It was like eating Rao's pasta sauce and the chickpea pasta from Costco, which I could have done at home for 1/4 the price. The regular pasta was gloopy and stuck together. Overall, completely overpriced and underwhelming. $72 before tip for 2 adults and 2 kids was ridiculous for the terrible quality. RIGATONI VODKA was not great. Spice was the only flavor and not very creamy. Rigatoni was really dense. Fettuccine Parm was good but neither pasta tasted fresh made at all. Yeah Eggplant Parm antipasti was barely edible and it came out cold. Service was great and ambiance was good but music a bit too loud for mid day. And they don't have any smaller portion options for kids. I want to leave a 3 1/2 stars but we literally didn't eat two out of the three plates so I'm going with three. This place is exceptional. The pasta is similar to antica sicilia's which is twice the price and half the portion. This is my new favorite spot to eat. I saw a lot of people complaining about the free bread. I believe they changed it based off of past pictures. It was delicious. We also had the peach mojito and aperol spritz which were super cute and yummy. The real star of the show here though was the pasta. MY GOODNESS is it delicious. I had the Gnocchi Sorrentino while my boyfriend had the Pappardelle Genoese. We were so excited to try Basta. As much as I wanted it to be a 5 Star, it just wasn't quite there for me. We went around 8pm on a Friday night and it wasn't very busy, however, the service was pretty slow. The food was good, but I think I would try something different next time. We had the Chicken Parm - we didn't realize until it came out that it didn't come with noodles (our fault), so we ended up ordering some Alfredo as well. We also tried the Pappardelle Genovese (red wine short rib ragu) and the Mozz and Prosciutto. Everything was decent! It just was not quite as good as I was anticipating. It's a great atmosphere and I love the decor. It's moody and feels like a cool new spot. I will definitely look through other reviews and give it another try. We were excited to try BASTA, as it was advertised as a purveyor of authentic pasta ("Best Pasta in Utah", per their website) at reasonable prices. When we arrived, it looked like an Italian Chipotle, with the addition of a live DJ spinning some nice jams. Casual but cool, as advertised. We joined the line and observed that the staff was both busy and meticulous in crafting each dish, including adding shaved Parmesan. The mounds of fresh pasta in the prep area, behind glass, looked good and implied authenticity. We ordered the Paparadelle Ragu and the Rigatoni Vodka, a Caesar salad, and a glass each of Sangiovese and Pino Grigio. We were given a number and told our food would be delivered to our table. The bill totaled $91 with a 20% tip, $27 of which was for the wine. Since all tables were full, we walked over to a 6-person bar area facing a wall. On our way, I noticed two boxes of Franzia wine, a red blend and a white. The $27 we paid for two Utah pours would have bought several boxes of the wine that apparently was passed off as varietal. When a table opened, we swooped in, as other diners were fairly aggressive at grabbing seats before ordering. At the same time, a server appeared with our food. He had no place to put the plates until another server cleaned the tabled with a string Lysol spray disinfectant, leaving an over whelming bathroom cleaner-type of smell, and by the time we were finally seated, the pasta was starting to cool. Although the salad was crispy and the dressing fresh and robust, the pasta did not live up to "the Mona Lisa of pasta", as proclaimed by the server's t-shirts. The pasta was not house-made, and was well past al dente. And the sauces were lacking in any identifiable flavor, apart from the shredded short rib meat in my dish. We both believe that BASTA oversells itself as having great pasta, compared to many restaurants in Utah, let alone Italy. The misrepresented "Sangiovese" and "Pinot Grigio" was just shameful. We won't be back. We could have added one star for the DJ, but there were too many negatives to give more than two stars, which is especially sad for a $91 two-person dinner. read more

We celebrated our anniversary in Rome this fall, and two of our favorite food discoveries were Amatriciana and any pizza with mortadella. BASTA did not disappoint! Really loved both pastas! So much flavor and the noodles were amazing! The crab papardelle was a bit spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. Imagine paying 15 dollars for a handful of noodles with no flavor. Took our food to go since there was not enough seating. A table luckily opened so our food was in to go bins. The Alfredo had no taste and the Rigatoni Norma was just okay. Go to Olive Garden for the same price and breadsticks. At least you leave there full. It was mid. This is our second time back and we are hooked! The vibe of the restaurant is a really nice mix of relaxed and upbeat while still getting quality table service. All of the servers were fantastic, very attentive and super helpful, kind and so friendly. We also were so lucky to meet Margherita and chat with her for a bit! She was the sweetest, so thoughtful and you can tell how much love and passion she has for food. It was so exciting to find out they also are owners of Sicilia Mia and Antica Sicilia which we also LOVE. We had the reggina, pappardelle de pino, cannolis and tiramisu! All were 10/10. Coming from the east coast, it's hard to find really quality Italian food in Utah but BASTA has proven themselves to be delicious and I'm definitely a repeat customer! Wow!!! Decor so cute and I took a pic on their Vespa before ordering. Menu was not complicated but had many different things to choose from. Our whole party ordered something different to be able to taste the dishes little did we know that the dishes were HUGE we couldn't even get through some and took home a lot of food. The staff were very friendly and willing to accommodate any requests. We asked for a small marinara sauce which you have to pay for but they were nice to give it to us for free. Seating was sort of a challenge our party arrived before the rush and people were basically waiting for open tables to sit. My advice go during non peak hours. Also the pizza dough was not ready upon arrival we left and came back around 1130. Music playing was all mixed which was good and the bathrooms are located in the mall but you are able to walk back in the back way from the restaurant. We did not wait long to get our food but it was nice and hot and fresh! Parking is the mall parking. All in all I would definitely go back to this place not only was the food the bomb but it's another place that I'm sure people will enjoy. The purple haired lady at the front was extremely rude. The person before me was greeted pleasantly and asked if she had been here before and was treated politely the entire time she ordered. When it was my turn the first the she told me was "do you just want water" and was very snarky about it. I was cut off multiple times while ordering and was told I was not allowed to sit before ordering and my husband and kids shouldn't have. There is no sign that states to wait to be seated.
