I still say the staff at the upper Queen Anne Bartell Drugs is fantastic. Really nice group of people. But they are no longer dog-friendly. This means my choices are: 1) Leave my dog at home when I walk around the neighborhood to run errands. This makes him very sad, because he enjoys walks. And running errands. Weird dog. 2) Leave him outside the store, which results in him barking or chewing through his leash then running into the store to find me. He's pretty cute, too, and could be dog-napped. 3) Shop elsewhere for cards and little toys and toiletries. Communique (also on QA Ave) has a fantastic card and toy selection! And prepackaged Charli's Produce Salads in the freezer case in the back- What is that about? I seem to live at this Bartell's. It is near my house, open 24 yours and just about always has what I need, when I need it. Most of the staff is jovial and helpful and I adore the sweet older ladies who check me out; however, the pharmacy lacks a certain poise, understanding and privacy which I just don't understand. I am Diabetic, therefore at the pharmacy at least once a week to pick up my various supplies. I'm a polite and patient person but having to be there so frequently I have noticed all of the following on a consistent basis: -Confusing my medication with someone else's. Oops, oh, you don't have herpes? What did you say you needed? Oops. -Calling out my name with my prescription name across the lobby. Goodbye privacy. -Exclaiming, "You don't have insurance? Whoa, this is expensive." I know that jerkstore. Thanks a lot. -Having me sign for my RX on a pad which very CLEARLY has other folks names on it. I truly did see my old manager's name on there for 4 prescriptions. Total lack of privacy. -The pharmacists are not especially pleasant. I always feel like I am in trouble or have pestered them if I need to chat about why they changed a medication w/o notifying me or why I cannot purchase multiple boxes of my necessary medicines, etc. Clearly the communication is the problem here. I suppose I should transfer all my 'scripts to another pharmacy, as this place, however convenient, has never really made me feel like a valued customer, let alone part of any community which Bartell's boast to be. Darn the 24 hour thing...it is in those times that I need medicine in the middle of the night that they have saved me. Sour faces, uncomfortable communication and lack of privacy aside, I have to say 3 stars because the rest of the place is great. read more

This is a convenient drug store in my neighborhood. It has mascara, hemorrhoid cream and toothpaste. You can get your prescriptions filled by a licensed pharmacist. The people are helpful and I have never had a long wait to check out. Free garage parking through the alley around back. I bought a fan here last summer. It's a chain store, what more do you want? It hits the marks without exceeding expectations. It is what it is. Convenience to me personally gives it the 4th star. read more

The people in this store are rude and unhelpful. I confirmed on the phone that they would be able to do passport photos in store. I arrived 15 minutes later to have my child's passport photo taken and even though the computer that prints photos was up and working they refused to help me saying the photo center was down. I asked the woman on the phone to double confirm the photo center was working when I called, she confirmed yet the people at the cashier refused to help. My other experiences with the pharmacy have also been extremely negative in the past. Do not recommend this location. read more

I used to really like this Bartells. The pharmacy had great staff. I was in to pick up medications frequently enough that I knew the pharmacists and staff pretty well. Then one day, sometime in 2014, the lead pharmacist left. Suddenly, the rest of the staff was gone, replaced with new staff. After several errors with my medication refills, I changed pharmacies. I always thought the store staff were pleasant. It still is a convenient location for me to pick up basic medical supplies. I still have occasional one time prescriptions filled there, as it is the most convenient pharmacy for me, especially if I am ill and just want to get home. read more

I can't trust this pharmacy. I have had wonderful experiences with other Bartells (West Seattle primarily) but Upper Queen Anne's Bartells doesn't seem to be staffed with the right people or they have poor infrastructure. Since I moved to Queen Anne in January, and have needed to refill my meds, there have been issues with communication, filling on time, delivery issues, and unpleasant customer service. This morning, I called their automated system because my medication bottle says 4 more refills available, my request to refill was confirmed and pick up is set at 1pm today. I called to confirm my pickup, I know that is not necessary but I have had multiple bad experiences at this pharmacy, the man at the pharmacy was very defensive and condescending when he told me they won't fill my prescription because my insurance has now required that my daily meds be filled by mail order. I am okay with getting medication in the mail but why was my order confirmed via their system? Why did I receive no call or text saying they couldn't fill it? I called to confirm my order because I have had other experiences where they say I have more refills and come in and they say I have no refills. I have been told the order is ready and on it's a way via their delivery service and it was delayed with no notice and when I canceled so I could pick up in person, they would not refund me. I have to take this medication but it is so stressful because I can't trust that they will fill it, communicate with me, or tell me the truth about filling it. SO in all, please heed my warning and choose a pharmacy you can trust. I have wasted my time and been very stressed out. read more

Bartell Drugs used to be my go to for pharmacy needs. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Since they were bought out by Rite Aid things have gone dramatically downhill. Almost all of the long time pharmacy staff have left and the skeletal staff that currently man the pharmacy seem pitifully equipped for the task. Even when they have your medication in stock and "ready", (not a foregone conclusion by any means) the wait to get those medications can be a half hour (or more) standing in a long line at the back of the store. Today I tried to call the store to get information for a vaccine I need. When the phone was finally answered it was one word, HOLD, and after 10 minutes of holding, I gave up. Maybe I need to get my vaccination elsewhere. Sad to see what was a great pharmacy go to shit. read more

I come in here almost daily for my snacks at work. I found some insoles and ibruprofen because my back has been killing me. The insoles said $10 on the rag. They rang up as $19.99. I asked and was sent to check myself and then was acknowledged by the manager that the price was listed as $10 and someone would change it at the register for me. Someone else checks the price and not the tag on the shelf and doesn't even check that it said one thing on the shelf. Nice customer service. I won't be back. read more

2 stars = "Meh. I've experienced better" but I've experienced worse. 4+ stars for the store excluding the pharmacy... which averages out to 3ish stars. The pharmacy cashier is not overtly rude, but has been just attitudinal one too many times... enough to have me switch our household's scripts across the street to Safeway. Yes I know there's often issues w/ insurance, Dr's offices etc, but somehow they seem to handle things with more grace & less condescension across the street. Rest of store is pretty good. Five stars for the PHARMACY at Bartell's! I was in an annoying situation thanks to poor communication between my employer and insurance company. The pharmacy staff (especially Trisha) was so patient and helpful with me; taking time to explain what was going on, trying to help run reimbursement, and really going above my expectations to try to remedy the situation. It's basically just a drug store. What is amazing about this place is, the way they face all the products, and the way they present them. I mean, the canned foods isle has never looked better. You almost want to bring your camera, it is that good. Employees are constantly cleaning up the shelves. However, I only go there for products I can't find anywhere else. They are much more expensive than Safeway across the street. It may look good, but its not worth that premium price. read more

This pharmacy lost my insurance card. Seriously. It's just 'gone.' They kept it when I placed my order (I found this odd) and told me they would hand it back at checkout (they never did). Ironically, the tech assured me "don't worry, we wouldn't lose your card or anything." A couple of questions come to mind: Why did they keep my card while I went shopping, instead of just jot down the info/scan the card? Why would they forget to hand it back to me at pickup if this is standard practice for them? When I called later to let them know I never got my card back, why couldn't they find it? Where would an insurance card run off to -- is there a reason why it would leave the pharmacy not in my hands? I'm kicking myself for not remembering to ask for that card back when I picked up my meds. At the same time, what kind of business just loses your insurance card? There's only three potential scenarios: it is under a table somewhere back there, it was given to the wrong customer, or it was stolen. Judging by the other reviews, as well as the general disorganization I witnessed, I'd say the pharmacist is a poor manager. Nice tech who tried to hunt down the card for me, but she was never able to explain to me why they had to physically hold onto insurance cards (at one point she mentioned that she couldn't find it in the "pile of cards" -- wtf?). Too bad since this place is very conveniently located for me, but I will definitely not be back here. Making the trip to CVS from here on out. read more

This is the easily accessible place where I can shop for my cosmetics and get my photographs printed ! You can carry your pictures in phone and get them printed. There is even a free parking behind the store. After shopping you can grab a cup of coffee in metropolitan market. They also sell beautiful helium balloons. I love the staff here. read more

i'm sad to have to write this one ... bartell has always been such a Seattle-area staple, but clearly it's going downhill, and FAST. this particular location, at the top of QA, is super close to home, and therefore has been my go-to corner store, pharmacy, and just general last-minute stop for anything i need. over the past 6 months or so, i've noticed a definite shift in the staff there, as well as the atmosphere for customers. most recently, i was treated with such disdain and rudeness by their pharmacy staff that i have decided to switch all of my family's meds to another chain altogether. aside from the pharmacy staff, every time i go in to this location, there are employees yelling to each other across the store (and always about personal stuff i certainly don't need to hear about), often bashing other drugstore chains and joking about how other chains aren't up to par with Bartell. whether that's true or not, it's extremely unprofessional and rude. the pharmacy staff is just about always found to be inattentive when i come by because they're sitting on their cell phones texting or facebooking or whatever they're doing. i've had to ask several times for them not to have their personal cell phones out when handling my medications because of privacy concerns, though i'm sure they could care less about my privacy. the only times i've seen a professional or helpful pharmacy there is when the head pharmacist (a male, i don't recall his name) is there. he's nice and helpful, but clearly his staff does whatever they want when he's not there. it's really too bad that i'll have to go so far out of my way to visit a drugstore now, but worth avoiding the risk of these people sharing my personal medical information with their social media networks, or continuing to deal with the way they treat customers. read more

This is about the pharmacy only. I've been going to the Bartells Pharmacy on 22nd Ave NW for 18 years. Until they were bought by Rite Aid, they were excellent. In the past several months, it has been one 'confusion' after another. Like a prior reviewer, I was told that they "never received" the referral from my doctor, EVEN after I saw evidence of the referral going out via my med chart, EVEN though the doctor received a confirmation from Bartells that they received the referral, EVEN though my doctor confirmed with great detail over a voicemail to me which I played aloud to the pharmacist at the Bartells store with the pharmacy clerk nodding his head and empathizing throughout, the pharmacist still said they didn't receive it. He did not apologize for what was clearly a problem on their end. He said I could bring in a Hard Copy. Seriously? A hard copy? Because their online system is not working but they cannot admit that? Fortunately this was not a prescription that was vital to my survival or mental health. After 18 years, I am switching elsewhere and not looking back. If a pharmacy is not able to deliver your prescription drugs to you (the same drugs you've been purchasing there for literally years), they are no longer a pharmacy you can trust or rely upon. Be cautious in your choices. I hope that clerk finds a good job elsewhere -- he was very nice but very stressed -- I really felt for him! read more

This locally owned business is by far the best drugstore in Seattle, especially in the pharmacy. I've had many frustrating experiences with other pharmacies in Seattle (poor service, unfriendly staff). The staff at Bartell's are friendly and helpful, and the wait is never too long (at least in my experience). Best of all, they don't ignore their customers! As for the rest of the store, their products are very reasonably priced. I can find many items cheaper here than grocery stores (including Theo chocolate and some liquors). read more

I went here just a couple of minutes ago and soon found the Fidget spinners I bought a light up Bluetooth fidget spinner for $10 it was a true steal. The check out woman was not happy that I payed with a large bill.They are lacking succulents. Someone I was with bought a biscuit and herbal tea and sit with easy to steal Pokémon cards. Love our local Bartells! My family and I frequent this location often, from paper to medicine, from holiday stuff to their great deals we always support this local store. Max and the other workers are awesome, always friendly and helpful, and even know the things we regularly buy and let us know if there will be a deal coming up or if they're back in stock. Always friendly, kind and courteous, the pharmacy like many smaller ones do take a minute to fill prescriptions but they're always available to answer questions even at their busiest times. I'm not sure why so many folks have an issue with this location but from the minute we moved to the neighborhood this store has been one my family and I proudly support and shop at! This Bartell is newish (like under two years old) and I'd say it's my second fav Bartell in Seattle. It's never as busy as the downtown locations, so things tend to stay nice and organized and stocked up. They ran out of skim milk once, I think that's the extent of my complaints. The cosmetics/toiletries aisles are are huge, which makes me happy. This store can carry more products from a line than downtown can. There's a section near the front door just for Tree Hut products, which also makes me happy. Their travel size section always kicks ass too. While Bartell's sales aren't that impressive you can get crazy good deals on compact fluorescent bulbs from time to time and they recycle them for free as well. I know Bartell is more expensive than bigger chains, but hey, it's local, and you pay for the tidiness and generally more helpful staff. Last year when I was preparing for my rhinoplasty a woman went out of her way to try and help me locate some arnica gel, even checking with the pharmacy and then explaining why they no longer carried it OTC. I was not as impressed with the woman last summer who stood there fanning herself for a full minute while I waited to get rung up, but oh well, still 4 Stars for good ol Bartell Drugs. read more

The pharmacy staff REALLY has a lot to learn about customer service. I actually overheard one young woman express joy to another staff person (they were around the corner talking about my order and apparently didn't know or care that I could hear them) and that she was glad they ran out of a particular drug and that now they wouldn't have to fill anymore of THOSE orders today! And they didn't have three of the four prescriptions I was there to fill for my very ill Mother. She was rather smug about it as she was telling me, too. I found a management person and told him. He seemed aware that her behavior was an issue and encouraged me to report it on their main site. He also had an opinion about the more recently hired staff, as well. Too bad that nothing changes there. Doesn't speak well for their training or management practices. I go there, but would go elsewhere if there was another full pharmacy at the top of the hill. Many of the other store staff (other than pharmacy) are quite helpful and pleasant. read more

This store is seriously lacking in customer service. I wasn't greeted when I walked in. There was no associate in site, not even at the registers. Their Kodak kiosk machine is a self-serve, but doesn't state where to pick-up the pictures. Although it is a self-serve, where the associates don't offer you help (you have to ask), you have to then wait for an associate to gather the photos for you. That was an annoying wait as I did not know if I was supposed to just grab them and go up to the registers and pay myself, or just expect someone to see me waiting and eventually help me (there should be a bell to ring for service!). And it doesn't help when the manager of the store doesn't carefully read the coupon that was handed to him, it just looks bad. read more

Worst pharmacy I've ever been to. Send your prescriptions somewhere else - seriously! Not only did the pharmacist give me the wrong information about a vaccine, but they never gave me a vaccine fact sheet afterward - a federal requirement. Further, I had to call TWICE to get them to transfer my updated vaccine records to my primary care, and even then the attendant on the phone made it sound like I was asking her to give me her kidney. read more

Worst pharmacy ever. They've gotten my prescription wrong every time-- every time I get it filled, I correct them, and next time it continues to be the old prescription. They also have the wrong doctor as the prescribing doctor on the medication bottles- I don't even know how this happens, I don't even see the doctor they put down anymore, and she never prescribed me anything in the first place.. So it doesn't make sense. Also, they have withheld prescriptions from me that were prescribed bc I was in a car accident and they refuse to give them to me- they have talked to my car insurance company 3 times verifying the claim information, yet they continue to withhold the prescription and every time I talk to them the story of why they're doing this is different. They've told me they do this keep 'fraud' away a few times, yet like I said they've spoken to my insurance company multiple times- it seems like the pharmacy is the one committing fraud as you should be able to get your prescribed medicine within a reasonable amount of time. I'm in a lot of pain from this accident and Bartell's is just making it worse. I'm not sure if they're just not trained properly, or they're just rude and trying to hurt people, but either way it's not right. ****UPDATE**** I called the lower Queen Anne Bartells to see if this was a company-wide wrong doing or just the upper Queen Anne location's issue and sure enough within an hour of calling the LQA store and explaining the situation, I was able to pick up my prescriptions (same day as all these issues with the upper QA store) - so obviously this store just isn't trained properly. They need to pay Keon from the lower Queen Anne store to train the rest of these pharmacists! read more

Doesn't get prescriptions transferred in time even with hoursssss of notice and was guaranteed to be ready for pick up, doesn't even bother to follow up and let me know so I can make other arrangements (I had to call 9 hours later wondering why I hadn't been notified of my pickup time yet), AND doesn't apologize. Will NEVER use their pharmacy again. read more
