The short rib hash was well seasoned, hearty, and comforting. As a sweet finish, the doughnut holes were exactly what the meal needed. I loved how the doughnut holes were slightly sweet but had a bitter and salty finish that provided a good balance of flavor. The breakfasts here are amazing. Large portions, served piping hot. I had the Garden Omelette (both days) and my husband had French Toast. The breakfast potatoes are crisp with a little spice and when you substitute for fruit, you get a cereal bowl full of fresh berries and oranges. This is an awesome choice! I enjoyed my meal here. I came in June during COVID. Staff was friendly, helpful, and super cautious to follow safety regulations. I had previously written a review for Bargello. It was my first time being there, and I had a lovely experience. But the test of a great restaurant is consistency. I went with a few friends on New Years Eve to celebrate there. What a different experience! Yes, it's never good to judge a place on a holiday night, but besides the food being sub par (main course sent back twice!!!),...and there being lulls between courses...we were out to celebrate the new year.. We didn't end up eating our food together! You can't have one in the party keep waiting to eat their meal because you're still waiting on the kitchens' try #2 Some guy came over to apologize for the problem, and claimed they would get it right, but the second time around was just as bad. I brought this to the attention of my server and the manager, and was told they would discount the meals. Wow! A 5 star restaurant itemizing the problem to discount a portion of the meal! That totally floored me. I felt like I was at a local chain restaurant. As I said, it was New Years eve...I can understand problems arising from trying to stay ontop of it all....but, when a customer sends back their meal 2 's ....AND by this time after waiting so long...are NO LONGER wanting to eat. (It was almost 11PM (our reservations were at 8:45!) You do something to make the situation right. Discounting the check was a sorry answer. And, as is the case with bad experiences, the restaurant that we had admired a few weeks ago, lost its charm. I'm an Asheville local and was looking forward to the opening of Bargello, the main restaurant in the new Arras Hotel. We decided to give it try for lunch. Our experience, to say the least, was disappointing. The octopus fritters were the big problem. They were fine (not great) until my wife discovered a hair cooked into the middle of the fritter she was eating. The waitress took the offending hair to the manager who offered to give us another serving of fritters. We declined. They did, however, take the fritters off our bill. On our way out, my wife said she was never eating octopus again. And we won't be going back to Bargello again. read more

This restaurant is in the Kimpton hotel Arras. I've allways been fond of Kimpton properties since they tend to bring in elements from the cities in which they are nestled. See the leaf feature from the lobby. I wanted to try this place since it has a connection to Posana which is 1 of my favs in Asheville. We shared 4 items-3 off the For the Table starters & 1 woodfired pizza. All 4 arrived at once which was surprising. The warm beets stole my heart and were definitely the star. The fried chicken piccata was tiny, mediocre & within 30 seconds the polenta became glue. The meatballs were mixed inconsistently although the grilled rustic bread that was served alongside was dynamite. It had much more flavor than the soggy pizza slices. Sadly this was, in fact, a hotel restaurant and just didn't knock my socks off. It was also $100!!TIP: right now they are offering Australian wines to aid bushfire relief.
