Barnaby's is great when you're in the area, and when it's great outside, though they have indoor seating too. It might be difficult to eat outside if your party is 6+ though. I got the chicken pesto salad sandwich, which I think of as the 'healthy sloppy joe', because it certainly is sloppyyyyy. If you are able to finagle it, it's quite a large portion though! Waffle fries are great, I think they can sub for sweet potato fries too. And don't forget the strawberry lemonade (with free refills!). There were plenty of options for every kind of eater. Definitely some of the best sweet potato fries I have ever eaten! Barnaby's kind of has it all: parking, ample seating, great service, and good food. Hard to ask for anything more. Falafel burger: crispy falafel burger that is very well seasoned. The hummus spread is a must. Black bean burger: juicy! Sometimes black bean burgers tend to be dry and crumbly but that was not the case here. Only downside was the avocado slices on top kept sliding out. Meatloaf: this is massive! There were three slices of meatloaf smothered in a tomato sauce. The mashed potatoes were amazing and it came with a whole head of steamed brocolli. I think I ate more brocolli in this one sitting than I usually eat in a year. Sweet potato fries: some are crispy, some are soft, all are delicious. This location is convenient to the med center and museum district. Service was attentive, but relaxed. Clean location. An attached parking garage serves Fadis and Barnabys for free (first level). Read the sign carefully for restaurant parking instructions on the second level (validated parking?) I was lucky to grab a first floor spot on each of my visits. I can't speak to the ease of second floor parking. Inside the atmosphere is relaxed, the bar area looks cool, and tables were quickly cleaned. Our last visit was on a Monday. Hubs ordered the lunch chicken fried steak special. It was a tasty and generously sized - definitely worth the $15. For this part of town it was a great value. Chicken fried steak was flavorful and "real". The steak was real, a tiny bit tough in a spot or two. That wasn't a big deal because the cut of meat was the key to the great flavor. Hubs was "meh" on the mashed potatoes. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. The bread was fabulous. The sandwich is large enough to share. The chicken flavorful and juicy. The avocado was fresh and at the perfect ripeness. I used a knife and fork. When they say open faced in the description it means you get both buns, but it will be larger than most folks can manage in a hand held bite. My next visit will be a salad. Spying on the food delivered to nearby tables.... because who doesn't gawk and try not to look like a food creeper? That kitchen is producing large, fresh, and delicious looking salads. Love coming here for some food after visiting the museum district! I have been here twice now with my sister and her kiddos after the museums, and it is a perfect place to accomodate kids! They have coloring books and crayons for the kids as well as a kids menu as well! They got the grilled cheese and milk for the kids, which they loved. They also offered to store the strollers while we ate. Booster seats and high chairs are available. They seem to get pretty busy during the weekends after noon but don't take reservations so you have to come and see how the wait is. They have an extensive menu and HUGE portions as well. I got the hawaiian pork chop with sweet potato fries, and it was DELICIOUS. It was a gigantic plate with 3 pork chops. The flavor was a nice blend of savory and sweetness, much like you would expect from a hawaiian flavor. Pineapple was delicious and sweet. The fries were fried to perfection and good with both ketchup and ranch. The apples were also yummy as well. Overall, 10/10 - I would definitely order this again! The other entrees we got were all HUGE, and most of us had some leftovers to take home as well. Service is so great here too! Everyone is so nice and attentive, even with the kiddos. Without fail Barnaby's always come through for me. Vegetarian here, so I used to always get the Petaluma Salad which is way more than one meal. It's always excellent. About a year ago, I discovered their Impossible Burger. I'm not a huge veggie burger fan but their Impossible Burger is next level goodness. It's always cooked to perfection, whether I'm sitting right by the kitchen at the restaurant (which I love to see all the action) or I get it delivered, perfect every time. At the restaurant, everyone is so attentive and my iced tea glass is never empty. Superior staff! The artwork and quaint laidback vibe makes dining in a lovely experience. When at home, my wine glass is often empty so the staff aren't as great as they are at Barnaby's. I love to cook, but wasn't feeling it today and needed my Impossible fix. Once again, Barnaby's hit me with another amazing meal. Impossible Burger for dinner, salad for lunch tomorrow and I just finished off my Baby Brownie (15 seconds in the microwave) with the perfect amount of vanilla ice cream they also sent! A great spot for a classic breakfast! We recently tried the Museum District location and had a good first experience. I ordered the buttermilk waffle and got a side of extra crispy bacon, which were both delicious. They also have a bacon waffle on the menu which could be fun to try next time. My parents both got the breakfast plate and really enjoyed it, especially the potatoes. We went on a Sunday morning around 9 am and there was plenty of seating. Great place to come for a meal with family/friends and very kid-friendly. This is always the place we suggest going for lunch if we are in the museum district with a group that includes children. Service was fast. We came in a group of 6 adults and 4 children (one in a high chair) around 11:30am on a weekday during HISD winter break, and we were seated within one minute (the time it took them to move tables around for us) - amazing. They have a large kids menu (hamburger slides, chicken burger, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, impossible chicken nuggets, and maybe one or two other options that I am forgetting) that comes with 4 crayons that are hexagonal, so they don't roll off the table- nice. They also have a large adult menu with very generous portions - the salads are humungous! I got the pesto chicken salad sandwich - it was packed with so much chicken that I ate it with my fork until I could get it down to a more manageable size, and I still had plenty leftover to take home. I've been eating at Barnaby's for several years now and can honestly say I've never been disappointed! My go-to is normally a salad because they're huge and delicious. My favorites are the Mediterranean Chicken Salad and the Chinese Chicken Salad (pictured). The price may seem a bit high for a salad ($16 for a large), but I ALWAYS get two meals out of it. Tip - you can order a medium size salad for a few dollars less. Tip 2 - if ordering a salad for dine-in, request the dressing on the side so that your leftovers won't be soggy. We just finished the Shark & Butterfly exhibits at MONH and were in search of a fun, quick, and family friendly spot in decent walking distance. We found it .5. mikes away at "B" (it's been dubbed). First, we'll be back at another location as ALL are dog friendly and we have 2 beauties who are going to love the "doggie menu." Second, service was phenomenal as the lunch rush ending on a Saturday - if that's possible. I wish I could remember our servers name, but with 8 people sitting down, it was too much. Third, their teamwork in delivery was outstanding and not 1 order was called out thanks to our server using the pivot system. Fourth and FINALLY, the food was phenomenally over portioned so be prepared to bring home eco friendly to-go boxes. We had 8 which is a shocker as fast as our D1 athletes eat. I was looking for a nice breakfast/brunch spot, close to my new location in the medical center and came across Barnaby's. Their menu was intriguing and offered a few dishes that caught my eye, so on a Saturday morning I took a date. I got the Migas Con Huevos, which consisted of two scrambled eggs, chorizo, tortilla strips, scallions, avacado, black beans, and salsa. I opted for no avacado and also got a glass of orange juice. My date ordered the Buffalo Scramble, which was ground buffalo, onion, mushrooms, spinach, and egg whites, served with dry wheat toast (she opted for a biscuit). She also ordered an espresso. Let me say that the migas were an unexpected menu surprise and they did not disappoint! The tasty layers of onions, on top of black beans, on top of egg and chorizo was a treat! Also, the ratio of meat to eggs was amazing (see pic)! The taste of the chorizo and the salsa was a great medley of flavor. The Buffalo Scramble had an added treat of potatoes, which were browned to perfection, and an orange half, with a slice of kiwi on top. She was very pleased with her dish. Overall, this was a great visit, with exceptional food. One thing that we both took issue with is the $3.95 for the drinks, which seemed to be the smallest drinks that we've had in while. I mean, my orange juice came in a child sized glass, as well has her espresso (see pic). If you're going to serve drinks this small, their should be free refills. I hate to leave 2 stars on a restaurant I love but after a small roach crawled out from under one of our plates and as we walked out another came out of the candy bowl... it has to be said. I've debated posting my honest experience because I hate to damage a restaurants business but as is common knowledge, once you see a couple it probably means there's an active infestation. We informed the staff and they immediately took action and comped our bill. Needless to say even though I had thoroughly enjoyed my meal up to that point, I couldn't continue to stomach it after seeing that. Was looking for a new lunch spot to check out on a Sunday afternoon and saw this place tucked away near the museum district. There was a long line to get in but the wait was only 15 minutes. We were seated socially distanced from others at the bar. I was disappointed that we missed their breakfast menu but was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few salads that piqued my interest on the lunch menu. I was torn with all the delicious salad options I didn't even know they were a "salad" place which worked out well for me since I love salads! I ended up getting the Lebanese Chicken Fattoush Salad. Omg, was it good! Chicken, feta, olives, pita chips, grilled chicken, and the most fabulous tasting herb mix (parsley, sumac, mint, and cilantro) which added an amazing and flavorful kick to the dish. And did I mention that the portions are insanely large? We had plenty leftover to go. My partner had the French dip while it was good it wasn't mind blowing but hey you win some you lose some. The salad more than made up for the sandwich.....oh and their humongous slices of cake? We got a slice of chocolate cake to go and it barely made it home because we kept sneaking bites during the drive home. I loved that it was chocolatey but not overly sweet (the cake and the frosting) plus the cake was spongy soft! On my trip to Houston prior to the pandemic, I was looking for a spot to grab a quick bite before visiting museums for the day. To my surprise, Barnaby's Cafe not only provided something to eat -- it was also incredibly delicious and somewhere I'd definitely return to on a future visit. Despite being very busy, my party was served quickly and in a very friendly manner. Being from the Chicago area, I was amazed to see the number of different meat options on the menu, at surprisingly reasonable prices. I wish I had known how large the dishes would be before-hand, as we totally overordered simply by getting one dish per person. I still have memories of the delicious Hawaiian pork chops here with a perfectly balanced sweet marinade, perfect char, and just the right amount of fat on the bone. The pineapple was incredibly sweet and fresh as well and the apples had the perfect amount of cinnamon and sweetness. The crispy fries helped to complete a crispy element to give the dish a great combination of textures. The salmon fillet was also cooked well, just the right amount of char without overcooking the fish and served with a healthy side of broccolli and rice. The strawberry lemonade had great flavor as well, where the flavor of the lemon really came out without making the drink too sour.
