I came to Bartaco to congratulate my good friend on her new purchase of her new home in Stamford. I boasted about the places and how the people were great! I came to bartaco and initially had a great experience. The General Manager made our first round of drinks and they were awesome. However, they delivered our second round with a double of drinks for the order - the manager was confused and didn't know the explanation and after clarification his staff member was genuinely playful to enlighten the situation and he was extremely inappropriate and made us feel uncomfortable. Veronica was delightful and should have never felt as if she was doing anything wrong or unprofessional. I don't recommend having a drink or dinner here if you don't have a personality. read more

Being a Californian, I can say we are laid back when it comes to most things. Some Hollywood types are superficial, and some people are a little crazy about fitness but for the most parts Cali "peeps be chill." But there is one thing we are intensely snobby/judgmental/crazy about--mexican food. And thus far, I say with confidence this is one of the few places that gets it (almost) right. The first time I went to Bartaco it was oddly closed on a Wednesday at 4pm. There wasn't a sign on the door so when I called, the woman who answered told me they were "shooting to open at 5". To make a long story short, I wasn't happy as I stood out in the rain while my parking meter was ticking away. So, I took my unpleasant experience to Yelp. Well- Todd (GM) messaged me shortly after with a sincere apology and explained why the restaurant was closed. He then asked if I would give them a 2nd try, so of course I did- I couldn't deny his genuine effort to make it up to me. My boyfriend & I eventually made it back there this past week & we loved it. Tasty margaritas, a variety of tacos that were reasonably priced (the sesame ribeye was my favorite), salsa with a nice kick to it, and delicious churros & chocolate. YUM. I thought they might take off a few bucks for the inconvenience, but when I asked for our bill Domonique said the entire bill was taken care of. More restaurants need to take note. Last night was up in Stamford on a bro night and my buddy suggested Bar Taco. Order the Ahi Tuna rice bowl and corn which were very good. On the other hand the Guac and Sesame Ribeye taco were just way too spicy for everyone's taste. The spicy just killed any flavor that the Sesame would add. Not sure I would return. read more

We started off with guac and chips, and I actually laughed when they brought out 3 tostadas for the "chips" it didn't get much better from there. As a person who lives in California I am used to a large selection of dishes at traditional Mexican restaurants. Bartaco offers "tacos" and "not tacos." We tried the chicken taco, the beef taco and the fish taco. The fish taco was good and the rest were not at all. I enjoy spicy food and this food had non of that, the salsa they brought out was not spicy enough for me. As a place to eat, I do not like this place at all. However as an after work hangout I could see this place being very cool. They had a large drink menu and the atmosphere was fun. Too bad the food doesn't measure up. read more

The manager reached out to me after my first review and asked me to try Bartaco again. Needless to say, I went to Bartaco in Stamford for lunch with my friend. We ordered plantains, corn off the cob, a couple tacos, guacamole and a rice bowl. The star of the show was corn off the cob, it was delicioussssssss. The plantains were also amazing, I get it every time I go to one of the bar taco locations, and they never fail me. The service was excellent today. Good tacos. Good margaritas, what more would you want from a place called bartaco? I'd recommend the grilled corn (off the cob) as well as the guac. Service was great, everyone was super nice and helped explain the ordering system. Bartaco loses a star because the table of eight or so bro's next to us were loud and obnoxious the entire time we were there. Maybe not bartaco's fault, but they also didn't do anything about the bro'ing-out session that left the entire back half of the restaurant full of F-bombs and "first date" stories. read more

It's nice that so many local restaurants have been able to open for indoor dining during COVID, however I think bartaco should stick to takeout only. Having dinner there was a nightmare. When I arrived with my friend the hostess was so rude and said there was a table available but it was for someone else. So we said stood outside waiting and then was called in to be seated at the same table that had been available. You have to order through an app which barely worked. When we pressed order the table before us orders came up and then when trying to order more drinks we kept getting an error. The staff was extremely unfriendly and miserable. Despite being busy with takeout orders, if you can't handle indoor dining just be strictly takeout. I wanted to support a small business in town but not when you bring my dinner out and then my friends out a half hour later.. the two stars are for the margs! Let me start by saying I've been to the Bartaco in Port Chester, NY and had a pleasant experience. The other night my party and I couldn't get into that location because it was too busy, so we decided to give this location a try. We were a party of seven and seated relatively quickly. Our server came to our table right away and everyone in our party ordered a variety of tacos and sides. We then noticed a puddle of water near our table but at first didn't pay much attention to it. However, as the night progressed we noticed multiple servers trying to mop/sweep up the puddle with no luck. Finally, they started using a water vacuum which seemed to work but the floor was still somewhat wet. Anyway, our food started coming, but it wasn't all served at the same time (pet peeve). After a while however we noticed some things were missing. We ordered plantains and chips/salsa that never arrived, and two cucumber salads were combined into one bowl. When we asked our server where the rest of our food was, he told us that they were out of plantains that night (which he had failed to mention when we ordered) but that he would get the rest of the food out. He comes back a few moments later saying the kitchen is being closed because of flooding and proceeds to hand us our bill (of course, we need to remind him to take off for the food that was never served to us). I'm not going to blame the restaurant for an isolated event like flooding, but i will blame them for handling the situation very poorly. While we did get some food (which was pretty good), our waiter never informed us of the situation in the kitchen, and failed to mention items that we wanted were not in stock. He did not come around to see how we were doing, and not once did we get an apology from him or a manager for the flooding situation since the water was literally two feet from our table. While I'm sure this place is a great hangout for friends, their customer service when dealing with a curveball definitely needs improvement. read more

Amazing margaritas-- the secret? it's all about fresh squeezed lime juice!! The small palm-sized tacos were all delicious (duck, fried oysters, sesame ribeye, and pork belly) and out of this world. The side of guacamole comes with authentic breakable chips. I didn't try the additional sauces since each dish carried its own weight with flavor. I appreciated the friendliness of the bar staff. Christian was more than welcoming and was very thorough and energetic with detailing the concept and history of the restaurant. I'd definitely return! Tasty bites with efficient and friendly service. I had wanted to try this place for a long time before actually stopping in. Whenever I had previously tried to come without a reservation the place was full and the wait always too long. So finally, early on a week-night as a drive-by pick-up on the way to the Amtrak station I stopped in. I went in not knowing what I wanted and was quickly told which items on the menu were fastest to prepare so I wouldn't be late for my train. The suggested chicken tacos and cucumber salad were ready in less than 5 minutes and I was on my way with plenty of time to spare. The food was well packaged and all requisite utensils were also in my take-away bag (amazing how hard this can be to get right!). The bar staff were very friendly while I had my short wait and I look forward to coming for a happy hour next time I am around with more time on my hands. read more

Very pleased overall. Nice decor, although could've done without the blaring crappy club music at 9:30PM on a Saturday. It has a good feel to it and great service. The tacos are not authentic, and are small. The tortillas themselves are nothing special. That said, the meat is the hero here. And some of them are superb. Highlights: snapper, baja fish, duck, lamb, pork belly. The losers: the "spicy" chorizo is bland as can be, and the pastor is not bad, just odd. It's only al pastor in name. The Ceviche is interesting. Although the tacos are small, they are not skimpy with the fillings. 4-5 would be filling enough for almost any appetite, and that makes for an economic dinner. I generally don't hang out in this neighborhood, but when I do it's because I'm getting bribed to free food and booze by a supplier. Food eh. The only thing this place has going for it is the drinks. As everyone already stated, the food is overpriced for what you get. When we first came to Bartaco, the waiter had asked if we wanted chips and guac - I assumed it was complimentary as most Mexican restaurants offer free chips and salsa. When we got the bill we were shocked that we were charged especially when it was 2 large tortilla chips (I don't believe it was unlimited since no one ever came around and asked if we wanted more) and the guac was tasteless. The tacos were pretty good - but again, portions were small. I recently went back and tried the rice bowl and that is probably my favorite thing on the menu. Only great thing about this place are the fresh made cocktails. They have by far the best margaritas in my opinion. The atmosphere is nice/trendy - but the way the bar is set up, it gets pretty uncomfortable when it gets crowded since there isn't much space between the bar/tables. Their new system of ordering has really dampened the experience. Orders are strictly placed online & you'd assume it would make service faster... Instead no one at our table ever got food served at the same time. Even though I placed my order first it came well after several orders were placed by my friends. It was also really difficult to get help from a waiter because everything is online now & they are always in a huge rush. It felt really impersonal & I felt super hungry watching my friends finish their orders while I continued to wonder where mine was. I'm an adventurous eater and have had my share of fish tacos and know the best are in San Diego, so I wanted to try Bartaco's more interesting menu items.....Big Mistake! I tried the pork belly taco. It was gross. I tried the lamb taco. It was gross. I tried the duck taco. It was gross. Stick with the basic tacos and appetizers. Corn with cohita cheese was good. I love that tacos on this menu are more like mini tacos at about $2.50 each. While they can be found on some food truck menus, it is unheard of at any restaurant in Fairfield County, CT, right? The size allows me to not get overly full on unnecessary (Taco Bell-esque, of Chipotle-like) stuff like rice and beans stuffed inside - completely muddling the real flavor of the meat in the taco. At Bartaco, I get to eat and taste exactly what I ordered. The Pork Belly Taco tasted like a juicy pork belly, the Spicy Chorizo Taco had a wonderfully spicy kick that is characteristic of this sausage, the Thai Shrimp Taco had delicate Thai seasoning to compliment the shrimp....I am sure, you get the idea. And if I wanted, I could always top off my taco with a selection of hot sauces at the table or choices of sides on the menu - all at very reasonable prices. Brilliant! The guacamole was delicious. The tacos superb. The grilled corn with lime, cayenne and Cotija cheese was out of this world! You must give the corn a try. read more

Joking aside this place is good, but it's pricy. Love the people, tastes, and mood of this restraunt. Eh..I don't know why I came back. The first time I went there I wasn't happy. I decided to give it another shot and still - unhappy. I mean - I don't know maybe I'm a food snob and I like good food. This place just doesn't do it for me. We ordered 5 different tacos and I liked the chicken one only. The baja fish was ok..chorizo - eh, lamb could have been better if it wasn't so fatty and the Thai shrimp just didn't taste "Thai". We ordered the corn also and omg did it smell!!!! Disgusting. Food was good and the vibe was also good. If you forget to write your name in the ordering sheet, they may refer you by your race. At least that's what happened to me and I hope it doesn't repeat. My food ticket printed in the kitchen had my race (as in Caucasian/Asian/Latino etc) on it rather than "no name" or the waitress coming back to ask for my name. When my friend and I asked for that ticket back, instead of bringing it back, I heard all kinds of excuses possible. This is an updated review because my last experience at Bar Taco redeemed itself and I'm all about second chances. This time around, the waitstaff was most pleasant, friendly and took great care in our table and those around us. We had the baja fish tacos (my favorite by far), and also tried the chicken and wild boar, the chips and guacamole, the CHURROS, and also tried the Old Thymer drink. Everything was spot on and delicious, and I was very happy with the service we received. Be sure to order at least 3 tacos, because they small portions. The booths are great-plenty of space and they are high up so you feel fancy and like a queen. I have not gone when it's late, but around dinnertime the atmosphere isn't too loud. So enjoy dinner, no fist pumping required. I appreciated that the general manager reached out to me about my bad experience. It shows that the staff really cares about their customers and ultimately their business. So it's safe to say that we'll be coming back. read more

Great redemption service! My friend made a reservation for a certain time on a Friday night and there was a misunderstanding, so we had to wait a little longer. To make up for this, the manager gave us free appetizers, and paid for most of our meal. Our waitress Jessica was also very helpful and frequently check-in on us to see how we were doing. I am gluten-free and vegetarian, and had the cauliflower and portobello mushroom tacos. They were nicely spiced and yummy. A friend and I decided on going to Bar taco because it is gluten-free friendly. There was a lunch special option for 3 tacos and a salad for 10 dollars. With such a bargain, I ordered the lunch special. I was pleased with the tacos - falafel, chicken, and pork. Everything was delicious! The server was friendly and checked on our table often. Would definitely return! Only complaint is the parking situation... I had to park in the garage across the street, which is annoying. read more
