Being an out of towner, I'm always on the hunt for a good coffee place, and there were a number to choose from in Dayton but I am glad I chose Ghostlight Coffee. Cool decor everywhere and great natural lighting, came here on a Saturday for some caffeine. My companion got the iced vanilla latte, and they loved it! Not too sweet but a great vanilla flavor. I opted for cold brew black, and it was very tasty. Nice and strong with chocolatey notes, I wish they had a bigger size! The barista helping us out made sure to steer us to their tarts and convinced me to get the brown sugar cinnamon and my friend got the strawberry. Both were really tasty with super flaky pastry. The brown sugar cinnamon was a sheer delight and I see why a big seller. Great spot and I will definitely be back when in the area! read more

Ghostlight became a favorite spot during my recent stay in Dayton. This neighborhood coffee shop had just the right vibe - cozy, eclectic, and absolutely lounge-worthy. Service was prompt and the barista was very helpful with my dietary restrictions. I absolutely loved my iced coffee latte because it was not disgustingly sweet as those that I have been served in other coffee shops. The menu is typical of most coffee shops with essentially any coffee or tea concoction that one could desire being available. I was particularly happy to see several milk alternatives available, as most coffee shops just have half and half for those of us who do not drink milk. I was intrigued by the zero-proof spirits and beverages located in the on-site Bottle Shop. The shop has a collection of non-alcohol spirits (e.g., whiskey, gin, rum), 'clean' wines, non-alcoholic cocktail syrups, and more. The barista was happy to let me sample a few, and they were surprisingly good. Non-alcoholic mocktails are available for purchase too. There is a small parking lot behind the building and street parking is also available. Whenever I am in the Dayton area, I will be certain to revisit this cozy coffee shop! read more

I stopped here on a whim, while I was downtown getting stuff from a plumbing store. I had seen their signage when driving around so I thought that this was a prime time to check it out. A little quieter time so there wouldn't be crowds trying to get some Java on the way to or from work. I was not as impressed as I would hoped from the hype that I had heard and read. Folks behind the counter were polite but not particularly attentive. With just a few people in the place, it took 5-10 minutes to prepare my drink after I ordered. Muffins looked beautiful but mine had only a few blueberries. For what I had heard of this spot, I was underwhelmed. I had a very disappointing experience at Ghost Light Coffee. I ordered a drink which is available on menu, I asked for brown sugar to be added. I was told that the brown sugar was "being reserved for a special drink they are serving, they are low and could not be added to mine, even though the price would have been the same. As a paying customer, I felt this was unreasonable. When I tried to explain my frustration, the barista told me I could just go down the street to another coffee shop instead. I then asked to speak with a manager, and she told me she was the manager. Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional, and I left feeling disrespected rather than valued as a customer. I have always supported this small business, wearing the company's tee-shirt and sweatshirts. I really hate to post a negative review of a small business because it's so hard to make it with so many corporate competitors. There are plenty of coffee shops in the area, and unfortunately, I won't be returning here after such poor treatment. read more

Ghostlight has always been like my second living room. While I do miss the old menu with more interesting and fun syrups, I will always love the ambiance of this place and all of the memories it holds for me. Ghostlight really brought together the entire neighborhood of South Park. Everyone comes here to drink their coffees at the crack of dawn and read their newspapers. I used to share the crossword puzzle with a few other neighbors. The service is friendly, the coffee is good, and this is where you want to come if you want to meet your neighbors and have a community that feels reminiscent of Luke's diner in Gilmore Girls. Shane, the owner, is a great guy and I hope to see the coffee shop still running forever. It will always be such a comfort place for South Park neighbors! read more

I always worry about parking when I go near any downtown but there was available parking behind the cafe. I had to try their chai as that is my go-to--unfortunately tasted like the kind of liquid chai you can purchase at the store. I did like seeing the local artist works displayed along the walls and the fun origami decorations hanging around. What a cute shop! I really like the atmosphere, which is this mix of eclectic and cozy and hipster, but works well overall. I got one of the fancy lattes, which was well made and not super sweet, and one of the fancy poptart pastries, which had just the tiniest bit of too much dough for the filling, but was still excellent. The outside seating is ok - it's mostly along the side of the building and next to a parking lot, but I appreciated having it, and the staff were very welcoming to me being that one weirdo who watched them set up for a block party XD read more

I tried to post a comment about my visit on the Ghostlight Coffee Facebook page, but rather than comment or follow up on it, they deleted it. So, I'll try to recreate the content here. Their coffees are always good, and today was no exception (hence, the 4-star rating). Their baked goods are usually good too, so when I saw that they had a "Black Forest Cherry Cake", I was excited to get one. Sadly, I was greatly disappointed. Really, you can't just make a chocolate sheet cake, top it with super sugary icing, toss a maraschino cherry on top, and call it a Black Forest Cherry cake. There was nothing about this dessert that resembled a Black Forest Cherry cake. I've attached a photo so that you can see what they made. Such a cute cozy spot! In town for the Ren Festival and a friend recommended this coffee shop. Super quick and if you like a bit of sweetness in your lattes, but not so much that it's tooth-aching, Ghostlight is definitely the place you want to go. I have been known to detour *quite* a ways for coffee (no specific mileage mentioned, to protect the innocent: me). I love finding great coffee shops - and am often happy to have made a trek, but always something has been missing. Not so here. Ghostlight is located in a lovely historic building, and is packed with quirky details and interesting things to look at. But let's get right to the point: THE COFFEE. It is incredible. With locally roasted beans from Deeper Roots Coffee in Cincinnati, there's a strong platform on which to build. First: I do not like flavored coffee. BUT!!!! Ghostlight has a range of extraordinary syrups from which to choose to flavor your drink, if you'd like. The balsamic black walnut one called to me. After ascertaining that it wasn't sweet (some are, the barista noted), I ordered my latte with that. LET ME TELL YOU: it's incredible. Get it! Our daughter, fellow yelper Lillie F, got the matcha latte. It was, hands down, the best matcha latte she'd ever had. So if you're going to head off the coffee menu, try that! They also have a wide array of chai options, as well as other deliciousness on the menu. There are two main rooms - the front room, which has lovely large windows that bring a beautiful light into the room, as well as tables and chairs, and a few comfy-looking sofas. The back room is smaller, and has 3 longer tables with chairs, as well as a few chairs by a gas fireplace. We sat there, hoping for heat. The windows there were really cold, though, so not sure the heat did anything/ However, if you're looking for a quiet option, head back. Or, stay in the front room and enjoy the exuberance. Baristas were fast and skilled. I would have liked more chit chat, because I always like to know what a barista would order themselves, but I think they were too busy that day. That said, we'll be back. If you're ever ANYWHERE around Dayton (say, 300 miles?), find this place. You'll be glad you did. read more

Apparently this is some sort of "on trend establishment". I thought Coffee Mate French Vanilla Hazelnut Creamer would be available, and I was WRONG. Not even in the little creamer cups like at Denny's. I was offered almond milk and I don't even know how that works. Ghostlight has been a local favorite of mine for years now. I'm not a huge fan of coffee, that's one thing I'm very picky about, but I actually like the taste of Ghostlight's coffee. While they do use beans from Deeper Roots, a local coffee roaster in Cincinnati, Ohio, they also use the most perfect syrups and milks that blend into a wonderful latte, cortado, or cappuccino. It's not too bitter, not too sweet, and if there's any time I want to try something new, I know Ghostlight is a safe place to do that. I'm also a fan of their cold brew. It has a unique taste that you just can't find other places. Their staff has always been kind to me and understanding of my brother (who has autism). The staff was very friendly it, it seems like a chill place to study, and they have multiple milk options which I love because I don't drink dairy. Ghostlight Coffee is good hipster coffee. It's located in kind of a bad neighborhood but it's not usually dangerous. They specialize in artful yet simple coffee like cappuccinos and mochas. It has a good selection of vegan choices. The muffins are good and locally made. I had the light roast coffee. It's about $2 for the regular size. The taste is very smooth. It's not bitter like at the chains. They offer a good selection of pastries. Among these are a few vegan ones. The peanut butter and jelly vegan muffin is the best of these. It's about $3 for most items. The cafe is crowded most of the time. It has only a few tables but there's plenty of chairs. There's probably someone already at each table so you'll have to share. The cafe is located at the corner of Clover and Wayne Avenue. It's not a good area but it's okay in the morning. There's free street parking right along it. read more

While in Dayton, we stopped by Ghostlight to pick up some coffee. It was our first time, so newbies to this shop. It's definitely a hipster place to be, which is something I'm used to with coffee shops but this place felt extra hipster. It was definitely busy too, I didn't feel like I had an opportunity to really ask the baristas what was good since it was so busy. I didn't get the vibe that they wanted to anwser too many questions either when I said I had never been there before I wasn't sure what to get. So I made a rushed decision for the tangerine honey lavender latte for myself and a Ethiopian pour over for my husband. The drinks were delicious, and the latte was so pretty I almost didn't want to drink it. The shop itself looked spacious with lots of seating, even an extra room in the back with additional tables and chairs.lots of merchandise available and beans for sale. Totally would have given this place more stars if only based on the drinks, but I lowered the stars just because of customer service. read more

First time here (FINALLY). I've been working from home this week and now I have the time to stop in since it's close by. They currently have a special menu (see picture) but you can also get whatever else your heart desires. I ordered the Golden Gate Fogg which was AMAZING!! If it like turmeric, ginger and honey then you will fall in love. I was disappointed that ran out of breakfast sandwiches but I will get up earlier next time .Each week they list the special food/drink items of the day on their Instagram which is helpful. The parking is kinda crazy especially when it's busy however this coffee is so good I would walk for it. They do have WiFi and cozy sitting areas. There are two rooms (the main and back ). If you want to get some work done the back room might be a better option. read more
