I found this place on Yelp, and it ended up being successful! We met my parents for an early dinner before walking around for the Night of Lights. They were able to grab a table for us before we got there, and it was easy to locate off Hypolita Street. We started off with beers and sodas before ordering food. I went with the typical Irish beer of Guinness, and my dad tried some of the craft beers they offered. Our appetizer was the pretzels with beer cheese, and it was delicious! The pretzels had an everything spice on it, which was different. My parents split the fish and chips, and my fiance and I split the shaved steak sandwich. Everything was hot and full of flavors. The fries were extra crispy in little cast iron skillets. It was a great visit and I'm glad we decided to visit. I highly recommend! read more

The little secret of old town. Like many restaurants in st Aug, doesn't take reservations. However, the location is ideal and not on the main drag, therefore no 1+ hour waits on a Saturdays night but still busy. Our waiter was attentive and kept the drinks flowing. Four stars for some great fish and chips. We came in for lunch. Service was a tad slow, and the coke was completely flat, but other than that we had a good time here, enjoying the ac/respite from the super hot weather outside. I ordered the fish and chips and they were the perfect portion size with genuine super crispy chips, served with malt vinegar, lemon and tartar sauce just like I like it. I would definitely order this again here, though based on the reviews, they've changed how they make them a few times- I hope they stick with this way because it was perfect. This was our main hangout spot for the Fourth of July. We found a nice shaded parking spot in the lot on the side of the building. We ended up paying for 4 hours, that was the max, and the waitress told us they don't enforce the lots of holidays... oh well!!! The first round we had a few beers. The dogfish head sea quench was absolutely delicious. It's my new favorite sour style beer. Our first round of drinks was more expensive then our second bill. We came back for happy hour, had two smash burgers ($5 & delicious). We also had $4 sangrias made in house and they were delicious! Get the homemade spiral cut chips... amazing. Our server was super sweet. They got busy very fast and she was on top of her game. Fun outdoor eating in St. Augustine. We've been down to St. Augustine many times. We've tried many of the different restaurants but never tried the Barley. It's a bit off the regular path so we never think about it. On this occasion, we were walking around the town looking for a place to eat. Many of the places had waits so we continued to walk around. We finally stopped at the Barley and surprisingly all 3 of my kids liked the menu. Now it's been a while since I've been there so I don't recall what we all ate. But we all liked our food. They also have a good sized beer menu so we also got a few pints too. Being outside though, we were subjected to the smokers. Also, they do allow dogs to sit with you at the outside tables. Not necessarily a bad thing just something to be aware of. We will definitely be back. read more

You do not see shepherds pie on menus very often so when I do I will sometimes order it. It is on the menu here and I decided to give it a try. I am very glad I did because it was delicious! I can't say enough good things about the Barley Republic House. We have tried so many things off their menu and have loved EVERYTHING! I love the setting in an old house. We recently discovered the Green Room upstairs and it is without a doubt one of my favorite lounges in the area. It feels like stepping back in time with the old light fixtures and leather seating. So cozy! They have great live music on Saturdays (they may have it other nights but we were there on a Saturday). I will say that the gigantic tv on in the lounge took away from the cozy setting (it's like the size of a whole wall). I feel like it would be nice for a football event or something but should be turned off when the area is being used more as a lounge with wonderful live music. It just kept catching my eye and taking away from the lovely experience. Again, this is one of our absolute favorite places in the area! read more

We had two roach encounters before the food even came out. The first roach crawled over our napkins, and my boyfriend killed the roach himself. The waitress came by to kinda apologize, but she didn't replace the tableware, and she didn't sweep up the dead roach. My boyfriend and I let it slide, but when we were taking pictures, we noticed another roach crawling on his shirt. This one got away without being squished. These were not German roaches, just palmetto bugs, but it still was not something we expected. We hoped they might discount our meals or something, but we paid full price. To top it off, my "medium" burger was well-done, and his burger was extra well-done (practically burnt). We ate with the first dead roach next to us. Pretty good stop for late night eats and drinks in St. Augustine. Their food menu is limited after a certain point but the kitchen is open til 12:30AM. I shared a rib eye and fries plate that was actually pretty tasty, thanks to the compound butter. But the steak was underdone and the fries were overdone, and they weren't even that busy. My wife and I love this place! It was our first stop in St. Augustine and we actually went here 3 times that day! We had the bangers and mash and it is incredible. Amy was very personable and always made sure we had full drinks! The bar it self only has 6 or 8 stools, but we enjoyed it as we got to talk to locals. My friend and I went downtown Saint Augustine to enjoy the night of lights. We Got a little hungry and started to wander. We came across barley republic the menu sounded good and the wait wasn't super long so we decided to give it a try. It was loud and crowded but it fit the atmosphere for the night. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and let me try a new beer before I bought it which is always good. We tried the pretzels and beer cheese. Great flavor but I expected a hard outside to the pretzel but it was soft. The fries with gravy and cheese curd were good. Nothing amazing but definitely good comfort food. Masks don't seem to be required so I also felt uncomfortable being in the bar. They have stopped applying discounts for downtown employees - FYI. We were seated at a cozy table bordered on two side by gorgeous stained glass windows and A FIREPLACE that was ablaze!!!! Naturally, we ordered a couple of beers, hubby ordered the special of the day while I ordered the shepherds pie. We both loved our dishes and the Irish pub flavor was everywhere and was a great way to dine and warm up simultaneously!!! Went on a Friday at around 5:00. Waiter took our drink order and proceeded to spend about 10 minutes taking orders from a group of 9 that arrived after us. I had to go to the bar to get our drinks which sat there while he was with large group (which was outside). When he came into restaurant I asked him if he could take our order and he snapped back that he had a 9 top outside. Not really my problem. He did take our order and my Bangers and Mash was not good- mash was cold and bangers hard and tasteless. My husband, and I, had wanted to try Barley Republic for a long time. We tried their fare at the Celtic Festival one year and were impressed with what we had and another couple, who live across the street from us was talking about it, recently. So, upon going to visit St. Augustine, the other day, we, finally, broke down and went. We got there about 1:45, they open at 2PM. So, we sat on the bench outside--it was a gorgeous day. Our waiter was extremely nice, friendly and efficient. He happened to come from Palm Coast, where we live. We started with drinks: my husband ordered the Kilkenny Cream Ale and I ordered a Mojito. My husband was in the clouds over the cream ale. He loved it. The mojito was satisfactory. But, they have extensive drink, wine, and beer menus! We decided, because the appetizers sounded so, well--appetizing--we'd just go with appetizers and I ordered a cup of the potato leek soup, as well. We ordered the poutine with pork belly, the brussels sprouts with bacon, and the broiled oysters with garlic/herb butter. I could make a meal out of the poutine, alone! It was delicious. I don't know that I would have enjoyed it half as much, if we hadn't ordered it with the pork belly, which was cooked to crispy perfection. The brussels sprouts were very good, if somewhat bitter. They were served halved, with bacon, broiled to a nicely browned exterior, and in a balsamic sauce. I love brussels sprouts, so it's unlikely I would ever pass them up. I am not a fan of oysters, personally, but my husband loves them. They could have been "broiled" a little longer in my opinion, because they were still raw, but my husband enjoyed them. The potato leek soup was very creamy, mild, and had a very nice flavor. Then, because we could still fit some more food in our bellies, we ordered the lamb burger, which is what our neighbors, across the street had mentioned to us was their, personal, favorite. Since we had already had the poutine, rather than fries, we got the caesar salad with the burger. I believe the burger was topped with arugula, blue cheese, and onion. It normally comes with a garlic aioli, but since I can't have mayonnaise, they served it on the side. We didn't use it, so we don't know how that would have been, but I'm sure it's great. The burger was a bit too rare, when we ordered it medium rare, but the flavor was incomparable, a nice grilled flavor, the arugula & other toppings were very complimentary. The caesar salad was nice and cheesy and fresh, although we couldn't finish it. Of the items we ordered, I would highly recommend the Poutine and the Lamb Burger. The next time we go back, we're hoping to try the Fish & Chips and whatever else peaks our interest. We WILL be back! read more

One of my favorites in downtown St Augustine. The Street tacos with pork belly and kimchi is my go to. We came on a Sunday for brunch. This kitchen knows how to cook pork belly so I ordered the pork belly lollipops. A cube of melt in your mouth pork belly with pineapple barbecue sauce topped with pickled jalapeño. Followed with the special, a burger topped with bacon, egg and cheese, on a donut! My least favorite part was the burger patty itself. Could have left it off and I would have enjoyed more. read more

The food portions are small for the type of food, we arrived to find out the menu was "limited" and no shepherds pie. Appetizers are limited. They forgot our appetizer and someone else delivered our food. Small portions and cold bland fries. I've had better fish and chips at a fast food joint. Bangers were bland and over cooked with fake bake mash and some weird thin gravy. Service was poor and slow with little concessions or compassion for a long wait on food, drinks, and missing out appetizer. I wanted to like this place and I even hoped for Kilkenny or smithwicks to make my meal better but to no avail, their beer selection was limited and focused on locals. There's nothing Irish pub about this place that I could see. Sadly it must be another tourist trap. Do your family a favor a take a short drive up rt 1 to the joint by palencia. You will have a good hot , authentic meal. $85 dollars and I left hungry and disappointed. read more
