Great food and service.... I've been to this restaurant a few times in the last ten years. It has been a place to stop when traveling from New Jersey, through Staten Island and onto Long Island, since it's right off the Verrazano Bridge, Lily Pond Road exit. It appears to be an older home converted to restaurant. I don't know the true history of the building, but many larger homes on Staten Island are historic. There was a time when wealthy people summered on the island, escaping the New York City heat. The food here is excellent. We've often had authentic Italian dishes including seafood. We have been very happy with every meal and the reason we have returned. On our most recent visit, we were a group on a bus tour of Staten Island. As a group we had three choices for dinner, so I could not order the more adventurous Italian dishes that I would normally order with family. Just the same, everyone enjoyed their selection. I had the salmon with sides of green beans, carrots and roasted potatoes. The salmon and vegetables were cooked perfectly. Since it was a group, we all had a salad with homemade balsamic dressing, and "penne a la vodka" that was perfectly prepared, not too creamy. I heard no complaints from the group as the food and service were excellent. I'm not giving it a 5th star since the decor and maintenance of the restaurant needs to be updated and improved. Don't expect a fancy place. This is more like going to grandma's for dinner. The food is the main attraction here! read more

Me and my family have been coming here for seven years and it's the only Italian restaurant we still go to on the island. Pasta is made fresh, pappardelle with goat cheese, carbonara pasta, risotto is the usual dishes we get and they are always amazing. We were not sure what we would get when we came here. The service was exceptional though we didn't have a reservation they found us a table quickly. We had Ossco Brusco and a shrimp Gorgonzola risotto and deep fried zucchini flowers. Everything was absolutely amazing and we will def come again. I always enjoy eating at Basilio Inn- the quaint setting, delicious pasta (got the pasta w/ mozzarella- sauce tastes so good). - my moms a little choosy w/ her wine- has to be light/ soft- the owner brought out a bottle of Pinot noir that was perfect. I went here with my wife last Tuesday night while we were in Staten Island. We were trying to find an open restaurant since it was getting kind of late, and we found the Basilio Inn. We were the only people in the dining room that night, which is usually a bad sign at a restaurant, but I have to say, everything was really great. The bread at the start of the meal was good. Service was very attentive. We had a burrata appetizer and a stuffed mushroom, my wife got pasta, and I got the Basilio chicken, which was amazing. It was so flavorful. The service was extremely poor, and it wasn't like it was busy, we sat down right away as our table was waiting for our 8:15 reservations. It literally took 15 minutes before the waitress came over and asked if we would like something to drink! And it didn't get better after that as far as service go's, and you could see into the kitchen door as it opened where the staff was hanging with their cellphones in their hands! No good! The food on the other hand was exceptional fish salad was the best I ever had, fried zucchini was delish, and my veal dish was excellent! I've lived in SI for 23 years and I've never been here. Boy do I have a lot of time to make up for. We sat outside of the deck on a beautiful summer evening and couldn't have asked for a more pleasurable experience. Started with the seafood salad, tender pieces of calamari and shrimps with fresh veggies grown on the premises. Gnocchi with fresh tomatoes was so light and tasty I was blown away other places the gnocchi are usually heavy and very gummy these were perfect. My wife had pasta with eggplant that was also delicious. Dessert was also delicious. I don't know what it was called but we split a puff pastry filled with layers of cream definitely bug enough to share. We can't wait to return which I'm sure will be very soon. read more

In my book Basilio Inn is Hands Down The BEST Italian restaurant on Staten Island! I have eaten at all of the islands staples that everyone has recommended to me over the years, and around 25 or so other places that I've tried on the island. There are a hand full that are memorable the rest you might as well go to an Italian chain restaurant. They are not worth me writing about. Processed frozen food. I don't know if the people that have suggested restaurants to me just don't leave the island or they don't know what good food can be. Maybe Basilio Inn is too far from the south shore for people to travel , I don't know, but its definitely worth a trip. I crave this place. The owner does his own vegetable shopping at the markets and if something doesn't look right he won't buy it. So fresh so delicious. The pastas are homemade they are so good you have to try them all. After reading all the reviews I thought to myself - this is a hidden gem. The place is at great location, owners did great job, its clean and classy. The food, however did not impress any of us (had party of 4). Calamari appetizer was excellent. The Mozarella Corroza was not good. The bread at some parts was too chewy, the sauce for it was just blent. Duck was ok, the fig sauce was great. Pastas were nothing impressive. Puff pastry cake (similar to Napoleon cake) was good, but again nothing to rave about. The food tasted fresh though. The service was really good, I put 3 for food. The bill was about $40 per person, which is not in Price Level Category $$, I would say $$$. read more

We held our grammar school class reunion at Basilio's, a party of about 25 people. It was a Saturday afternoon, and we had the whole room to ourselves for 3 hours. We could choose from 3 meals (fish, chicken, or eggplant). Consensus was that everything was delicious. The red sauce - amazing! The fish (baso) outstanding. Kudos to the kitchen staff!. The wait staff provided excellent service - unobtrusive, professional, making sure that every individual was happy. It was a pleasure to work with the manager in planning this event. My husband and I came across this restaurant by accident as we were coming from Brooklyn. Don't let the appearance of this restaurant fool you. It may look old and beat down from the outside, but the inside is big, spacious and very clean. The food was amazing! The staff is so friendly and attentive. I'm sad I'm unable to give this restaurant a higher rating. Although the restaurant is small, it is very intimate and presents well. We were immediately greeted, escorted to the dining area, where we were given the opportunity to choose our seating. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly and attentive. My boyfriend and I each ordered a pasta dish. I enjoyed mine (only complaint was that it was too hot - not a real complaint!) however my boyfriend's dish wasn't as great. When we returned home, he got sick! Terrible stomach pains and everything to follow. After seeing good reviews we decided to try their lunch today. As soon as we walked in there was no A/C or fans, very uncomfortable. I have to say we were very disappointed with the food. We ordered clams oreganato and only got 6 tiny clams and we both had veal piccata and the veal was tough, cabbage (really with veal, cheap vegetable) and 1 tiny boiled potato which I didn't eat either one. So after driving from rockaway to Staten Island, and finding this place off the beaten bath, how disappointed this party of 4 was. The food at best was ok. Service was soooooo slow. Una grande ristorante. Perfetto If you have ever been to Italy and eaten in a local Italian restaurant then you will be at home here. The restaurant looks like it could be closed except for the lot full of cars. There will be kids running around from a birthday party maybe. There may be a table full of folks being load and sampling food from others plates. The wine will be in evidence all over. The inside is simple - white paper table covers, with a bottle of rosemary flavored oil and some flowers. The waiters all seem to be part of every ones family. They talk and say hello to half the people there. They know many names. The menu is rustic Italian with a southern Italian slant. The owner is from the Naples region and will talk to you at length about the beauty of Italy. The food is perfect. The pasta is homemade in many instances. The portions are correctly sized. The Sicilian salad was a melange of radicchio, fennel, onion, olives, baby spinach and oranges all in a subtle blend of oil and white balsamic vinegar ( I think). The pasta with tomato and basil was simple and bright and wonderful. The minestrone was of the white variety and perfectly velvety with a great jumble of muted flavors. Yumm and a half. The Veal ragu was chunkier than anticipated but just wonderful in taste with muted spicing and a great veal taste. It had been cooking for many hours to infuse the flavors that were there. The wine list is small but good with some great southern wines,.Get the Aglianico for the red and the Falanghina for the white. Ask them for a recommendation. It is not a problem. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. If you want to talk they will talk. Truly one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The pricing was moderate. Entrees 14- 22 wine about 25, desserts 6 plus. We had dinner for two with soup salad and wine for less than 100. read more

God awful. I went to this place expecting to have a nice meal with my girlfriend and my family. I put my order in at 7:00pm. At 7:50 the waitress promised that my food would be out shortly. At 8;10, still starving and without food, we asked the waitress where the food was and she said it would be "out shortly." At 8:25 we got fed up and left and put adequate money on the table. At that point, the owner came out to *argue* with us about leaving. I wouldn't have left if they had been honest with us or offered us some drinks but they instead repeatedly lied to us about when our food would come out. Excuse after excuse doesn't justify an 80+ minute wait for a main course. I would advise anyone looking to be fed in the same century that they entered steer far clear of this establishment. The restaurant may be 95 years old, but it might be 95 more before you're actually fed. BONUS: I ordered hot tea, and they brought over hot water with some sugar. I had to remind them that tea is supposed to be served with some sort of tea. read more

Shocking that I've lived here for 25 years and never made it to this place. I love nothing better than a quaint, authentic Italian restaurant run by Italians! No offense, but you'd rather go to a Chinese place run by Chinese people correct?
