This store pulls out all the stops at Christmastime. There are amazing displays! Santa is there to hear from the children about their hopes for presents; there are also games for kids to play and even a merry-go-round! The selection of things to purchase is diverse and immense. Name brands and 'Red Head' the Bass Pro Shop brand. They even have big ticket items like boats and off-road vehicles available to purchase. That said, while you can buy most everything for outdoor life at this store, it comes at a price. Most things are available for less, elsewhere. We love this particular store when we come to visit Chicago. Sadly, while I love this gigantic store, and it's always a fun event to visit, the joy can be ruined by the actions of one employee. In this case, the 'greeter' and 'exit' guy was so totally rude to my daughter and 5 year old grandson, and myself, too, it just ruined the whole outing. I am in the customer service industry, and even on my worst day, I would never be curse, rude or dismissive to a customer; and I mean NEVER. This gentleman [loosely and generously used] was rude, period. He was snarky and when we were just trying to get to the fireplace to warm up, trying to figure out the best path to get there, my little 5 year old grandson saw the enter turnstile and figured ducking under was the closest path. What adult barks out 'to the right, to the right, exit!' at a 5 year old? How cold and rude! The kid is 5!!!! My daughter said 'he's just trying to go sit by the fireplace' and the old man barked 'well why didn't you just say that!' Seriously, this old guy [and I can say that because he was close to my age] needs to reconsider his job and maybe look for something where he doesn't deal with the public. I realize jobs can be difficult to find, but certainly it's better to find one that suits you. This man is in a job that is in a position that is very pivotal in customer service as he is the first one a customer sees and the last one the customer interacts with. So, as you can see, he was the 'make or break' person for my experience on this day, and today he BROKE our experience with his sour disposition. For this man's actions that ruined what had been lots of fun, I have no choice but to award 2 stars, and that is being generous. Will I return? Maybe. But it sure won't be at the top of my list. read more

I made my boyfriend come here with me while we killed some time while waiting for my car to be maintenanced. Big Mistake... since I hadn't been to one of these stores since I was a kid and could barely read. My Dad would always take me to this chain (different location though) and other outdoorsy places like Gander Mountain when I was younger and I loved it! I thought it was fun, there's toys, the other locations have carnival like games, there's a restaurant, there's fish... it's really something you could make a (rainy) day out of. UNTIL... you grow up, go product surfing through the aisles, maybe just looking at tackles that are neat looking and extra colorful and fuzzy, and then come across an item called Butt-Out on the shelves and your little animal loving heart dies. Butt Out is basically a giant orange wine cork that you stick up the deer's bum and then turn it so the spikes grab the intestines, and then you can pull their entrails out and not get deer #2 in your deer meat. It pretty much ruined my day and appetite. On a more informative note about the store, it is smaller than any of the other locations I've been to and there's lots of rurals with their daddy and son overalls... it's actually really kinda cute. The lighting here is weird though... it sort of looks like they had some light bulbs out or were getting ready to close down shop, though it has never been closing time when I've wandered in. For now, I'm not really in the market for anything from this store but maybe if I save up my pennies I'll be able to afford that crossbow I've always wanted. read more

I could have 100 check ins here if I would have been yelping for the last five years. Bass Pro Shop is the outdoorsman's Disney. Mention Bass Pro to any (real) man and you will see an otherwise gruff and burly individual become misty eyed remembering the thousands of hours he's spent roaming aisle after manly aisle! Mention Bass Pro to his wife...... And you will see tears alright. Not fond tears of memories made, but tears remembering the thousands of dollars she's seen spent aisle after expensive aisle!! I purchased the Bow I shot my first buck with here. Purchased the rod I caught my 30 inch walleye with that hangs on my wall. My first hand gun, my mallard decoys I hunt over every season, I could go on and on and on. Anyone who enjoys the woods more than the water park or who would rather watch a sunset over a Disney movie has a bass pro credit card. Do your kids a favor and get them out from behind the tv and video games. Bring them to bass pro to light the fire for a love of the outdoors!!! read more

Had a horrible experience YESTERDAY 8/18/2018 do to a LAZT AND SARCASTIC Bass Pro Shop Employee Larry at the gun counter. I went there looking for a case of Remington Gun Club 7.5, 1250, 1 1/8 oz., 12 gage shells for a trap tournament for Safari Club International (SCI). I walked the end cap and down the isle and only seen Federal, and Winchester brands, so I walked up to the gun counter and there was 3 employees standing around 2 of which were talking to each and one was on a he computer (Larry). I waited a as Larry looked up and rolled his eyes at me and went back to his computer and I almost left do to that, the PROFESSIONAL THING TO SAY WOULD HAVE BEEN "ONE MINUTE PLEASE I'LL BE RIGHT WITH YOU" then a minutes or so later he asked "can I help you, with the eye roll again" I told him what I was looking for the Gun Club shells and I didn't see any out on the floor and if they had any in stock, his reply Larry Bass Pro Employees : "What we have is out on the floor did you even bother to look ?" And shrugged his shoulders at me Me: Yes, I didn't see any thanks for NOT helping and I walked away After I walked away I got an store manager who took me to where the gun club 12 gage were (only 3 cases on the bottom shelf of the federal display so that's why I didn't see them). The manager was gonna carry the case down to check for me I said that unnecessary and all Larry or one of the other 2 had to do was had to was TO HELP A COSTUMER AND SHOW WHERE THE PRODUCT WAS DISPLAYED and everything would of been fine, but instead LARRY chose to be SARCASTIC, and or just to LAZY to get off the chair and walk away from the computer AND HELP A CUSTOMER read more

If for nothing else, this will keep the kids satisfied for at least an hour of good quality time. There's a huge fish tank and lots of random taxidermy animals everywhere! I mean, what vegetarian wouldn't love this joint? Hah. You walk in and the place is like Disney. There's a little turnstile you walk through and then it's the mecca of all things outdoor. They have a great selection of anything you can imagine for outdoor (fishing, camping, backpacking, etc.) and they have a ton of clothes! I love The North Face, and they've got a decent stash. I suppose, with Outdoor World in Gurnee, if someone wants to buy a boat from BPS they don't really need two stores to shop at. Anyway, this is a decent enough BPS. They sell boats and other fishing gear here. It's fun to go in a just look around in this museum type of building! You will think you are indoors- for sure!! Today was my first time ever in this store, while I must admit the store itself is nice.... the customer service is HORRIBLE & borderline gives me racist vibes. From the store rude cashier down to associates walking by us as if we didn't belong there, not to mention the one employee trying to sell us a trip and pressuring us to sign up for a $1,000 raffle. I walked in excited and I walked out frustrated and with a headache! Honestly, I will buy what I need moving forward from Walmart or Amazon before I go back to this store again. ****NOTE: This review is for the Santa's Wonderland only**** So I have been coming to Santa's Wonderland with my family for the past 8 years. It is a tradition now, and it is always a decent experience. This year is a bit different with grabbing a spot in the queue. In the past, you would arrive and get a physical ticket that would tell you what time to get in line for Santa. You could arrive early and get a ticket for a later time if you'd like. For this year, you get in line and you sign up on an online queue. You will then receive a text that tells you when it's time to get in line. Essentially you end up waiting in two lines, one for the queue sign-up and the actual line for Santa, but this system allows the Santa line to be much shorter than before. You can also roam around where you please while you wait for your text. Expect to get there before stores open if you want a decent spot in line. We arrived at opening and I would say the entire experience took close to an hour and a half. As usual, the Wonderland area is setup wonderfully for kids. There are stations where you can play with some of the toys that Bass Pro Shop offers. There is a snack shop where you can buy popcorn and sweet treats. You can also take your kids on the small merry-go-round that they have setup. Near the back, there is a television showing Christmas films (although no volume) and an area that kids can sit and color Christmas drawings. Santa and Mrs. Claus are always wonderful with the kids and the picture is high quality (and free!). You can opt to pay and get photo packages if you desire more than one photo. Despite the wait, this is a great option for Santa. Expect a good experience with a great free photo that holds up well over the years. I'm sure we will be back next year! read more

Bass Pro Shop gives me anxiety. Seriously, everytime I come here, I feel like I need a Xanax before maneuvering past the stop-and-gawkers, the unsupervised children running all over, and the other odd birds that shop here. We found ourselves here the Sunday before Christmas (big mistake, I know) on a quest to find some snow/all-weather boots for the bf. We had already been to four other stores and our patience was wearing thin. The bf browsed their website before hand, found a pair he liked, and so we headed out. We get to the store and begin scouring the shoe department for his boots. We didn't see them on display, so we ask an associate to check in back. He comes back a few minutes later and big surprise, they're all sold out. Defeated, we looked around for a gift for his family grab bag on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, nothing struck our eye. I enjoy browsing the "gfit" area and checking out the variety of hot sauces. However, after about five minutes I'm always ready to leave. If you know what you're looking for, BPS carries pretty much anything outdoor/sport related. Just do your homework ahead of time; get in and get out, unless you've got hours to spare to walk around the gigantic store. read more

Such rude customer service! We realized right away that we were double charged for an expensive item. We waited in line again, only for the original cashier to redirect us to customer service. We then waited in a 3rd line, to be greeted by the rudest woman who demanded a drivers license for the return after walking back to our original cashier. We asked why she needed to scan our ID and she said 'because the system asks me' then held her hand out and stared at us. We had never returned an item here, but apparently asking to understand a policy made us the bad guy. We're going to continue shopping here because they have a monopoly on so much fishing gear, but dang girl if you're going to huff and puff just call off of work! read more

After I asked him to back Off of her, I began to take a liking to Paul. Me and Paul went on a date later than that night. I used to like this store. Used to frequent Outdoor World in Gurnee to use the archery range and would come here for my outdoor needs. But recently I had placed two orders online that were charged to my credit card but then were later cancelled due to not being in stock (when the website itself said they were both in stock). So I have to wait a few days until they refund me the money. To top it all off, when I complained, they provided me with a measly 10% off coupon that I can't even use since my orders were exceptions to the 10% off. This is just bad business. I can see this happening with one order, but two is outrageous. I won't let them off the hook on this one. If any other store did this, I'd be just as livid and wouldn't bother going there anymore. I guess I'll take my business elsewhere from now on. read more

In and out in a safe manner. Needed to a 12 gauge shot gun to round out my home protection cache and dropped in to BPS. Knowledgeable associate walked me through a few options. 15 mins later purchased my first Benelli. Walked through, demo'ed and purchase the tactical with the pistol grip style however after the background check, come time for pick up upon inspection mine did not have the pistol grip style. Review is specifically during the holiday season when they have an incredible winter display and an authentic looking Santa Claus for pictures. It gets crowded and for good reason. The winter decorations are impressive and filled with a lot of activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. The line to take pictures with Santa is LONG because it really is a great set-up and you get a free photo! Go there early to get a pass then come back later to line up. They typically start lining up at least an hour in advance on weekends. If you're lucky to be able to get pictures on a weekday, you can typically just walk right up or wait for a short moment. While you wait for Santa, there is a carousel, tables for arts and crafts, a practice shooting range, and a stand that sells cinnamon coated nuts, hot chocolate, cookies and other goodies for you to munch on. It's actually just great to go there and hang out with young children because there's so much to do. read more

My boyfriend asked to get signed up for the rewards card, the worker "dawn" was beyond rude because the store was closing and she ""didn't have time for that" and was beyond disrespectful throughout the check out process. Just bought my first pistol (Springfield Armory XDS 9mm) and had a really exceptional experience overall. My gun purchase was with Joe, he was very nice and helpful. A week later when I went to pick-up my 9mm, I asked about the conceal and carry purses, I was then directed to Audrey aka Gma. What an amazing experience that was! All around. Gma and I spoke for about 20 minutes about guns, travel, life, family, God. I made a new friend, I got hugs and not like I needed yet another reason to come back to this awesome store, I will most certainly come back to visit Ms. Audrey. Santa was in his chair and there were about 5 families in line but that is as close as these kids could get to Santa as Bass Pro Show has a new registration on iPad process. We were told at noon there was a 5 hour wait, then 10 minutes later (with 2 families in line) we were told the registration was CLOSED! We took a picture in the store next to the display and left. From the beginning all the people were staring and me and my friend I figured since we are Hispanic. So from there everything went downhill I approached the gun station so I seen that they was treating a guy with the best customer service ever once they came to me they didn't even give me tips on what was the best on home defense they didn't give me any information at all just stared at me and they even had a cop next to us the whole entire time we was there even after I showed him my foid card and my IDENTIFICATION so that they can see that I'm good to buy a gun. So I just ended up just leaving. And literally everyone stared at us from the moment that we entered to the moment we left. I never felt so disappointed disgusted and disrespected in my life. Purchased two handguns from the Bolingbrook IL location. Because it's Illinois, there are a bunch of arcane and redundant laws that make it a very frustrating process. I finally received a telephone call today that both of my firearms had cleared the multiple background checks and that I could pick them up if I came to the store prior to 7:30pm. I arrived shortly before 7:30 and took a number as is the policy at the hunting counter. My number was 04 and they were only on 86. Nevertheless, an employee named Lori assured me that everyone would be waited on this evening. After waiting for 45 minutes, an older male employee came out and told us they weren't going to be able to wait on us, but invited me to return in the morning when the store opens. I live in a different part of Chicagoland, plus I have to work during the day, so I was very upset by this. The end result was that I was forced to leave without the firearms which I paid for, went through all proper paperwork for, and legally own. I wasted an hour driving and another 45 minutes waiting, only to be turned away. It is not my fault that Bass Pro Shops obviously does not have enough employees working in this department to cover me and the 20 other people who were waiting and were also turned away. Also, for those of us who had completed all background checks and were there to pick up our purchases, this could have all been taken care of in a few minutes time. This gentleman could have walked to the back and gotten me my firearms in the time it took him to tell us how the shopping center was going to be locked down and we would be unable to leave (which I'm sure is not the case, as many shoppers and workers were still there after we left.) If they weren't going to take care of me and other customers, they should not have assured us they were, causing us to wait 45 minutes for nothing. They also should make some effort to determine what the customers are waiting for. If doing background checks, they could get those people started on paperwork and then assist other customers who are there for "in and out" matters such as making pickups. This is unacceptable customer service. I will be returning to the store to pick up the two firearms I have already paid for, mainly because I don't care to go through the very silly Illinois protocols. However, I will never shop at Bass Pro again. read more

Terrible pricing. I was talked into buying a Taurus G2C 9mm auto-pistol for get this $279.00 when if I'd just looked on line (internet) for that same gun sold for only $219.00. AS a matter of fact that price online is still there today. After emailing Bass pro a couple of times I gave up. If it means that much to them to lose a customer over $60.00 the so be it. On a search for all-weather boots, I recommended to my husband that we check out Bass Pro Shops. LL Bean and Under Armour sell all-weather footwear, but at a much higher price. He got a pair of them for less than $100. These are durable, quality rain shoes that were worth the price tag. My loathing of camo anything is right up there with my loathing of crocs, so I was pretty out of place here. Anyway, there's just about every outdoor accessory, for every outdoor job or activity, that you could possibly need. It's like Macy's, but for fisherman and hunters. They also sell Columbia jackets and clothing items if you are just looking for quality outerwear for winter and want to skip the trip to Sports Authority. It's really busy on the weekends, and the store is massive. Even while browsing the footwear, nobody acknowledged us. It was hard to find an employee to get the pair of boots for us from a stockroom. There aren't enough staff around in this megastore, unless you know exactly what you're looking for. Part of the store reminds of me of a museum gift shop. There's an aquarium in the middle, and lots of teeny t-shirts for kids, coffee mugs, key chains, you name it. I'd rather watch another episode of "Hillbilly Handfishin'" than go back here. read more

I've never been here to shop, this review is solely on the Christmas area they have during the holidays. So I came here with a friend one lonely, December weekday with the kiddos. I heard they had Santa's workshop and you get a free 4X6photo with Santa for your kids! Awesome, that beats the mall's prices by at least $17!!! They have a huge portion of the first floor of the store dedicated to Santa's workshop. I wasn't expecting the hoopla they had all set up! Some of what they offer: - Photo with Santa (one free 4X6 photo) - Carousel - Toy trains - Talking reindeer - Toy car race track - Sling shots that you use to hit targets - BB guns that you use to hit targets - A quiet picnic table area with crayons and coloring pages - Hot cocoa and cider stand This stay at home mom was in heaven! This place was free to visit during the weekday - which is crucial for a SAHM to find. I absolutely loved it and so did the kids! The kids were tuckered out after an hour or two of indoor family fun. I made that last part up, but I'm fairly certain that they sell shovels. You can also get shoes and camping gear and a lot of other things that are not specifically geared towards guys with big beards and blue tic hounds. There is also a restaurant attached/in the building. It is very good, even better if you like fish. That's because it is a seafood restaurant. The giant decorative fish tank is neato as well. One of my favorite things is that they do a big winterland/Santa thing. The super duper best part is that it's free to see Santa and you get a free copy of the picture too. Though be warned it is not a secret and if yo do not get here early enough you will NOT see Santa. They do a Santa pass so you get assigned a time and can come back later instead of sitting there for 3 hours. But even those passes go fast. read more
