We built our home and pool 12 years ago and considered Barrington Pools and two other builders. They were incredibly rude then, so we selected Downes. Fast forward and our heater has finally given out so we decided to get multiple proposals for a new heater, and we thought we would solicit estimates for weekly maintenance too just to survey the possibilities even though we have been relatively happy with Downes' service. We saw that our neighbors were using Barrington to install their new pool so I gave Barrington a call hoping they might have changed. No such luck. I have to say, after dealing with this company for many years, they just suck. Plain and simple. They fully installed our pool from scratch and they basically lock you into their service and if you go somewhere else, it voids the warranty. But they give the customer no real reason to go with them; their cost are always higher then what they say, their service and response time is always delayed, they are hard to work with, their service is not great and their equipment is always breaking. They even lost one of their own parts and WE had to pay for it and it stopped work in my house for 2 months. They close our pool every year, place the equipment for storage for the next year. This year, they lost one of the components and then could not find a new one so they had to modify one to make it work with my system, a system that they set up. Called Barrington Pools, (who built our pool) regarding a service call on our pool cover. The service person, Jeannie, was really abrupt and rude. Just said call back in June or July and they will see. I asked how far out they were scheduled and if they updating their appointments weekly and she could have easily gently explained that they were really busy (perhaps due to Covid or whatever) and apologize that they just couldn't accommodate any new appointments. Well I found another provider, so will never use Barrington Pools for anything in the future. read more

I have used Barrington Pools since we installed our pool 9 years ago. I have found the staff that services the pool to be very friendly, helpful, and reliable. However, I do not understand why the people who are answering the phone are consistently rude and abrasive. I would think that this would set the tone for the company, be the first point of contact for new customers, and be a constant contact for existing customers, but, it is very off putting to make a call through the main line. There has never been one person who answered the phone and transferred my call that was friendly or courteous. read more

I would think twice before using Barrington pools. We had them build our pool and the were quick to come collect the $90,000 but their service after has not been good. I stopped using them a few years ago to close my pool because they caused damage to our basket ball pole and backboard. I have also called to schedule an appointment for items which should be covered by warranty but was told they couldn't come out for 4 weeks. When I accepted their date four weeks from now they then told me to call back in 4 weeks to see if they could come out? If I could rate the customer service of this company with a -, I would. Barrington built My In- ground pool three years ago. Starting off with "mistakes" in my contract as far as pricing, I should have seen the light at the end of the tunnel and cancelled immediately! Bc of the contract, in order to maintain my 20year warranty, I must use Barrington pools for opening and closing..one red flag. I have not had a decent crew maintain my Pool since. After paying $800.00 to open my Pool this year, the heater element was faulty, it took Barrington pools a week to get someone out so I could use my pool!!!! Last summer I requested 2x per week while we were traveling, to my surprise, I was informed that the service crew came, looked at my pool and left. I returned and observed through my window this debacle. I confronted the crew as they were leaving my bill, falsifying time in and out and service provided. Hence, I phoned the supervisor and requested that this crew never return. No refund for the $300.00 that was wasted with the additional weekly visit! On Tuesday, today being Thursday, another incompetent crew came and was disrespectful when I informed them that my pool needed salt! The apparatus and my hand held clearly requested service and add salt. He started disarming my salt system as I stood by telling him to not touch it. He fondled and dropped the sensor and quite obviously. Had no clue! I called again Barrington pools and spoke multiple times with the service department and NEVER received a call back . Today, my pool is murky and looking forward to 90 degree days, I cannot swim. The short of this....DO NOT USE BARRINGTON POOLS I have requested another company to service my Pool and guess what??? They are $20.00 cheaper than Barrington!!!! read more

I would not use Barrington pools for building your pool, their employees say one thing then do another, plan out right lie to you. They are only concerned about the $ so do not sign their contract the way they put the payment plan they want all the money before they finish the job. Workers would park in front of my house & sleep, or just sit in my driveway for hour & leave. I guess they have GPS in truck so it look like they did some work? Way over priced I had my tile guy put tile in with the correct thin-set & grout for under water applications for 1/4 of the price Barrington quoted me. I saw they just bought regular thin set from home depot on the boarder they did. When I asked about it, they said it's guaranteed. On a $80,000.00 job they don't go the extra mile for you like some companies, they do the very least possible. Poor customer service. They just seem over all to very shady company. read more

I have a Barrington pool and I love the design and the construction went great. But the service is awful - and you are stuck with them for the warranty. The opening/closing service is very expensive and they don't take any accountability. I was gone for a few days after they opened and there was foam all over the pool. I opened up the chlorinator and it was completely full. They told me it was because the filters were clogged. So I replaced the filter cartridges. Still the chlorinator was full and the pool still foamy. They fixed the chlorinator and still the foam. Now they tell me chlorine wasn't going into the pool because I didn't have the heater on. Yes I said for opening don't turn on the heater but that was months ago. I did contact them about a leaking gas line a few weeks before opening. And I said I was concerned that the night of the opening it was going to be cold and wanted to make sure I had gas to the heater. They did fix the gas line but they didn't turn on the heater because I said not to on the form. couldn't they at least make a courtesy call to ask if I want the heater on. Was told they don't have time for that. Opening has cost me almost a 1000 bucks and they don't have time for a 5 minute phone call or even use your judgement if it's going to be 30 degrees at night! read more

STAY AWAY! These guys are crooks! From the time I signed the contract to the time we were swimming was 8 months. I never got a straight answer and they would never show up. They said they were going to pour a thick walled pool and after they poured it I went out and measured and it was 7" thick in some places. Then they wanted all there money before they finished. Then the company got in trouble with the EPA and the IRS called us the next day asking questions about who and how we paid for the pool because they were having trouble. P.S. STAY AWAY..I found out you get for what you pay for and going with the lowest price was a MISTAKE!!! read more

I am usually not one to post bad reviews. This company built our pool and did a beautiful job. For 7 years now we have used them to close down our pool in fall, open in spring. We do this because they say if they close the pool they guarantee the opening. We are going on our 4th pipe break in 7 years. This has resulting in us paying almost $2000 for repairs. They have been the only ones closing our pool..HMMM. Obviously they are not doing it properly, thus causing pipe burst in the springtime when they open the pool. They have made us pay for the breakage every time, saying it was our fault, possibly a ground movement, even saying there must have been an earthquake (!!). Our house is on flat, stable land and yard was professionally surveyed when the pool was installed. We even had a civil engineer look at the pipes to see if this was possible. IMPOSSIBLE. You can't speak with anyone there to get any resolution, saying "you must speak with the owner", but then when you do they will not let you speak or email him. read more

Don't do it! All I can say is that just because they are in Barrington doesn't mean that they are a quality company. Do your homework. We had nothing but problems the 1st 5 years and have switched to a very reputable and much less expensive pool service. I had a new filter put in - over $2000 and it still doesn't work. They just don't care. They also would not give me the owner's name to discuss the issues. My experience with Barrington Pools went way and above my expectations. My existing in ground pool had terrible leaks from our extremely cold winter, and I had two choices: fill it in with dirt, or build a brand new pool. I researched several companies and had several estimates, but Barrington was by far the most affordable. And, we went with them because Brett, the Construction Manager was top notch! He immediately put my dilemma to rest with his helpful suggestions and plan. I was hoping to have the pool completed by July 4th, so I can have my annual party. He said it would be done, and by gosh, it was done three days ahead of that date!!! What also impressed me most was the specific crews that Brett sent out for the construction. Each crew held expertise in their area, and they worked in a very timely and professional manner. They even cleaned up so well, you hardly knew there was construction going on! Some of the other Barrington staff members I need to mention, due to their diligence and follow through are: Mark, construction supervisor; Nick the electrician; Ray who did our pool and spa decks; Matt, another supervisor, and Benito, the final inspection liaison. Our Village is tough, (Northbrook), and he was patient, tolerant and understanding. Finally, Cathy in the office was a pleasure to work with. She never was bothered with my numerous emails, phone calls, etc. If I ever needed anything, she was right on it! So, thank you Barrington Pools for being such a reputable company. That was a month and a half ago. I have tried to contact them twice since. After months or research and getting multiple quotes, we decided to go with Barrington Pools because of their experience and reputation in the local area. We were warned by friends who also used them that this is the only company you can trust and really rely on for a complete job. I can't say enough good words. I feel like we got a great deal all around. It was a big project, but essentially everything went really smooth. They are easy to deal with and work with you the entire way. Each step is carefully planned, and there is a separate manager for that process. The entire pool from scratch including pool, all season spa, fire pit, large deck and grill were done in less than two months. They are easy to get a hold of and reliable. I don't usually write reviews, but they are the best all the way. Make sure to ask about all possible options, as our pool is easy to maintain, cleans itself, and looks great all the time. read more
