A very nice orchard with no picking fee, which is great. The only negative is their bag policy. On the website it says no reusable bags, and then before entering this sign states other kinds of bags that are not allowed. There is also a box that your bag has to fit in to enter. I had a tote bag as my purse (which does fit in the box) and they would not let me bring it in. It's not the biggest deal, but it is definitely inconvenient given that none of their signs or websites mention no tote bags. Very well priced though! read more

This was a cute orchard we brought the kids to. $1.69 for a lb of apples you pick and forgot prices for pumpkins. The kids were able to walk/run throughout the orchard. Signs were posted letting you know the type of apples that were available and where they were. The store is not at the same location as the orchard. It is up the street but they do not suggest parking and walking as the sidewalk is very limited and it is dangerous. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. Parking was not that bad as they have attendants directing people to park, however when it was time to go leaving the location was a problem. No assistance with trying to get the vehicles out. Lovely spot! Judging by the number of cars parked in the strawberry picking area I knew we were in for a treat when we got to the store. The strawberries are terrific! We bought four quarts, and ate one driving in the car! (Well, I do have a detail scheduled next week . . .). Two bunches of local (not theirs, though) of asparagus, a Dutch apple pie, and two blueberry scones rounded out our shopping cart. Had visited last month for pumpkin picking. Once we got closer to the orchard, it was really traffic right by the country store. We had turned into one of their orchard areas and found parking in their grassy lot with plenty of spaces. We had walked towards the entrance way and there was an employee that was checking bags as they have limitations on bags that are allowed. They had some buckets and paperbags for those picking apples and there were pumpkins of all sizes right when you walk in. We didn't go apple picking this time but be mindful of what you pick as you pay for what you pick. I walked through a sea of pumpkins in search of my pumpkins and ended up picking up 4 pumpkins. We walked to the pay stations and you pay for the pumpkins by the pound at about $0.79/pound. Altogether I paid about $23 for all my pumpkins which was not bad at all. Please note, this place is cash only for the apple and pumpkin picking. And it is very family friendly and have a fun hay ride as well! I of course had to stop by for the fresh apple cider donuts! They were soooo good and you get them hot and fresh! You literally cannot eat just one. They also sell pies and cider and other baked goods. Took a family trip out here for some apple picking and pictures with the pumpkins. Personally I hadn't been apple picking in forever, but Battleview reminded me of everything that I used to love about it. I'm so happy that we were able to share this experience with our son, and we hope to be able to do this every year moving forward. Despite being a weekend that we went, the orchard and pumpkin patch didn't feel crowded. There were plenty of trees to pick from, and the apples were all simply amazing. For my pumpkin-loving little guy, he was in heaven. So many pumpkins to touch and sit on. I have no clue what the overall prices are like compared to other orchards, but there's no fee to park or walk around the grounds, just post for what you pick. Love coming here for fall apple and pumpkin picking festivities! Everyone was so friendly. The young staff members were very enthusiastic and helpful. I love they have apple picker poles for rent to help reach the apples. It does get busy so I would recommend arriving early at around opening hours. Also the ground does get dewy so wear waterproof shoes (my husband had soggy socks hah!). The farm store is a little further than the apple/pumpkin picking area so its easiest to drive there. The cider and apple cider donut lines were really long but they moved along very efficiently. The store itself is filled with tons of fun goodies, produce, baked goods, and more. I go to Battleview Ochards multiple times a year for their berries, peaches, and apples. I was disappointed the most recent time I went due to the lack of social distancing and mask wearing enforcements. Most of the people were not wearing masks and I did not feel particularly safe. However, the staff (mostly teenagers) are very nice and work through long lines quickly. I also love the hot apple cider donuts at the store ($1 each). The 25 minute line to buy them on a Sunday afternoon is definitely worth it. read more

It isn't officially fall unless you go apple picking while also getting apple cider & apple cider donuts! I came here a few weeks ago with my friends and family on a weekend but unfortunately apple picking closed super early but luckily we were still able to go the market and get the most important thing - donuts and cider. The donuts were amazing, tbh probably the best one I've had so far - it is super fresh, warm and only $1 each! Once we got the warm donuts, we went straight to the cider line and man, what a great combo together. Pure heaven and happiness. I got a dozen donuts, but don't worry I didn't eat it all, I brought some home for the family. Donuts were great reheated (I use my waffle maker to reheat haha, it makes it nice and crispy). While reheating at home, you can definitely tell its more deep fried than other apple cider donut places but that explains why its so good. The lines are pretty long but it moves quick. No more apple picking for the season! We went today and were disappointed! Also, hot apple cider donuts are only available Saturdays and Sundays from 9-12. When we showed up at 1:30 pm, there were only fresh room temperature donuts, but I bought a bag because they looked freshly baked. Best cider donuts I've ever tasted. Very fresh. The market also sold lots of other treats and I would have liked to shop some more, but we were in a hurry to find another apple orchard with pick your own apples, so we quickly left, but not before picking up an apple pocket and cheese horseshoe. Both were ok when I tasted them later. The apple cider donuts are the things to get here if you eat them right away, but the baked goods are all delicious! Note that Melick Orchards still has plenty of Fuji left, see my review for that place. According to Battleview's website, which I should have checked, their Fuji crop was light this year. If you want pesticide covered apples and to drive back and forth from orchard to country store this is the place for you. Half the trees for apple picking were completely closed off full of apples. No green apples in site. No peaches even though the website and Facebook said they had them. The line to get in the store was ridiculous and they charge $3 per bag in the country store. No paper bags. You either buy a bag or hand carry your stuff. We were so bored we left and went to another farm a few miles away and had a blast. I don't know how anyone can recommend this place. Great spot for apple picking and pumpkins. We came on a Sunday afternoon, and although the parking lot seemed pretty crowded, the orchard and pumpkin patch were so large that we never really felt that close to other people. There was no entrance fee (I think they only have one for strawberries in the summer), so you just pay for what you pick, making this a really affordable option for fall fun. Apple season is coming to a close and I'm so glad I visited this gem before it ended! Battleview Orchards is well-organized with signs directing you to their ample varieties of apples. It was a bit overwhelming at first to navigate because the farm is so expansive, but their staff was extremely helpful with providing us advice on the optimal trail to follow. We got an Apple-picking stick to reach the higher fruit (I don't know the proper term for the apparatus) for a $20 deposit which was returned after we gave back the stick. I think the best apple was by far the stayman winesap! It's so juicy and has a distinct almost floral note to it. However you genuinely can't go wrong with any of the apples available. After you finish in the orchard, make sure to walk one block down to their market for fresh cider donuts and apple cider! Eat the donut while it's first hot! (Lol Dunkin Donuts could never) Pricing - Apples were $1.55 a pound Cider donuts $6 for half a dozen Apple cider $2.59 for a quart Hayride $3 per person I can't wait to go back for peach picking and strawberry picking! I want strawberry picking with my husband. We went on a Tuesday. It was fairly empty but nice because they were enough people to share the experience with. The strawberries were ripe and delicious. Pro tip: Go early! We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened at 9am and had to wait a bit. Circled around and they were letting people in, so we probably parked around 8:55am. By the time we left at around 10:30am, the parking lot was PACKED. The orchards are pretty big though, so we never felt crowded even around the time we left. There was a large variety of apples to pick from - we were able to grab a bunch of apples for our planned pie and then some. They also have pumpkin picking - priced by the pound - near the entrance. All the pumpkins looked really good. Sometimes you go pumpkin picking and they leave out some truly janky looking ones. Staff were all very nice. I do wish they had better labeling of the apples. At some point, we couldn't tell if we were in a field of Fuji's or something else. I'm not an apple connoisseur, so I have no idea what apples are what based entirely on appearance. We stopped by the marketplace down the road after we finished up apple picking and brought a gallon of apple cider, fresh apple cider doughnuts, and some smaller pumpkins and gourds. Prepare for sitting in standstill traffic on your way into the area as it seems everyone in New Jersey (and prob some New Yorkers) have apple picking on the brain. This review is just about the orchards, apple picking exclusively. We unfortunately didn't make it to the store or even the apple cider or donuts. It was just such a total crazy house there BUT me and my group of 4 still had a really wonderful day. After you park and get out of your car, you finally can breath. Although it seems nearly EVERYONE is there, there was rarely a time where I felt I couldn't have my space. For the most part, guests respected the 6 feet rules and many were wearing masks (in general, but especially when they couldn't social distance). Once you park, go grab a bucket and get picking!!! They have signs all over if you are looking for a specific kind of apple, but if not you can simply just wander all over and pick and taste and pick some more. We absolutely filled our bucket with all different apples and it came out to ~$17. Since this wonderful day, I have eaten so many apples and baked my first ever apple pie. There apples are $1.50 a pound which is very reasonably priced compared to other farms. They do have a website that's updated from time to time informing what fruits or kinds of apples are available for picking. Hayrides are only on weekends and for a low cost. The store is less than a mile down from the picking site and that's where they sell fresh donuts and apple cider. There are also fresh produce inside the store and some delicious pies. We had a few fresh donuts plain and cinnamon sugar! Oh, it was definitely hot and delicious and very so addictive. I had to grab a few myself. We also tried their peach crumb pie and I would definitely recommend it! There are no bathrooms here but just porter potty. Parking is also limited when coming on weekends so if you can visit during the weekdays or weekends before 10:30am, it would be better. Came here during apple/pumpkin picking season. Orchard is huge with at least five to seven different varieties of apples. During Covid mask is enforced and plenty of space for any distancing. Staff hands over a bucket to fill the apples, cannot bring in your own bags. Had a wonderful time here with the fam and enjoyed all the fresh apples plucked from the trees. Golden Delicious were all gone, left with Granny Smiths and Fuji apples to taste. There's a lot of apples left on the grasslands and under trees; wonder what the Orchard does with all the wasted apples. Spent almost two hours here, as we walked back to the entrance to pay for the apples a small pumpkin patch was setup on the side. Got to take a few pictures and enjoyed the scenery. Although this is my second time apple picking I truly enjoy the adventure, exploration, and the adrenaline rush my body feels while walking around the grounds in search of the perfect apple. There was no way I was staying around that, especially since I was already under a lot of stress and went to try to de-stress. If they didn't see me, good. They won't ever. I had a much, much better time digging for crystals. You'd think mine owners would be more mean, but nope. Turns out it's these orchard owners. I don't know if everyone - including the nasty customers - were having a mass collective bad day, but I walked away with the feeling of being punched for no reason. As I've searched for the best fried apple cider donuts, I headed to Battleview Orchard. I expected lines, but it moved fast. I was excited to see the freshly fried donuts being bagged as I stood by the order window. A dozen cinnamon sugar and half a dozen plain. I did prefer the latter, to my surprise. I would love it more with vanilla ice cream, next to a black coffee. The donuts are pretty good, but I still find myself jonesing for that Carpe Donut in a little red truck. There's a separate line for the beverages and a another line for the actual store. These logistics made the lines move faster. I love this place. I do most of my fruit picking here. Strawberry picking is currently $4.29/lb. we. Totaled $35 for all of our strawberries. It works like this, you pay $5 per person to enter. They give you a receipt with that amount as a credit. After you finish and they weigh, they apply that credit to your total and you pay the difference. If less you can pick more to make the credit total. They do it like this so people just don't go in and act like they're picking but eat strawberries and leave. It's an awesome thing t do with kids. I don't often go apple picking, but the options and size of the orchard were adequate. There was a sign mentioning social distancing. However, it was extremely packed. There was no capacity limit and all the parking lots were full. An impromptu stop on the way back after a morning stroll at the Englishtown Flea Market and a nice Thai lunch at Noodle Fan turned out to be the highlight of the day! It was a 72 degree sunny fall weekend afternoon, perfect for such outdoor folly as apple picking. We were surprised by the number of people at the orchards. The parking lot was pretty much full. The place was well organized and staffed. Signs, buckets, and fences were placed where they belong. Staff were friendly and gave helpful instructions. Ripe for picking were 4 kinds of apples: Gala, Honeycrisp, Jonamac, and Ginger Gold. $1.40 per pound. Pole pickers were free to use with a $20 deposit. The signs were clearly labeled and the trees were marked with designated colors of ribbons. I love them all except Jonamac. Ginger Gold was particularly plump and gorgeous. It is really a great way to spend time with family and friends. Tasting, picking, and in the end get to bring home your "harvest". What's not to like about this place? I've been going to Battleview for close to 10 years now... my mother in law put me on to this place.. and I love coming back every fall! I have definitely ventured out to try other spots in the area, but this one always does it for me.. especially the awesome store down the road where you can go for DELICIOUS piping hot apple cider donuts (my fave is the cinnamon sugar).. and delicious apple cider--I love to get some hot cider while I shop around the store and then take a gallon of the cold stuff home! This time around, we noticed that they opened up a 3rd area all the way to the back--not crowded at all which was wonderful. Plenty of parking and space.. TIP: definitely go as early as you can or you may get stuck in a TON of traffic trying to get into and leave the orchard. Plenty of golden and red delicious.. McIntosh were a little scarce, but because I have the arms of an ape, I was able to get a few off of the top for my crew. At the end, we picked up a tiny pumpkin as we walked toward the checkout line.. who can say no! And a few nice shots in the "patch" that will probably make the Christmas card this year.
