I am happily compelled to write a review of this AMAZING oasis! We are spending a few days in Phoenix, and this place is essentially across the street from our hotel. We got onto their website last night, and just returned from dinner. We will ABSOLUTELY be returning the next time we are in town, which unfortunately will most likely not be until December. If you're reading this review and pondering where to enjoy a fantastic meal, may I contentedly suggest putting down whatever you're reading this on and immediately find a table. The food is AMAZING!!! The pre-meal homemade chips and salsa are a VERY yummy precursor to the meal. Fresh and flavorful. I asked for a suggestion to a blanco tequila. I've had many and wanted to try something new. Our (as it turned out super knowledgeable!) friendly waiter narrowed my choices down, and I was pleased with my choice. My wife had a "People's Margarita" and said it was great. She had the sea bass, and I tried the cochinita pibil. We each had a taco as well, as I wanted to try the carne asada and she had a pork. Those were great, but outright paled in comparison with the dinners we choose. The meat was riduculously tender and flavorful. The rice was delicious, and changed my opinion of what Mexican rice can be. The black beans were awesome as well. The sea bass was tender as heck and all kinds of flavorful. We received a short education on some of the changes to the processing of tequilas that is occurring in the industry, as well as a suggestion of what kind of sauce to use should we want to attempt to make our own cochinita pibil. I am a regular at this location. Almost always sit at the bar. I come in around 3 times per week, the main reason I return so frequently, aside from the delicious food, is the amazing staff of bartenders at this location. Melissa, Marissa, Megan Frank, Mike and more all know be my name and immediately have a drink ready for me as soon as I walk in, with chips warm chips and tasty salsa never far behind! We had some Sunday brunch drinks that were divine! The chips and salsa are soo good. Actually too good and we ate way too many. Did we let that stop us from eating our meal..ha! I was torn on the rating today. Last night I had the tomato soup (monthly special) which was awful, very sour, had to add some cheese on the top to make it edible. Wifes tacos were very good. My Margarita was not made correctly, they forgot the agave syrup so it was sour. The correct proportions for a margarita are 2 parts tequila to one part lime to 1/2 shot of agave ( I know the owners of several tequila companies and they all told me this is the recipe). I have watched them make them and that's not what they do, the shot glass is NEVER FULL , MAYBE 3/4 at best full. I have a basic problem with their Margaritas, they do not pour enough tequila in their drinks, they are very weak, not to say I want strong drinks. I know it's the bartender's jobs to sell more drinks at $13-$18, that's where their profit is. I miss their corn chowder which was excellent!!! Will I be back sure, I will add a shot of tequila on the side to make the drink better (1/2 shot to me half to wife or friend), but that adds to my cost. NO MORE tomato soup for me. Went for a mid-afternoon post movie snack and drink. All we wanted was an appatizer and a drink. There were only a few patrons in the whole restaurant. We were seated and it took quite a few minutes before a waiter arrive at our table. Being new to the restaurant we had numerous questions about the menu. It was hard to understand the waiter due to his poor engilish. We ordered a beer and margarita on ice w/out salt. We ordered the Fautas which we believe the waiter described as being soft tacos w/ground beef. The beer arrived fine, but the margarita arrived WITH salt. So we had to send it back. Then the flautas arrived and they were not soft tacos, but rather, THICK HARD BAKED OR DEEP FRIED rolls that resembled fried taquitos. We could not get the waiter's attention, so we tried to eat the flautas, but could not without the fear of possibly breaking a tooth. We scooped out and ate the ground beef filling, and finished our drinks. We caught the attention of another waiter who succeeded in bring our check. I paid with a minimal tip and we left. This place is super cute on the inside, with bright colors and adorable furniture. Our hostess and waiter were helpful and nice, although I didn't think the food was that great. We got the guacamole, which is made at the table, so I was excited to try it out. I don't think the avocado they used was quite ready to eat, so that didn't taste very good. I also got the protein bowl. This is basically just an average taco salad type bowl. There wasn't really any flavor, with mostly just lettuce and some beans. I guess I was kind of expecting something else. I'm willing to come back and try it again because I liked the place, hopefully the food is a little better! read more

Went there with my wife Mary and her sister Sherry and her husband Paul after a day traveling around the Prescott area . Since they don't take reservations we tried our luck and there was a 20 minute wait and it actually went a little faster than that . We sat down and ordered drinks and the chips and salsa showed up . The salsa is very mild but has a great taste and the chios are very good . We all decided in the 3 street tacos a la carte and they were all very good . I had Suadero , Carnitas and Chorizo . I have had Suadero in Mexico and this Gringo style Suadero but real tender and good . The Chorizo was my least favorite and I should have gone with my gut and gotten the Chochinita Pibil Taco as my brother in law said that was his favorite . We went on a Monday evening for my husbands birthday with a party of 11 and had a great time. We got there around 530 and it was fairly empty inside but by 6 all of the tables were seated with a huge wait. Unfortunately, they were on a short crew so some things took longer than I would have wanted but our server, Andy, who was WEEDED with tables, was on it! He was very polite and apologetic for some of the wait times for our drinks. I did speak with the manager, who was very gracious, and she did more than expected to make it right! Table-side Palomas and guac are a MUST when you dine here. Everyone thought their food was amazing and, in the end, we all had a great time! Unfortunately, I was horribly disappointed by the bland flavor of everything I ordered. There is absolutely no spice to this place whatsoever. I couldn't even finish my tacos, they were tasteless. Even Chipotle has more flavor than this place lol. I'm shocked so many people like this place. If you have a good taste for Mexican food, I would avoid this place and look elsewhere. Interior is well designed with Dia de Los Muertos motifs hanging from the faux exposed brick walls. Tables and chairs are rustic Mexican design. The vibe is a busy-hip urban eatery but located in upscale suburbia. Food: Mexican Street (Street tacos, elotes, burritos) dressed up with artisan touches are the big draw here. I've tried the shrimp and fish tacos and they are great! The elote is great as is the Pozole. Price: Horrendous. No other way to state it. It's an odd experience to be ordering Mexican Street food but be paying Steak House prices. $6 dollars for an Horchata!!! $17 for a carne asada burrito!!! It's good food but give me a break. Service: Good but at the prices they charge I would expect better...which is unfair to the servers but I felt like I was at TGIF but paying for Durant's. Overall: I love the food and ambiance here but the ridiculous prices are hard to accept. The Yelp ratings for this place looked good, so we gave it a try and were very glad we did. The chips and salsa were so good, we carried our leftovers all the way back to Kansas City with us. I'm eating them as I write this review. We shared a fajita-like meal that was sooooo good. It was also so much food that we still had enough for another meal later. Unremarkable dinner with my wife at BQ tonight.
