The best aspect of The Finch was its beautiful views of downtown Pittsburgh's skyscrapers, Monongahela River, and subway trains. The foods and drink were a mixture of quality, and my husband called them "garbage" (eek!). Here are my ratings for them. Berry Mint Spritz - 4 stars - This mocktail (I could have ordered it with alcohol to turn it into a cocktail) contained strawberries, mint, lemon, syrup, and soda water. All of the flavor had settled on the bottom of the glass, so I could have used a straw to mix the drink, but I did enjoy the flavors. Summer Crab Cakes - 2 stars - I received two crab cakes, and they were some of the worst crab cakes that I have ever received anywhere. They contained too much breading and too little meat. I did not even like the flavor of the cherry tomatoes on the side. I usually love crab cakes, but with these ones, I could take only a couple of bites, and then I had the waitress throw away the rest. Hawaiian Pizzetta - 4 stars - This small pizza consisted of four slices that had cheese but no gooey cheese-pull. Other toppings were BBQ sauce drizzle, pineapple, ham, and red pepper. I thought that it tasted good. Ember Steak Skewers - 4 stars - My husband said that the steak was not the highest quality. At least the chunks of steak, peppers, onions, and mushroom (we counted one piece of mushroom!) were marinated and seasoned nicely. The total cost for this one mocktail, three foods, and one soda was $79 *plus* a 3% credit-card surcharge, tax, and a minimum tip of 18%. I've lived in Pittsburgh for 45 (!) years. When out for dinner, I almost always start out with a shot and a beer (a so-called "boilermaker" - supposedly born right here in Pittsburgh). But not at Firebird's. We were told - incorrectly - by our server that it is against PA state law to serve a restaurant patron two drinks at a time. But there is no such state law. AI says "According to the official Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) RAMP guidelines, there is absolutely nothing in the state's Liquor Code that restricts the number of drinks served to a single customer at once. Ordering a "shot and a beer" combo (commonly called a boilermaker) is completely legal under state law." So the policy is strictly Firebird's - odd that they won't admit that . Who would open a restaurant in Pittsburgh that serves liquor but forbids boilermakers? Who knew?

This year we celebrated my husband's 79th birthday on Memorial Day with 15 members of our family and the service, food and drinks impressed my whole family. Once again amazing! One month later in June my husband and I were diagnosed with aggressive blood cancers. It was devastating and treatment had been brutal. But a few days late we decided to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. So tonight we took one of our son's, grandson's and we went to Firebird's for our first outing since starting cancer treatments. Of course we chose Firebird's. My only gripe would be the chicken. It reminded me of the meat you get in a launchable. I think I would rather prefer a crispy diced chicken. But that's just me. The other 2 didn't have any complaints about the Rival Stix or the burger. The Chicken Tenders were said to not have much flavor in the breading. The person who ordered them didn't care for the breading. I was also tempted into some sort of creme brulee donut I think. It was really good but I was already so stuffed from the nachos that I couldn't finish it. Its for the sweet tooth folks. The general space is all sports themed as expected. Quite spacious.
