Came on a Friday night an hour before close and it was a little busy, but it got busier towards closing. I was really hungry tonight and I gotta say I was really let down by the portion size of #48, 3 shrimps, beef portion could have been more, and there should have been more rice... especially when you're paying extra for broken rice. Egg was cooked fine, but really would want Vietnamese egg cake... egg roll was good along with the bean curd wrap. Sauce was good, it tasted similar to my mom's style. Overall my rice dish was just a tease because of portion size. My fiancé got the S3 per the usual.. her plate was full of shrimp. My fiancé liked her dish, today I though it a little lacking and there was way too much sauce. Thai iced tea was good. I usually get Pho or Bun Bo Hue and it seems that is what you should get to get your money's worth.. not the rice dishes. Today service was lacking as they seemed a little short handed.. we didn't even get utensils with napkins, we got it ourselves and so did another couple. Quite possibly one of the most authentic and best restaurants in Rio Rancho, which amazingly enough the only other restaurant in Rio Rancho so I considered to be out this caliber in the same parking lot, moving back here after spending seven years in Southern California, especially being a self proclaimed foodie while I fell in love with Vietnamese food no Vietnamese sandwiches or something that I've been eating half my life now something I have always really liked. I've tried six places here in the Rio Rancho in Albuquerque area some places having some of the highest reading I've ever seen, but their food is not authentic if you want real Vietnamese restaurant food go here you won't regret it. Excellent service, we were seated right when we walked in and our drink order was taken immediately. Our server checked on us throughout the meal as well. Started off with their grilled pork spring rolls which have a delicious crunchy baton inside. The variety of textures is a delight: chewy rice wrapper, crisp lettuce, crunchy baton, and tender pork and noodles. Noodle bowl: Noodles and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Came to the Cafe Trang's Pho Bar on Saturday, January 28, 2023, with my lovely wife. We'd been wanting to visit here every time we spotted it on our way to the Brew Lab. Note: they are closed on Sundays. A delightful young waitress took our order with a smile. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls (2 for $6.25) with peanut sauce. These came out in a dish shaped like a boat. They were a bit dry for my taste and the shrimp tasted overcooked and rubbery. I think they could have done a much better job with this appetizer. I ordered the Ca Bong Lau Xao, lightly fried catfish nuggets with noodles and black-pepper sauce for $11.75. Unfortunately, the cook or waitress messed up because they brought out rice instead of noodles. Despite that mistake, this dish had an excellent light flavor with a minimal amount of breading on the fish. The sauce they put under the fish had an excellent tangy flavor, but there wasn't enough to thoroughly coat each piece of fish. The service was quick but the attention to detail was lacking. Main meal tasted great, but I'd skip the appetizer. They are generous with their portions and I would try them again to see if they can get my order right since my main dish had delicate flavor. read more

We had the large rare steak pho and por banh mi. $18. Good news bad news. Bad news. The pho was watery and tasteless. The steak and noodles had good texture. Even still, this was one of the worst phos we have had in a while. Good news. The pork banh mi was awesome. The bread was great, the meat was great, the sauce was great and all of the veggies were great. I'd recommend asking to have them add some jalapeno slices to make it pop. But, this was the best Banh Mis we have had in a while and I can't wait to go back for more. The staff was friendly and prompt. And all the dishes at our neighboring tables looked great. Need a stop for lunch, looking for something we don't usually eat. So here we are. Lots of seating available, grab a booth and read the menu - 5 pages worth. Too many options each sounds delicious. We need more time, pork spring roll appetizers should give it to us. I zero in on the Xào Xã Őt (curry stir fry) - with pork & noodles. As advertised it was hot, but not too much. The stir fried veg were nice & crisp while noodles were not over done. Adding the fish sauce gave it excellent flavor. My wife ordered the chicken fried rice. Equally flavorful, chicken was tender and not dry and the rice was flaky vs sticky. Did I mention there was a lot of food. To go containers for lunch tomorrow. Prices were reasonable especially given the amount served and quality. Service was good, she came by often to check on us. This deserves a return trip to work our way thru the menu. My first time at a Pho Bar I wasn't sure what expect. Plenty of parking, with plenty of Handicap spaces. Upon entering it has 3 decent sections to eat at, my friends were seated, had their drinks and each had a spring roll, they said was very good. I sat immediately the waitress came with my menu and asked what I would like to drink. Jasmine tea and some time to check out the menu. I decided on a small Pho Tai, the beef was tender, the broth tasty, the rice noodles just right. My friends also had Pho Tai, we enjoyed our meal and great conversation. Very good, had the combination Pho which was quite nice and well balanced. Nothing overpowered the flavor of the broth, the choice of chili oils was also a treat especially when I don't overdo it, otherwise it complimented the broth as it should. The Ban mi was ok, the bread was a nice treat as was the ham, the supposed foi gras just got in the way, sometimes less is more. The place was clean and the service was on point. This is a real different, for me. I have only eaten Vietnamese food once before, at a place in Albuquerque, on San Mateo. The food at that San Mateo establishment was insipid. Because of such a rotten experience, I swore off Vietnamese food for years. But Pho Bar is completely and totally different. We had planned on going somewhere else, but couldn't so we decided to try Pho Bar. I'm so glad that we did. We got there for a late lunch on a Saturday, so seating was easy. I like the Pho Bar on the back wall, it's classy. The service was attentive and pleasant. They were patient with us as we tried to learn a little more of the Vietnamese culture. When it comes to Vietnamese food, it's out of my experience. And I won't even try to pronounce the names of the dishes, as I'd completely slaughter the pronunciation. Personally, I'd hate to dishonor their culture by messing up how badly I'd pronounce their dishes. Fortunately, I took some pictures of the menu, so I can write the dishes we had. I had the Banh Hoi Dac Biet, which has grilled pork, grilled shrimp, pork sausage and shrimp sausage wrapped on a sugar cane. WOW, was that ever delicious!!! My wife had a similar dish, but with chicken instead of pork. I think it was the Banh Hoi Thit Ga Guong. (Please excuse the vagueness of my inexperienced descriptions.) Each of us loved what we ate and shared with one another. This experience single handedly has changed my view of Vietnamese food. We will return to Pho Bar. read more

I used to go this place from 2018-2022. Larry was always the friendly worker that was the face of the restaurant. He always made sure my order was correct and up to par. Around 2021, Larry was no longer there when I showed up. About 4 times in the past six months, I have received subpar service, my to go order is wrong, and the broth is bland. Needless to say, I won't be back for the next year. Hopefully things will work themselves out. read more

They have a huge menu with lots of options, the portions are very generous, and the staff is super friendly. Whatever you end up ordering, I recommend getting a side of egg rolls. My friend and I visited the restaurant one evening for dinner. We had both been there before and have always been satisfied.
