An impromptu stop on the way back after a morning stroll at the Englishtown Flea Market and a nice Thai lunch at Noodle Fan turned out to be the highlight of the day! It was a 72 degree sunny fall weekend afternoon, perfect for such outdoor folly as apple picking. We were surprised by the number of people at the orchards. The parking lot was pretty much full. The place was well organized and staffed. Signs, buckets, and fences were placed where they belong. Staff were friendly and gave helpful instructions. Ripe for picking were 4 kinds of apples: Gala, Honeycrisp, Jonamac, and Ginger Gold. $1.40 per pound. Pole pickers were free to use with a $20 deposit. The signs were clearly labeled and the trees were marked with designated colors of ribbons. I love them all except Jonamac. Ginger Gold was particularly plump and gorgeous. It is really a great way to spend time with family and friends. Tasting, picking, and in the end get to bring home your "harvest". What's not to like about this place? I've been going to Battleview for close to 10 years now... my mother in law put me on to this place.. and I love coming back every fall! I have definitely ventured out to try other spots in the area, but this one always does it for me.. especially the awesome store down the road where you can go for DELICIOUS piping hot apple cider donuts (my fave is the cinnamon sugar).. and delicious apple cider--I love to get some hot cider while I shop around the store and then take a gallon of the cold stuff home! This time around, we noticed that they opened up a 3rd area all the way to the back--not crowded at all which was wonderful. Plenty of parking and space.. TIP: definitely go as early as you can or you may get stuck in a TON of traffic trying to get into and leave the orchard. Plenty of golden and red delicious.. McIntosh were a little scarce, but because I have the arms of an ape, I was able to get a few off of the top for my crew. At the end, we picked up a tiny pumpkin as we walked toward the checkout line.. who can say no! And a few nice shots in the "patch" that will probably make the Christmas card this year. Since it was soooo hot the day that we went, we were sweating and didn't get the full "fall" feel.. will probably return next month once the weather really turns. read more

An apple a day keeps the doctor away! A colleague and childhood friend recommended this place because they regularly visit with their families. That was all I needed to hear before planning my own visit. These orchards were beautiful and well worth the drive from New York City. We did encounter bumper-to-bumper traffic at the final turn towards the orchards and it all made sense once we arrived. I was in awe and never knew there were so many varieties of apple. It was overwhelming yet exhilarating to be a kid again. We were just two City moms enjoying a beautiful autumn day, sharing a childhood tradition with our children. It was a memorable and photogenic experience. We laughed and snapped away while trying to be strategic with the apples picked. Bonus points for the pumpkins available for picking and the hayride. Too bad, we had to sit this one out because we cut it too close to the final one scheduled for the day. The line to check out moved relatively quickly and we were back on the road headed home. A guide on each type would have been helpful for a novice like me. How do you choose one that is sweet versus tart? Since the price that you pay varies by weighing your bag of freshly-picked apples, it was a challenge not to go overboard. Every row was just stunning and I have to hand it to the family maintaining such so many acres. How do you collect all of the fallen apples? What happens to them? I am definitely keeping an eye out for the spring and summer seasons. I have never picked strawberries or sour cherries, peaches, or nectarines so I am intrigued by the idea. This is a non organic apple picking orchard. They use FDA approved pesticide. They don't charge an entrance fee and you pay only for apples you bring home. This orchard have a wide variety of apples. We picked the sweetest apple variety this time which is the golden delicious . The apples are $1.49/lb We also went to their country store and got the delicious apple cider donuts. They're not too sweet and smaller in size. I think they're baked rather than fried, not sure. But their donuts are cake-like and not greasy. I would come again next season read more

I love the general-store country type farm feel along with the proximity to the City. The store is separate from the orchard, where the apples are picked. You'll have to drive and park at both but who cares, parking is free Apple Cigar Doughnuts are $1 apiece and they hevaenely when they're piping hot. Only get them if they're hot and greasy, making the paper bag translucent. Why the low score when the doughnuts were so tasty? Omg it is so crowded and everything is price gauged! I get capitalism, but the produce and cheeses are more expensive than Whole Foods in Bryant Park. Gourds were $0.79 each but they're 2/$1 at the deli by my house in midtown. A large, carving pumpkin will run $28 but only $7 at Trader Joe's. Apples you pick are $1.40/lb. nothing is labeled organic, so I presume everything is sprayed. Hayride ($3.00 each) was a perfect way to show off some of the property, let's not forget the fresh apple cider donuts!!! So so yummy! We purchased it all including an apple pie, caramel apples and apple cider to go. We went on a Saturday around 1pm. Lots of employees to help with any questions you might have, all very pleasant. You park at the market to shop and drive your car to park closer to pumpkin/apple picking area. Plenty of parking don't worry. Buckets to help you carry pumpkins/apples. It's always a treat to stop by Battleview and this visit was no exception. I've enjoyed their lauded Apple Cider donuts in it's varying forms multiple times, so upon walking into the country store I see a new donut variety........Old Fashioned Sour Cream donuts! These donuts were excellent! My favorite part of the donut was it's unexpected crispy outer crust. When I took my first bite, I was greeted with a crispy bite similar to a freshly fried fritter. If you're not familiar with that analogy, another similar example would be the bite of the skin of a freshly fried French fry. Pleasantly the donut was not overly sweet, even though it was subject to a generous treatment of powdered sugar. This tamed sweetness may be attributable to the sour cream, whose tartness was distinguishable in the donut portion. Paired with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, I thoroughly enjoyed this donut as an afternoon dessert. So keep an eye out for these delicious donuts! read more

Because of the size of the orchard acreage, you do not have people on top of you. You can definitely enjoy your time easier. It is a better maintained orchard then others in Monmouth county. The quality of apples at this orchard was not great when we went (late September). We tried golden delicious, macoun, and red delicious, and only the golden delicious variety was semi tasty. The apples were split and some rotting while still on the tree. Tons of rotting or smushed apples on the ground and bees. The pumpkin patch also had rotting and smashed pumpkins. Traffic into this farm is a nightmare if it's crowded; it's a two lane road with traffic that can be backed up miles. No real bathroom option except porta potties. No place to wash hands or a water fountain. read more

The no pets policy is disgusting I was denied entry into the peach field with my service dog, even after explaining that I am a cancer patient with a rare condition, employee started getting nasty and asking for proof which I explained to her I did not have at the moment due to living in a different state that does not require proof of certification. I searched up nj laws as well and it states that the employee had no right to deny entry or ask for certification of my service dog or medical condition. I even had my dog in a bag close to me so that it wouldn't interfere with touching the trees. Please do not go here there are many other places in nj who are more accommodating to peoples disabilities. read more

Great variety and they have some unique ones too so if you like to experiment and try various recipes about, definitely browse through here for those spark of ideas! I personally love the milk bottles here because they're glass and so once the milk is done, it's perfect for using it to store freshly squeeze juice! Environment: This place is huge! My boyfriend and i went to pumpkin pick and first went to the little store up the road. staff there was super sweet no issues with them and you can tell its a family run business. then headed up the road to the pumpkin patch. got there and werent sure if we wanted to buy any apples or just walk around for pictures. we headed over to the apple picking area and one of the workers behind us says "Are you here to apple pick?" and we didnt realize he was speaking to us which then lead him to saying "i know you know im talking to you" which we in fact did not but turned around once he said that. then we went on our way and walked around and when we were finished gave them back the bucket because we werent planning on buying any of the apples, not for nothing we didnt even touch any we just took a few pictures and left, and the lady who we gave the bucket back to said it was weird we just went back there and didnt buy any, implying we went back there to eat them and leave. people dont always buy the pumpkins or the apples, its nice to go and just take pictures. and again there werent even fresh apples to choose from they were all smooshed on the ground so even if we planned on buying any, this was not the place to go. staff was super weird and wasnt a great selection of apples or pumpkins. read more

During the popular season, you're going to be fighting for parking spots at the market but because the orchards are huge, you don't feel too crowded. There were some muddy spots especially from after days of raining but that's inevitable so don't wear your nice shoes. All the good apples are high above on the trees so put down $20 for deposit to borrow an apple picker which you would be so thankful for. Normally, we trek to Terhune Orchards for apple picking, as it's closer to my parent's in Princeton. We decided to visit a different spot. We had a bad experience last year with the huge crowds, in addition to $10pp for entrance fee. I do miss their winery. We purchased a few bottles of apple wine that was amazing! As well as their blended wine slushies. It was the perfect treat! Fortunately, we caught the last day of apple picking! They just announced the end of apple picking for the season. There's still time to catch the pumpkin patch, and hayrides, and apple cider donuts (wknds only)! Apple picking was priced at $1.65/lb. It's practically a steal compared to supermarkets and most grocery stores in NYC. For pumpkins, it was priced at .75/lb. which is very reasonable. They also provide a red bucket and bag for the apples. It's a great place for families and kids to get some pics and explore in the vast field. There's a lot of open space to walk around. There were tons of trees to select and choose from for a variety of apples. A few things to note: -No backpacks, diaper bags, large bags, reusable fruit containers, and baskets are permitted in the picking area. -Groups are limited to 8 or less. -Face masks are strictly enforced. -It's cash-only at the orchard. - Keep in mind that the orchard is separate from the store. We weren't able to find the store. Ask for directions as it's separate from the orchard area. -Only porta potty available in the parking lot. For families with toddlers/babies, I recommend to use the restroom along the pit stop/gas station before you enter. Both of our kids were done for the day. They slept on the car ride home. Definitely will return from now on for apple picking & pumpkin! read more

We've been coming here for the last 3 or 4 years for apple picking. There was a time when apple picking was a full day event for us. In those days, we would go to a farm with family activities or we would linger at the farm and browse through the pumpkin patch and their country market. Nowadays, we have become more "efficient" and come solely to buy the apples; fresh apples that you cannot buy at the supermarket. You can really taste the difference. We found a back road to Freehold leading into this farm avoiding the traffic. Somehow, within 15 minutes our buckets are filled. We'll stop by the country market for the cider donuts and apple cider. The price here for apples are pretty reasonable and are posted on their Facebook page ($1.40/lb as of sept 2017) but the pumpkins are priced based on weight (which can be $20 for a pumpkin vs $5 for the same sized pumpkin at The supermarket). Just felt like taking a ride today. We came here for the best cider donuts and an apple pie! They have so many jams, syrups, salad dressings and fresh produce. There is a window you can get fresh hot donuts and a truck with peach smoothies, ice cream with pound cake, lemonade and more. You can pick your own apples and peaches now. AUGUST UPDATE Four Words--- PEACH PICKING CASH ONLY Yes my lovelies if there is something I absolutely love it would be Summertime fruit and peaches are top of the list! This past Wednesday Mini-Me and Partner in Crime decided it was time to go Peach pickin' and at $1.40 a pound- how can you say no? especially when you consider they are about $1.99 pound and up at major grocery stores. Plus, I pick what I want and have the choice of white or yellow- which both happen to go quite nicely in sangriaaaaaaaaa!!! I believe in supporting our local farmers and I appreciate the hard work and love that goes into their crops. Anyway- if you have not been, the peach picking area is past the country store on your right, just follow the signs. You park the car, grab a big bucket with a paper bag and walk off to the aisles of happiness. Pick what you want- we each filled out bags and as of today Friday, we have only 1 big bowl left of peaches. Oh once they ripen up they are sweet delicious goodness, I love them with cottage cheese and a drizzle of honey, or grilled on the BBQ, cut up and put in my BIG HUGE wine glass and ice cold Chateau St. Michele Riesling poured over them or Champagne or if you have kids or don't drink they are just as delicious with lemon lime soda, or sparkling apple cider.. GO GO GO get some peaches, have fun take the kids make a day of it-- it's beautiful outside. ** Please remember, most of the peaches on the trees are not truly ripe just yet- so don't pick one, take a big ol' bite and expect sweetness, not gonna happen just yet and let the kidlets know this as well-- I saw quite a lot of families with kids walking row after row - picking peach after peach, taking a bite and throwing them on the ground. Apparently they caught someone stealing 15 pounds of peaches. Check the ground ladies and gentlemen. Make your rules and policies equal for all. Clearly this is not the case. There is no reason to treat your customers poorly we have been coming here for years and have a great deal of family/ businesses in NJ. We will be sure that whoever comes to our medical offices in the area will not set foot in this ridiculous establishment. If you guys want business, please change your management. It's also common practice when you work in the customer service industry that the "customer is always right" at least you find a compromise instead of being a rude and obnoxious person.
