Delicious tacos! They are on the smaller side so definitely order at least 3 tacos and possibly an appetizer. Prices seem fair, it's $14 for three tacos. Plus everyone gets free chips and salsa. My favorite taco was the pescado taco that had fried fish inside. Second favorite tacos was the Al pastor with pineapple - it was slightly too sweet for my taste. My least favorite of the tacos I ordered was the birria taco. It was good but there was nothing very special about it. Eating on the patio was very enjoyable on a nice winter day. Originally came in as a gathering to celebrate the life of a co-worker who passed away. Turned into a chaotic mess rather quickly--reservation for 10 had to be cancelled so that 2 people who arrived early could eat. Not allowed to eat at the reserved table, as 50% of your party has to be present to be seated. 50% get there and it's a huge ordeal to get us seated. Unsure what was difficult about putting together 2 tables outside, that had numerous open tables. Finally seated, found out they were participating in restaurant week. Decided to give it a try--4 courses for $33. Small flight of margaritas, elote appetizer, tri-colored sauce enchiladas, and churros for dessert. Definitely full by the end of this meal! Margaritas were ok, the one that said spicy definitely lived up to it! Not great for a Mexican food restaurant though. Elote was tasty when you got a bite with cotija in it, but it got a little soupy the further down the bowl you went. Enchiladas were pretty good, the red sauce grew on me as I ate. Nice to have different flavors/consistencies of sauce through the main course. Dessert choice was caramel filled churros. Holy moly--super sweet! But certainly didn't stop me from eating them--very good! One friend chose a few things off of the HH menu--2 tacos for $5 and elote ribs. Totally different than the elote I received, as she got actual bbq'd slices of corn from the cob. Our server, Anthony, was really great. He's the reason this review is 3 stars, instead of 2. The downside came once again when we were told that for 10 people, we were allowed 1 tab. What?! Who wants that responsibility? Nobody is able to break up the tab on the hand held cash register gizmo? Their concession was that we could put it on 3 credit cards. Still...seems ridiculous. Love this restaurant!!!! If you can only try one thing let it be the Chiles en Nogada. The picture isn't great but it's an explosion of flavors inside the stuffed pepper. The pomegranate seeds add a perfect sweet balance to the nutty sauce! The ambiance is trendy and clever with the skulls everywhere and the staff is always nice. my sister used this restaurant for catering for wedding and would NOT recommend. The birria was ok, but that's where most birria seems to be at most places at this point of birriamania. The Al pastor was super tasty and carnitas was juicy. I came to this location yesterday evening for an early dinner meet up. We were sat and greeted quickly; drink orders were taken and delivered quickly as well. Then things kinda got worse. It was a first date and we were there to get to know each other so we were doing a lot of talking. Our waitress came by several times hinting to at least order and appetizer and it got awkward. I finally told her to come back in 5 minutes and we would order; which we did. Food was good aside from the chips and salsa, as the chips were completely stale. Overall a decent experience but the service felt pushy and we felt like she was annoyed with us. Good thing it was a good date anyway:) read more

I usually love coming to this Barrio Queen for dinner, but this time that I came I ate one of the carnitas tacos for happy hour and there was a HUGE BONE in the taco. I almost broke my tooth biting into my taco. Obviously there is nothing on the menu that says tacos have bones, but when I told the manager Reyna. She was incredibly condescending and rude telling me that I just should have expected them to be there, and she really did not seem sorry at all. Overall the food was good, but the customer service was terrible and will not be coming back. Also after reading the reviews it seems like there is a pattern of bad customer service, and just general disrespect to customers. To sum this review up into one sentence, I would say this place was all right. When I look at other reviews where people are saying this is "Mexican food for white people," I can't help but agree with them. I'm a white person (embarrassing) and after two of the three tacos I had, I kept saying, "it was ok :|" because it was true; there was something missing from everything I ate. For the price point of literally everything at this place, that's quite a bad reaction. We pulled up at around 3pm for a late lunch/early dinner situation on a Saturday and the inside was already hopping. Luckily, we were able to be seated almost immediately and our server came to us quickly too. Our server was so nice and relatable - really made the experience worth while. I ordered the Queen's Cooler because I knew I wanted a drink in a tall glass so I felt like I was getting my money's worth. This was a good choice. The drink was my favorite part of the meal. Not too strong at all; really felt like I was in Mexico as I was sipping. The chips and salsa came out right as our table side guacamole was being made. The chips were some of the hardest chips I'd even eaten. I don't know if hard, thick chips is authentic to Mexico, but I didn't care for that style. It also didn't help that the chips had no flavor at all - no salt, no nothing. Like crunching down on hard, thick paper almost. I said this to my friend and she said it might be because the guacamole is so thick/chunky and that made sense. But then again, why is the guacamole so chunky? You're honestly just paying the $14-$15 for the fact that the guacamole is prepared table side. If you like your guacamole in the consistency of halfheartedly diced avocado (meaning it's literally just chunks of avocado mixed with other ingredients) then you would like this guacamole. I know it wasn't just our server who prepared it like that because a lot of other pictures/reviews display the same thing, so I know I'm not crazy. I prefer my guac creamy and mashed, not the other way around. The salsa was good though - had a nice kick to it. I ordered one quesabirria taco, one al pastor taco, and one carne asada taco. The quesabirria one was the only one I remember eating because the other two weren't memorable at all. The other two were so dry as a whole and DEFINITELY NOT worth $5-$6 each. Meat lacked flavor. Plus, I was surprised at how tiny they were. I've had food truck tacos with bigger tortillas than that (at half the price too). The quesabirria one was good because that actually had melted cheese and the tortilla itself had been doused in what I'm guessing is the birria au jus so that one actually had flavor. It was also the first time I've ever had a quesabirria so I can't even tell you if it was a GOOD, authentic quesabirria taco, you know? I still can't get over the fact that they charge you $4 for one side of rice and another $4 for a side of beans like... all other Mexican restaurants I've been to included the side of rice and beans with the main part of the dish. Long story short, I'm glad my friend got a hefty gift card to this place so I was able to enjoy without cringing at the prices charged here. Simply not worth the almost $80 for some guac, two drinks, and tiny tacos. read more

Jose Angel Q was our server his warmth and hospitality made our experience very memorable and we were all smiles when we left. The food was exceptional. The blue corn tortillas in the premium tacos held the short rib beef, pork, and shrimp nicely, and the side sauces really enhanced everything. The pork roasted inside the banana leaves was very tender, and the flour tortillas and dipping sauce was excellent. The margaritas were exotic with mango and other unique flavors.
