This review is for pizza only. Other dishes, atmosphere, parking, service, and other factors were not considered. The pizza was picked up and consumed at a different location. A group of 21 regular people got together to try and find the best pizza place in the San Fernando Valley. None of the people claim to be pizza snobs, experts or have a preference of east cost versus west cost pizza. We didn't have a completely controlled environment. Meaning the pizza temperature at time of consumption was not constant and the palate wasn't necessarily cleared before tasting the next slice. All pizzas were made with pepperoni and mushroom in order to get a sample of their ingredients. These are not necessarily the recommended toppings, but it's hard to get 21 people to agree on pizza toppings. Each restaurant was informed of our taste test and asked to provide their best pizza with there recommend style of crust. We first tried the familiar chains restaurants Numero Uno, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's, and Ameci's. Numero Uno was the best. A month later we selected eight other restaurants based the "written reviews" of the top 40 restaurants on Yelp and suggestions from people within our group. The restaurant received 3 points for a first place vote, 2 points for a second place vote, and 1 point for a third place vote. Not everyone designated a first, second, and third place vote. Barone's nor Casa De Pizza were one of the top three restaurants that I selected, but they were both good. Barone's and Numero Uno restaurants were the only two restaurants to clearly have a different flavor. With Barnoe's you either liked it or didn't. Many of the other pizzas are similar. Keep in mind; that many of the restaurants offer some kind of special combination of toppings. This combination may significantly enhance the flavor of the pizza. None of the pizzas knocked my socks off, but that's probably because I prefer additional toppings. If you are new to the area and you are looking for a safe, but good pizza I suggest Casa De Pizza. If you don't mind taking a little risk and want a unique and tasty pizza go to Barone's. If you just want a pick up or delivery for a good price (coupons available on their website), I suggest Numero Uno. Keep in mind; it's a really thick crust that's a little sweet. Ultimately, deciding what pizza is the best is preference. Even the last place pizza in our test received a first place vote. Another way to look at the results is to rank them by the pizza with the most appeal. Meanings instead of weighting each vote depending on its first, second or third place vote, add up the total number of votes and the rank order would look like it is below. Obviously zero stars. Do NOT waste your time or money here. The "hostess/manager" of this place is a total Karen. They sat us (2 adults and a 10 yr old) at some crappy table on top of another party even though there were multiple empty booths surrounding us. I asked a waitress if we could move to one of the booths and she said of course, and we did. As we were getting ready to order this Karen comes over and says the table is reserved and that we need to move. It felt like we were being stalked and harassed. At that point I had just had enough of this stupid place and these rude people so I got up and walked to the front and asked to speak to her. She could have cared less about anything that we had to say. I told her what I thought and she got her phone out to record me. I'm pretty sure she has a very entertaining TikTok account of videos of customers telling her off because she is a terrible person. I've never dealt with customer service in a restaurant like this in my entire life, and it is beyond bizarre that the owners of this restaurant would allow this person to speak to customers the way that she does. She must be their daughter or something, because anybody else would be fired. If you need proof, just read her response to other peoples negative reviews. She is argumentative, arrogant, rude, and name calls. Not exactly the type of person you would want in customer service representing your establishment. Sad that they want their restaurant that was opened in the 1940's to soon be shut down because of their entitled snotty daughter. The parents/owners must be so old by now & senile that they have no control over their daughter & how she runs this place. If you need to file a complaint and can't get past Laura (aka Karen), I believe the actual owner of this restaurant is named Tom Monteleone. Other reviews state that he sticks up for her and her nasty attitude, so you might not have any luck with him, but it's worth a shot. Laura (aka Karen) is accused of embezzling money from Barones by her family members. The LA Superior Court documents are public record and can be found online. I will be reaching out to the health department, consumer affairs, city council, attorney general, etc. You cannot verbally abuse and harass customers. It's outrageous and borderline illegal. Cannot comment on the food because we never got a chance to order and we will never be going back but it was overpriced and not impressive. I've lived in the area my entire life and I know a lot of people and I will be telling all of them of my experience. I'm in the party planning industry. My clients like to spend money. Barones will lose business, but it sounds like they're doing a pretty good job of that on their own. read more

A Deeply Disappointing Dining Experience Parking Incident: Upon arrival, the parking situation set an immediate tone of frustration. The attendant, Antonio, was unnecessarily aggressive, demanding my keys despite there being no obstructing vehicles--rendering his insistence both illogical and intrusive. Compounding the issue, he only accepted Zelle or cash, a policy that feels outdated and inconvenient. His demeanor was unprofessional to the point of being offensive, and I question whether he is suited for a customer-facing role. Subpar Food Quality: The culinary offerings did little to redeem the experience. We ordered the lasagna, meatball spaghetti, chicken parmesan, pizza, fried zucchini, and garlic bread--all of which were mediocre at best, failing to meet even baseline expectations for Italian cuisine. The sole redeeming factor was the company of family, which made the evening tolerable despite the lackluster meal. Billing Error and Poor Service: The final insult came with the check, where the server had inexplicably doubled the charges for all main courses. When brought to her attention, her response was shockingly dismissive--claiming she was aware of the mistake but had "forgotten" to correct it, as if this were a trivial oversight. Her defensive attitude only exacerbated the frustration, turning an already disappointing evening into an exercise in poor customer service. Conclusion: Save yourself the trouble and visit Uovo or Jon & Vinny's nearby--establishments that understand both quality and professionalism. Warning: This is nothing like the wonderful Barone's we all remember so fondly. My family has been dining here regularly since the 1960s (since it's former location). We had our first bad experience tonight, and we know now that many regular customers say the place is no longer what it once was. Sad. For us, it was a rude waitress and an immovable night manager, Liliana. We drove 30 miles to use a coupon that was emailed to us for our 30 year wedding anniversary. It was July 1, and our anniversary was June 21. We were told the coupon expired, no exceptions. First time in 57 years we ever tried to use a coupon at Barone's and it was a bust. Whatever. Then, we tried that same night a second time: this time using our frequent diner cards to get a free pizza to go. We had two cards that equaled 12 stars (you need 10 for a free pizza). We were first told (inexplicably) that the cards weren't good because we dined in, so we had to explain that, yes, but we ordered the pizza TO GO, as per the rules on the card. They relented, but when they combined the two cards they shorted us two stars. We pointed out the error, but again, Liliana refused to yield. At this point, we knew she was going out of her way to mistreat us, as it was simple math she was arguing about. Eight plus four is 12, no matter how you slice it! first of all let me say before deciding not to come here based on a review try it yourself. people are either exstremely happy or exstremely mad when they write a review. from my exsperience i have been exstremley happy! the pizza is out of this world. the iced tea is fresh brewed which is a double plus. i have tasted a lot if different dishes that are also very yummy. i have never had a problem that was'nt corrected. the staff from what i have exsperienced have always been very nice and friendly. i have seen the owner interact with customers and listen to all of thier families memories about barones. if you don't like the place then your entitled to your own opinion but you shouldnt blast places on yelp just dont come back. they are obviously doing something right if they have been in business for over 60 years. i'm happy thats why i decided to make a yelp account and give you an awesome review. you definitly deserve it! while i was reading over some of the dumb reviews i came across one from laura j. how boring must your life be to review a restaurant that you have never been to. get a life. obvoiusly your bitter and upset and cheap from what i read on your review and i'm sure barone's is glad they won't be getting business from you lol enough said barone's you rock and i cant wait till i go back!! read more

No wonder they got 3.5 stars. I will start with the pros: Great interior (old school but nice) Parking (other reviewers say there was a valet parking but today there was not) Food was ok Cons: Service was horrible. the 2 stars are taken away because of the service! I don't think that i will ever go back to this place. When we entered there was noone to get a seat for us and finally when someone came she took us all the way back of the restaurant (the hall was empty we could sit in the front too). After getting the seat they forgot about us. My husband had to yell and waive his hand to let them know that we are ready for the order. The waitress (Russian woman) was very rude to my husband for some reason. After finally placing the order she left and of course forgot about us. eventually the food arrived, the food was ok , not the best Italian food but still ok. So we decided to have some dessert after all but waitress was nowhere to find)) they forgot about us as they had us seated in the very back of the huge hall. I Purchased a pizza on April 3. They usually check the box when it comes out but because of the coronavirus they're trying to be cautious they did not check it which is understandable. when I got home the pizza was burned. I called and spoke with Laura who is the manager she asked me if I wanted to bring it back I was only going out of the house once a week at that point and told her I don't feel comfortable coming back again. She told me she would put my name down and they would give me the same pizza the next time I come in. Well, I went yesterday and my name wasn't anywhere to be found they tried to contact her and couldn't get a hold of her. I called back later in the evening to talk to the owner but he was too busy to speak with me and promised he would call me today at 11:30am I never received a phone call. I feel like the service and the quality of the food has definitely gone down I was trying to support a local business during this time. Needless to say I will never return to the restaurant I feel completely ignored. read more

This is really sad to say as I've been coming to Barones for like 30 years but the service is just absolutely atrocious. The last six times I've gone there I keep hoping I'm wrong but everything is just so wrong. People seem angry to work there, very non-attentive to the point of ignoring you. Note to ownership: hire some experienced wait staff and bus boys people who give a s*** You are ruining an institution. The food is still great so I guess I'll maybe order some pizzas to go but I can't see myself sitting down in Barones again for a normal meal and that's just pathetic. My family has been coming to Barone's for over 40 years and I have never experienced the rudeness I have tonight. Pizza is amazing but that isn't the complaint. When a waiter barks at your kids for laughing, you leave a freaking review. Hey drunk 50 year old homeless looking waiter, thanks for ruining my son's birthday with your projected unhappiness. I'm sorry if your own mother was a jerk to you, but that doesn't mean you should do that bull to other kids. Get a life. Your a real tool. Ate here on Friday night and so many words in the English language can be used to describe experience, but I will choose only one, heaven. The food was good and the place was nice, the pizza was delicious. The thing that made our experience was our charming and debonair server. He was a tall young man, I believe his name was Alex. He was funny, smart and very helpful. He took us from the lowest lows to the highest highs, we laughed, we cried, we ate, we drank and this guy was with us every step of the way. It's as if we were lost at sea and Alex was our boat captain that led us to the promise land that was Barones menu. Definitely ask for this guy when you come here. read more

This is the best place around for pizza. What makes it also so special is that on the weekend there is live music. How nice it is to have a meal and get entertained at the same time. The food here is quite good. I've had almost everything from pizza to chicken here. I must admit it hard to find better tasting pizza around. The flavor of the tomato sauce and quality of the crust is super fine. Especially when you are comparing it to Domino's! Went there tonight with a few friends for dinner. We witnessed an unhappy patron trying to get the manager, waitress, and owner to solve her problem. The owner and manager refused to accommodate her, and it devolved into a shouting match. A tall, bald headed guy who I think was the owner, told her husband that if there is a bad review, he would file charges against the customer. That is pure blackmail and uncalled for. I don't know how they have stayed in business for 50 years. After passing this restaurant many times, I decided to try them out. NEVER AGAIN I ordered the chicken picatta. The chicken was tough and dry with a gloppy sauce that tasted like it was from a can. The side of spaghetti came with the most tasteless sauce I have ever had the misfortune to eat. Even Chef Boyardee was better. The interior looks like it is out of a Frank Sinatra movie. Old and dated. Our meal came to $63.00 plus tip. I took my staff to this restaurant as an appreciation token for all of the hard work they have been doing since the beginning of the year. The location is classy, they still have that Original Italian restaurant vibe. I am glad that there are still establishments that arent just making their places look trendy but are skipping on the quality of the food. An absolute gem! Barone's Restaurant is hands-down one of the best places to get authentic Italian food. Learning about their incredible 80-year history makes dining here feel even more special. We tried several dishes, including the pizza, the house combo, the Chicken Piccata, and the tiramisu--everything was absolutely delicious! Growing up Italian, I love pizza. But just because I love pizza, doesn't mean I love ANY pizza. Pizza hut, dominos, little ceasars I will not even lay a finger on. I have found a couple of good places out here in LA, but nothing compares to the barone's pizza. They make a good pizza. I love that it is thin crust with just a bit of some delicious cheese and some thick cut pepperoni. It is delizioso!! I can honestly say I've never experienced pizza like this anywhere, it's an entity all its own! I like mine with mushrooms, pineapple, tomato and the cheese well done. It's heaven! I was underwhelmed by the eggplant parmesan sandwich. The sandwich was extremely, so I had to ask for some sauce, which did not improve the meal. The ratio of bread thickness to the one slice of eggplant made it difficult to eat and enjoy. I suggest for the price they should skip the side of pasta or fries and focus on making a far better sandwich. The $8 parking put the disappointing sandwich meal over $30. read more
