First stop at Barry Bagels and the whole experience was positive. There was a wide selection of bagel varieties. The bagels were freshly made. The toasting process resulted in a crispy bagel skin with a warm chewy interior. Be sure to try the honey-brown sugar cream cheese. It yielded many Tim's by fist-timers in my group. This was my 3rd visit, via carry out. All 3x, I've gone on a Saturday around 10:30am, as it's on my route back home...so it gets pretty busy! But, the employees move through the line, as quick as they can. The first time I did carry out...my son and I got the eggels. They were seriously SO good!!! The 2nd time we did carry out, we got a 1/2 dozen bagels and cream cheese. This 3rd time, (won't b the last).--My teen son and I got the reubens. We got them hot, so the cheese was melty & our bagels, toasted. Mmmm. These sandwiches did not disappoint. Actually, nothing of theirs has disappointed, thus far. Their bagels are what sets them apart, though. Especially, here, in the Dayton area. They have (a bit), of that "East Coast" chewy texture. Like a bagel should have! Their macaroni salad is also really good...medium sized shells w a mayo/mustard base, celery, and onions. Not drowning in mayo. But, not dry, either. It's perfect! I liked this place when they first opened but now every time I go in they are out of everything I wanted a hot ham & cheese & what I got is a Poor excuse for a bagel.. So far I've had Barry Bagels 2 times and so far it's pretty good. I'm a bit confused about the bagel flavors though. The garlic bagel has sesame seeds and the onion bagel has poppy seeds. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I have had in a while (egg, bacon, cheddar on a toasted cheese bagel).

Delicious bagels, delicious cream cheese. However the execution is weird. I always order the same thing, half of the employees make it with a normal amount of cream cheese, half of them act like it is coming out of their check. So half of the time you don't really get what you pay for since the layer of cream cheese is spread as thin as you would expect butter to be. A lot of bagel shops overload cream cheese and you have to ask for half the amount. Barry's doesn't have that problem. They either give you a normal amount or else they spread a layer transparently across the bagel. It's 50/50. A bagel with cream cheese will fill me up at around 500-600 calories, but a plain bagel with a half teaspoon of cream cheese is 300 calories and now I am starving still and full of carbs lol. I still go there because their food is that good, would actually rather them raise their prices than cut corners this way. read more

Nice service and great food. I tried the corn beef and my brother tried the pastrami and both were great. The meat was high quality and all the bagels seemed to be made in house. I ate it on a jalapeño bun and it was spicy but I wish they added more jalapeños for a bigger kick. Their drinks were nice and they offered cream soda which is somewhat rare. Their prices are a little expensive. It was $30 bucks for three of us to get chips, sandwiches, and a drink. I kind of get it but this seems more like a treat than a weekly type of thing. read more

So this place has very tasty bagels and the lox is amazing, BUT the teenaged staff needs to seriously be trained on how to handle food properly. I have witnessed so much that almost made me leave without getting food but the dang lox is too good. The kids touch their hair, face, and clothes all while wearing gloves and then go straight to touching the food. One thing is for sure if you like food as much as I do you will love Barry Bagels. I don't write a lot of reviews because I don't think a lot of people read them, but this was definitely one worth writing. I've had a few bagels for sure, but I had no idea they could be as fresh and soft as what Berry Bagels puts out. Finally tried out the new bagel spot. Initial impression, surprised at how small the place is. Very limited menu. Extremely slow service. Food was ok if you dont mind cold cuts on so so bagels. I miss the old bagel cafe that was on the corner of far hills and stroop. There you could get you sandwich grilled. I will most likely not be back instead I will visit Panera up the street. We were excited to see another bagel shop in the neighborhood.... we gave it a try on their bagels.... it's okay! Nothing special about it. HOWEVER!!!!! This place serve sandwiches, soup, and salad too! So I will have to give another try on other stuff. Overall the service was as good as expected. The place is in order and clean.....It's small but still have a few booth for seating. I was very surprised that I need to wait in line at 7:40 on a Saturday morning to place my order! Because at the other chain bagel store, I never have to wait when I go around the same time. So that's a good sign. For a new place open less than a month, I think they are doing a good job!! I was excited to hear a bagel place was opening and hoping it would be a good replacement for the Bagel Cafe. Well, it isn't. I've tried it several times thinking that it would get better the longer it was open. But, no. The employees are clueless and there is no direction from management when things get chaotic and the employees are overwhelmed. And, cooking eggs in a microwave is a little odd. Why not a grill top to cook on instead of two dorm size microwaves??? Get a cook top already and get rid of the microwaves. And, meat prewrapped that is ice cold on the sandwich. Where is the freshly sliced Boars Head? Honestly, if you just copy the Bagel Cafe when it was owned by the original owner, then you will be successful. Legit, when I saw the sign go up (probably a good 6 months before the Kettering location opened, I screamed when I was driving by, whipped into the parking lot to read the sign more closely and then promptly texted my sister (she lives in Houston) to brag that we were getting Barry's Bagels in Dayton. You see we grew up near Toledo and Barry's Bagels is the bomb.com and we grew up having Barry's Bagels. Love, love them. Probably eat there once a week. The cookies are to die for. The bagels so delicious. My sister was in town for my daughter's grad party and we zipped over for late lunch, but alas I forgot they closed early on Sunday, :( boo, but it was our mistake. I actually ordered once thru a food delivery service because I really needed a bagel sandwich but just could not make myself camera ready to leave the house. Unfortunately, a pickle (I can not handle pickle juice touching my sandwich, it soaks in and make the bagel all pickley, huge struggles for me) was included in with the bagel. I called in a panic (a pickle panic) and bless him, Jonathan the manager brought me a new sandwich. Was completely embarrassed when I open the door because he recognized me (even in my pjs with my hair sticking straight up) since I was just at the restaurant 2 days earlier...thank-you my life was complete with my non-picklized bagel. Our Tuesday nite bead group ordered about 6 sandwiches. Even tho their actual delivery hours were til 2pm, they did deliver our food. They were prompt, courteous, and best of all, everyone loved their sandwiches. We all agreed the mac and cheese was really good. The egg salad was good, and those with their favorite meat and cheese sandwiches all agreed that we should do it again. I tried the potato salad and was pleasantly surprised that it tasted homemade, not like the weird yellow stuff you find in deli counters. The eggel (I had egg and swiss) was a little dry and bland, but everything else has been great. Will definitely be on our Tuesday nite and weekend crafty groups' food list. First time today. Tried two bagel sandwiches, a hot pastrami and a chicken salad. The bagels were good and the sandwiches were tasty. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is the bagel is not, in my opinion a true New York style. It's missing the chewy yet soft texture of the NY Style.
