The nursing staff was exceptional. They were very caring and supportive. My surgeon Jamal was very experienced and gentle. I had to do an endoscopy and a coloscopy. Upon waking up after the procedure had no soreness in my throat nor bottom. My sister was let in post surgery to comfort me upon waking up. It tool less than 2 hours to be done. read more

I went in for a colonoscopy and endoscopy with Dr. Jamal. EVERYTHING was as smooth as it could have been. Large, clean waiting room (5-8 minute wait time). Super efficient admitting and prep for procedures with a personable and fluid nursing staff. They all worked in total harmony and their comradery (even @ 6:45AM with an already full house of patients) was refreshing and reassuring. 15 minutes and I was rolled in for procedures and seemingly just moments later I was done :) Anesthesia haze was gone in just minutes after coming to and the staff was right there, offering H2O or juice. I actually requested Hot tea and they offered me several choices! Mint tea with honey, Perfect! Overall, clean, professional, and reassuring! As good as it could be for what can be an potentially unpleasant moment. Thanks to all the staff, and Dr. Jamal did a great job too! read more

This clinic is very poorly managed. My colonoscopy was canceled multiple times because of miscommunication and unnecessary requirements, including a pregnancy test I was never told about and a false positive result that led to denial of the procedure. After all this stress and two ER visits, I finally saw a doctor here who showed no empathy, gave no clear instructions, and simply scheduled me for a month later without any advice on how to manage my pain. This experience caused me unnecessary anxiety and suffering. I do not recommend this clinic. read more

Surgery staff were great! Front desk and Billing people SUCK! I was told I owed $514.80. I handed the gal $250 cash and a credit card to pay the balance in FULL! Months later I received a bill for $295! WTF? The front desk girl did not record my CASH payment (Luckily I kept the receipt). THEN... she did NOT charge the correct remaining balance! I asked the billing manager to look into the amount and I sent a copy of the receipt via email to her. Never heard back. 3 days ago I received a notice from collections !!!!! Grrrrr.... Just spent hours trying to get this figured out. I never received an itemized statement that I requested months ago to see why they say I owe $295. I SOOOO hate health insurance billing unless its KAISER!!! They never do this to people. Still waiting to see if collection company receive my email. I was told it would take a couple hour when I dropped him off but they were able to get him in and out fairly quick! Came here for a colonoscopy. My Dr was just fine but the nurses (or whoever the women are that assist you in the back room) are not good. The one that put in my IV had no bedside manner. I was breathing heavy and tearing up because the IV was hurting me. And the nurse said to me "stop breathing so heavy or you will make yourself pass out". Then she left me there for like an hour just laying there suffering and waiting for the doctor. I flagged down another nurse and told her the IV was hurting me, but she said, it looks fine to me. Eventually I had to say look, if you don't bring me back to the Dr now I'm going to take this IV out and leave. They have a whole row of beds with people just laying there with IVs just waiting to be seen. They should not call you back an hour early just to make you lay there for a procedure that only actually takes 20 minutes. So they finally bring me back, do the procedure, no problems with that. But then when the nurse woke me up and wheeled me out to my ride in the wheelchair (they insist you cannot drive yourself and have to have a ride) the nurse starts telling my driver all my private protected health information!! Have they never heard of HIPAA?! She goes on telling my driver what they found during my colonoscopy and hands my driver the paperwork results, which includes actual pictures of the inside of my body! So illegal. I had not given my consent for this very private health info to be shared with my driver and I had to tell the nurse to please shut up. No idea how they have not gotten sued yet for breaking privacy laws. Then when I finally get home I have to use ice packs on my hand all night from the pain of the IV. And my hand was so sensitive that you could not touch it at all for weeks. That hand remained black and blue for 3 weeks. Very unprofessional employees, the doctor excluded. read more

This place is probably the most insensitive Surgery Center we've ever been asked to use. Managed Care at its worst - probably designed by consultants who don't understand or value patient care. Cons: Way finding to get in was confusing at best. Not sure we were walking into the operating room or the lobby when we push the big doors open . Thankfully, it wasn't the operating room . The receptionist/ cashier at the front desk barely acknowledged us. Her head was down typing as she asked for our name and told us to sign in and hand her a driver's license and insurance card. You will get a better greeting at your local grocery store. Once you get past that, you'll be asked for your credit card, have 20 sheets of paper pushed in your face, told to review it, sign in three places, and check your date of birth. You'll then be told to sit down and wait for someone to call you. There's not enough room for 3rd parties to wait in the "waiting room." You will be told to leave. Once outside, you'll quickly realize they've removed all exterior seating areas from the premises, so sitting in your car is your best option. Nice touch. Good grief - who does that? This surgery center is being operated like a 3rd world facility! Scheduled operation delayed for more than an hour, patients laid in the overcrowded pre-op room like goods in an assembly line. Worst of all, my family member was treated by a heartless anesthesiologist who has no compassion to the patient. Dr. Lee, you saw the nurse struggling to put the IV in my sister's dehydrated tiny vein when you walked in, she had been without food for over 27 hours, and suffered 17 hours constant diarrhea for this colonoscopy that was behind schedule. You should know injecting the anesthetics too rapidly into the severe dehydrated small vein could cause unbearable pain to the patient! When my sister screamed from agony, you didn't even blink your eyes, not a word to ask if she's okay, just walked away! How do you feel if it's your family members on the receiving end? I'm thankful that my sister could get out alive, and am glad that the nurses and front desk staff doing their job courteously, but never will I recommend my friends and family members to receive medical services in this location, nor I feel so proud that Irvine has all the top notch physicians like I used to! read more

Nobody wants to have surgery but Barranca Surgery Center is a great place to go. Everybody here is so efficient, kind and helpful, from the front desk girls who check you in to the nurses who take such good care of you. I wish I could remember the names of the AWESOME nurses who took care of me but I can't find the card with their names on it that they give you on the way out. Anybody who goes in for surgery is understandably nervous but these ladies are so great, they know what they are doing and they really made me feel calm. These ladies are BUSY as every bed was taken when I was there. They even had to wheel me to the nurses station for recovery because they needed the space for another patient. No worries, these ladies were always checking on me & asking how I was doing. I met the anesthesiologist & he was great also. If your doc refers you to this center for your outpatient surgery or procedure consider yourself lucky. read more

Pre-op nurses were busy so they were in and out of the room quickly, but very effective, efficient, and kind. One of the nurses insisted on placing the IV on my hand, I told her I'd never had that done as it was always in my upper arm so I was nervous, but to go for it anyway. She did awesome. It hurt way less than having it in my upper arm. Dr. Albert Lee was my anesthesiologist. He made sure all my questions were answered in the pre-op room and also double checked to see if I had any other concerns as I was being transferred to the operating room. He gave me something to help me relax in pre-op right before transfer and then I was out seconds after he put the mask on my face in the operating room. I woke up 15 mins after I was transported to post-op, had no nausea, and was ready to go within 10 minutes of waking up. 10/10 would recommend him to everyone. Best nap ever. Dr. Yonatan Mahller was the one who performed my procedure. He was fantastic. He made sure all questions and concerned were addressed and made me feel super comfortable. He personally called and updated my fiancé after the procedure while I was still out. Post-op nurse Cathy was great too. Woke up to a professional nurse who was full of positive energy. At the eye surgery center they won't even allow the family member who has to drive the patient home, to wait in their WAITING room. This is a very inconvenient and stupid policy. If you could have a great experience with a colonoscopy then I would say this would be the surgery center. I was apprehensive and had a lot of anxiety before the procedure. The entire staff was very warm and calming. I was very apprehensive about having an IV, since I hadn't had a good experience with one before. My nurse was very gentle and the second male nurse that came to assist her had a little trick that helped the IV. The procedure was over and I was back in recovery. Of course the worse part of a colonoscopy is the prep and not eating, but there is nothing anyone can do about this. I just wanted to add my experience from today because these people deserve it. From the moment I walked in everyone was efficient and kind. Front desk got my paperwork going and got me ready to go back quickly, I waited maybe 12 mins tops. Going back my nurse was excellent she was very through with my paperwork double and triple checking my medications and any problems I may have. Another nurse came and helped by starting my IV and my I add I felt nothing, I was a little nervous because of my last IV (at a different place) was traumatizing and this nurse did everything to keep me calm and did a wonderful job. My Anesthesiologist was also awesome and caring I always get nauseous and or throw up and she did everything to make sure that did not happen. The OR nurse was the sweetest woman and so on top of everything. When I got out I had 4 nurses and my doctor (he is also amazing) all of them were so kind and accommodating making sure I was ok and my discharge nurse made sure my exit went seamlessly. The Barranca Surgery Center is a finely tuned operation. Everything is in its place. Everything is efficiently staged. Personnel at every level are fully functional, professional, and pleasant. The nursing staff is abundant and awesome. I had two cataract-extraction-plus-IOL-implantation on consecutive weeks. One day post-op, from -9 diopter prescription to 20/25 vision. No problems of any kind thereafter. There is a bit of an intake queue, so be patient. Things move along smartly after you are loaded. Eye surgery is an emotional hole. After a two hour surgery under general anesthesia, I woke up to find the nurse(?) getting me dressed to go home. -My body was shaking from the anesthesia -i had blood draining and stained on my face -I couldn't sit up without assistance But they got my clothes on and wheelchaired me out to our car. The Hubs asked them to clean me up but they were in some race to get me out the door. The surgical equipment was the only reason I opted for this facility. You've been warned. read more

I never realized this center was located here. I needed an eye procedure and my doctor scheduled me at BSC. It was very busy but the women working the front desk moved everything along fast and efficiently. The time I was given was met on the nose if not a little early and from the nurse to getting everything done by my great doctor , it was a pleasant experience. I had theeee best experience from beginning to end. The front staff were kind and explain the paper work process because I forgot to fill it out. I waited for 15 mins before I was called into the "prepping room" before my surgery. My first nurse is Megan, she is the sweetest person and so very kind. She asked the normal question as allegorist and medical history. Not only that she was friendly and gentle when she poked me with a needle (inserted the IV) We chatted for a bit and she checked in on me while I waited to see the anesthesiologist. After Megan was done with me I was then greeted by Nurse Swati also just as amazing and sweet. I was very nervous because this would be my very first time going under. Nurse Swati was joking around and making light of the situation. The entire experience was truly an amazing one. I recommend this surgery center. I had a great experience here with my surgery with Dr Sepehr on September 25th 2020. I went in so nervous to the point that I was in tears and all of the nurses (I wish I remembered their names), and dr Sepehr of course, were so amazing in caring for me before and after the surgery. I woke up from anesthesia in some pain, but they made sure I was pain free and as comfortable as possible before even calling my mom to come pick me up which was nice as I didn't feel rushed. They also went out and talked to my mom to make sure they answered all of her questions for post op care. They even called me the next week to check in on me. I was originally nervous about having my surgery done here after seeing some of the negative reviews but my experience could not have been better! My wife and I each came here for procedures and had positive experiences. The wait is a little bit before being admitted but once inside the nurses are very friendly and understanding. Dr Christopher Chang head of Anesthesiology and majority share holder of Barranca Surgery Center has refused to respond to me . Arrogance and Mal Practice. I have called 4 time about the supposed RESEARCH into his Mal practice at the surgery center July 15,2021, They are running a cover up. I just found he owns all but a few % so they are going to do nothing.He Gave me a Fentanyl cocktail knowing I'm highly allergic to this type of drug. We discussed that I have stopped breathing previously. His comment was "its not that much you"ll probably be okay". IV in ! In recovery , half my face was numb from my nose over and severe pain,. I asked the nurse "laura" for help. She went and got Dr. Chang who barely glanced at me since he was on his way out to go home. On his way to leave the building for the day he said as he glanced at me in withering pain "give her some Advil." LAURA THE NURSE IN RECOVERY questioned him and said shouldn't it be Toradol not Advil? He said "Advil" and left. The recovery room then released me unable to walk, unable to stand, vision blurry ,head pounding, nausea and getting worse, drinking liquids was a problem that worsened, light was extremely painful for days, I was unable to consume food. I went to my doctor who did the surgery the next day still very ill. He said I looked really bad and was having a severe allergic reaction to the anesthesia I needed a MD not him. There were no records available BARRANCA SURGERY CENTER CLOSED AT 4 On July 16 to find out what the doctor had put in IV of 3 drugs. 4 days later I was better. Dr. Chang head of anesthesiology knowingly risked my life, and did not stay to make sure I was okay when there was an obvious problem and they released me to my young son before I recovered. read more

5 stars for the team IN the procedure room, -5 stars for the team leading up to it. I had a terrible experience at Barranca Surgery Center. First I was asked incorrect questions (another patient? Another chart) regarding limb issues due to chemotherapy (I've never had cancer) When putting in my IV, I advised to not go in my wrist, and to go in my upper arm. The nurse hesitated stating the doctor didn't like it...I explained it would not work in my wrist unless done by an anesthesiologist, and she started to do as I asked, and then asked for help completely losing my faith in her abilities. She explained she wasn't familiar with upper arm IVs, and I agreed to go in my wrist if she was confident. She assured me she was 1000%. Long story short she butchered my wrist, (it still hurts 6 hours later, and I can't move it to one side) then gave me attitude telling me "she knew how to do her job" as she slammed the guard rail down and handed me off to another incompetent nurse, who attempted my hand (again not listening to me) blew that vein, caused so much pain and had to end up putting it in WHERE I TOLD THEM TO START. This is clearly where nurses who can't cut it in hospitals come to work. In the end the angelic team from inside the treatment room came bedside and smoothed everything out. They treated me with dignity and respect (instead of being more worried about the doctor being mad with them for IV placement) and the procedure was seamless. My recovery nurse was very sweet and talked to me as I came out of it, but I would NEVER have another procedure here again. read more

I had a Hysteroscopy and D&C yesterday. This facility is outstanding. The check in was easy. The receptionist was very fast and polite. They called me back within 5 minutes. The nurse who prepared me (I forgot her name, I'm sorry) very curly blond hair, super nice. She put in my IV on the first try. Very knowledgeable. I was surrounded by a lot of nurses and felt very safe. You are in a ward with other patients and you can hear the nurses carrying on conversations with the others making them feel relaxed and comfortable. My anesthesiologist came over and explained what he was going to do and asked me if I had any questions. Thank you Dr. Lee. In the billing Dept, Denise went way above giving me all the financial information I needed. Called me back on every question with an answer and let me know she was here for me. Amazing. My Nurse for the Surgery was Jeannette Santana, she came in and held my hand a few times asking if I was ok. She was outstanding. Very Knowledgeable. Megan Paco was my check out nurse. She gave me all of the instructions needed for my post op. Jennette visited me after the recovery also to check on me and say goodbye and wish me well. Megan made sure I had everything and that I felt well enough to leave. She took me out to our VW bus where my husband was waiting and wished me well.
