I've been looking forward all week to come to this place for a birthday dinner. The hostess was incredibly sweet and sat us down while we waited for the remaining party to arrive. The place was nicely decorated. They had a DJ in the house who was playing a mix of everything. Once the full party arrived, they instantly gave the table bowls of Maiz tostado to munch on. My ultimate favorite I decided to try out the mocktail passion fruit mojito. It was very delicious. Other had cocktails and they said it was strong and delicious. Throughout the night the DJ would shout out the birthday girls name which was fun for the table to cheer along. The food came out quickly. My salchipapas came out dry. The picada Barzola was HUGE. You can share it with 3 possibly even 4 ppl tbh. Our table enjoyed the music and began dancing on the dance floor. This eventually got other people to join. The dinner ended up turning into a dance party! Such a fun night. The servers gave us all waters after our dance session. Such a fun experience. The food I would say was not the strongest, I would pick other items next time. Incredible customer service and the DJ was great that night. Will be back again probably on a Saturday for another fun night.
This place at best is ok. I cant tell how authentic this place is as it's my first time having Ecuadorian food. We decided to come here on a whim on a random week night because we thought the restaurant it looks inviting from the outside - that was not the experience we had upon walking in. The hostess greeted us kind of awkwardly - almost as if we were a burden, not in the typical way a hostess is warm and welcoming. We were seated and spend a bit of time reviewing the menu. We waited awhile before someone came to take our order, and were ignored when we tried flagging someone down. The same hostess took our order after enough time went by and asked us if it was our first time here followed by no introduction to the menu or the food like normal servers who asked that question. It felt condescending. We ordered drinks and the muchines appetizer. The drinks came after our meal came - it really took FOREVER despite being one party of 2 out of 5 or 6 parties on that whole big restaurant. I ordered the shrimp casserole dish as my main. The muchines appetizer was amazing, and the staff who were different servers were really sweet and welcoming - but that first person who greeted us left a really bad impression. The drinks were ok and my shrimp casserole didn't taste like anything really. I needed to add a lot of lime to have something to taste. There was one jumbo shrimp that wasn't de-shelled and a bunch of smaller shrimp which weren't bad. The drinks weren't very strong and took forever to come out that we were about to cancel them before we were told they were on their way out. I felt this place was overpriced, service was ok at best (would have been great had that first person wasn't so unwelcoming). We got dessert which was the caramel tres leches and it was really good! Overall, the terribly slow and rude service was not worth the price and the ok tasting entree. Definitely wouldn't return to this place but I'm glad I tried it.
Food and ambiance 10/10. Service was slow and two things we wanted were not available but that's okay, I'll try again the next time I'm there because I will certainly be returning! They have three locations. Today we got the chaulafun and one of their breakfast dishes which came with steak and a bolon mixto. The steak is nicely seasoned and Adorned with peppers and a pepper sauce. A little small but luckily they pack the bolon with meat. Same with the chaulafun. It has pork,beef,shrimp, and eggs and plenty of it. They put a big shrimp on top adorned with a cute little flag. The fresh juices are just what you need for a brunch time meal but I would order them anytime. I wanted the arroz con crangejo but they didn't have it today I'll try my luck next time because it sounds delicious. I appreciated how clean the restaurant was. I can't wait to go back
This is still one of my favorites spots to go with my family for dinner. We came here on a Friday night a few weeks ago to celebrate my baby being able to be out in public. For a Friday night, we were seated right away and accommodated due to my stroller. The place was nicely decorated for the holidays and the stafff was super attentive. They had happy hour and our drinks came right away. Because their dishes are massive, we ordered a picada, a bolon and my parents shared a seco de chivo. The food is always so good! We end up stuff home for the next day. This place is always a good time! See you next year Barzola!
Walked into this spot on my birthday. It was the middle of the day with a party of three. Make sure you read the menu before you order. If you're a party of 3 you'll get an extra surcharge, usually it is a party of 5 or more. I ordered the skirt steak, and it was extremely huge. Half of it was made medium, even tho I asked for rare. It came with a side of fried banana. My party got the breaded shrimp and the mixto. I liked their plates too, of course I took a bite of each. I wasn't too fond of the breaded shrimp. :::BATHROOM ALERT:: I'm not sure who, but someone had blood all in the stall, but it was gross. You have to walk down a lot of stairs to get to the bathroom. If you are drinking and use those stairs, it will be deadly,I only had 1 drink. They lost half a star due to the bathroom conditions, and the restaurant wasn't packed. I ordered a frozen mojito w/ coconut. For some reason, the server didn't ask me or my mother for a second one. But the other person with us they had their drinks refilled without even asking. They lost half a star, making it 4 stars because of the bill. When the bill came, they took 18% tip which is included. We were like thats cool so we don't have to sit here and do math. They we paid and they turned the apple screen around to ask for more tip. I said why are you asking for more when we gave you like $30 for a tip? the server goes oh in case you want to give extra, my mother didn't. Finally, would I come back? I most likely would not. The prices were good though, I just didn't like the whole tip exchange or the dirty bathroom.
I've been to Barzola a few times within the last couple of years but unfortunately the quality of service has not been consistent. While their food is good and filling, the service not so much. We celebrated my husbands birthday here and I had asked for a birthday cake to be brought out to my husband it took a very long time for them to do so. We waited for the cake for a while and didn't get it until I asked for the check because we got tired of waiting. During that time we were not offered any additional food or drinks. The staff is friendly, however I would just recommend they check up on their customers more often.
Pinnacle of Ecuadorian food in NYC! All the classics I grew up with made with the same amount of love and care you'd expect from a home cooked meal. Service can leave a bit to be desired, but doesn't often detract from the experience. Interior gives a very cozy, homey vibe which will make you want to stay for hours. Make sure to try the fritada.
My friend was visiting Astoria and we decided to try Barzola for the first time and wow! I was so impressed by the attentive service from the waiters and lovely ambiance of the space. I've walked past this establishment so many times and never once gone in. I ordered the Seco De Chivo and although I tread lightly when ordering goat because I find it to be a tough meat to my surprise it was incredibly tender! The flavors were delicious I highly recommend. My friend enjoyed her chicken soup and we also ordered a shrimp ceviche with plantain chips which was yummy but a bit more watery than both of us generally like. Overall I was happy to stumble upon this gem and will definitely be back.
This is a good place for large parties! The plates are somewhat big so I recommend getting a bunch of dishes to share. The Seco de Chivo is the best thing there! The goat is so tender and the stew itself is flavorful with many spices! It was pretty big and I had to take it home. Honestly, it tasted pretty good the next day too!
As an Ecuadorian, this restaurant never disappoints. We had dinner there last night Had the seco de Chivo and the chaulafan . Everything was delicious, perfectly seasoned and just like I remember having it in Guayaquil. The service was excellent. Waiter was Personable and attentive . Always smiling ! If you're ever in the area and in the mood for authentic fresh Ecuadorian food , this place can't be beat. The portions sizes are enough to share or take home for leftovers . It was a great vibe as well
I love this place!! I always order the ceviche triple (fish, shrimp, and octopus). It's so good every single time! The hot sauce they make is very yummy and fresh. They have a few locations in queens but this one is my favorite. The service is always amazing and on point. I've had other dishes as well and they have been pretty yummy. The place is set up Wonderfully and the music they play is very goods

By far one of the WORST places to go and eat. When your food comes out before drinks that's a HUGE problem. I have worked in the service industry most of my life. We ordered our drinks at 2pm and I sat for 20 minutes staring at two bartenders doing absolutely NOTHING. There were three tables seated and no drinks were being made for us. At the end when we complained and had to rush out they still had the audacity to charge us for the beverages. Service here and communication is a joke. Don't ruin your day like I did and even bother. read more

Delicious, authentic Ecuadorian food! They did not disappoint. They were very accommodating to our large party and the service was great. I ordered the entraña (skirt steak) and it was cooked to perfection. The rice & beans, plantains, and ceviche were all delicious as well. I will definitely be returning ! read more
Arrived around 4 pm. It was very hot and sunny even though they have covered outside seating. I ordered sangria, listed on their menu, but was informed they didn't have any. This was on a social Friday. I settled for water. There were that many patrons so I received a lot of attention from our waiter. Food arrived very promptly, a bit too cold for my taste. It was a hot day so no fuss. I ordered Seco de Chivo(goat with yellow rice). I'm not sure why lemon juice or some kind of acidity was added to this dish. It was too much that I couldn't finish it. This is rare for me. I had wanted to try this place for a long time.Honestly, dishes are overpriced for the quality of food that they serve. I'm afraid I won't be going back. read more

So glad this place came into the neighborhood! I really hope they last given their inopportune opening time amidst a pandemic because their staff is extremely well trained, all very polite and attentive, their menu is extensive and covers all bases of Ecuadorian food (although I didn't notice any empanadas to my dismay & unless my Abuela has been lying to me all my life I'm pretty sure Ecuador has partial claim to them) and you get A LOT of food. My dad got the chalaufan and he remarked a few times about how he hadn't seen some of the menu items since his childhood. For the price it had a lot of shrimp. I got the shrimp and ocotopus ceviche which was AMAZING. Soooo much fresh seafood along with made in house plantain chips. It was light and refreshing and I had leftovers. Definitely recommend! They have ample indoor seating so we felt very comfortable where we were seated & they follow all COVID protocols. Being by a window also gave an outdoor dining effect which was nice. read more

The images do not match twang you actually get. The cheese on the sweet plantains do not taste like mozzarella. And the ceviche doesn't look authentic at all it wasn't good. I'm not satisfied at all. read more

Horrible service! We went here for Father's Day brunch. I understand that it's busy but other people are getting their food and drinks.. We waited for a whole 30 mins for a server- we had to ask multiple times for a cup of water, they served our appetizers with no plates, no napkins and we're still waiting for our drinks! I have not experience this kind of service. It was horrible. If only I can give 0 star. I would. Ugh UPDATE we got our food after 45 mins- we asked for a side order of rice and we're almost done with our entree we're still waiting for it. never going back. read more

It's really hard to find a good food without spending much in NYC, but this place can totally made cheap good eats happen! Pork chop was only around $15 for dinner and it was a big portion. And it was really delicious and service was pretty good. Fried calamari could be a bit crispier but I would totally come back for that pork chop. read more

This was my first time dining here with five other people. I ordered something I was familiar with and not take a chance on ordering something else and not enjoying the food. I ordered the Pork Chops with rice and beans as the side order. Each meat is individually cooked and brought to the table piping hot. The salads were fresh and delicious. Their rice and beans paired extremely well with my taste buds. When we arrived, it wasn't quite busy so we had a choice table to accommodate us and served immediately. Latino music was constantly heard. Excellent lighting for taking photos. The restrooms are downstairs is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. read more

Very happy to have stumble across this restaurant. As my first time trying Ecuadorian food, I did not recognize a lot of menu items. However, the menu description and a quick Google search helped me decide what to order. My sister and I each ordered a Coco Loco (non-alcoholic strawberry and coconut cream beverage) to drink, and it was delicious! For appetizers I shared an order of the Muchin (so good!) and a Triple Ceviche (lacked flavor) between three people. For my main course, I shared the Seco de Chivo, or goat's stew, with my sister. They did not skimp on the protein so I would say that one plate is enough to feed two people. Overall, this was a nice restaurant to try Ecuadorian food! read more

So thrown off with my end bill! The food was delish couldn't stop saying how tasty it was until my check came. It is not fair to force included tip for a party of 2 with a 4 year old child. Not to mention being forgotten by our waiter. Extra surprise at the end 3% charge that nobody tells you about. Someone needs to fix the management of this place. It is unacceptable! read more
If you haven't had Ecuadorian food, then you are missing out. You have to try the sopa de bola which is in my opinion way better than the traditional sopas. The name says it all, it's a ball of smashed platano with pieces of chicharron inside. It is packed with flavor and really delicious and filling. The restaurant is nice inside and has a very clean restroom. The food comes out pretty quick and of course hot and fresh. I definitely enjoyed every spoonful of the soup. Visited on a Saturday around 1230PM. The layout and design of the restaurant is great, spacious yet accommodating. Great natural lighting. Lovely service and they were able to accommodate our drink and food adjustments. The atmosphere at this hour was still more on the calmer side. Their food was delicious, did not disappoint. My favorite appetizer is the empanada de verde. I will be returning and I do recommend. read more
As an Ecuadorian, I am always searching for the right place to get some local homey food. My uncle and I visited here on the weekend and we were taken aback at how delish the food was. Their prices are on par with the area and the service is also pretty good. We have tried multiple things in the menu and all are very tasty. I also appreciate how authentic they've tried to remain with every single dish. It transports you to a little country named Ecuador - one with delicious food and cozy drinks. read more

Surprisingly unsatisfied for reservations!! Being that indoor dining reopens on February 12, 2021, they will NOT allow more then 4 people per table. They stated on the phone that this is a rule that has been giving to all restaurants but this is very untrue. The young lady even stated "you can call 311 for your self for the guide lines." I definitely know for a fact that this is not included in the rules governor Cuomo or major Di Blasio suggested for safety guidelines. So I proceeded to call 311 and they agreed that rule isn't at all true for NYC indoor dining, they actually guided me where the guidelines are for NYC. read more

First time here, we were pleasantly surprised. Their tables are FAR APART (social distancing) and creates a greater sense of safety and comfort. Drinks were refreshing and balanced (plenty of liquor but not to the point where you are making faces). The food was delicious. Everything we ordered was good. The drinks were great (balanced). I was really worried that we were losing amazing Latin food when Tierra Colombians closed, but Barzola is a worthy replacement! I may be a little too excited to eat out post-quarantine but this is the perfect way to end months of being inside with no dining options. Drinks were amazing--fiancé and I had mojitos and pina coladas both of which made us feel like we were on vacation! We had the Cazuela Mixta and an avocado salad with lettuce and tomato, and the Carne Apanada with a side of maduros. Everything was delicious--steak was slightly over but still medium-well (not overcooked) and the maduros weren't very sweet--otherwise a perfect meal. We'll definitely be back and we hope to see Barzola in the same splendor for many years to come! read more

Such amazingggg food!!! The calamari is delicious!! I like how it comes with limes and tomato sauce but next time please warm up the sauce! Otherwise the calamari itself was my favorite ever!!! The crab dish my bf got was good too he just would prefer if the crab meat was bigger/more of it. My seco de pollo was good (just please less bones next time). The sangria was good (we would just prefer it to be stronger next time)....overall ...the service is excellent!!! I've been here 3 times already and Robert is an excellent waiter! Highly recommend ! read more

This place is solely responsible for my love of Ecuadorian food. Any of the soups, ceviches and the muchines are amazing. Follow it up with my favorite beer which is their Ecuadorian Pilsner and you're set. read more
