Def strange location for a studio, but no complaints as its relatively convenient to my workplace. I attended a Barre class during lunch, expecting it to be relatively easy. Trick was on me! In comparison to other barre classes (i.e., Pure Barre), this place was an asskicker. Depending on the instructor, each class is different, which is great for mixing it up, but bad for knowing what to expect. As for this class, we used hand weights, ankle weights, and the ball. The classes call for a lot of toning, and extreme repetition to wear out the muscles. Everything was burning, and oh, it hurt so good! I def busted my ass and sweated more than I had wanted to (apologies to my co-workers). There are a two curtained rooms to change in pre/post workout. They supply a few necessities (wipes, dry shampoo, hair clips), and have lockers but the one downside, no showers.

Brief backstory: I used to take…read moretrampoline/rebounder classes at Xtend Barre in Preston Hollow, but it closed during COVID. I was unable to find anything like that in Dallas, and Motiv Fitness (where I go in Houston) has not gotten to the DFW area. I was in Athleta and the associate told me she takes rebounder classes at the new Club Studio, but it requires a membership and classes are full. I figure maybe some other business has this by now, and sure enough, I found C7! I signed up for the morning class today, and with little traffic on a Saturday, it was only a 13 minute drive for me! I showed up early since I am a newbie, and the owner Shannon welcomed me and told me about her business and philosophy. Then she introduced me to instructor Lisa (what a great name!) who put me behind her spot so I could follow. The room was spacious and has a hidden door in the mirrored wall leading to a bathroom that was stocked with amenities. In the studio, each station was pre-set with numerous props, including a long resistance band with handles made of the same material instead of plastic (I had not seen that before), bala wrist weights and bala ring (10 lb), 3 lb and 5 lb dumbbells, a glider, a booty band, and a ball. We bounced to a fantastic playlist, with each cardio segment choreographed and repeated, then got off and on for different strength, core, and glute work using different props (and we were given options). The finale was running through as much of the combined choreographed cardio segments that we could in the last song. The energy was high, the community was very welcoming and encouraging, and no one laughed at my failed attempts to match choreography. I got a full body workout and was drenched in sweat (and was grateful the studio provided a towel which I had forgotten to bring). I stopped by a coffee shop on the way out of the area to get matcha, and told them I needed it iced because I took this class. A customer overheard me and asked, "Did you go to C7? I have been wanting to try it!" I will definitely return when I am back in Dallas!

I was so eager to go that I woke up early and got ready thinking it was at 8:30, but woops -checked my calendar on the way out and saw it was 9:30. Luckily for me, I had selected Kiersten's class, the owner! I have been to Barre Code in Omaha and Austin previously, and have been impressed with how good of a workout I get in a 50 minute class. This studio was clean and inviting. Kiersten greeted me and we chatted about barre. I mentioned my lower back issues. With yelp check-in, I got a free friendly towel which helped me manage my dripping...glow (women glow, not sweat!) during class. The studio had two mirrored walls and Kiersten pointed out this coveted corner spot with mirrors on both sides so I could watch my posture during class. The prop we used was the resistance band with handles (I am sure there is a technical term). I never imagined using this for an entire workout, but we did and we used it well! We used it during legs, arms, and core work which was really fun. I learned a really cool way to do crunches using it, and I have one at home to try it! The class had really great music, and Kiersten's energy kept me motivated. She also came by to check on my back during class, which I really appreciated given how fast-paced the class can be. I felt very energized after the class and will definitely come back when I get back to Dallas! I also bought a really cute tank that reads "See you at the barre." ...and you will see me there soon, I hope!

I turned to one of my favorite pregnancy workouts: The Bar Method. Since I"m a bit of a workoutaholic and was only 3 1/2 months pregnant at the time I just signed up online for one of their regular classes. Thanks to all my work travels I've done the Bar Method many times in a variety of cities. It may have been my first time doing the Bar Method in Dallas, but figured I didn't need to waste my time with an easy intro class. However, when I arrived and mentioned to the girls at the front desk that I was pregno they gave me a hard time about not starting with a pre-natal class, which they didn't even have on the schedule for that particular day. Fortunately, I talked my way into the "advanced" class and was able to get my workout on. While I don't have much energy at 8:15am on a Friday I found the teacher to have especially low energy. I usually find that the Bar Method class flies by, but looked at my watch several times throughout this workout. I left feeling somewhat satisfied with my workout, but it was definitely one of the weaker Bar Method classes I've attended throughout the country. The studio itself was beautiful and I'd definitely be up for trying another class while in town. I've tried Exhale's* Core Fusion class, which is very similar on other trips to Dallas and found that to be a bit more challenging. And bonus points for Core Fusion because you can stick around Exhale after for a much needed massage. --------- * http://www.yelp.com/biz/exhale-mind-body-spa-dallas#hrid:WPrCTzheqs_RiFw0bqnxJA

Since it was also my first time doing a class here and using the Tower, he made sure to guide me through any movements I wasn't familiar with and how to best use the equipment. I found this class both challenging and relaxing for my body. I definitely felt sore the next day but in the best way possible. I really liked that the class was small (only 3 people) which allowed for a more personalized workout. The studio is small but very beautiful with large windows that allows for natural lighting to come in. The Turtle Creek studio is also walking distance from where I live so it's the perfect Pilates studio for me! I'll definitely be coming back for more Climb The Tower classes and to try their reformer classes as well.

Now in walks Bodybar Pilates and I feel like Mr. Pilates is on drugs. This ish is more challenging than what I'm used to. Oof! The process to check in was easy and the young girls working gave me the lowdown on the place and sent me off to workout. I did the classic Pilates class with Diane. She knew I was a newbie so she showed me how to adjust the reformer and tips for the class and she checked on me often to see if I was hanging in. The workout was pretty fast paced and I hung for most of it and took small breaks when needed. I haven't had a good workout like that in a long time. Flash forward to a month later and I am a member. Surprisingly this uptown location is cheaper than my place in Lakewood. You can book all your classes on the app. I haven't tried anything other than the classic, but will definitely branch out.
