It is always busy, but seems there is always a table either available, or being wiped down for ya. This visit we deviated from our normal spring rolls, and we ordered the fried shrimp egg rolls for starters and my eyes rolled back into my head. Somehow these crispy delights taste similar to chicharrones! Thank you pork fat! With a blended shrimp filling and a nice sauce for dipping. Next up, Hubs and I shared the pad thai because it is HUGE (3 adult servings at least) and we enjoyed every morsel. But the best part is you don't leave feeling like you need a nap. It's been 3 years of visiting this place at least once per month and just realized I have never reviewed it. This was the first restaurant we visited when we moved here. Ever since this has been our greatest source of comfort food with their delicious pho. A regular plate should be enough but they do have a large one just in case you need a lot more pho. Their sandwiches are good, especially the one with grilled pork. If you want dry noodles with a lot of flavor, the grilled pork noodle bowl should satisfy your appetite. The pan seared fillet mignon is delicious and minimalist. And today, for the first time I had the sizzling clay pot with pork and it was to die for! Every server we have had is great, so great that some of them know our regular orders precisely. Food comes out fast every time! DO NOT COME HERE! My family and I used to love this place having consistently coming back for the pho, lemongrass chicken, and good service. We came back last night and the pho tasted like dirty laundry. I am not kidding. At first I ignored it, but as I began looking around the people in the front are dropping clean spoons onto the floor and wrapping them to serve to people. Our server was ridiculously rude. Not to mention she was cleaning off the tables and throwing the food onto other plates and our shoes. I am so disappointed in this place and have not experienced such a horrible dining experience. I had a business lunch here and I had to take my food home, and not only did my partner eat his dinner off of it but we had leftovers! The portions were epic. It seemed like everyone in the restaurant was eating pho or ramen. But I got the Stir Fry tofu w/vegetable w/flat noodles. And the price was beyond reasonable. The staff was friendly and attentive. I am blown away by the efficiency of this staff. Not only does the food come out fast and hot, but it's also delish!!! Stopped by to grab the green curry and pad Thai for take out for dinner. The parking lot is pretty small, however, there's a lot of to go orders so many of the cars park for a short amount of time. The interior of the restaurant is pretty spacious and can fit a lot of customers. The green curry taste amazing. It's loaded with ingredients. It cost $1.50 more to add chicken. The pad Thai was alright. It wasn't good and it wasn't bad. It was a little gelatinous and the noodles tasted pretty bland. If you load it with hot sauce it's not too bad. To add tofu was $2.00. I've been to Basil Leaf several times. Out of all the vietnamese restaurants in ABQ, I think this is probably the one that looks most hygienic/welcoming to Westerners (ambiance and hygiene wise). The menu is large, the portion is good and I can find something that I usually don't get in many Vietnamese restaurants like Banh Xiao (Vietnamese tumeric crepe) there. Overall, this is a good place to take people who are not accustomed to Vietnamese food to go expand their senses and try something new. It's a safe place and won't weird most people out. I wouldn't say it's the best deal price wise..but given it offers pretty much safe experiences for people who may want to try to venture and try something new..and somewhat more original taste of Vietnam, this place is a good place to take people to try something new! read more

ANother hidden gem in a non-descrip building. We started lemon grass beef spring rolls. Our entrees were meat ball & brisket pho with won tons, and green curry with chicken, broccoli and bamboo. The pho was loaded with brisket & wontons, the heat was a respectable medium and flavorful. The green curry was sweet and creamy with a bite at the end of a spoonful. This seems to be the go-to lunch location for the area because when I got here it was packed and could barely find parking. Some people even started parking at the dentist office next door and walking over. It appears the shopping center on the other side knows this problem and has specific signs to try to deter Basil Leaf customers from parking in their lot. Regardless the food was surprisingly good for Albuquerque. This place is known for the Pho which they do decently. Nothing that makes my eye pop out of my head but enough to satify that itch in your stomach for beef bone broth. My less exploratory friends often get the more "safe" dishes which seem to be great. They also have plenty of tofu dishes if you're vegetarian. My favorite here though is the clay pot rice. Maybe I'm biased because of the Hong Kong'er in me, but I just love how the flavors of everything in the pot permeate each other as it cooks together. However, it seems the meat might be put on after the pot was cooked. I think they have a separate line of grilled meats that goes into most dishes on the menu, which is fine. But one of the magical things about claypot rice is that the fat from the meat permeates into the rest of the ingredients. However, the dish is still very good. read more

Have heard really good things about this place from coworkers and it was definitely worth the hype. We pulled up and this place was JAMMIN' on a Saturday evening. Was greeted immediately when we walked into the door, given ice waters immediately. Everything was very clean from tables to bathroom. Me and my partner ordered the beef pho I asked for extra veggies he got extra steak. Their lemongrass chicken spring rolls were delicious for an appetizer the peanut butter sauce was creamy and sweet.
