It was very crowded. We had to wait in line for 15-20 min. It was our first time in Boston and we wanted to try local food. We ordered a dozen of oysters, crab dip, and clam chowder for appetizer. Crab dip was good, but I was disappointed at the chowder. I can only taste 1 clam and all the rest was potatoes. Oysters were fresh but very small. We also ordered seafood pasta, warm lobster roll and cold crab roll. Pasta was good with a white fish filet on top, but the lobster rolls (2) had very little filling for the price and the crab roll we also ordered was watery. Overall, I think this was not the best choice.
I read so many mixed reviews but their menu look like we'd have a lot of options as we only have one day in Boston and wanted to eat everything. Luckily, there were four of us so we did order a lot so we could taste a little bit of everything and we were not disappointed. Lobster roll , clam chowder , fish and chips , clam strips , crab cakes , oysters and more fried seafood . The only thing that was just OK with the crab cakes other than that everything was delicious. Service was very attentive and prompt. It's located in the Seaport area. A very casual atmosphere, love all the cool and funny signage.

(Snow crabs: $64) The restaurant seems to rely heavily on its waterfront location and tourist traffic rather than delivering memorable seafood. Boston has many seafood restaurants that offer fresher, more flavorful dishes at more reasonable prices. I would not recommend Barking Crab and would encourage visitors to explore other local seafood options instead.
Prob the best food I had when I visiting Boston. It ain't cheap at $47 for a lobster roll, but the meat was sweet, very filling, and really enjoyed every $ bite. The fried clams reminds of Hanks Oyster Bar in DC/NoVa. It was perfectly fried and plump and delicious. No complaints about the food :) Our waiter was good and came back often to see how we were doing. So good service and liked the view into the river and had a nice walk after lunch along the waterfront. It's what I imagined a good lobster shack would look like. The parking garages nearby ain't cheap either paying I think $44 for two hours. Yikes!
Their vegetarian options are EXTREMELY limited. I had a side of jasmine rice (mid, how can it really be messed up though. Unseasoned) and coleslaw (exceptionally heavy on the dressing). Atmosphere is circus meets ziplock bag. Fish smells all around. Part of the reason why I did not order the seafood... I will not be back soon. Signs everywhere are funny (the customer is always right except management decides who's a customer... requests to lower the music will not be listened to it's not your living room etc) but the restaurant doesn't back any of this up with service or food.

We were looking for a place to have a good lobster roll while spending the night in Boston for a flight the next day. The Barking Crab fit the bill with great views, bar vibes, delicious food, and personal service. I could see how this would be a packed place in the summer as locals look to sit outdoors by the water and soak up the sun. The 4 stars is purely because it was SO expensive. We ordered the Pan-Seared Jumbo Scallops, Shrimp & Lobster Tail dish which came with a lemon buerre blanc sauce, asparagus, and roasted fingerling potatoes. It was $55 for each dish. My friend got the lobster roll with french fries and it was $42, so we felt like this was a deal. We stopped by fairly late on a Monday night and were seated right away. There were enough people still there that we felt like the food would be good, and it was. Started with a Sam Adams beer and pinot grigio, both served in plastic cups. And a bowl of lobster bisque. My biggest complaint is that the silverware was plastic...when i'm paying $200 for a meal for 3, I would like to eat of of some kind of stronger material...instead we had to use our fingers. Note that there was not street parking nearby and 1 hour in the nearest garage was $42, which was absolutely astronomical and would make it hard for me to justify returning if I needed to park. Overall, the food was worth the hassle and we chalked it up to an experience while in Boston.
The Barking Crab is an iconic classic in Fort Point. The views, the vibes, the food, consistent service and sometimes the attitude all make for an amazing Boston experience. In the summer, it has beautiful views of the city. In the winter, the antique seating area heated by a wood stove create a tuly unique experience. I've been taking people from out of town for over 25 years, and it is always a highlight. It is a wonderful for a few drinks, appetizers and a light very casual meal. When we first starting going to the Barking Crab when the neighboring Moakley Courthouse was just being built, and the restaurant was an oasis in the middle of empy parking lots and semit abandoned buildings. It is now a quaint little place in canyon of gleaming buildings spanning high tech, financial, bio tech and consulting companies. For this past visit, we stopped by on a Thursday late afternoon (4 Sep 25) after dropping our daughter at Logan. Solid choice of draft beer including local favorites. Started with Harpoon IPA and my wife a glass - plastic cup - of wine. It's part of the zen of the crab. Had a dozen fresh clams that were served quickly followed by 3 nicely done crab cakes and an appetizer portion of friend clams that were sweet, fresh and crispy. A few beers or glasses of wine, fresh seafood and beautiful views of Boston on a warm end of summer day. Nothing better.
A classic tourist favorite--fun atmosphere, but you're definitely paying for the location and vibe rather than top-tier food. We came on a Monday around 5:30pm and luckily didn't have to wait, but it gets very busy during peak hours, so plan accordingly if you hate long lines. The vibe is great--a lively, casual spot right by the water with a "dining-on-a-boat" feel, which adds to the experience. That said, the food is getting more pricey and just okay. You can definitely find better and cheaper seafood around Boston if you're here for the food rather than the fun.
This spot was packed and had a line out the door for lunch. I've never had a lobster roll so of course we had to get one on the last day of this trip. We really wanted to sit by the water but got seated in the front area. We asked Bryan if we could move by the water and he made it work!! Thank you!! We had such a fun time, the lobster was amazinggg and we loved the ambiance. Great service!
What a great spot for a meal in Boston! First of all, the location is top tier. Situated over the water between seaport (where you can access it) and downtown, it's hard to imagine a better spot for a New England seafood joint. It's busy, it's loud, it has garish decor, and it's a whole lotta fun. I also quite enjoyed my food! The clam strip roll was delicious. Pricey, sure. But you're in Boston so you can't get around it. The sweet potato fries were a killer, too. I'd go back just for those. Service was also super quick, which was surprising given how busy it was. Now once the food was dropped off we didn't really see much of our waitress, but other than water we didn't need much more.

Came here to experience a lobster roll and this place looked fun. The lobster roll was tasty and fresh! Super solid. Also got their chicken sandwich and that thing was seasoned so well! Both were home runs. Service was fast and friendly. This is a fun place inside. You could find families in there, work colleagues, you name it and it's close to the water. read more

Food is trash and overpriced The fried clams...$18 for 5 "full bellied pieces" . Translation...5 pieces of clam with the for $18. The lobster sandwich was the worst lobster sandwich I've ever had. The bread was inedible and the slaw mix did not but make it more bitter. The slaw tasted like sysco and the fries did to for $42. The clam chowder is forgettable. The service was fast and friendly though. So points for that. If you like a Joe's Crabshack vibe, hate money, and don't know good food. You'll be fine here read more

Stopped here for lunch on our first day visiting Boston. Loved the vibe inside! We split the fish and chips and clam chowder, both were great and so glad we shared because we left stuffed. Would definitely go back again! read more

This place was packed! But we did t wait too long to be seated. Very very loud. Our server was awesome. Crab cakes were good and fried shrimp platter was also good. However whomever thinks one little lemon wedge for 8 big shrimp is sufficient is mistaken. And $35 for a fried shrimp platter is a bit overpriced, especially when I couldn't substitute the slaw for corn. Food came out super fast. read more
The bar had a good selection of draft beers. Since we were in Boston, I felt like I had to get a Samuel Adams. Beer was fresh and cold. We ordered lobster rolls. The lobster rolls were just OK. The ambience is sort of dive bar-ish. Service was good felt a little rushed. If you want a better lobster roll for the same price go to the Saltie Girl. Lobster rolls at the bar crab do not have a lot of lobster in the bun. It's mostly on top of the bun. read more
I visited barking crab on a Friday evening. My friend's mom from New Hampshire recommended this spot so I could try a lobster roll for the first time. There weren't many other customers when we arrived, so we were seated promptly. I also appreciated the festive decorations they had up for the holiday season. I ordered the cold, Maine-style lobster roll, while my friend got the hot, Connecticut-style lobster roll. She let me try hers, & both were delicious. I'd love to visit again! read more
I really liked the Barking Crab (went twice during our trip) but I'm always partial to a crab / lobster shacks located next to the water. If you happen to go during peak hours, the line can be daunting but it moves really fast. In the heat of the summer, the heat can be a little overwhelming so warning you now. For drinks we stuck to beers and for food, the lobster roll of course and crab cakes! read more
Really cute "crab shack" located on the water with warm inviting lighting inside. Casual and cute at the same time. Great crab cakes! The mussels were very tender served in a white wine broth that was on the garlicky side. Plenty of great seafood options for very reasonable prices. Bartenders were very friendly. read more

This is a must in Boston fish and chips wer amazing & Lobster was delicious with the side of oysters. Overall the food was fire fire fire. The services is good. Long lines but it moves pretty quick. Amazing decor and great lay out and awesome views of the Boston harbor. read more

Food was pretty good. Enjoyed lobster roll, kids Mac n cheese, fish sandwich and oysters. Good beer and drink selection. We ordered the clam platter and I guess we expected strips and we weren't a fan of the full size clams. Other than that loved the casual bite in the water. It made our Boston trip. read more

Small eclectic vibe. My group was seated next to the wood burning stove and although it wasn't lit up, I can imagine this place being pretty cozy on a cold winter day. Little rainy injury outside, but the vibe inside was upbeat with Christmas lights hanging from the ceiling as well as old-school tunes playing overhead. Ordered the naked lobster roll market price was $42 today and I had that with the fries. Also ordered some brussels sprouts on the side. The naked lobster roll has chunks of warm lobster with butter on the roll, whereas the traditional has the cold chunks of lobster on a roll is like a lobster salad. The sandwich was good and the fries basic. The start of the show were the incredible Brussel Sprouts. A blend of boiled, sautéed and pan-fried. Not sure how they were prepared exactly, but they were tasty! All in all a great Boston experience and from what I've heard, we lucked out without having to wait for a table at all. Not clear on how market prices fluctuates, so the price seemed a little steep. That was the only thing preventing that fifth star. David was a kind server and the food service was quick. If you are looking for an authentic local experience be sure to give this place a try. read more
Food is fantastic. Lobster and crab are at Market prices. This sits on the wharf and is very casual outdoors type of place. I had the scallops with French Fries. It was some of the best scallops I have ever had. The wait staff was prompt no separate allowed. No substitutions on Cole slaw. Overall, great place read more
If you want a great lobster roll in a prime location by the water, Barking Crab is the place! I love the clam chowder, the lobster rolls and of course the beers. We came on a cold, rainy day in April and it got us excited for summer. Since it was cold, I had the warm roll, but in the summer I like a cold one. It was still busy there even though it wasn't nice out, service was great and quick! read more
We walked in without a reservation on a Sat night and added our names to the waitlist. Luckily a table became available within 45 minutes, otherwise we would have missed the opportunity to experience this restaurant. Where to start? Ambience is that of a seaside seafood restaurant but in a city in winter. Service was a tad bit slow but our waitress was friendly and chatty whenever she made an appearance. Food was superb and this is why the wait, slow service and drinking an Aperol Spritz from a plastic cup didn't matter. It is the kind of restaurant that you will visit every time you're in town. Excellent lobster dishes and the best fish and chips. The view if you're lucky like we were was picturesque. read more

This place is filled with racist. I would never go back here. The service was very sad because of which I did not want to tip, and that apparently was not okay with the servers like what rights did they have to tell me anything about tipping they should learn their job first. Apart from this, the ambience was really good, but the food sucked. It's very bland. read more

A fun tourist trap. Had an appetizer of the fried belly clams. They were delicious, but the portion size was meager at best. 8 tiny clams for $28. Good views. A nice spot next to the water. Just be prepared for crazy overpriced menu and tiny portions. read more

Wow! This is the place right here! If you're looking for the views and that old crab shack type place that's still "safe", this is the place! This was the first place I went to in Boston so my expectations were high! The food was actually pretty excellent. Had to get the New England Clam Chowder! It might be the best I've ever had. Went with the shrimp basket too which was delicious! Exactly what I wanted! The service was also quick and excellent. I went at a slow time which probably helped, but the lady helping me was great! If this place has any "downside", it's the price. Everything is a bit overpriced, likely for the tourist. Hey, I'm a tourist so I guess I can't complain. The food and views were great so I am willing to spend a little extra for the experience! Lots of fun! I get this place is even more awesome in the summer! Loved everything about it! read more

The Barking Crab is my friends' go to spot when they head to the Boston Children's Museum. It's a super casual location with a large deck patio. We got there just before it opened and got in relatively quickly upon opening. They are very family friendly. We got a clam bake, crab cakes, calamari and fish n chips. The clambake comes with a whole lobster, mussels and clams, potato and an ear of corn. Not for those who don't like to get messy. The service is super fast and very attentive. While a bit touristy and pricey, enjoyed the food and experience overall. read more
Visiting from out of town. Our local friends told us this is a long time tourist attraction more known for its casual fun atmosphere than its food. We had a great time, service was fine - we sat under the big tent and ordered an array of various things we were craving. The whole belly fried clams, onion rings, fried calamari and mussels hit the spot. The chowder was better than the bisque. Met our expectations. read more

Great spot along the water for a drink and a lobster roll! The coleslaw was too warm to feel safe to eat, but the lobster roll was amazing and generously portioned! This spot was popular and crowded, but service was fast and was a great lunch spot on a warm summer day. A perfect spot for jaunting over to after doing the tea party museum. read more

We went there before 5pm, so we only waited for 15 mins. The food was good and portion was decent, excellent service as well. The combo plate was perfect for me trying a little of everything. BTW, the soup was delicious ! read more

Don't think so, but not sure. I don't think it will be the most dog friendly environment. Packed pretty tight with not much room for our friends to be comfy. I suggest giving the store a call.

Yes, there is a garage within minutes of restaurant.
Do they take reservations?
They do, but you have to book on the not user-friendly link they ask you to use on their website. The link hardly has availability even one month out, which often seems like there's a glitch. Well, don't waste your time, because they don't answer… Read more

They do take walk ins. There are 2 different host stations depending on whether you want to sit on the outdoor patio or inside. They're not super organized to be honest. But there's usually space at the bar as well!
Do they have a kids menu?
Yes, they do! $9 per kid meal. Mac and Cheese, chicken tenders, etc.
Are you pet friendly in the outdoor area?
I am not 100% certain by my opinion would be to try not to bring your pet because it is so crowded that It might be unfair and uncomfortable for the pet. Just saying.
