It all started with a picture that my friend posted on his IG page. My husband and I took a 30 mile drive to try this bakery. Once we arrived we were greeted with friendly smiling eyes (the sales rep wore a mask but you could clearly see she was smiling behind the mask), asking how she could help us. I explained that it was our 1st visit to the bakery. Our sales rep immediately explained the many options available and about the most recent promotion buy 5 get 1 free. My husband and I ordered our six (pink chocolate, caramel crunch, vanilla chocolate, lemon drop, birthday cake, and sorry guys I can't remember the last cupcake name but it was a pumpkin fall flavor and it was yummy). We bought many to try because my small birthday gathering was this weekend and the website said they can take cake orders with 48 hour notice. I made a decision with the caramel crunch and placed my order. The woman that took my order was patient with me and guided me as I made my decision of colored frosting, florets and happy birthday writing on the bottom. I went to the store to pick up my cake and was immediately greeted with a very friendly hello. I explained the purpose of my visit (to pick up my birthday cake). She went to the refrigerator and said oh yeah you have the purple cake. She let me see it and boy was I amazed. It was such a beautiful and vibrant purple (this is my favorite color). This cake spoke to my entire heart. I was so vocal to let the ladies in the store know that I was beyond happy. I had made a last minute flower board as a back drop and I knew immediately that it would be perfect backdrop for such a beautiful cake. Now for the part that we all care about... This cake was super moist, and delicious. Biting into this cake made me smile and my family enjoyed it as well. They also mentioned how beautiful the cake was and how delicious it was too. Yes, the cake is very moist. I came here a few times and the cake is moist and good. But the frosting is quite sweet, in pretty much all the flavors I've tasted (about 10 total). I LOVE cupcakes, and I bake at home, so I am picky. I want the cake to be just as much a part of the flavor experience, not just a platform for the frosting. If you look at the menu, every single cupcake is either chocolate or vanilla bean, with the exception of the red velvet (which is cocoa with a lot of red food coloring so it's similar to chocolate). The toppings like a pretzel, or shavings, or M&Ms captures your attention. I get it - the reason is that it's a franchise, so each shop has to have a formula and they all have to be standardized across all shops in the US to be consistent for the brand, of course. But then there's no creativity or home-made taste or unique flavors of cake. These cupcakes are great for group parties or a showy gift, for the wow factor in the presentation. But if you're a cupcake connoisseur, go to an individually owned bakery specializing in cupcakes with different *cake* flavors and unique frosting that isn't so sweet. There is one in Berkeley (initials CBS) that is to DIE for. I just had two cupcakes this weekend - one was lemon raspberry with lemony (not too sweet) cake and raspberry buttercream, and one was chocolate caramel - dark chocolate cake and a caramel frosting (more caramel than sugary taste). They also have a mocha cake one with caramel frosting, and key lime pie cupcake! read more

Had some friends send me this as a surprise gift through Door Dash and instantly knew I had to order from here again! I received 12 mini cupcakes that were beautifully decorated. Cupcakes were moist, frosting was sweet and decadent, and the assortment of flavors were great. I especially loved the red velvet and chocolate cream cupcakes. I ordered 6 regular sized cupcakes for my sister's birthday. I placed the order online, which was super easy. The regular sized cupcakes were even MORE moist and frosting was so creamy! The lemon and Lime flavor you can taste by just smelling them. The cake itself is both moist and crumbly. The one let down was the graham cracker crust on the key lime (under the wrapper). It had sea salt in it, which I normally enjoy. In this case it was so salty that we ended up eating the top 2/3 and not the crust on those. The ice cream is insane. If you are a fan of Key Lime and tart I suggest checking this out. Recently came back to give the place a second chance while visiting my parents. All the employees are extremely friendly, and they are 100% taking all COVID precautions seriously. So definitely a plus. Aside from that though, my review pretty much stands. We purchased 4 cupcakes (Choc Cream, Lemon, Strawberry, & Fruity Pebbles) and a pack of pup cakes. Aside from their specialty offerings which update daily, they literally only had different combos of vanilla and chocolate (and dye a lot of their frosting pink?¿), including the chocolate cream which we got for my dad. IT IS AN INSULT TO HOSTESS TO CALL THAT A CREAM FILLED CUPCAKE. Like seriously, there was one glob of cream in the middle which can be seen in the attached photo. The lemon didn't have enough lemon and the strawberry just tasted like sugary vanilla w a slightly fruit after taste. Sadly just does not compete at all with any of the other boutique cupcakeries I've become accustomed to. Came in today to check out their assortment for the first time and I was sadly extremely disappointed in what they had to offer. Many flavors, but they were all extremely similar (just chocolate cake or vanilla cake with different types of frosting). I have been a huge fan of Cupcake Wars for years, and am always excited to check out new cupcake bakeries since they're usually the best about having new and exciting flavors. I hope they continue to expand their options otherwise I don't see this place lasting too long in the East Bay. Will try again but probably only once more unless I see a change.
