Found my new go-to shop for everything automotive, and Joey at Bavarian Auto Repair is the reason why. Monday morning, torrential downpour on the way to work, I drove through some high water in my 2010 Jetta. Didn't think much of it until the drive home that evening, when the car started sputtering with the check engine and EPC lights both coming on. Called Joey at 5pm and he immediately had a tow truck contact ready (Allen's 24/7 Towing, also outstanding, 20 minute response time in downtown San Antonio). Dropped the car off after hours and Joey called first thing the next morning with full diagnostics already done. He found the high water from that morning's commute had pushed into the ignition coil wells, where an existing valve cover gasket leak had already let oil pool. That combination took out a coil and fouled the plugs. No upselling, no scare tactics, just a clear explanation of what failed and why, with a straightforward repair plan: valve cover gasket, all 5 spark plugs, and the one failed coil. Communication was constant throughout, and he had it ready Wednesday just before close. Even gave me the military discount, sent me home with a thank-you note and a gift bag, and walked me through exactly what to watch for to keep this Jetta running well long-term. At 70k miles on a 2010, he made it clear this car has plenty of life left in it if maintained right and that's exactly the kind of honest, customer-first advice that earns repeat business. This is what a real repair shop should look like: transparent diagnosis, fair pricing, zero pressure, and genuine care for the customer beyond just the transaction. Bavarian Motors did a great job with the repairs on my BMW. It rides as smoothly it did when it came off the showroom floor. They explained what needed to be repaired and sent me a video of the repair work needed. I am very pleased with their work. Their facility is clean with a very comfortable waiting area. I asked for an oil service and an oil analysis. Upon arrival, I provided my oil sample kit. Purpose was to check if my car needs a rod bearing service. About 2 hours later, I'm told they were doing a final check on my oil level. I then see my car drive off and I end up paying the bill and ask about my oil sample. I'm told by the manager that they can mail it off for me (with a confident smile on his face). **I leave the room because it was awkward that another customer walked in to complain about their service.** My car returns and I approach the guy and ask him why he drove off with my car for an additional 10-15 minutes. He said he was checking my suspension (specifically my bushings)? I then get in my car and notice my oil sample kit was left on my passenger seat...empty. Frustrated, I go in to give it to the manager who told me with a confident smile minutes earlier that they would take care of it for me. He then says, "Oh and you had metal shavings in your oil. So you can expect to see that on your analysis." YOU JUST NOW DECIDED TO TELL ME THAT?! You're going to let a customer with a large amount of metal shavings in their oil walk out without knowing a catastrophic event could occur at any moment...I was made aware of this because you left the kit in my car and I had to return. How do I know that oil didn't cross pollinate with other materials? Is my oil analysis now compromised?! You couldn't bring me 10 feet into the shop and show me these metal shavings?! This is a potential engine replacement and you can't give me the professional courtesy to show me? My car is now with the dealer for repair. Should've stuck with the dealership. These guys are knowledgeable, understanding, and most importantly they care about your car not just the money. I came to Bavarian needing a High Pressure Fuel Pump, they diagnosed and confirmed the issue within an hour. Within another 3 hours my car was back running smooth! All at a fraction of what other shops will rip you off for! I returned to the shop with another issue in within the fuel system and they didn't hesitate to diagnose and get to the bottom of it ASAP. Deciding to leave a review for Bavarian Auto Repair because of the quality and great service I've received from this place. I've brought both my 2014 BMW and my 2001 Toyota Highlander to them. My BMW for schedule maintenance (oil change, rear brake pad and rotor replacement (and sensor), and spark plug replacement. The price I paid for this was over $1,000 less than the BMW dealership, which was great. They broke down everything to me, answered all my questions, and performed tasks in a timely manner. My 2001 Toyota Highlander, I brought in to have a noise checked out along with having my moonroof drain holes cleaned. That went smooth as well. One of the main reasons I'm writing this review, is because they do not try and suggest unnecessary & costly repairs which drive me crazy. I went in for what I ask for and didn't have them badgering me to change everything. I've had a number of issues with this with many other car places (NTB for instance is bad with this) just so they can try and make a quick buck. Overall, I'll definitely push for this place and will continue to bring both of my vehicles here. read more

With the new ownership (2019) a lot has changed toward negative. I brought my BMW X5 for replacement of two door handles and one window regulator. I was quoted 3-4 hours of work and we agreed on a total of $525 while I provided the parts. Seven hours later I finally got my car back with airbag sensor not reset and a total price of $547.73. When I asked what cost me extra $21 the owner quoted "rags, glass cleaner, cleaner, spray lube" and the like! This is a very dishonest way of doing business. If they grease up my windows it's up to them to clean it, or leave it alone for me to clean it, but not charge me for it! Also, they damaged my factory-made window tint! I would suggest the new owner learns appropriate customer service and business etiquette. Being rude and insulting customer's intelligence doesn't pay off in the long run. Unfortunately, after more than a decade of coming to this shop I will NOT be back. Update 6/20/19, 18:35: "Moral certainty is always a sign of cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and what is wrong." I just received a phone call from Mr. Milan H. (the new owner) who wanted to have "the last word." My point was proven - rudeness, disrespect, and defensiveness was the content of his monologue. CROOKS. CHECK YOUR INVOICES. Holy do not do business with these guys. I got my e46 inspected here prior to buying it. They charged me 180 bucks for a ppi when every other shop is around 120. Figured these guys would do it right so I decided to spend the extra. They printed out everything that was wrong with it and I bought the car. In the first 20 miles, brake light and abs lights come on. Previous owner told me that happened to him, shop told me it was probably because brake fluid needed to be flushed. I got it flushed, lights still came on. I run the codes and it's brake pressure sensors. They didn't even check the codes during the inspection. They quoted me 900 dollars to fix the brake pressure sensors. I fixed them myself. Super simple job and codes are gone. Not even a 100 miles later car starts overheating and expansion tank exploded. I replaced it with a bmw expansion tank and car is still overheating. Figured I didn't bleed it right. Get it towed to them for diagnostic and a bleed. They call me next day tell me I was right car needed to be bled and charged me 150 bucks for that. I don't even make it home and the car overheats again. I called them and the guy over the phone really wanted me to wait for the car to cool down while I was stranded which takes hours and drive it back to them. I get them to pay for the tow back. They tell me it's the fan clutch. They tried to charge me a second diagnostic fee when the first time I brought in, I told them it was overheating. I have them replace the fan clutch and they quote me 520 bucks. I get it done there and they call me and tell me the thermostat isn't working now. How the entire cooling system failed within the first couple 100 miles of buying the car is beyond me, and I got it inspected just to avoid this and they mentioned nothing about the cooling system. They quote me an additional 508 to do the thermostat. I saw okay let's do it. I ask them how much extra to do the water pump since you guys are gone be right there anyway. Guy says they'll just charge me for the part and no additional labor costs. I say let's do it. They proceeded to send me a total for $1580. I say how is that, I just cancel the service cuz 1600 is ridiculous. I posted this in a e46 group on Facebook and we all had a good laugh on the quote the gave me. They charge me a 10 percent restocking fee which brought my original total of 520 to 569 and change. Doing the math, turns out 10 percent of the parts is roughly 27 dollars. They charged me 569 . Turns out they were trying to charge me an extra 375 for labor to do the water pump when they told me no additional labor. I tell this to them and Ralf laughs it off and is like so what do you want exactly. I want the money I was overcharged. He hangs up on me and I call back and tell another guy and he processes my refund. Bunch of crooks. Wish I never took my car here at all. They also charge overcharge you for parts. Price check what they charge you for.they didn't even let me buy my own parts, even though it was genuine bmw parts from fcpeuro. read more

I took my Mini Cooper to this shop, having multiple problems with the engine. Prior to this I received several estimates from other Mini Cooper mechanics. With each estimate, the problems quoted were more or less the same. So I thought that was pretty straight forward. In the initial approach with Bavarian I met the owner and general manager. Both were likable and seemed experienced enough to do the job. They had my Mini Cooper 2-3 weeks and essentially did what they said they would do- not counting the two add-on repairs that came along the way (found problems that weren't detected during the initial inspection). I got my car back and it seemed to run fine for a couple days until warning lights started popping up across my dashboard and worst, was driving very sluggishly (both were issues that prompted my taking in for service to begin with). I called the shop and was advised to bring it back to them. I took my Mini back to Bavarian where they kept it for another few days. After not hearing back from anyone I decided to just stop in for a face to face. In walking through the door I got the "Oh, we were just going to call you". I was told by the General Manager that my engine was blown, that metal fragments were found in my oil filter and that means I'll need a new motor. The cost- roughly 13k. That's roughly 13k on top of the 6k I'd already spent. Needless to say, that's an absolute NO. Had a sit down with the Owner where he offered to knock off the 6k from the 13k for a new motor with a "take it or leave it" caveat. Well, seeing what I was dealing with I took my Mini back to Eurasian Auto Repair (one of the Mini Cooper mechanics that quoted the repair before Bavarian). It was found by Eurasian that the engine was not blown, that there were errors made in the work by Bavarian Auto Repair (won't go into the micro-specifics). Roughly a week later and Eurasian had my Mini Cooper running like a champ! Just think, what if this was your wife or mother in a situation like this, someone that doesn't know better? Oh btw, it was also assessed that some of the work done and charged by Bavarian may not have been performed correctly. To date I've not had one follow up phone call from Bavarian Auto reference to my situation. No Bueno Bavarian! 05/23/19 Update- To the owner's response. In short, you guys told me that my engine was blown and asked for a mountain of money to repair it. Upon further examination the engine was not blown. Further, IT WAS discovered that some of the work performed by your shop was not correctly performed. That alone is heinous! Moving forward- Your commentary on "the other shop".. You are obviously referring to Eurasian Auto Repair but for liability reasons you don't want to name them since you are lying. The fact that you would try and lay this on first- me, second- Eurasian is shameful. Your overall response is too much spin dude, and it's obvious. My response about women??? I'm smarter than them??? What are you guys smoking over there? In short, I was a customer that trusted you and you did poor work. I had to find another mechanic to fix what you did. I went there for a transmission job they refused to use my coupon that I had that was Valon. The manager started yelling at me and calling me names. Transmission wasn't even the problem is the solenoid on the transmission. I had to end up getting a second transmission three months later and they did not warrantee their work. read more

I have always like Bavarian, I thought they were good people. Saying that, I just found out they installed a non OEM fan in my Volvo and because of that the connections failed which means I've been driving my car with no way to cool it unless I was on a highway forcing air through it. It was dangerous, and at a minimum could have caused significant damage. Luckily it was caught and repaired with the proper parts but I'm really disappointed in them. Not only was it $1200 flushed down the toilet, knowing the cost of that repair wasn't for the correct part is simply rage inducing (and I know this because it was the same cost to have it repaired correctly at the dealership.) The long and short here is I would demand confirmation the parts made for your car are being used, or better, go someplace reliable because this isn't it. For an automotive shop that specializes in European cars, they should have known better. read more

After spending the last 3 years taking my BMW X5 to the dealer, I was over the 45min to an hour just to check in vehicle for an oil change. A friend recommended Bavarian auto repair and they are great. The prices are significantly less than the local BMW dealer using BMW oem parts and giving great service. While you don't get the free loaner car, the great service and 25-40% savings in maintenance/repairs makes up for it. Trust me, once you try these guys out you will never go back to the BMW dealer for service. read more

I have a BMW 2009 328i. I couldn't tell how much oil was in the engine because the oil lever sensor component went out. Barvarian changed the sensor and charged $435.00 to repair it. Part was over priced at $273.00. The oil lever sensor still didn't work and Bavarian suggested to connect the car to their new computer system, which will indicate if there is a fault code within the wiring. They wanted an extra $126.00 to do this analysis when they should have done it anyway, because maybe the oil level sensor they replaced could be defective. I didn't think this was fair and decided to take it somewhere else. Also, my tail lamp blinker assembly was out. They wanted $256 to replace it. I told them absolutely not! I ordered a tail lamp assembly from Rock Auto for $80 and replaced it myself within ten minutes. To replace, remove three screws. That's it!! read more

On April 15, 2018 my wife and I left Chula Vista, CA driving to Hilltop Lakes TX. Just before we arrived in Las Cruces NM, my brake lining light came on. That night, I started looking online for BMW Independent repair shops in and around San Antonio TX, and one of them I found was Bavarian Auto Repair. Other shops who gave me estimate were way too high, but Bavarian Auto gave me estimate much lower than the other shops, with quality OEM parts (rotors, pads & sensors). I made and appointment on Apr 17 and was accommodated right away when I got there. The staff was nice and respectful, the shop was clean and well organized. BTW, he gave me military discount and thanked me for my service. This place rocks! I would strongly recommend Bavarian Auto Repair to Bimmer owners in San Antonio TX. It is rare to find an honest, ethical auto shop where they're not trying to scam you out of your hard-earned cash. Bavarian Auto Repair is such a shop. After taking my son's BMW to multiple mechanics because the emergency brake would not engage, and receiving misinformation and inflated quotes, I stumbled upon Bavarian. Already being apprehensive, Gabriel greeted me at the front desk and I explained to him what I was already told by the previous mechanics. He listened to my concerns and offered to put the car on the lift and take a look. He returned and explained that the issue was not the transmission (as the other mechanics had told me), but that it was simply a loose cable and the emergency brake system needed adjusting. I was shown what was needed to be repaired and was quoted a reasonable price for said repair. The repair took 20 minutes while I waited in a very comfortable waiting room. I will now no longer take my son's car to any other mechanic except Bavarian because of their honesty and service. read more

Bavarian does decent work and repaired my vehicle a couple of times. However, the last time I had my car worked on they took it for a test drive and the brake light turned on and admittedly the repairmen said he slammed on the breaks to check my car. They then said I needed new breaks not rotors and the estimate for over $1000!!!! I was shocked !!! I went to another mechanic that specializes in BMWs and got them fixed for less than half the price and they did great work. Another time my headlight was out and they told me it needed to be replaced and it was going to be over $500. Turns out the light bulb just needed to be tightened when I had someone else check it. I gave them another chance that time but I will not be going back anymore. It makes we wonder how much I overpaid for the previous repairs and doubt that what they sold me was truly needed. Earlier this year (2017) I took my 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman to this place. They are very honest about what was wrong with my vehicle. First I took it to Mini of San Antonio. They said I needed a new turbo charger at a cost of $4,000. I took my car to Bavarian for a second opinion. Bavarian could have agreed and charged me the same. Long story short ... I didn't need a turbo charger....just was low on transmission fluid. Don't go to Mini of San Antonio. Take your BMW or Mini here for repairs. I recently got my brother's old BMW 3series for Christmas as he bought another one. It started having the drip-catch guard on the driver side popping off the clips and it would leak. I had taken it to the dealership as, at the time, I didn't know where else to take a BMW to get work done. The dealership quoted me $200 for parts and $160 for labor. I literally laughed at them, said "no thanks", and left, figuring there HAS to be a different shop that has sane prices. I contacted this place and they told me that in fact the part costs $130, not $200.... and that the "labor" involves MAYBE 5-10 minutes of just clipping the new trim piece on. They charged me $45 for the labor, said they felt bad for even charging that much, but it was WAY better than what the dealership tried to rob me for. If you need work done, screw the dealership, because they are definitely trying to screw you. read more
