I absolutely love this place! The last time I was here, I was with my family and we had Vianney as the waitress. She was fantastic and had a great sense of humor and really took care of us. Highly recommend her! My husband said that we were celebrating me getting into my doctorate program (Fight on!). I didn't think much of it, but at the end of the meal, she brought over a mochi dessert that had the word "congratulations" on it. That simple, thoughtful and delicious act totally did it for me! Definitely request an outdoor seating arrangement if you can, especially on a clear beautiful day. The views are absolutely stunning. They have umbrellas, so you don't have to worry about sitting in the sun. The food is awesome! I love the Watercress salad, miso soup, and their sushi rolls! I got the roll that had the ume in it and it was really delicious. We ended up getting the Ube cheesecake and the Meyer lemon one. The Ube cheesecake was my favorite for sure! Parking can be tricky if it's a popular time. We ended up having to valet because there were no spots in the free parking area. If you do end up getting vallet, they can validate it so that you only have to pay 15 or $20 for parking. They are kid friendly, and they will give your kiddos some crayons and coloring sheet menus, which is great! It was such an enjoyable experience! They also have a kids menu and the kids food came out super quickly! Everything we ordered was delicious and we split it family style. The watercress salad was amazing, highly recommend. Such beautiful leaves and overall presentation to the salad and the dressing really takes it to a whole new level - I could have that dressing on every salad and be happy. It's a creamy sesame dressing. Shishito peppers were tasty. We got the California blossom roll and subbed sea bream for salmon and I thought it was delicious! We also got lobster fried rice which also had a beautiful presentation and was very delicious. Great for sharing. Our waitress Vianey was amazing! What a wonderful dinner experience. We were staying at the resort and made a reservation at Bashi for our final night. So glad we did. We sat outside on the patio. Beautiful setting and nice heat lamps for the cooler evenings. Our wait staff were helpful and did not rush us. The food is served family style and comes out as soon as it is ready so our waiter suggested ordering a little at a time. We started with the spring rolls and bang bang shrimp. They were both wonderful. The bang bang shrimp is a must get again! We then got a Red Dragon Roll which was fresh, flavorful and just the right heat. For our entrees we ordered the Wok Fried Garlic Noodles with Beef and the Crispy Seabass Filet. We will definitely get the seabass again and probably more than one order as there were four of us and we could have easily eaten just the seabass! We shared 2 desserts as well. The Whiskey Miso Bread Pudding which was a bread pudding made of croissant bread with whiskey and a to-die-for hot brown butter miso sauce. Served with the vanilla bean gelato. So yummy. The Vegan Meyer Lemon Cheesecake was unbelievable as well. The walnut crust and lemon cheesecake made of almond milk, cashews and cocoa butter was perfect. HE is RISEN! We celebrated Easter here yet again with my family, and it honestly couldn't have been a better experience. We got to sit in our usual spot right in the center, overlooking the ocean and pool, such a beautiful view and always our favorite. Our fur baby Louie got to join us, as always, which made it extra special. Everything we ordered was so good, from the sushi to the shaken beef to the miso soup. And the beer definitely hit different after giving it up for Lent lol! They also added chicken skin on their menu and my husband enjoyed that a lot! We also tried the ube cheesecake, and wow... it was seriously so good and exactly what we needed to end the meal. I am always a little wary of asian fusion restaurants, but the food served here was well prepared with quality ingredients. We were correct in assuming that the cooked entrees would be a better option than the raw fish, as the hamachi carpaccio while tasty, was cut a bit too thick and the flavor of the fish was lost in all the garnish. The Bang Bang Shrimp was a much better option, served with a generous portion of beautifully plump shrimp in a sauce as sweet and savory as expected. The crispy sea bass was also delicious with the light crispy crust giving way to the juicy and flaky fish. I was impressed with the execution of both dishes which were well balanced for both asian and non-asian palettes. If Bashi were open for dinner any earlier than 5pm, I would think that the patio location would be too busy and loud to create a romantic ambiance. But as the sun begins to set beyond the glow of the lights of the main pool and cliffs, it creates a very pleasant space to enjoy a nice dinner. We got the Bashi hamachi roll with spicy albacore, yellowtail, yuzu de gallo, serrano cucumber, with a balsamic glaze. We came here 2 nights in a row to celebrate my niece's 40th birthday while staying on the property. We were impressed with the food both nights, but we were only impressed with the service we received from Tim the first night. Server Tim was attentive, gracious & warm from beginning to end. He went out of his way to acknowledge my niece's birthday, which I really appreciate! Our food came out at a paced speed: Green Beans - tender, wok tossed & served dressed in a mildly spicy soy based sauce. These were so delicious, it was my favorite dish & we ordered it both nights. Crispy Rice w/Spicy Tuna - sadly the only food disappointment; the rice was cold & so densely packed before cut into squares, that it was a bad kind of chewy - & not crispy at all. The spicy tuna was good, but this was still a regrettable choice. Kaisen-Don - a chirashi-like bowl of very fresh uni, tuna, salmon, ikura, tamago, scallop, masago, hamachi w/a dab of yuzu pepper, spicy tuna, seaweed salad, sushi ginger & wasabi over sushi rice. This was such a big hit with us, we repeated it the next night. Shaking Beef - super tender chunks of beef on a layer of thinly sliced potato, in a delicious sauce, & a dish of lime juice to accent the flavors. Delish! Tim even had Fernet Branca brought over from the next door Catalina Kitchen to serve me a shot as a digestif. I needed that after overindulging in the garlic noodles! The following night, we returned & all the food we ordered was excellent (Kaisen-Don, Green Beans, Brussel Sprouts, Chili Mansi roll, Bashi Hamachi roll, Yukimi martini). We should have asked for Tim that night, but we had a different server. He set 2 big bottles on our table when we ordered a sparkling water to share "just in case we wanted a 2nd one". We had barely finished the 1st one when we asked for the check. Without asking us, he cracked open the 2nd one & was about to pour when we stopped him, saying we didn't ask him to do that & we were done. He said "well, since I've opened it you can just take it with you". We were taken aback at his premeditated blatant upselling after warm service through our meal. Only after I protested, did he take the bottle away & remove the charge from the bill. What an icky move to dump on us. I've been coming to Bashi's for over 10 years and have always loved this place, which is why this is so disappointing to write. Recently, we've come a few times and spent hundreds of dollars, only to notice that the portions have been cut down to almost half of what they used to be. It honestly feels very misleading. The shaking beef was about half the portion we used to get. The garlic noodles were also noticeably smaller. The crispy rice sushi used to come as four generous pieces, and now it looks like it's just two pieces cut in half to appear like four. As a long-time loyal customer, this is really upsetting. I understand costs go up, but reducing portions this drastically while customers are paying the same prices is not okay. Sadly, it no longer feels worth the money. read more

The ambiance at Bashi is hard to beat, the stunning backdrop of the Palos Verdes cliffs and upscale/modern vibe really enhances the dining experience. Service was great and very attentive matching the restaurant's refined feel. But parking can be hit or miss. There's a small visitor lot and if it's full, you'll have to park on the street--which can mean a bit of a walk. As for the food, it was a bit underwhelming, especially given the price point. We started with the wok charred shishito peppers which had a tasty sauce. The spicy pork and chicken dumplings were decent, though nothing stands out beyond the good sauce. The best dish of the night was the shaken beef (tender, flavorful, and well-cooked). On the other hand, the sea bass was a letdown a bit tough and likely overcooked but again the sauce was good. The wok-tossed garlic noodles were on par but for the price, I expected more in terms of flavor and uniqueness. The star of the meal was dessert - the Whiskey Miso Bread Pudding was phenomenal, rich with flavor, and absolutely worth trying. Not to sound spoiled but we celebrated every birthdays and bashi has been our go to every month. The servers used to be so nice and always made us feel welcome which is why we always come back. The restaurant itself is not that big. Half of its seating is indoors while the other half is outdoors. Most of the tables inside are meant for seating for parties of 4 and parallel the bar that extends almost the entire length of the indoor part of the restaurant. We opted for indoors given the colder weather, but they do have heat lamps outside. If you're looking for a restaurant with a view, it doesn't have the view that you'd expect based on some of the pictures since the restaurant is part of the resort and it's not right off the coast. But you can see the ocean passed the umbrellas and open field. Parking can be an issue. When you arrive on Terranea Way, about 100 yards in, you'll come to a guy at a booth who can direct you to valet parking or self-parking. There's a self-parking lot to his left or parking along the street along Terranea Way from Palos Verdes Drive which is about .2 miles. If you don't find anything, then you'll have to resort to valet parking. You may want to come after 6 or 7 p.m. when some of the parking opens up as I'm guessing many of the hotel guests end up going off the premises for dinner. When we arrived, there were only a couple spots left but when we left at 7 p.m. there were plenty, even in the parking lot. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of the resort so take the elevator down (you'll be on the 4th floor when you enter the resort's main lobby) to the 2nd floor. To start, we were greeted by two hostesses. The first hostess, I think she was in training, wasn't very friendly and didn't know very much. Not a good start, but the second hostess saved the day when she interjected, took over, and escorted us to our table. Whew! From there, service was really good and friendly. Props to our server, Timothy H...if you see him, you might recognize him in some films. As for the food, it's mostly Japanese infused and everything we ordered was on point so not much else to say. It looks like their menu does change frequently so I wouldn't rely too much on the menus that you see posted here. They provided a free dessert for our birthday celebration, and it was great! We got the lunch appetizer specials: edamame, spicy pork and chicken dumplings, and spicy tuna cripsy rice. Then we decided to share the lobster fried rice and shaking beef with cilantro lime dipping sauce. Wow, the food was huge portion and full of flavor. I'm so glad we shared it and had plenty of left overs for the next day. The views were amazing and I felt like we were in Hawaii. The restaurant is connected to a resort, which is not exclusive to the guests who stay there and is accesible to the public. The day was beautiful and I got to enjoy the blue skies and the cute little hummingbird who came to visit while we chilled with our drinks. So dreamy and a day to remember, for sure! Love love love this restaurant and always never fails that the staff is so nice!!!! Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. The food is 10 outta 10! They seem to improve every time we go there (over the years)! Had spicy tuna cut rolls, garlic noodles, chefs special kimchi fried rice, calamari, miso soup, watercress salad, and jasmine green tea. All delicious! I wish I remembered our servers name she was 100% superb! I do know she had some really cool tattoos! Will be back of course! Thank you Bashi and Terranea as usual! read more

Bashi is truly a hidden gem. the drive up to the resort was breathtaking! once we arrived, we couldn't wait to relax and grab a bite. the staff was very polite and seated us promptly. the views up here are stellar. the menu was sea and asian inspired and we tried quite a few different dishes, california roll, shrimp tempura, calamari, and a veggie soup. they were all seasoned very well and refreshingly fresh! i highly recommend visiting soon! read more

I didn't have high expectations for Bashi but I have to admit the place was pretty good a bit pricey but that's expected for the location of the restaurant. Overall great seating and atmosphere and service was exceptional! They had Vegan Options and normal which helped a lot. Celebrating a birthday and they had a dessert for the birthday girl with candles as well. From what I could see the Sushi was pretty good and definitely the Garlic Noodles were good as well as the Vegetable Roll. The Vegan Chocolate Cheesecake is not made by them they source it from a local bakery and it was good the texture was okay but the flavor was good. I would come back to this place if I wanted to choose a good place at Terranea to eat. read more

So, We visited Bashi today for the second time, and sadly, this visit left us feeling disappointed and unwelcome. The first time we came, we were seated without any issues, even without a reservation. Today, we arrived a little after 3 PM with our senior patient, a 90-year-old Jewish woman in a wheelchair. We're just trying to give her a nice dinner out. While waiting outside, I politely asked a waiter what time they open. He responded, but with an odd attitude, and told us we'd need a reservation, something we weren't asked for on our last visit. He then said he needed to "clean the table" we were sitting at... even though it was already clean. It felt like he just wanted us to leave.We came back around 5 PM, still hopeful for a better experience. But then at the front desk, Melissa, told us we'd have to be done and out by 7 PM. Really? With a 90 year old in a wheelchair? It felt rushed and impersonal, as if we were being shuffled out rather than welcomed in.We've been coming to Terranea weekly and usually enjoy our meals at Catalina Kitchen. We decided to give Bashi another try, but after this treatment, we won't be coming back. The service lacked basic kindness, the atmosphere wasn't welcoming, and the food wasn't worth it. Disappointing all around. Hospitality should feel warm, not like this. read more
