we have a number of trees on our property including a huge cypress tree that Bartlett's has taken care of for many years. they have done an amazing job on the tree's. Filipe Martine de Souza headed the team that recently pruned the cypress and it looks fantastic and survived the wind storm last night! the tree overlaps 6 yards and they did a great shop removing branches and debris. They pruned our maples beautifully . they have consistently helped fertilize the trees and treated them when necessary for diseases. they have always been responsive, timely and informed us of their plan and why. I would highly recommend them to care for your trees. Our trees look wonderful. read more

I called Batlett Tree Service when we had a bad storm and a River Birch we had planted the previous year, was pulled partially out of the ground. My husband wanted to take it down but I really wanted to save it. Bartlett came out and said the tree could be saved with the proper treatment. They had Bobby, a Plant Health Technician come out within a week or two and he treated the tree. By the time Spring came, the tree was thriving again despite part of the roots being exposed and losing one of the main branch tops. I was so grateful that the tree was saved and straightened back out; you'd never know it was damaged. In addition, Bobby treated our Camelia's for T-scale and they have improved tremendously. The company is very good at reminding you when your next treatments are due. They also came out just to see how well the trees were doing. They have wonderful customer service and everyone from the representatives to the techs are very professional, couteous, friendly and on time. Chainsaw. At midnight?!?!?!?! You have got to be freaking kidding me!!!!! Common sense, safety, respect and decency aside, aren't there laws against this?! So last night trying to fall asleep I noticed a loud buzzing noise. First I thought it was a one stroke motorcycle circling the block. Turns out your friendly neighborhood Bartlett Tree Experts were chopping down a tree. From something like 11:30 pm to around 1:30 or 2:00 am. I got up and went to speak to the crew, pretty sure it is against some sort of noise ordinance against this type of intrusion into the quiet night. I asked the foreman who was in charge - he told me that the boss had just flown out. The other crewman told me that the foreman I just spoke to was in charge, but not to worry that they would be done soon. I realize trees need trimming. 8 am is not ideal but many people are awake. Or go for 8 pm. Several hours during the dead of the night is really not at all cool. If I EVER need tree repair these guys are going to be the very very last vendor on my list. Argh. read more

These guys show up looking professional and the guy that I briefed on the project seemed to know what he was doing....and then he left. The ACTUAL team of guys were untrained, unskilled day laborers that did a hack job and left before it was completed. It took another month to get them to come back and then it STILL wasn't finished. Overpriced on top of poor quality work. I couldn't gone to the Home Depot parking lot and hired the exact same crew myself. read more

Bartlett came to our house in San Francisco where we had a huge tree blocking the entrance to our driveway. We had three other arborist come by and do an estimate, which were all higher than Barlett. The other companies also said it was going to take a couple of weeks to come back out, assess again and then cut down the tree. Bartlett's representative, Juan, saw the tree, gave us a fair price and was able to come back within a few days to get the job done! They cleared out all remnants of the tree and even helped till the soil for our next planting. Bartlett provided an estimate, the first of four that I received, and it seemed excessively high, $6,000 to remove one tree and prune two other small trees. When I received estimates from other reputable tree service companies, I discovered that Bartlett's price was indeed way over the top. The other three estimates were half that amount and one was a third of that total. I wonder if Bartlett adds a surcharge for different neighborhoods in SF. Not only are they by far the most expensive, the office staff was very unhelpful. We did not receive a written estimate for over a week and a half, "two days at most" was promised. We found it difficult to find a responsive office person who could help find out where the estimate was. read more

I'm really surprised at the low reviews. I have always had excellent service from Bartlett. Most recently, I needed to have 5 street trees in front of a condo building trimmed back. They were blocking light and hanging low over the sidewalk. Bartlett came out very shortly after we called for an appointment. Their quote came in as the middle of three quotes, so we went with them. They arrived on time and did a phenomenal job of pruning the trees. Whereas some people make a tree look like it got a crew cut, Bartlett's work was so amazing that if you hadn't seen the trees the day before, you would not have been able to tell that they had been pruned. They retained their amazing shape, they were balanced, and you couldn't really notice where branches/leaves were removed. They kept measuring things to make sure that the tree was selectively pruned, and were sure to work in a way that kept the tree healthy. They really know their stuff! Work was completed on-time and the work site nicely cleaned up afterwards. I would absolutely use them again. read more

I highly recommend Bartlett Tree Experts. From the estimate to completion, they were timely and efficient, a pleasure to work with. My trees were pruned artfully, not butchered as a previous company had done. We had one tree removed from storm damage and the crew took it down successfully, cleaned up and removed all debris. My name is George and We live in beautiful Naples, Florida USA and Hurricane Irma wiped out our pine trees; then the beetles moved in and finished off the survivors. The forestry service offered no remedy or solutions so we called around to speak to arborists. Bartlett was the lowest quote and they came out fast to chop the trees down, put them through a chipper and leave the place nicely cleaned up. The crew was proficient and I had no problems, I would recommend them here above the others. They accept credit cards and will open an account for you. They also offer stump grinding services. They licensed and insured and the workers come to the site without drug and alcohol abuse issues, which I have seen with other companies. Maybe that's why the reviews are not so good in San Francisco but over here their great. Call CHRIS or Debbie for your tree problems. read more

Asked Bartlett Tree to cut branches hanging over my house. My neighbor refuses to cut them and they have already fallen and pulled the wires off my house. Legally I have a right to cut anything hanging over my property line. They said I needed written permission from my neighbor, which I don't. Very disappointed. Would not recommend. read more

After leaving an email, I received a response on the date and time requested. We had a 40ft monster of a tree in our 15x15 yard. I hired this company last year to spray insecticide on my fruit trees, and they do great work. The problem with them is customer service is about the worst that I've encountered in any service company in years. I've tried over several months to call them to come back, but have left at least a half dozen messages and no one ever called back. The phone number for the guy who did the work last year was disconnected, so I've been calling the main number. Once I reached a live person, who quickly said she was too busy to talk to me and said she would call me right back, but never did. It seems as if this company has too many customers already and doesn't want or need a single new customer. Maybe if you own a grove of trees and look like you'll be paying a million bucks they will return your calls. Otherwise, don't even bother. read more

Our property has numerous trees of different varieties and Juan Ochoa, our arborist, has done an amazing job taking care of them. What we love about Juan and his team is that he is always trying to save us money. Too often I suggest pruning, treatments, etc. and Juan is always the first to tell me when I don't actually need a particular service. I wish that every person who worked on our home showed the same integrity. Not only is Juan concerned with the health of our trees but he always appears interested and concerned in the general health of our entire garden. If you want any sort of value for your money, DO NOT use Bartlett Tree Experts. My neighbor recently contracted for trimming of 2 redwood trees and we agreed to contribute to the cost. Bartlett charged an exorbitant price for what they proposed to do and then didn't even do some of the things in the contract - I was there and I watched. Over two days, a three-man crew spent a grand total of 8 hours working and Bartlett charged $5,000 - you do the math. I also had a friend (a retired professional arborist) have a look and he agreed that they charged way too much for the little they did. When challenged to come back and review the work, the "Arborist Representative" (dishonest marketing guy) Wesley Des Roches, said "the job is sound and he's not comfortable doing additional trimming for fear of compromising stability". However one clause in the contract (work they completely failed to do) stated that it would improve stability so how could doing the work compromise stability! Unfortunately my neighbor didn't check Yelp before contracting with these rip-off artists. If she had, she would have found many other 1-star reviews with the same complaint - i.e. a very high-end price but low-end shoddy work. Spend your tree trimming dollars elsewhere if you want good work and good value and honesty! read more

Extremely poor customer service. The arborist specialist, Mr. J. C., was excellent at first. Punctual for our first appointment. Informative. Prompt follow up with cost estimate. Then, went off the air. We signed a contract to do the job, but did not hear back for weeks as to when it would be scheduled. I tried calling him at his office, on his cell phone, sending e-mails. No response. Almost two months went by without J.C. bothering to communicate. I spoke with the Bartlett office clerk several times. She was snippy and unapologetic. Finally, I received a curt voicemail message from J.C. saying the work crew would be coming in a few days. They did show up, and their work was good. But blowing off customers for several months without the courtesy of a call back, or a status update e-mail indicates that Bartlett Tree Experts do not have a Fig Newton's worth of respect for their clients.
