We dropped in on a balmy afternoon of 110 degrees, and decided to sit outdoors for COVID reasons. The patio surprised us with its pleasantness. There was plenty of shade, a fountain splashing nearby, and even water misters on the ceiling that kept us refreshed. This place had a very expansive menu. We ordered enchiladas and a selection of tacos, including the award winning cochinita taco. The food was fine, but overall lacking in much flavor or spices. They had good portion sizes and everything looked appealing, but once we dug in it was just unimpressive. The exception was their elote, which was incredible. The service was average if not a little slow. All in all, this place had a great atmosphere and many menu options, but the food was bland. It was a nice stop If you do stop in, don't miss out on the elote. read more

I recently visited Barrio Queen and left feeling frustrated and underwhelmed. First, I found my main course to be covered in salt, when I brought this to the staff's attention, instead of addressing my concerns, they accused me of lying about my experience. Ericka, the manager, came to my table, argued with me in front of my family, accused me of lying, saying that she personally tasted my plate of food which is disgusting and super argumentative. It really wasn't that serious, despite me being extremely nice about the situation. It was very embarrassing and only escalated the issue. The overall customer service was lacking; I felt dismissed and unvalued as a customer. To make matters worse, after they took the fajita plates from us and replaced our meals, I was given a receipt that still had those dishes on them, and was told that because I had eaten my beans and rice, I would still be charged for the entire meal even though they took it back, although I told them to charge me separately for beans and rice. there was no corrective measures to make sure we were happy. She was extremely unprofessional, disrespectful, and just overall lacked customer service, as well as had a huge attitude and came off confrontational while shaking her head and raising her voice at us. I expected more from Barrio Queen, I've never complained, and it's always been a go to for us, but I won't be returning. It's disappointing when a dining experience leaves you feeling unheard and undervalued especially when it is a favorite of ours. Maybe it's the new ownership, but it's definitely different set of standards and values than what we're used to when frequenting this restaurant. read more

The jalapeño margarita is really good the perfect sweetness/spiciness ratio. The Guacamole was different with pomegranate seeds in it but very fresh and flavorful. Quesadillas were good and perfect for sharing. Queso I probably wouldn't get again not super easy for dipping in chips and I love mushrooms normally but did not love them in the queso. Omg Barrio Queen!!! Where do I start? Well, five star service, food, and experience all the way. Our server Jayden was so kind, attentive, and sweet. Our table was me and my two friends and their beautiful baby girl. Jayden was accommodating and understanding. We ordered drinks to start and I was interested in trying the sangritas. He was able to get those for us at no charge. Did not realize that sangritas is pretty much a shot of green juice and a shot of chelada. Were not my jam, but my friends loved them. I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered just a taco and a side of black beans. The taco was their spicy pulled chicken with chorizo. To wash it down I got their skinny chola margarita. For my friends they got civiche and a pulled chicken platter with black beans and rice. While we waited we chowed down on their delicious chips and salsa. I had to keep stopping and reminding myself that I had food coming. The chips were light and airy with just the right amount of crunch. And the salsa, sooo good with a great roasted flavor! Soo yummy! When all of our food came it became very quiet as we savored every bite on our plates! Wow, the food was just soo good. Not super greasy, salty, or over seasoned, but just so right and authentic. Jayden consistently checked on us, filled our water, and just made us feel like we were his only customers. The drinks we had were delicious and refreshing as well. My friend asked me to pay for the tip, so of course I had to order another drink as they could not just put the tip on the card. I got their ginger fever, which was refreshing as well and not over powered with ginger. The restaurant itself was decorated with colorful pictures and pieces and just made you feel like you were transported away from Tempe. I loved the openness of the spot with a large wrap around bar and outdoor seating. There was also a larger area near the restrooms for private parties. We walked in without an appointment Saturday night and there was a 30 minute wait. The elote papas we're not bad, the corn seemed to fall off the fries but the fries were yummy. The quesabirria was good, the sauce to dip it in came very small. They were good but nothing special, prices were okay. About $6 per taco. This must be what Arizona considers "Mexican" food. If this was made in San Diego they'd be laughed out if the state. Food was atrocious. No flavor. Tacos were runny and so was every other meat that we ordered. Drinks were awful and so was our server. Whoever the girl with long black hair is and the lip injections is really rude. No personality. Might be her first job, who knows. If you want legit Mexican food you're better off going to gordo tacos in Scottsdale, get your moneys worth. You can tell how good a Mexican restaurant is going to be good based off the chips, salsa and guac. Chips were awful and so was the salsa. Peeped at the "guacamole" from another table. What a joke. Manager was "nice" enough to remove charges but stared me down the whole time with daggers in his eyes and was very obviously PISSED. Not a good manager imo, just take the L my dude. If I could put zero stars I would. My table and chairs were dirty.I waited 45 minutes to get my check and was not check on once. My chicken was still pink inside and my food came out cold. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I wouldn't even let my dog eat this food. read more

Outside of being a little pricey for Mexican fare, I really enjoy coming here. I have been to several of their locations now, including the Tempe market place one as well as Avondale and the experience was essentially the same. To me this is important as I want to be able to go to any restaurant of same name and get the same great food. They make really good tacos of all types. I am a pretty huge fan of Mexican food in general and tacos are my go too and this place does not disappoint. I have had several of their specialty tequila drinks and some mojitos and don't have any complaints on their drinks as well. My servers have been good and kept my chips and salsa and drinks full. I highly recommend this place to anyone traveling from out of town as it's a good place for some unique Mexican eats at a little higher price than your average Mexican food restaurant. read more

I'm a field traveler and visit Arizona quite frequently. Always looking for a great place to eat. The fajitas were amazing if you like grilled onions and peppers. The steak was extremely good. Coupled with the homemade tortillas. Salsa beans and rice were also all very good. read more
