It is ironically sad, or sarcastically funny, to be a fan of a surgery center. I have 3 vitrectomies (surgery to remove some or all of the vitreous fluid from the eye). Two of them were done in a hospital and the last one was at Barranca Surgery Center which I really felt the care of the admin team, the nurses and nice and quiet of the center. All of them were very nice and caring. In a hospital, they just rush, rush and rush the process so YOU could get out quickly and they could fit more and more patients into their money making production line. My surgery was successful here and I have waited for 5 weeks to review the center for obvious reason. Maybe I would rate this center differently, that is hind sight ( now I can due to the success of the surgery). My doctor was great too, but Yelp is a wrong place to compliment.... read more

The RN staff of Jill and Ivette were very professional and caring. My anesthesiologist, Dr Lee, gave me a thorough and comforting briefing on my sedation. Beware! I know Covid-19 is changing life as we know it, but self quarantining and following CDC recommendations is subject to a lot of subjectivity. I had an elective retina surgery scheduled at this facility 3/24. I had notified surgeon, primary care physician and lab that I had traveled to Italy during the initial phase of the pandemic. I returned and "voluntarily" put myself in 14 day quarantine, as no one in customs or TSA asked me one question about where I had traveled to. My wife and I both quarantined and received return to work authorization from our pcp. We were advised to remain diligent and that if any symptoms presented to contact immediately. 22 days later, and no symptoms, surgery is a go. With all this noted, I arrived at facility for surgery. Wife was asked to remain in car. Okay, no problem. She is a health care professional and understood. Staff was a little skittish and requested I wear a mask. No problem. Surgeon comes to lobby to meet with me and he and anesthesiologist agree to go forward with surgery. Nurse invites me back to pre op to prepare. I was asked to sign consent forms and pay my patient share. No problem as we had been advised how much our share would be. I know I am a clean person, but I was told to put on a hair net and surgical booties over my size 15 shoes and put the gown over my street clothes. I was wearing sweat pants that were fully exposed and the booties were stretched just to cling to the soles of my shoes. I questioned how sanitary this was and was told no problem. I asked the nurses if they knew what I should expect post op and they said the surgeon would advise after surgery and that they had no experience with my procedure. Now I'm nervous. Surprisingly vitals were very good as I was feeling stressed. They dilate my eye with six doses of drops. My eye looked like a possums! Heart monitor probes are stuck to my body by reaching down my neck hole in my polo shirt, wires attached and the machine is going crazy. Charge nurse comes over and literally asks "is he coding"? Now my nerves are freaking out. The other nurse had misplaced the probes. After tearing out chest and belly hair they replaced in correct location. Machine functioning accurately now. IV started in right hand and ready to move into surgical room. Charge nurse appears next to me and says "your surgery is cancelled". I asked what? Why. "Because I don't feel comfortable" and "the CEO of the surgical center supports my decision". She includes "My husband is also a nurse and he has a Covid-19 patient on a ventilator". This is without consulting with the surgeon nor anesthesiologist, who were finishing another procedure. They immediately took the IV out and pulled the wires on the probes and told me to leave. I was both pissed and in shock. I hadn't brought sunglasses because I assumed I would be leaving there with dressings on my eye. Mask still on my face I left office and started toward elevator to go downstairs and out to my wife inhabited parked car. Dilated eye didn't appreciate direct sunlight so I went back in and requested sun shield plastic wrap. Everyone looked shocked that the "infected one" was back. I also demanded a full refund of my payment. At first they balked, but the office manager had enough sense to provide a refund credit receipt. I left and not 60 seconds out of the lot the surgeon called and was obviously upset, embarrassed and apologetic. He asked that I keep my follow up appointment the following morning to evaluate my condition. I told him I refused to go back to that surgical center and he agreed that we could use an alternative further from my home. He said charge nurse is equally abrupt to surgeons and that he would be filing a formal complaint. He said Barranca Surgical Center would be shutting down on 3/26 due to this event and the current state of the pandemic and reopening is pending further review by BOD. Got hope and realized probes were still attached to my skin/hair. ALL of them! Surgeon advised me yesterday that my condition had deteriorated since last office visit and surgery is now considered necessary to save my vision. He is trying to schedule another surgical center immediately. Good luck! read more

Beware the Barranca Surgery Center. On July 26 2018 a surgical procedure was performed on my left eye at the Barranca Surgery Center by Dr. Nadeem Vaidya. During the surgery someone threw a bottle or something hard into a metal garbage receptacle which as you can imagine made a loud report sounding much like a gun shot. Now remember this was in a very quiet operating room environment. The sound startled the doctor and me as I was only under local anesthesia so I saw the doctors whole body wiggle with surgical tools in my eye. Bottom line is I have a blind spot in that eye which I noticed the very next day. The result of this is a blind spot impairing the vision in my left eye. I wanted to sue the Barranca Surgery Center so something like this would never to anyone else. I felt the person who through the object just was not thinking, and I wanted management to caution its people that the actions they take can cause serious damage. Not being litigious I did not know how to go about the task and did not know there is a one-year limit for filing a case. So bottom line is I have very poor vision and lots of headaches and cannot do anything about it. read more

Anesthesiologist Dr Steve P Lee was an absolute nightmare of a Doctor. After taking my wife's history, he was judgmental, petulant, impatient and sadistic/tortuous trying to start an iv. His anger and contempt showed immensely while trying and failing miserably. I could not believe a Doctor treated her this way. She and her history evidently "made his day difficult." She was respectful and honest with him, did not give him a hard time. She reported this to the staff and admin and NO ONE followed up. This place is ill-equipped and the staff is incompetent. None of the nurses could get an iv and he couldn't either. She didn't even continue with the procedure. He backed up the chair(rolling), put up his hands in anger when I stopped the mistreatment and torture on my wife, and exclaimed "okay, if that's what you want to do, fine!" I could not believe it. read more

I was scheduled for a GI procedure at this center with Dr. Herbert Lee. When I arrived the receptionist told me I was not scheduled even though I had paperwork from the doctors office showing I did. They said Dr. Lee was not there and then said he was running late. They told me to go sit down. Well I sat there from 6:15AM to almost 9:00AM. During this time I became lightheaded and nauseous due to not eating and drinking because of my procedure. I advised the receptionist several times I was not feeling well and she did not appear to care and I told her I'm going outside. You would think in a medical center if you told staff you were lightheaded and nauseous they might have a nurse look at you. Instead she told me there were benches outside, great place to send someone who might pass out. The one receptionist kept telling me this is not our problem you have to talk to your Doctor. What am I supposed to do walk into the surgery room and ask him. Then they are saying I'm going to be put on the schedule but they have no idea when. I asked for my drivers license and insurance card back she would not give them to me she said she had to keep it until I was checked in. I finally had it I was exhausted and not feeling well so we went to the front desk to inquire again. Another receptionist told me they were waiting for Dr. Lee's office to open. Why didn't they tell me that at 6:15AM I would have said forget it and left then. Instead they left me in limbo for 2 1/2 hours wondering if I was going to even get on the schedule. After reading other reviews I'm glad I left. Still have not heard a word or an apology from Dr. Herbert Lee. Not going back to this doctor or surgery center. read more

I went in for my grandmother to have a procedure done. We showed up 15 mins before her appointment and filled out all the necessary paperwork. The patient that showed up after us and had the appointment after us was taken in before us. I was very upset. They made us wait an extra hour. We were there on time, but still was put behind someone who arrived after us. It was infuriating. read more

On march I had cataract surgery for both eyes. first eye she gave me anesthesia ,I feel very comfortable, no dizzy after surgery but the second eye was a different anesthesiologist . I feel pain in when in surgery. After surgery feel very dizzy. I think he didn't control the timing of anesthesia. Also I had many friends surgery cataract in the other different places. They all supply special sunglass to patient for protect your eyes after surgery for free. You cannot wear your regular sunglass because they put the plastic cover on your eye. Arrived at the surgical center and the front desk staff was very abrupt, condescending, An Nguyen! Not just one of the office members but the majority of them. The waiting area was like a Cattlecall. I had to sit on the floor for a while until somebody noticed I was there. Then they brought me a chair. When my friend's surgery was completed, I received a text message but I did not go back until 35 minutes later. I asked the front desk several times and I asked the nurses coming out to get people, and they said they couldn't find my patient. This is the most unprofessionally ran surgical center I've ever been associated with. Thank goodness I was only the person picking up the patient!!! read more

This is one of the best surgical centers around with the entire staff getting an A+....they are kind, caring and thorough. I think if I ever needed to go back...I would not hesitate. If I could give a zero star I would. Stay away from this place, if you want to be treated like a human being. The most unprofessional staff I have ever encountered. I had a 2 o'clock procedure scheduled. Was given written instructions from my Dr's office concerning arrival time and several phone calls from the surgery center (4). Barranca sent an e-mail asking to register on line. It was long and took me a half hour. But I was happy to get it done & not have to sit in that crowded cold waiting room. The last communication from Barranca was to check in @ 1:30. I arrived, still had things to sign, while standing at the counter, some woman came out of the back and said, "Who is Dr. Singh's patient?" I replied I was, she then proceeded to tell me Dr. Singh had an emergency & had to leave. And wouldn't be back. My husband & I left without a word spoken on my part, I was so livid, I didn't trust myself to speak. This morning my phone rang, it was Dr. Singh's office. The gal said she was calling because Dr. asked her to call me because I was a no show yesterday for my scheduled procedure. Don't give these people your business, you have many different choices. Oh, when my Dr's office called Barranca this morning, they lied to them, saying I was to check in @12:30. Horrible people. read more

I had eye surgery in the Barranca Center at the beginning of January 2017. While the medical staff was excellent, the administrative/financial services as well as its customer service leave a lot to be desired. First of all, beware of their billing practices. This was the first time in my medical history that I was asked to pay the charges upfront, before the insurance portion is paid. I did it against my better judgement because I was stressed out before the surgery, and because the intake person assured me that if there is an overpayment, the refund is processed quickly. Wrong! I received the explanation of benefits from my insurance over a month ago, which stated that I overpaid the Barranca Center by $317. I called to request a refund, was transferred to their Texas billing person, and left a detailed message. I never received a call back (or the refund) so I called back four more times, each time having to leave a message since the billing person never answers her phone. I also called the center manager twice (had to leave messages again) and never got a call back from her either. They received my money 2 months ago, the insurance payment a month ago, and I am still waiting for someone to call me or (preferably) issue the refund. read more
