Speaking As someone who typically shys away from chain restaurants, my expectations of Bar Taco were measured. The experience however was refreshing. The atmosphere is upbeat and casual. The waitstaff was attentive and pleasant. What's interesting is that you order via a checklist which one of several servers picks up and confirms with you. Guacamole was good, nothing different. But fresh. The tacos were all flavorful. If you're a fan of oysters, be sure to try their fried oyster taco. The chorizo and salsa verde chicken tacos were close runners up. I love this place, it never disappoints me, I went last night and excellent service, Carlos helped me a lot and made very good recommendations, like the Bartaco green margarita. unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the Margarita, but it is so delicious. He also made recommendations for his favorite taco, I tried it and it's delicious with the Gordita Sauce. I would love to come back and have him or someone like him serve me. Beautiful ambiance. On the more expensive side if you're coming with a big appetite. Very good quality food and ingredients, lots of flavor although very spicy. This place is so cute but it's always so crowded! The seating is a bit uncomfortable. You are encouraged to order on your phone which just feels too casual for dinner time. The service is ok they don't really check on you beside bringing the food. Came with my girlfriend to try the food out pretty unique menu, the glazed pork was a personal favorite of my girlfriend . The our host (Matt) was friendly and very accommodating. The food runners were timely to address our needs. I also ordered the chicken quesadillas and a chicken taco from the kids menu but they were completely inedible because the chicken was unseasoned and dry. Good thing that the host Matt gave me his personal favorite sauce making everything just a tad bit better. The only unforgivable part about all of this is that when i took my chicken quesadillas and tacos to go and tried to eat them at home I found a BONE one of the quesadillas. Came in today for the first time not expecting to be blown away at how good and fresh the food was! Best fish taco I think I've ever had, the fish was still warm and crispy and whatever sauce they had with the lettuce and onion was delicious. Same with the pork belly taco, sweet and crispy cooked to perfection. Other than the food the service was also great! We got our food in a timely manner and the girl who checked up on us (I believe she was a manger) was very sweet and attentive, even charged my phone for me. I didn't have the best experience here today, which is surprising. Because people rave about bar taco. But the time it took to get the food, which was 20 mins when it wasn't busy at all and they looked to have a full staff and the bartender told me it would be 10 mins to get my order. Then my order got mixed up when it finally came out. I got the duck when I ordered the chicken birria taco. And I had to wait another 10 to 15 minutes for the correct order to come out. The tacos were not that bad, however they are very small and they cooked them too hard. So it was dry and hard. I guess they rushed it out after they messed up my first order of them. See photos they were $8.53 with tax. Not sure if it's worth it at this size and quality. I asked the bartender what happened with the order and she said this happens because they normally come with the duck and the staff in the back don't read. We had a great night at bartaco! The staff was attentive and kind, even though the ordering process is self serve through your smart phone. The guacamole app was split between 5- Anymore than that, and you should order 2! The portobello bowl was delicious and MASSIVE. Definitely will leave leftovers. The shrimp tacos were the star of the night! They actually had a great spice level- not for the spice-averse. The elote (street corn) had great flavor- but was a little undercooked. We went several times to dine in before Covid and always had a pleasant experience and enjoyed the food. The employees were always welcoming, friendly and helpful, and the food always fresh and tasty. We recently ordered food for delivery (UberEats) on a weekend afternoon. We were a little dubious the experience and freshness would translate with delivery, but we were pleasantly surprised everything was in tact, nothing was soggy or stale. They package the ingredients well so you can assemble your own tacos with ease, and nothing slops around or mixes during transport. We had the baja fish and chicken verde tacos, chips & guac/salsa verde, and churros. Food didn't take long to prepare or arrive. Didn't need to do anything but tuck in. Everything was tasty! My only complaint would be it is a little pricey, especially when you consider a taco is very small and the filling you get, for the fish tacos for example, is one piece per tortilla. That being said, the food tastes fresh and quality, and we're never disappointed so it's not a deal breaker for me. We'll be ordering again! read more

Great drinks. I usually go to the bone in Port Chester. LOVE IT! This location... hmmm. Here we go: So the menu and POS system were hard to navigate. It is more involved than it should be. Guest log in, credit card number, etc. took me 15 minutes including ordering another round. Not my thing. I tell you what I want, you bring it, I hand you my CC and you process the transaction ... period. I'll tip you too. But ordering has never been so unintuitive as this experience. But wait ... food had some gaps. Had all of the tacos, one or two of each. All were great except the fish and oysters. Why? Fishy taste. No good BT, super fresh seafood isn't fishy. Bartaco was one of my favorite spots for delicious tacos when I was a Stamford, CT resident. On the top of my list were the oyster and shrimp tacos. Stopped by once again recently as I was in the neighborhood and, before even thinking about stepping foot anywhere else, we placed a take out order (during COVID) for 6 tacos, guacamole & chips and corn rings from the kid menu. My LO devoured all her corn, first of all. Secondly, my other half and I scarfed down all the tacos and chips with not a single crumb left behind. Our only comment is that the prime rib taco was too salty, but the fish and oyster tacos were pretty bomb. Bartaco never fails to please us (and our LO). read more

The cocktails are made with fresh ingredients and you can't go wrong with the margaritas. I always get the plantains and an assortment of tacos. I was in last night with my family for a few drinks and a bit of nosh. Kaitlin, the bartender, made us delicious cocktails and Ali, served us up some delicious falafel tacos, salsa verde and guacamole. Being vegan; the chips and falafel are cooked separately so my heart and mouth were in heaven! Gerson, one of the line cooks, came out and I was introduced to him. What a lovely guy. I went in there for one drink and ended up having tequila shots (that were actually delicious) and a few bourbon cocktails. Definitely will be back! Only reason for the four stars was the lack of vibe. It's too bad bc the dj was playing great music but the crowd was boring AF. A place like that needs something new to get the oxygen flowing again. This spot is off the hook. Service is excellent and the food is just, damn good. Bartaco was recommended by a friend and we just so happened to be with someone that recommended the place as well. So we had to try the place. Decor - Place had a nautical vibe. I believe Bartaco originated from California which is why the vibe is very nautical. There was a bar in the middle of the restaurant and booths and tables to the side. Most of the tables were high tops so if you have kids that need high chairs, there only a few seats that can accommodate that which is closest to the window. Food - The food was great. We tried one of each on the taco menu and their margaritas with fresh squeezed lime juice. I would definitely recommend the pork belly taco and the pork carnitas. The carne asada was a bit overcooked. Would have liked the carne to be a bit on the tender side. The baha fish and the cod were alright. We also had chips and guac that was on the house due to their wait. The best guac I've had in a while. Price - Reasonable for a taco bar, I've had cheaper, but for the experience and the service the price was well worth it. Each taco was about 3.25, but after like 4-5 tacos you're pretty much full. Service - The service was awesome. There was a 20 minute wait on a Monday at 8pm which isn't bad. The host kept us informed and tried to get us seated as quick as possible. Since we had kids, he gave us an alternate solution of sitting at a high top with high chairs for the kids. A bit of a pain, but instead of waiting we went along with the idea. For the wait, they offered us guac and chips which is awesome on their part. Wait - A 20 minute wait for a high top and maybe a 30 minute wait for a seat isn't that bad. Luckily my kids were behaved that evening and the chips and guac helped with hungry kids. Great place. Can't wait for the homie to move to Conn so we can hit this place up again. read more

My review is based on customer service. Unfortunately I was not able to review the food nor drinks. If you are a person of color beware at this location. I went to BarTaco today and did everything I was suppose to do. I downloaded the app and I checked in within the 30 minutes. When I checked in for a party of 5 which included two children ages 9 and 3 the host showed me a table with bar stools. I informed him that we can't take that table because we have a 3yr old with us and we will wait for a regular table. We proceeded to wait outside. BarTaco policy is first come first serve. We waited outside for almost an hour and during that time another party checked in with 5 or 6 people. When a table became available the host gave them the table. I proceeded to tell the host we were next and he tried telling me their name was in front of mine but policy said first come first served and we were there at least 45min before they showed up. The host tried to justify why they let the other table sit before us but it was nothing but bull crap. If you have a policy than you need to stick with it regardless of skin color. I believe because we were people of color they felt like it was okay for them to let non people of color jump in front of us. I felt so disrespected and I will never visit this establishment again. I read that they were racist but I experienced it first hand. Shame on you BarTaco this is 2021 going into 2022 and people of color are not going anywhere. We are just as productive as anyone else. read more

Even though the out door season is out, the ambiance inside is as great as outside! The staff was amazing, our servers had the best personalities. Everyone was welcoming and helpful, you can get a full rundown of the menu from them. The new order system online was also handy, helped tremendously with the Covid guidelines. We were visiting the area and stopped in to pick up a bite to eat. The server at the take out station was very nice, took our order, and told us it would 15 minutes or so before it was ready. We told him we'd sit at the bar and have a drink while waiting. We found seats, and that's when our pleasantries stopped. The bar was buzzing, but there were three servers working. After a long while, we were finally greeted and asked for our order. I requested a glass of wine; hubby a mixed drink. She returned after awhile with our drinks and our bill. I gave her my card which she promptly ran, dropping back to me without stopping. My wine was served in a whiskey glass. Odd, but okay. Until I took a sip. At first, I thought maybe she gave me the wrong drink, but a second sip confirmed that the wine had soured. Our server wasn't making eye contact, so we stopped one of the others behind the bar and told him the wine was bad. He apologized and asked if I wanted a different drink. I ordered what my husband was having. He went off and told our server who eventually brought me my drink and a new bill. She was totally unconcerned that she had just served me sour wine. I was surprised that she ran my card number a second time without asking. I had closed the tab and had my card. Needless to say, our short 15 minute cocktail took much longer than that. We grabbed our to go and went back to our hotel to eat. The food matched our drink experience - lacking flavor and sub par. My chicken taco was a tortilla filled with cilantro (gag) and a morsel of chicken. Hubby said his steak taco was meh; his salad bland. And yes, we did say something to the manager. The bar server's attitude and behavior was unacceptable. While she said she'd adjust our bill, after several days, the charge remained the same. We have a BarTaco in our city. After the experience here, it's not a place we care to visit. read more

UPDATE: STILL DELICIOUS! I've been back here several times, although not during 2020, sorry. Just went the other day with my kid and we still love it - plus the kid's tastes have matured and was able to eat lots more stuff. I love the chicken tacos & mushroom tacos. Soooo good. I had the "Nojito" and it was almost as good as the real thing. The only thing I'll note is that the past 2 times I visited - once with my kid and once with another adult - both times there was a gap in service between some dishes. But the food is so amazing, anyway I almost forgot about the wait time. 2018: We enjoyed bartaco first for the food, but also for its child-friendly atmosphere & staff. I love the cauliflower tacos, spicy and savory. The chicken tacos are also delicious. The kids got coloring pages and crayons, and Mommy got a margarita. Win! read more
