We went to Barrier Island on a Monday morning 20 minutes after opening and it was crazy in there! The staff seemed very overwhelmed but handled it pretty well. I can't speak for the sandwiches because I didn't order one, but I did order an açaí bowl and a dozen bagels, and the person I went with ordered a smoothie. If you like pb+j, expect 'the jam' smoothie to taste exactly like it. The açaí bowl was very good for the price of 7$ which is low for a bowl and for the fact that it is a touristy spot. The bagels were the shining stars of the experience though, they were so amazing! My one complaint is that their garlic bagels are incredibly bitter because all the garlic is burnt, and if you put them in a bag with the other bagels the flakes fall onto all of them. But the French toast bagel was very unique and delicious, and the plain bagels are some of the best I've ever had. read more

Waited at the counter for a while before anyone acknowledged us, the place was very dirty from floor to ceiling and the professionalism from the checkout man was not great. Bagel sandwiches are delicious !! They have Taylor ham!! Their coffee is good and their smoothies / juices are the best !! If you like juicing - you'll love theirs. Fresh and tasty combinations or create your own which I did and it was the best juice I've had that I didn't make in my own kitchen. Probably even better than any I've made. Horrific service, despite the fact that it took more than a half hour to get two bagels, the customer service was terrible as well. The lady taking the order was extremely rude and had a very snappy attitude. I used to come all the time because I loved the bagels and the people here, but it is an extremely different story now. Was so sad to see this was no longer Bonnie's as we pulled up. We have stopped there on our way into vacation for years. Putting nostalgia aside we are always willing to give new places a shot. Two members of our party were devastated sun dried tomato was no longer a bagel choice. We inquired about it and were told it would never be an option. The bagels were quite dense not fluffy. They did put a nice helping of bacon on the sandwiches. We always looked forward to Bonnie's incredible coffee. This coffee was average. There were no late' options so no syrups made it mediocre. I missed all the extras such as knick knacks, puzzles and jewelry you could purchase. The new owner was nice and friendly. I wish her luck. We will try one more time as it is still fairly new. We always go to Lighthouse Bagels, but this year we were staying in Southern Shores instead of Corolla and found Barrier Island Bagels with the owners that formerly worked at Lighthouse so we decided to give it a try. It is very similar to Lighthouse, but one positive was no long lines. Got the usual garlic bagel with cream cheese and lox. The bagel was not as garlicky and the lox lacked the smoked flavor. Just so you understand, last year we ate at Lighthouse six of the seven days we were here. We also got the original cinnamon bun, sticky bun, and sausage/egg/cheese on a huge biscuit. Those were great! So good food, but we still will venture over to Lighthouse. read more

First time we've been back since it was Bonnie's. I miss the crafts and jewelry but otherwise the interior is similar. It seems like the recipe for some of the bagels has changed--they are still good, just different. I was disappointed to see that you can no longer get hummus as a bagel topping, and that all of the smoothies contain dairy (yogurt). As a vegan, the prospect of a dry bagel isn't very appealing; don't think this will be a destination for us in the future. read more
