You select the bread, meat, topping, sauces, etc. There is a small up-charge for some toppings. I think you have a similar option for salads. Not sure...I always order a burger here. Pretty good burgers here at the Basement Burger Bar. We were very impressed with the quality of the meat, which is important to us. I'll preface my review by saying that I'm vegetarian, but I enjoyed eating here! There were plenty of vegetarian options including their homemade veggie burger as well as the increasingly popular Impossible Burger. Most importantly, my parents, who are meat-lovers, also enjoyed eating here. The main reason for my high-star review is because of their delicious sides! My parents and I each ordered a different side with our hamburgers. Not only were the portion sizes generous, but they were also delicious. We enjoyed their way of how to order food, which is to use a dry erase marker to check off on their laminated menu in order to build your own burger or select a specialty burger. So many options and that's just on the menu! They also had plenty of specials listed on the big chalkboard in the middle of the restaurant, including what's on tap. I went with my family on a Saturday late afternoon to the Canton location. First we were asked to wait for 45 mins even though we could clearly see that tables were available but they would not call us occupy the tables. Then finally they called us and we placed the ordee almost immediately. They served us water and we were waiting for another 45 mins for the food. We could see that other guests who came in after us were served food before us and were getting ready to leave but we were asked to wait. Upon enquiry the waitress said they were trying their best but nothing explained how they were able to serve 2 other families who came in after us while we were just waiting for the food to arrive. Both the lady waitress had no compassion nor any regard for customer service and seemed like they didn't care. This is the most ugly and horrible experience for me and my family and we will spread the word about this nightmarish treatment we faced so others can avoid such a place and not get disappointed. Came here on a business trip with a coworker who's from Novi but has never been to the nearby Basement Burger Bar. After eating there she said it was a well kept secret that she's planning on sharing with everyone, lol. I got the Band Wagon burger & I was pretty nervous because I've never eaten a burger with an egg on it. I think I devoured that huge burger in 5 minutes or less! It was different from anything I've ever had and definitely worth the risk to try something new. It was so good! Walked into this established and waited to be seated. I went in alone while my date was parking the car. No one ever came to greet us, even after being there for about 5 minutes. I felt invisible. We were the only Black patrons. I felt like we weren't wanted there. So we left upset. No one cared. Very disappointing. I like the Basement Burger in Farmington Hills, very friendly and great food! I stopped by for a quick bite on my out of town. When I walked in there were just a few tables occupied. It was right around 11 on a Saturday. When I left an hour later, most of the tables were full and the bar was getting full. This was my second time eating here and it didn't disappoint. The service is great. The food is soooooo good. We've enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service of Basement Burger Bar for several years at their original location in downtown Farmington. The Canton location is much closer to home and it has become one of our most favorite hangouts! My low-carb hubby can enjoy his meaty salad while I enjoy a portobello "burger" or their incredible flatbread with pesto and portobellos. The atmosphere is lively and friendly. Bonus nights are Thursdays at 9 and Saturdays at 10 with live Sporcle trivia contests and the chance to win BBB gift cards. Adding to the atmosphere and incredible food is the service. Everyone on the waitstaff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We are always greeted with a smile and an immediate offer for a beverage. While we've never had bad service, the best server BBB employs is Blake. Blake served us once and after that made a point to say hello on every subsequent visit when we were seated in another section. He remembers what we like to drink and even remembers our favorite menu items. Last night he brought me a take-out box before I asked, remembering I usually "eat all but the last piece to take home". This is top-notch service! He brings drink refills before we ask and the check is always timely but never rushed. He's not only an efficient server, but a genuinely kind young man. We came for Thursday night trivia at 9 pm. It was pleasantly crowded. The food here is delicious. Everyone at our table enjoyed what they got - I had a Caesar salad with fries. Next time I will try to build my own burger since everyone loved their burgers and the amount of options for toppings. Trivia was easier than most other places I've been which made it slightly more enjoyable for me. The top 2 winners get gift cards and they play 2 rounds. I would prefer trivia to start at 8 pm on a Thursday, but with a 9pm start time we only played one round. My trivia group will probably not be back to basement burger bar for trivia specifically bc others thought it was too late (9pm) and the food and beer was a little pricier than they wanted to pay. Got takeout while at my mom's in Canton the other day and LOVED it. We got 4 different burgers and a variety of sides to go and it was awesome. I went with the All-American 6oz and it was simple and perfect. Just lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and mayo on a brioche bun with cheese. It really let the meat, which had great flavor and was very juicy, shine. The toppings were fresh, and the bun was fluffy and held together really well. I also got a side of tots which held up remarkably for takeout. My husband, mom, and grandma each equally raved about their burgers. My mom got the Club Burger (ranch, lettuce, tomato, red onion, Swiss cheese and apple cider smoked bacon) with a side of beer battered fries, my husband the All-American on a pretzel bun with a side of sweet potato fries, and my grandma the Bacon Cheese Burger (thousand island, lettuce, tomato, sharp cheddar, apple cider smoked bacon and crispy onion straws...I kept stealing her onion straws. They were so good!) with a side of sweet potato fries. I definitely stole some of each of their sides and quite enjoyed them. Only critique was that my husband and I requested medium cooked burgers and my mom and grandma asked for theirs well done and all four came well done. But I'll give them a little benefit of the doubt since it was take-out and things are a little hard to keep cooked the way they should be when you're transporting it. The waiter was attentive, but the kitchen was anything but. When a place devotes an entire menu to specify every last detail of your custom burger you expect them to pay attention to what you request. The most important element is how it is cooked. Both my wife and I specified medium which was noted as "pink all the way through), but we received dry "well done" burgers. We ordered the "American Kolbe" upgrade which was wasted. Went there after visiting IKEA, and checking on yelp reviews. The place is very small, so be prepared for a wait for a table. When we finely set down and check the menu, we decided to go with the personalized burgers. They give you a marker pen and you select your choices on laminated menu. Quite fun. First of all, I have to say that this place is small. As in really small. So for the next few months expect it to be really over-crowded. I like the neighborhood bar feel. The food is great. What I really love is that there are so many choices. If you're a meat eater you can get beef, bison or kobe beef. If you're a vegetarian you can get black bean, portabello mushroom. There are so many toppings. The fries are beer battered and extra crispy, and the tots are really good too. For appetizers we had the deep fried mac and cheese ($4 apps for happy hour...bonus!) and the jalapeno poppers. Both were good, but the mac and cheese bites were my favorite. They also have salads, in case you're wondering if everything on the menu has a billion calories and fat grams. But I was in a burger and fries mood so that's what I got. Word of caution - the parking lot is TERRIBLE with big pot holes and not enough room. I hope the store owners pool their money and get it repaved, especially with all the traffic that BBB is bringing in! read more

I finally got the attention of the waitress and she took it back & put it on the grill to re-heat the one 1/2 that I'd not bitten. I was kinda "lost" on the 1/2 with the bite out of it! Their French fries are "to die for" delicious!! Oh My Gosh, they're the best ever!! Lastly, I got the "cookie monster " for dessert and I enjoyed every single bite!! So I ended up with a Bison Tropical Burger on a wheat bun. Eh. Not greasy like Five Guys, but not flavorful. The bison was not seasoned, and the taste of the pineapple didn't even shine though! Seriously couldn't taste it was there! Shared a basket of sweet potato fries with my friend. They were decent. Almost wanted them to come with the butter on them, they looked and were a little dry. Good place for a beer and a burger exactly how you like it. I've been a couple times, once with a group and another time just Boyfriend and I. Fair warning: it was completely packed both times. With the group, we actually called ahead, still had to wait, and then sat half of us at a table and the other half at the bar. Boyfriend and I sat at the bar (I don't know why more people don't do this, it's awesome). With the group it was probably a Friday night, but with Boyfriend it was a Thursday at like 5 or something. Still insane in there. The food, drinks and service are good though. So, instead of giving me instructions, she kept us waiting there and came back like10 minutes later. Eventually, I got it right and let me tell you, this burgers amazing. The burger was amazing!! Holy goodness was it awesome. This place was totally worth the drive. I just went with the regular meat, but dang it, I was in love! My friend went with the macaroni bites, but I didn't try them. I was to engrossed with the burger! Overall I had a good time. Granted, the waitress could have explained their "different" ordering style, but she was good overall. Very pleasant service. Their prices are on the high end, but you're getting a premium product for your money. If you're in the mood for a good burger, this is the place to be. One last thing. The parking lot is way too small for the number of businesses in the plaza. It's also in poor condition. They have been trying for months to fix it, but never seem to be finished. Well i gotta say that we went on Valentine's Day so right there could be the reason for the bad service. But the food was excellent... mine was anyhow... actually, even my girlfriend's food was the "best burger she had ever eaten" (so said she) despite them screwing up her order twice... We spent an hour in line (despite there being empty tables???) and another hour or more at the table waiting for our food. We each ordered a salad with a beef patty medium rare. My daughter ordered a shake and a nacho with only cheese. By the time our dinners arrived we were not about to NOT eat it cuz we were so hungry! My gf ordered her burger (medium rare, as mentioned) with mushrooms and feta. It came well done, with feta on top but without mushrooms. She pointed that out and they tried to take her entire plate away... she said "NO i wanna EAT" so they took her burger off her plate... and returned with a small pate of mushrooms and a second burger well done (again) and this time without the feta... she pointed that out. The manager offered to get her yet another burger but because the kitchen was so busy and each burger took so long it made no sense and she ate it piece meal. The manager said "oh since you had this bad experience i will make sure i give you a discount".... i said to her when he left, that if i were manager i would have given her dinner to her for free; it was pretty crappy way to eat... When we got the bill, the manager had given her the employee discount off her meal - 50%. I thought that was ridiculous. But I'll definately go there again. My kid built their own salad and I built my own burger. Both tasted absolutely amazing. My kid (who claimed they were starving) also opted for a brownie milkshake and bacon mac & cheese bites. 4.5 stars impression on first visit! I visited this place yesterday with a couple of friends. They said you could get a very good burger here, but didn't say much else. When we went, I found it to be a "build your burger" place, much like the old Ottowa Tavern that I used to enjoy. The place was small, but I hear it is always busy and it was so, even after the main lunch hour on a Sunday - and I can understand why: the burgers are excellent. I love the options offered. You select your bun, the meat (I chose bison, which I was very happy with as it was juicy and very flavorful), the sauce and toppings. There was quite a large selection of each. The sides were also good. I was also happy to see a decent craft beer selection on draft and I got an Atwater Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale, which I felt complemented my burger and toppings very well. They have a lot of really interesting options that I think will help you create a burger that's catered to your tastes, but other than that, a pretty typical burger place. I ended up getting the mac and cheese bites (which were SO good) but 7.50 for basically 8 pieces of mac and cheese bites was a little pricey. I got a turkey burger and it was unfortunately incredibly rubbery and bland. I ended up eating everything but the meat. If you come here, don't get the chicken or turkey. The Kobe beef was pretty good though. Tldr: mac and cheese bites rocked, but overpriced. Not worth coming here if you don't eat beef. read more
