Local gem in Diamond Bar. I've been here a few times now and I'm always surprised they aren't busier as the food is delicious and the service is extremely kind. All of the items I've tried so far are great but I really enjoy dan dan noodles and the one here is amazing! It has a really nice, addicting heat to it. Another favorite are the beef rolls. It wasn't dry and there was a right amount of spread. The millet porridge surprised me (I'm used to white rice congee) - it was $1.99 and so comforting and cozy. It would probably be amazing to have when you're feeling under the weather. Also, when you order takeout, they line the container with foil for some items; it's a nice "not cheaping" out detail. In the age of trendy tiktok spots and consumerist gimmicks, it's refreshing to eat at a local mom and pop shop. Flavor Noodle House is run by an older couple, the kind woman is the server and her husband is the cook. (Note that she is currently recovering from an injury so please give grace and have patience when eating in.) I remember the first time I came here, I was moved by how nice service was. You can even feel the joy and kindheartedness through the phone when you're calling in to place an order. Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but good hospitality goes a long way. This place is so close to me and the owners are so sweet and friendly I just want to come and work here part time and maybe get to have a lunch break that feels like visiting home. The best comment I got was being asked if I'm from Taiwan not because of my 'accent' but because Taiwanese people always order green onion pancake. It's just there's so much food I can eat in one sitting and she got me. Then came to talk me into the beef rolls as it's what they're famous for on top of noodles and rice noodles. I.. didn't need much convincing at that point to break my vegetarian diet. And boy, it was worth it. These beef rolls were the bees knees. The pancakes are homemade, generous marinated beef, just like what I grew up with down to the cilantro and scallion. I'm good for the next couple of years or until the next time I decide to donate blood and a chocolate chip cookie just won't cut it. Fried rice was perfect. If you're a fan of peas or green beans, you'd love the egg fried rice! And to my utter delight, the noodles are very fresh, firm and springy. These noodles are perhaps some of the best fresh, thick noodles that I'd ever tasted. Next, the Beef Roll is humongous! It easily feeds two people, and it's a bargain for its price-point. The Beef Roll is not too oily; rather, the flavor of fresh beef and herbs pop as you bite into it. The wrapping did arrive a little soft, but it holds the fresh filling very well. I arrived at Flavor Noodle House (Diamond Bar) on Sunday (around 11AM). Staff is very friendly and welcoming. I pointed at my menu to order, and staff immediately understood and shared a bright smile. All the food arrived around 14 minutes. I also appreciated the ambiance. Flavor Noodle House is about as mom and pop as you're going to get. It's run by an older asian couple and they are exactly what you expect. If you make small talk and get in their good graces, you get the mom and pop local treatment. If you make things difficult, they'll respond in kind ^_^ My dad and my little brother have local status and we've been enough times that they know us as well; they're actually quite sweet if you get to know them. Anyway, regarding the food, it's quite good. A couple of recommendations from us. Zha Jiang Mian - Solid Chinese Zha Jiang Mian. The noodles are good, the sauce has the right amount of dried tofu and meat, and it tastes like what it's supposed to. Approved by my kids and my dad so it's cross generational. Go figure. Lamb Noodle Soup - This is where it's at for me. I personally love lamb and my experiences with their soup have been solid. No complaints. The times we've tried it, the lamb was clean with good flavor, the broth wasn't overpowering, it was just a good bowl of lamb soup. Home Style Fried Pancake - My dad's favorite dish is this one, my wife also likes this quite a bit, but I'll put a caveat on it because it's nothing more than it says it is. If you like the flavour of a well made dough, this is for you. My dad loves a well made noodle or bun for its own sake. There isn't special sauce or seasoning, it's about a quality homemade bing. That's all it is. If you like that, you'll probably like this. We like this place and we like the people. They're a hardworking mom and pop duo that's putting their own food out there and we appreciate it. This hole in the wall place is completely family owned and they specialize in handmade noodle/dumpling dishes. It definitely helps if you speak Mandarin as I'm not sure if the lady speaks english? The menu itself is pretty standard with noodles, dumplings, some cold dishes and some rice dishes. The beef noodles were super tasty with a rich broth without being overly oily. The beef was tender and tasty. The Beef Rolls are absolutely BOMB here if you love cilantro since it's packed full of it. It has the perfect amount of sauce to meat to veggie ratio with every single bite. Yes the service can be slow here since it seems like literally only the husband in the kitchen and the wife in front are the staff here. So be patient especially during peak rush hour times, the food is worth the wait not to mention how friendly they are in making sure everything is OK. I also hesitated to write this review as I would like to support local businesses and hoping they last. I understand times are challenging but the quality control remains crucial as long as you're in the restaurant industry. I gave them the benefit of the doubt but after seeing this review (attached) it's almost shocking how we experienced the same exact thing with the same dish: fried rice. Literally the same situation, having the rice the next day and after being heated, the smell was bad and strange. My mom and I were the ones that had bites and since then we have been puking and having diarrhea (symptoms of food poisoning) for the entire afternoon/night in hopes it didn't carry over til the next day. I've never experienced food poisoning as bad as this one with continuous nausea , puking and visits to the toilet. I am so glad my little ones (3 & 4 yo) didn't end up having it because when my parents dined in they already felts weird about this simple fried rice being overly spiced with peppers. I'm all sharing in hopes that the restaurant would be more cautious in their ingredient selection to avoid causing harm or inconveniences to the customers... please and thank you ! The lady was so sweet and helpful. The breading is super dry and the filling was 90% cilantro. Tendon beef noodle soup (4/5): The soup was super light, not soy saucy like other restaurants, which I really enjoyed. The noodle was okay. We stopped by on an early Sunday evening and was a little apprehensive given that the place was empty. However, let's give it a shot. The beef and beef with tendon noodle broth itself is pretty good. But there's not very much beef. The tendons were too mushy and not very fresh. The simmered beef, which I ordered to go was ok, tender but flavorless. The beef roll was pretty bad. Pretty much more than half of it is filled with cilantro and you can barely taste the beef. So was the green onion pancake which had no flavor and tasted weird. Too much breading and not enough onions. But the worst part was the service. It started out okay since we were the only ones there but as the evening wore on and as soon as they got a couple other parties, they suddenly became rude and gave a huge attitude when we were trying to split the bill/payment for a to go order. I have hesitate to write this review for days now, but I have decide to share my experience for the better good of this place's future. I have brought my family to this place couple of times, and the experience has always been good, which lead us to come back for more. The service is nice, food is decent too, we always want to support local business. On Chinese New Year Eve, I have came to order one beef roll and one shrimp fried rice 40mins before they close, just want to have some food on the table for the family. During the same night, I ate the beef roll and few bites of the fried rice, my daughter and wife had the beef roll as well. The next morning my 7yo daughter woke up had a few bits of the fried rice and told my wife the rice smell and taste bad. I got mad at her for not appreciating food. Then my son had a bowl, and I had a few more bites, my wife ate a bowl as well. Few hours later, my daughter start to throw up non stop for few hours straight, then my 3yo son start to puke non stop. My wife and I were trying to backtrack what the kids had all day, and it was only the fried rice. While I was taking care of my daughter apologizing to her she has great sense of smell, that food poisoning puke feeling came up for me as well, end up throwing up all night since I ate the most. My wife handle it better than all of us, but she end up having diarrhea all night. So we were sure it was the shrimp fried rice not the beef roll. Food poision happens from time to time, but seeing my whole family getting taken down from New Year until now, seeing my 7 yo daughter running back and forth to the toilet, and my little 3yo son puking every 2-3 mins into the trash bag broke my heart. My kids are very healthy, they hardly get sick......, we are talking about maybe 2 times through 7 years, and it was both during teeth growing time. Seeing them getting food poison was really hard for both my wife and I. More than 24 hours later, they body finally stabilized, we thought everything was good, but due to their immune system barely recovered from the food poison, my son end up getting fever for 2-3 days straight, while I was taking care of him, I got the fever too, end up having heavy bronchitis...... it was just not how I imagine starting our Chinese new year. Little son lost 2 lb while I lost 6 from this whole experience. I understand food poison happens from time to time, but if the cook and the restaurant owner can be more careful, my family and I could have been saved from all these pain and suffering. While I'm typing this whole experience, my son and I are still coughing nonstop...... This whole experience happened since Lunar Chinese new years until now.......we haven't able to work, catch up on kids school......, we lost so much just because the food....., very disappointed read more
