I love this place - it's so happy :) It mixes two true loves of mine - Mexican food and tapas. The whole concept of this place makes me happy inside - the "order as you want", family style, bright/beachy atmosphere, plethora of options, etc. A guac is always a must here - they do that so well. Just go for the large, don't try convincing yourself you only need the small. No no no... I've tried almost everything on the menu - some things are stellar, some things are just okay. But overall - they do a really good job here. Just order a bunch of stuff and you won't be disappointed. Oh - and the margaritas are great as well. Years ago when my husband and I used to live on the East Coast we'd enjoy ourselves a pitcher of margaritas at the Port Chester location on the outside patio. She didn't even bother to transition the table to another server - which was an issue because we also had an item on the bill that needed to be removed (because it never came). The food presentation was nice, clean place always buzzing so we purposely went for lunch after rush/lunch time 1:30. Food was decent except I ordered three different type of tacos and they all tasted the same. I may try this place again but not so soon as I need to get over the high price we paid. After a mixed first impression, bar taco has made me a believer. I have gone to both the Westport and Stamford locations multiple times since my first visit a couple of months ago - and I have had great experiences. Management in the Stamford location is very responsive to feedback and is also very welcoming. The rest of the wait staff is energetic and accommodating, creating a great environment for people of all ages. My recommendation is to experiment with the tacos - a great way to explore diverse flavor combos and they're fun to eat as well. The ribeye, pork belly, and fish are my three favorites. The margaritas are fresh - you can never go wrong on this front. Another huge plus of this place is that it is lively every night of the week. Even when it's packed you'll probably be able to find a spot at the bar because of all the seating. I truly recommend either location - and I'm sure the other locations are equally as enjoyable. My friend and I did "Call Ahead" (if you call 30 minutes before you arrive, it's a way to sort of "reserve" seats). When we arrived, we only to wait 10 minutes to get seats which was GREAT because the place was packed since it was happy hours on a Friday night. We ordered: Drinks: I ordered 2 cocktails - the pisc-eau sour and port chester reviver. Wasn't a huge first of the first, but I loved the second one! It had a light, airy, fresh taste to it with the cucumber and mint, and the drink wasn't too strong. And my friend ordered 2 beers - the long trail ipa and moo thunder stout - both of which he liked. Appetizers: chipotle slaw, stewed beans with pork, and the grilled corn - all were really delicious! I especially loved the grilled corn Tacos: We tried almost all of the tacos (except the chicken, falafel, portobello, and cauliflower) - our favorites were the pork belly (it's so soft and practically melts in your mouth), the fried oysters, the sesame ribeue, and the veracruz fish. Dessert: 2 mint chocolate chips ice cream cones Needless to say, we ate alot haha. 2 drinks, 6 tacos and dessert each + shared appetizers Overall, I really liked this place. It's a lot louder than I would like, but I guess that's what you get when you eat at a restaurant that has the atmosphere of a club/dive bar with really loud music & chatter going around you. Great vibe and decor and super friendly and accommodating service. Found this place unexpectedly and went in just for a drink and a snack. Not sure about the tacos but it doesn't even matter because the plantains were the best I've ever had! They melted in your mouth and the dipping sauce it's paired with was perfect. We also had the salsa verde and guacamole. Not the best guac I've ever had but chips were good as was the salsa. Very fresh and they have a fun display. Would go back to try more! read more

This place is so over-rated, over- priced and average. The waitresses don't have to take your order because you write your order out on a card and they process it - but the service still sucks! They forget to come by, take forever on drinks and aren't very friendly. The tacos are literally the smallest thing I have ever seen and they are so expensive, the guacamole and chips and literally one large tortilla chip that you are supposed to break and share between the table? Have been here numerous times. Won't be coming back. First of all, I had an experience with an incredibly rude waitress. When a customer asks you a question, you don't sneer at them, curtly answer their question, then walk off. My friends convinced me to let it go, and not to report her poor behavior. I listened to them, but regret that I did. I went back with a different group of friends a few weeks later. The food took over an hour to come, and we did not order much of it. Imagine our surprise when it was over $80 for some tacos and a piece of corn. If you're going to charge full prices, offer real full meals. I'll get a taco someplace else. read more

Its an adorable spot in the heart of stamford. The ambiance is great, crowd ranges from mid 20s to late 30s, young professionals. The servers and bar tenders are quite friendly and it gets buys as the night progresses. In terms of food, they have a good collection. I had their guac, and ordered pretty much all the tacos. My colleagues took me to this place for lunch and I will say this, I left happy and full. Bartaco serves this mini lunch tray and I was very pleased to find three vegetarian options (mushrooms included). So I went for three tacos- Cauliflower, Falafel, Portobello and a Gazpacho on the side (of course after furtively googling Gazpacho) :P The cauliflower taco had BBQ sauce which was nice, but I wished they'd done more with the cauliflower itself; it is, after all a delight when seasoned well. The falafels were fresh, crisp and served with a white sauce and diced veggies- Second favorite. The best one (and so good that I saved a piece for my last bite) was the Portobello taco- absolutely delicious. Everything was garnished with cilantro, and brought extra flavor to all my tacos. The gazpacho was a surprise because I'm a hot-soup person but for this weather, it was perfect, well-balanced with cucumbers and fresh tomatoes. THE classy and fun place in downtown Stamford to be seen having a drink. If you just want classy, don't stop here (try Barcelona). If you just want fun, don't stop here (try Buffalo Wild Wings). Bartaco is always packed with good looking people having a good time. It gets loud. But that's sometimes fun when you have to raise your voice just to hear the person you're smashed up against because so many people are in the bar. Having lived in Mexico for a year and a half, I didn't walk in to Bartaco expecting the food to strike any nostalgic notes. One bite into the truly delicious cactus, though, and I felt pangs of longing for my favorite taqueria south of the border. For starts: really delicious nopales (cactus) prepared deliciously with plenty of chiles, corn smothered with cotija cheese, and pretty much perfect guacamole. The tacos themselves were small but filling and really flavorful. The salsas were also impressively authentic and surprisingly spicy. I was too full to try the churros with chocolate sauce but they looked deliciosos. Everything was incredibly fresh, fast out of the kitchen, and smartly balanced. The place feels a little suburban gimmicky and trying a little too hard what with its upside-down basket lights, almost-artistic black and white photos, and unnervingly friendly J Crewish staff, but the food made the experience. read more

I had 3 friends visiting from NYC this past Saturday and I wanted to take them somewhere with good food and a fun atmosphere - obviously Bartaco came to mind immediately! We arrived at 8pm and were told that the wait would be "no less" than 30 minutes. While I appreciated the honesty, I realized this gives them a giant loop hole and we could end up waiting much longer than 30 minutes. We actually popped over to Barcelona to see how long the wait was there to compare. They estimated 45 min so we decided to return to Bartaco for some drinks while we waited. The drinks take a while to make but since so much effort is put into making each one delicious with fresh ingredients, it's worth the wait in my opinion. We ordered some guacamole and enjoyed our drinks at the bar while we waited for a table. The chips to guacamole ratio was off so we had leftover guac but not enough chips. Our bartender noticed and let us know that fresh chips were being made and would be brought out as soon as they were done. Her attentiveness was impressive, especially with such a busy bar. When the chips did come out, they were chewy in the middle - maybe they didn't have enough time to set / dry? We were seated about an hour later which was fine for us - we were busy catching up and the time went by quickly. I was very disappointed that by the time we got to sit, they were out of the duck taco (my personal favorite). I settled for a ribeye taco and a wild boar rice bowl. One friend got a fish taco and a portabello rice bowl. Another friend got 1 fish taco, 1 shrimp taco and 1 red snapper. My third friend got the cucumber salad and 2 fish tacos. Our waiter ended up giving us another order of guac and chips - which we didn't mind at all since the guac is so delicious. My ribeye taco came first, 5 minutes later the rest of the tacos came but they forgot 1 fish taco. They brought the missing fish taco another 10 minutes later. The rice bowls were still no where to be seen. They apologized for the late rice bowls which arrived a good 30 minutes after the rest of the food. However, the rice was under cooked and we had hard grains in every bite. The tacos were delicious like always though. All of this would have led to a not-so-pleasant evening but our waiter handled it well. He did not charge us for the rice bowls (we didn't even say anything) and he brought out complimentary ice cream at the end of our meal. While there were some bumps along the way (long wait, chewy chips, poor timing of food delivery, under cooked rice, out of duck tacos - wow, it's more like several bumps!), I was satisfied with how everything was handled. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment...or maybe the draw of fresh guac, delicious drinks and a fun Saturday night atmosphere keeps me coming back for more. read more

After an hour and a half of trying to submit my order online in 15 minute increments I just gave up. It was beyond frustrating. Please make a better way to place an order online. This place is your typical mod mex taco place, but very cute. My biggest gripe while visiting is that they do not tell you the mushroom taco has meat on it, which is a little annoying for a vegetarian. Nowhere on the menu did it state chicken, yet mine came out with chicken and i ended up taking a bite out of it before realizing there was chicken. Not only this, but this in turn means there are only 2 vegetarian taco options (cauliflower and falafel). This should really be something you state on the menu as this can be quite deceiving to people who dont eat meat. This review is based on the steak quesadilla. We used to love the steak they used. Now it seems to be changed to some kind of a sesame beef-jerky type. It's terrible. Seems to be hopping almost every day of the week. I recently moved in across the street and its my go-to if a friend comes to town for a drink. The margaritas are fresh squeezed right in front of you and they add tequila and agave nectar. They are refreshing and delicious! I love that the tacos are tapas-sized so you can try a variety. I also recommend the spicy cucumber salad. Delish! They have a DJ on the weekend and I've seen this place turn into a full blown dance party. Lots of fun! read more

Love this place! Been here about 6 times. Service is great, Stavros and Taylor are friendly bartenders. There's one woman bartender with black hair who isn't friendly at all though, so I do my best to avoid her lol. But everyone else is always making sure the areas are clean & customers are serviced. Even the managers walk around & talk to patrons. The food is very tasty, good portions for the prices. Tacos are $2.5 or $3.5 each. Try the guac or a rice bowl! You can easily fill your stomach with $20. They also have a happy hour deal. 5:00-6:30 PM, choice between 5 drinks, $5 each. I love the Cecilia. Overall I'd bring anyone & everyone here.
