I am very disappointed in this restaurant, I would not recommend this restaurant any more to anyone. Bunch of CHEATERS and I agree with one star reviews below. This restaurant can not be trusted. If you do big parties in this restaurant you have to closely watch what is served and count each portions otherwise you will be cheated and blamed that you did not pay enough. Usually in the expensive place you expect honesty and decency. If as a client you are not happy you will be ignored. I do not think they will survive with this kind of attitude. I just ate at this restaurant and WOW. Where do I start, 1. My friends husband just passed away and she decided to host the reception at this restaurant. The owner charged her for 50 people when only 43 people were there. He wouldn't give her a number before the dinner he said I will give you a quote at the end and then decided to over charge her. A woman who just lost her Husband. Absolutely horrible. 2. I saw a waitress in the bathroom as I was walking in and she went straight from the toilet out of the door. Skipped the whole wash your hands thing. Seriously? Disgusting. 3. They were rushing us out of there. They served dessert 2 minutes after they brought the main course. I haven't had much Russian food in my life, but the food here is spectacular! We are talking about full-flavored dishes. I wouldn't consider anything to be a filler. Every bite was a transportation to savory, sweet, textured, and slightly bitter experiences. The service was good. My server made great recommendations and was very polite. He served the meals as soon as they were ready, which insured hot and fresh food. From where I was sitting though, he was pretty far away, and didn't check on me too often. Thank god the food didn't need anything! The location is a trip! Considering how close it is to my place, I would never have found it. It's tucked away in the corner of a strip mall that doesn't seem to boast anything out of the ordinary. Once you step inside, you know you are going to have an experience. Check out the pictures. The wood and brick are insulating, and the stage area adds a sense of fun and entertainment. This place isn't cheap, but the food is great, and very well balanced. Spicy, but not too much. Bitter, but complimented with creamy goodness. Savory, but accompanied with tart sweetness. Lunch is your best bet! Came here for a baby shower celebration in the banquet room. I didn't have a chance to experience the restaurant component of it, but I walked through a couple of times and got a pretty good sense of it. However, this review will focus on the banquet component and some restaurant things. Food here is delicious, as would be expected from a Russian restaurant. Lots of options to select from based on your budget. Table was prepared on time and as expected. They had a TV up on the wall that was showing Russian music videos along with some speakers spread out the room playing Russian music. Servers were attentive, replaced plates timely, moved things around on the table to make all dishes fit and over all were helpful if anything was requested ADHOC. Only issues I had were: a) The soda was flat. No bubbles, zero. b)Warm dishes were served slightly warm at best. Fries were cold. c) Music/speaker volume was way to loud, so loud that it was distorting when someone spoke over the microphone. d) Parking is not an easy task here. Limited in space during big events or busy times. The restaurant part had nice ambiance, lights were dim, music playing and live music. From the looks of it, people were enjoying themselves and having a good time. Right outside the front door is a covered patio with chairs and tables, mostly for the smokers to go out and have a smoke break. If you're interested, there is a Russian grocery store, right next door for all of your home needs. I believe it's the same owner as the Barin. Great place. Lots of fun. Good vibes overall. The only reason I'm giving a 1 star is because I can't give a zero, and the food didn't make me sick... unlike the service and the owner. Having been to Russian restaurants since I was a child, I've been to just about all in the Los Angeles area and San Fernando Valley. I'm appalled. We came under unfortunate circumstances. We just got done laying my uncle to rest. His wife is not in a good place, obviously. When she originally called she told him roughly how many ppl but that she really wont know who will make it to a funeral and the lunch till day off. Rather than being a decent, respectful human being, the owner charged my newely widowed aunt for the estimated amount of ppl they discussed, rather than the actual amount that they served. Everyone knows that there's no RSVP to funerals. Any Russian restaurant owner should be accommodating of this, traditionally we go to have a meal together after a funeral. We had 45 ppl and he charged for 60. That's a lot of money for a women who just buried the love of her life. The least he could have done was charge for the people he served. We've unfortunately been to several funerals in the past couple years and no restaurant owner has ever done this. Wish we would have chosen a different place. If you're going to come here, get an exact quote in writing. DO NOT TRUST HIS WORD. Oh, and the food was really nothing special. If the owner wants to make this right, feel free to reach out to me. After 2 failed attempts to come to Barin and enjoy a nice normal dinner with my husband, I will definitely not ever be coming back. Let me explain why. Our first failed attempt was when we both arrived in nice semi-formal attire but my husband happened to not be wearing all black dress shoes. We were told "Sorry you can't eat here unless you are wearing dress shoes". We totally thought it was a joke. We both looked formally dressed and yet they rejected having us pay them for dinner because one of us didn't have the right shoes? I have never experienced this in my life, even at restaurants much much nicer than this (and by the way, the restaurant is mediocre looking at best). So we were forced to leave with an empty stomach. After reading such good reviews on yelp, we decided it might be worth a second try. Again we got dressed very nicely, this time with my husband wearing dress shoes, only to arrive at the restaurant being told that they have a $35 minimum for orders that night. Nowhere was this mentioned on the website. The owner (I think?) told us that we should have made reservations, but also nowhere on the website does it say reservations are necessary or even recommended. There were six open tables and yet they would not budge and let us just sit down and order what we want. Again I have never experienced this at any other restaurant. On top of this, the restaurant is not all that attractive, and definitely not where you would typically want to take a date or spouse. Very tacky disco lights are on all the time. It's in a dark run down strip mall. It's hard to even tell which is the entrance to the restaurant. The sign for the restaurant is amazingly cheesy. Once we were inside we were never greeted with a smile. Overall it seemed like they are not interested in attracting new customers. I almost did not want to review this place... It is that good, and from the number of existing reviews (1), generally unknown. This was the first time I had visited a Russian restaurant, and really did not know what to expect. Walking in, I felt like I was transported from Tarzana to a Russian disco hall in Siberia. The interior of the restaurant feels cavernous, with tall wood ceilings, long dark wood tables, and a disco ball. That's right, a disco ball. I believe people often rent the restaurant for private parties... Who am I kidding, I can't justify the disco ball. But now on to the service and food. Our waiter seemed like a nice guy; and by that I mean a card carrying member of the KGB. Seriously, I could not help thinking of Viggo Mortensen from the movie Eastern Promises. I kept hoping the kitchen door would open and I would see him chopping up a body or shoving a human leg in the meat grinder. Okay, this is obviously in fun; I have no reason to believe this restaurant is in any way affiliated with the KGB. But you never know, tip well to be safe. Ignoring my delusional thoughts of violence, the overall service was just okay. Our waiter disappeared for long periods of time, resulting in the meal lasting too long for a weekday work lunch. Now to the important part, the food. It was amazing!!! The bread that was served before the meal was hearty and quite tasty. Five of us ordered Borsch, but apparently they just started cooking the soup and only had two servings ready. So we split it family style, and it was delicious. The two servings were actually more than enough for the five of us. For the main course, I chose the Chicken Kiev. My coworker told me on the drive over that this dish was actually a chicken breast filleted, wrapped around a stick of butter, then breaded and fried. I laughed, thinking there was no way any place would put that much butter (an entire stick?) in a chicken breast. Well, my coworker was not lying. I cut into the chicken, and literally butter gushed onto the plate from the breast. Sounds gross? It was amazing! Most of the butter drains out, it is not absorbed, and the result is a delicious, tender breast of chicken. It was truly excellent. Also on the plate were perfectly steamed vegetables and french fries. You know a meal is good when you are full half way through, in pain near the end, and yet you persevere and finish your plate. It was a struggle, but I would not be denied. I would highly recommend coming here. Work out before hand, and wear your nicest pair of pants with a stretchy waist band. I would like to come back here for dinner, and go all out. I have never had Caviar, but I hope to come here and enjoy some in the near future. Washed down with a few shots of Vodka of course. =) Barin is closed on Sunday and Monday I believe, and Tuesday seems to be when they start food prep for the week. We had the Russian feast -- and what a spread. They served enough food for 12 people even though our party was only four. The food was excellent as was the service and the entertainment. This was an interesting and very good experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant. Upon arrival, we were seated at a table covered with platters of hors d'oeuvres - various fresh and pickled vegetables, smoked fish of several varieties, a large baked fish dish, marinated mushrooms, smoked eel, eggplant roulades, etc -- enough for a large army. Over the course of the evening they brought additional dishes -- lamb chops, special potatoes, grilled meats and chicken, crepes with caviar, julien. A bit hard to get in... as they seem to be closed a LOT... but if you book in advance - it's fine. It's very "Russian" ... obviously - a lot of Russian Atmosphere , that I loved. Everyone there were Russian - they spoke only Russian... there was a live Russian band... so if you're into that - it's a Great Authentic place as you feel like you're in Russia :) The food itself was GREAT... no questions about that. The meat , the soups... everything was very well done , according to Russian tradition. I don't know the Chef but tasting his food - I can guarantee you he's a REAL Russian :) I loved it but it's not for everyone. We went there 3 times - all times it was VERY loud... so loud we couldn't really talk. So don't take anyone there on a first date or something... as you will need to shout all evening... not cool. We have celebrated many birthdays and other special occasions at this restaurant. It is a little more pricier than other Russian restaurants but their food is definitely top notch. We have always ordered off their banquet menu and have been more than pleased with their food. They have many seafood dishes on their menu, along with all the Russian staples. Everything is absolutely amazing. Now the waiters can come off a bit rude but that is a given at any European restaurant. It's nothing personal, that's just how it is. They also have live music at night which is great during our family events. I haven't been here in a good year or two so I will definitely be checking them out in the near future. read more

There is a lot to like about this place, but a couple of things knock it down a star or two. The food is generally nice. The raviolis are okay and the Russian bread (sour rye?) is delicious. The borscht was not to our taste, although it may be authentic. The entrees are okay if a little pricey. Lamb chops were good as was the beef stew. The headliner here is the Chicken Kiev, which is hard to find in LA. Frankly, it was a major disappointment. It should be light and moist, but here it was like a large baseball or softball and the coating/breading is hard and inedible. The chicken meat inside was somewhat tough and overall not worth the calories. The service is well meaning but inept.* Our party of eight was served in two installments about 15 minutes apart. So the people who got served first had to wait while their food sat and got cold while the others waited awkwardly for their meals. We speculated that the waiter dropped the second tray in the kitchen but in any event there was no explanation or apology offered by the manager, nor any free dessert or adjustment to the bill as you might expect for a lapse such as this which essentially ruined the dining experience. From what I am told, this is not unusual in Russian establishments. Maybe they are still in the Soviet mindset that you're lucky they even have meat so don't complain! The exterior appearance is deceptive. It looks like a dump, situated in a mini mall next to a grocery store. However, the premises are very nice once you are inside. The room is elegantly furnished, although the laser disco lights are somewhat vulgar, especially as they are on all the time, even when the band/disco is not yet set up. We arrived at opening time (8 pm) and the music didn't start until around 9 pm. The music was good but much too loud. It's almost impossible to have a conversation once they get started. They also dim the lights so you can't really see what you're eating that well. The restrooms are clean and nicely decorated. They did not appear to have a liquor license (that might have changed). The tables were set up with nice wine and cordial glasses (for the hard stuff), so bring your own bottles of wine and whiskey, brandy and of course vodka. There is a liquor store two doors away if you forget. I really wanted to like this place. If the Chicken Kiev had been good and the service better organized then this would have easily been a three-star or four-star review. We have been going to this restaurant for many many years and it was always a pleasure. We would always refer our friends and family to that restaurant, until I celebrated my BD there last week. I do not want to blame anyone for a lost bottle of a very expensive whiskey even though it was gone while we were on a dance floor. To my question on where is that bottle the"wonderful" waitress tells us we funished it and now blame them for stealing it from the table" She also said the guy who was drinking it stole it himself and now we try to make it a big deal!!! Nice hah? The guy brought this bottle himself ( he only drinks that particular one)and liberally had one shot of it before it was gone. Not sure what that waitress name is but, she needs to learn some manners, especially when she works with clients. I am in customer service myself for many years and would never act like that. We went to Barin's for dinner and dancing, we had an amazing time. The food and service is absolutely perfect. They perform music like you would find in any good restaurant in Russia. A singer with a DJ playing the music, it was so much fun. LIke I said, I have been to many places like this in Russia, and you will not be disappointed. We had almost everything on the menu and it was very good, we came with our own bottles of vodka and ended up staying until they closed. We will return soon. read more

Barin is one of my favored places to eat. Food is very yammy,music is nice,servers are nice to. The best day is to be there is a last Thursday of a month. You only pay $25 per person and enjoying all you can eat+a great music. It from 8pm till 2am. You can bring your own alcohol+don't have to super dress up.
